First Choice Caribbean Troy Reviews
Omgggg the best jerk chicken in the albany troy area, You have to try it it's soooo good. Reminds me of home
Came here for an evening dinner and ordered takeout, the meal smelled fantastic and was fair priced. As soon as I walked out of the restaurant unfortunately my food fell onto the sidewalk spilling all of the beautiful entree that I ordered. The kind gentleman who's name I did not catch prepared me a fresh meal in which I carefully returned home safely and devoured the delicious homemade plate without hesitation, thank you for the great hospitality and delicious meal.
Picked this up last night for the wife and I. 2 jerk chicken meals and a beef patty around 7 pm. Straight 🔥!! Might even go back today i. Chicken had great spice and flavor, plantains bomb. Rice was good. Solid spot
Hands down the best Caribbean food around. Their oxtail is legendary and if you haven't tried it before you're seriously missing out. They also have awesome jerk chicken, curry chicken, and goat dishes. This is a go to place for me, definitely try it.
My Dad and I came in last week (9/24) There appeared to be only one man working. Two customers were ahead of us waiting on their orders to go, which didn't seem to take the guy very long to do. The gentleman working there seemed very laid back and treated us well. My Dad and I both got the chicken jerk. It was a little spicy for my taste, but I can appreciate good cooking regardless. My Dad loved it. I'd go back. I most likely WILL return at some point. I'm giving this gentleman , the place, and food full stars ⭐ 😊
I come here for ricky, And I stay for the food! Very casual environment. I always feel satisfied after eating here, as if my body is thanking me. The rice, callaloo, cabbage, plantains, and chickpeas compliment each other. What a nourishing meal. They have scotch bonnet sauce in case you like it spicy
For eleven dollars, got a protein with three sides. Jerk chicken was amazing, melt in your mouth. Plantains were so good and sweet my only complaint is I wish there were more of them. People not familiar with this type of cuisine should know the chicken is bone-in, but that adds to the flavor. Rise was perfectly done and the cabbage was nice and firm. I'll definitely order again.
Very authentic Jamaican food prepared and served by a wonderful and friendly Jamaican gentleman. All the food had lots of scotch bonnet kick, so be prepared to drink lots of water. Good portion sizes. Dining room was a bit threadbare, but clean. Average and affordable prices. One things such as coconut drops or potato pudding were not on the menu, but he told us that they were available from time to time, so be sure to ask if there's something you want that is not evident the day you come. Great selection on the menu.
I've been to First Choice on and off over the years, mainly because I don't live in Troy. Despite that, I can't recall ever being disappointed with the food. The owner was kind and pleasant as always. The chicken was delicious and flavorful. The plantains were nice and sweet. The cabbage was okay and the rice was bland. Because I usually love the food I will try again in the future. I'm hoping that yesterday was just an off day for them.
Food was actually pretty good, I gave three stars because the portion size was extremely small. Their size medium is other Caribbean places size small and there was barely a scoop of rice in there for $25 a meal you expect to be full afterwards!
Pretty disappointed. This is one of the only Caribbean restaurants in Albany that have decent reviews. Ordered a large oxtail, super excited. I’m not even sure it’s really oxtail. Although the food arrived quickly, hot, and fresh, the “oxtail” had little to no meat on each long skinny bone. I’ve been eating Caribbean food for 20+ years and have never had oxtail so lackluster. A few of the pieces of meat were also burnt. Also, for $25+, they did not fill up the large container it was in. The food was sliding around in the empty space, instead of being stuffed like I’m used to from other places. The stars I gave was for the freshness of the food and the speed of delivery but I’m really disappointed with the quality of the oxtai, especially considering how expensive the item is.
Had a taste for some oxtail and didn't want to drive to Albany, so I googled an found this place 6mins from my house. I ordered a small oxtail dinner with rice and peas, Cabbage and plantains. I get home sit down to eat, not only did I find a piece of plastic wrap in my food, there is not one single pea in my rice and the plantains are not cooked properly. In addition to that, the smell of the food leaves little to be desired. Lastly, the slice of lemon cake is horribly dry.
Place was dirty and food was not good I think my food was micro waved from left overs.ordered ox tail all bones I paid 29 dollars for small portion .Charged me 4 dollars for using debit card. Don't go here.
Ordered from here via Door Dash for lunch. Only getting 1 star due to nice portion size and price. I ordered curry chicken and all I could taste was curry spice. No seasoning on the chicken and the cabbage was plain. The rice was okay but drowned by curry heat. It was spicy but unflavorful overall. Didn't finish it. There are other places that deliver spice with great seasoning.
Fried chicken tasted and smelled spoiled. Also it was overly salty, probably to distract the spoiled taste. Rice and peas was very dry, fresh and tough (No flavor). Very small portions for the price. Jerk chicken wasn’t too bad, it was edible. Chicken soup tasted okay as well.
Meal was terrible. Ordered barbecued chicken. The chicken and sauce was a dark brown, which didn't look or taste anything like barbecued chicken. I don't even think it was chicken. It looked more like ox-tails. The atmosphere wasn't pleasant. The tables were wobbly. And one other thing: servings were very small, and relatively expensive.
