Cletus' Chicken Shack Universal City Reviews
Searching for places to eat in the local area and this place popped up. I normally leave reviews, so I feel compelled as the food was good. Especially if you’re trying to load up on protein and carbs for energy. Just annoyed it was expensive and busy.
This restaurant is located inside Universal Studios Hollywood California. Food is good here plenty of seating upstairs and downstairs.

I never ate here before but the chicken and waffle sandwich was kinda tasty. The waffle has a hint of syrup which makes the sandwich itself somewhat sweet. The chicken was really juicy but the ends were a bit rough. So far I'll give this restaurant a 7/10
We were visiting the Universal Studios during the 4th of July weekend holidays and everything was crowded and packed. The staff where you ordered seemed tried, bored and not bothered about you or anything in the world. We ordered the chicken sandwich and the chicken and waffle sandwich meals. Took around 15+ mins for the food to be ready owing to the packed holiday crowd. The food was good, quite tasty and succulent chicken pieces. We were intrigued with the chicken and waffle sandwich, it was an interesting combination and good to eat. Overall a good joint to eat in Universal Studios.
Cletus' Chicken Shack is a chicken restaurant in Universal Studios Hollywood. It’s a southern-themed counter-serve restaurant that dispenses fried chicken, waffles and drinks in rustic surrounds. We visited this place during our third Universal Studios Hollywood trip. The place was crowded at that time. We ordered Chicken and Waffle Sandwich. The food was good and there’s nothing to say about the price of the food at the theme parks like Universal Studios Hollywood (it’s always a bit high). The customer service was okay.
It was raining hard when we were visiting, and there was a long line stretching outside the restaurant (FYI, it was 2.30 PM). The kitchen pushed food out in record time, though, so the bottleneck seemed to be on the number of cashiers (and they only had two out of four cashier stations manned). I felt bad for those volunteers who had to line up in the rain while their respective families took refuge. We ordered fried chicken, which was a solid choice. The corn was on point, and the mashed potatoes were warm enough to get my core body temperature down after being out in the rain. The fried chicken reminded me of Mary Brown's, seasoned enough to have good flavours, but needing some ketchup and hot sauce to make it better. But if you're a Simpson's fan, then you're in your elements. There are seats on the second floor, and if you are fortunate to sit near the TV, then you can watch some short clips while eating. Food price is higher, but you're paying for more than just a meal, but the experience of being part of the universe you only got to see on TV.
The chicken strips + fries combo is the same as elsewhere in the park. It’s a reasonably well sized meal to share between two people at one of the cheaper items on the menu

Getting in line and finding a seat is harder than it should be honestly. The food was okay, the chicken was crispy and savory but the waffle was overly sweet and sticky.
Good interior design but just regular theme park food.... Long wait for the line up but food comes out fast. I only like the biscuit 😕 Chicken was fine...a little bit dry I don’t recommend this store... the other Mexican store in the park is so much better
The #4 was ok. A grilled chicken sandwich was lettuce tomato and one pickle with saus. It was warm but not hot and came with a small portion of fries. For $21, if you add a soda. The way the line is set up is ridiculous, go up started to get a seat.

Expensive. Pretty much robots for employees. The only responsive one was the cashier/order taker. Food on counter for us to pick up. I picked up a fry off basket and it was cold. I touched the pile and they were all cold. I said I would like hot fries. I always like hot fries but at 55$ for 2 meals (& drinks), um yeah. No words spoken, grabbed my order tossed it and kept sliding other plates up on counter. We stood back waiting. Eventually my meal slid on counter again, and the fries were hot. Half the grilled chicken on my sandwich was tough like jerky but the other half was good. Not worth the price At. All. No engagement by employees like at Disneyland or World. Would not eat here again.
I recently went here with my family and while my grandmother loved her baked chicken. I didnt really enjoy the breaded chicken stips. They tasted super processed and really just a downer. The mashed potatoes and gravy saved the meal for me. I would go back to taste thd baked chicken.

Great Simpsons atmosphere, good service, but it end there. Universal studios just had disappointing food all around and Cletus’ chicken shack is no different. We got the chicken plate and waffle sandwich. Fried chicken is dry, overly salty, kind of expected it, but not this bad. Corn was juicy, but no sweetness to it. Mash potatoes and gravy was meh. Waffle sandwhich was not good at all. Basically just a flavorless fried chicken patty, a slice of tomato and a piece of lettuce in between soggy waffles. Was hoping the waffle would be somewhat crispy, but nope just a soggy mess. It’s a nice atmosphere, they have a few freestyle vending machines, but the overall food is dissatisfying.
This is a simple case of what was advertised vs. what we got. The picture is the reason why I chose this item and I was surely disappointed. It lacked flavor, was thin and hard. Just Like a rock, I could toss it at someone's head lol. Not only that, the male employee at the front did not want to serve anyone, he seemed annoyed to be there with arms crossed while leaning on the back as we approached. Took our order with sighs and a stone face. He did this to a few other customers so it seems like he's unhappy there, however it fits right in with Cletus's character ha Wished our experience was different! Sad to say, avoid this place.

My cousin and I ate here on Sunday November 2nd during HHN and their grilled chicken sandwich was awful. What I received was not what was advertised in their pictures. The chicken looked like it was boiled and was not seasoned. The chicken was also extremely dry. I have eaten at this place before and it was decent in the past.

This is one of those times when I’d advise you to take this 100% literally and stay away from this place. The setting itself is okay, but honestly, I’d rather eat at Moe’s Tavern, which offers better food, a better vibe, and that immersive Springfield feeling that Cletus’ Chicken Shack completely lacks. Despite being themed after The Simpsons, it feels disconnected—aside from the name and a few TVs playing clips. As for the food, it was downright disappointing. The chicken was so dry I practically had to bite down hard just to chew it. The fries tasted old, like they’d been sitting out for hours, and the only “juicy” thing in the sandwich was the tomato, which tasted like it had been soaking in water. I’ve never thrown food away before, but this meal changed that. And while I understand that theme park prices are high, $18 for something this bad is just absurd.
Looking at everyone get good looking food and then you get a half assed plate. When you ask for a change of some stuff on there you get told no, since you already touched the tray. Well when you’re dealing with a crying toddler and they only give you a second of attention it’s hard to bring it to attention. Not a three piece more like 2 and a quarter.
I really should have read the reviews before eating here. The food was terrible. The chicken tenders were nothing like the picture on the menu. They were undercooked, rubbery and dry. The fries and corn also tasted awful. Everything tasted like they put all of the food in the microwave. I really wanted to complain and get my money back. I really should have talked to guest relations before leaving the park. I was very dissappointed because it cost $16. Don't eat here.
Zero flavor whatsoever, comically overpriced, and doesn't have the same novelty of Krusty Burger to save it. Avoid at all cost.
