Hama sushi Venice Reviews
The best neighborhood sushi restaurant 🍣 I absolutely love Hama, and it’s made my top 5 list of recommendations for a few reasons. A) The rolls are unique, and always fresh. You’re not going to have a bad bite here. B) lots of ambiance and dining options. Dining solo, come. Date night, come. Large group, come. Hama has space and they use all of it very well. Just don’t be surprised if on a nice day you’re packed table to table on the side walk. Share a bottle of sake and have a few beers, this is the kind of place you can settle in and enjoy your time. C) Esther, the owner, is the star. Personally greeting each guest, while keeping a watchful eye on the whole ship. She’s the heart beat. She is the conductor of good times, delicious Japanese bites, and a sanctuary so sacred you might even catch the rich and famous enjoying their time. Highly recommend to anyone, for any occasion. This is a great LA restaurant! Xx, H
Received the most amazing service and fresh sushi here. Reservations are highly recommended for the weekend because they were packed when we arrived and were seated. Really convenient location, easily walkable from Abbot Kinney Boulevard / Venice Beach. The owner stopped by our table to speak with us for a moment and was so sweet!
I hadn't been to Hama Sushi for several years. It was just as I remember it and better. I met Esther, the owner, a lovely woman. The cooked mussel starter dish is delicious and the sushi sampler plate was just what I wanted.
Had my 29th birthday here. Great experience. Met a few party animals and ate way too much food off the happy hour menu. This is a surprisingly chill bar, with big televisions and a community atmosphere. Highly recommend getting the house sake. They serve it out of a bamboo thing that is just awesome.
Love how there are two sections to this place, a bright indoor patio area to the right. A classic, dim-lit sushi bar to the left. Truly feels like Japan meets Venice Beach and the best of both worlds can be found here. Decently priced considering the location. Sushi rolls range from $8-$25 depending on the fish choice. An avocado roll is like $6. I got a sashimi salad, which came loaded with fresh fish. Light and filling, cost $25 after tip and tax. They have gluten free soy sauce and you can substitute upon request. My friend has a sesame allergy and another friend was gluten sensitive. They subbed the tempura for an extra piece of sashimi in the bento box, which was very kind. The owner actually came by to ask how we were and to thank us for our visit.
The Best sushi place I've visted in Venice! It's packed like crazy and Bruna thank you! She suggested The sushi Combo and a little of everything OMG sooo good! Will be visiting again soon.
Hama sushi has the most amazing rolls! Historic spot on Windward Circle in Venice, and just a walk off the beach.

My daughter turned 35 yesterday. Which means I went to Hama sushi 36 years ago. At that time my friend and I were pregnant and convinced ourselves hama sushi Tasted too good to contain any parasites.😄. And so I was heartbroken to see that their exterior had been destroyed. Esther, I will be bringing by some shells and air plants today. Hopefully you will see that the neighborhood does not want you to get discouraged by the current conditions of our wonderful neighborhood.
Very nice food in a fun atmosphere. Friendly and quick service. I think it was open mike night when we went (a Thursday) and it was very nice.
Happy Hour is the best! Love the indoor / outdoor exp weather permitting. Many dishes like a little delicacy.

Not fully Japanese kinda sushi spot, but been around for several decades. Solid. Sushi was good. Fresh, tasty. Hand rolled spicy tuna was just average. Best one in town is at Matsuhisha. Tempura was ok, best part is th fresh wasabi. Super tasty.

I made a reservation for 5:30 pm last Saturday. Although the restaurant was still empty, the hostess gave us the worst table in the restaurant. I nicely asked her to get me a better table, but she denied me the opportunity to sit at the other available tables (for two) that were in the Main room. Because of her lack of goodwill, I decided to tell her to get me the table in the Sushi room, because my reservation was for there. She didn't believe, so I had to show her the screenshot from my cellphone to prove it. I go to this restaurant since 2004 when I first lived in Venice. I know the owner Esther since then. The 3 stars I am giving are not for the food or for the way this wonderful lady runs her business, but I find important that she's aware of how some employees can suddenly turn her business into a bad experience, like the one I had that night.
Hama is an unpretentious Japanese restaurant located down Venice in Los Angeles. The sushi is not the best ever I eaten but it’s good, technically correct made, plus (big plus) they serve ice cold Sapporo! 😀 I would argue that Hama is the perfect spot when you like a casual, uncomplicated yet tasty bite with friends & colleagues. I mean, what more do you need sometimes?
They definitely do have a happy hour, but their rolls are small and overpriced. We got a spicy tuna and spicy salmon and also their sushi sampler (all pictured) and I don’t think it was worth the $$$ we spent. The service at the bar was great though- dedicating all three stars to the sweet woman who served us tonight. If you’re looking for quality and to pay a slightly lower price for larger amounts of sushi, just go to sugarfish 😊
Good sushi in a fun atmosphere. Seems to be a locals hangout. I wasn’t a big fan of my yuzu role, but I’m willing to return and try something else here.
udon, don’t recommend. Lobster roll, fine. Grilled eggplant, good texture, but too strong sauce. Lights are kind of dark.

I hate to write the truth because the management and vibe is great. But the fish is no longer great. Been going here for what feels like my entire life and the flavor/quality of the sushi last night was bad. The presentation was actually terrible. I dont know if they are skimping on the fish or the chefs but it’s an obvious change.

The service was very slow, had to ask for things two three times from our main waiter, most of the times when we got things it was from asking someone else. One of our meals was never made until it was time to close the kitchen, then nobody ever brought out a fork after we requested so we had to eat it with our hands cause we were already over the wait. Sushi was bland, shrimp tempura wasn’t even tempura it was just a fried shrimp which I’ve never seen made that way before. Overall did not meet any of our expectations. Best thing was the dumplings and the spicy tuna with the red masago

Server came to our table after a few minutes and asked if we wanted to order anything. Our table had a child so we said please give us some time. She never came back and another server came 10 mins later, i’m assuming because her shift ended. We ended up waiting 20 mins just for waters. The food was abysmal to say the least. The sushi is overpriced and the fish is so thin I can see through it. I ordered chicken teriyaki and it was not worth $28. Also who puts soy sauce in their salads??? I’m asian and I have NEVER thought to do that once. Overall extremely disappointed considering how great the reviews were for this place.

Only good thing here were the ladies preparing the rolls, they were very nice and great service. Other than that, rolls are small and expensivee. I ended up leaving and buying a slide of pizza.
