Colesterolo Via Dei Mille Reviews
A must if you're in La Spezia!! We ended up here just for the location, but it turned out to be our best meal so far! The seafood starter was just unbeatable and plentiful, the wine was wonderful, the service was attentive - the pasta with mussels for our children was served without spice, yet absolutely delicious, in two plates. This meal made me happy to my core for a price that other restaurants charge for average food. Highly recommend!
Such a great find in La Spezia! We were looked after very well and were able to order in English. Enjoy!
I was a bit concerned at the beginning based on the reviews but this place is a real gem. Whoever looks for Italian authenticity will find it in this restaurant. Family run business, the kitchen is not well separated from the dining area but at least in February it was not a problem at all, in fact makes the place feel like we are part of the cooking, I personally loved it. The food is super delicious, not a big variety but this is what it makes it unique. Everything is coming fresh from the kitchen. The atmosphere is eclectic such as all good Italian places.
One of the most incredible meals I’ve had in my life. The sauce and pasta and seafood were magnificent. The house wine is one of the best white wines I’ve tasted. I have been to Michelin star restaurants all over the world. And the flavors in the dishes at cholesterol can stand up to any of them. Highly recommend
Lovely restaurant with delicious food, a great atmosphere and attentive service. The chef worked tirelessly and fast to create our fantastic meal for 6 of us. I would highly recommend a visit here when in La Spezia
We were desperately searching for an open restaurant with italian cuisine. Most of them were closed because it was sunday, off-season and also siesta.. We came across this restaurant and hoped for a good lunch as it was supposed to close at 3.. it didnt. We had carbonara, pesto lasagne and house wine and it was all so delicious! And you could shred as much parmigiano as you wanted. Also the owner was so kind and nice to us, he deserves more than 5 stars.
Our group of eight showed up on a busy weekend night without a reservation. The waiter found a way to seat us immediately. It was incredible to watch the waiter take care of all the tables by HIMSELF…

I had high expectations, the pictures looked great. It is just off the main tourist road too. I came for a late lunch and there were only locals here. People passing on the street said hi to those seated. However the vongole pasta was pretty tasteless. The service was good and the atmosphere nice, but the dish just lacked flavor. Maybe I caught the chef on a bad day?
Sunday late night (9:30p) dinner. Service was very slow but after getting the attention of server...things improved. Dinner entrees: Rosemary Steak, Grilled Tuna. Both were ok but not fantastic. Downside: 2 euro charge per person for service and bread (but never got bread). Bottom line .... I'd recommend for late night food since many places were already closed.

Avoid! Lovely seating outside but terrible food. Context: we were dining late and options open for were slim. Waiter was lovely but failed to mention the kitchen was closing before taking our drink orders, and so after bring the drinks he said we couldn’t order pasta from the First Plate menu. As we already had a drink (I had a Campari spritz that was flat and totally void of spritz 😂), even though we were disappointed not to have pasta options we opted to stay and he said he could make only carbonara or cacio e pepe. What came 20 minutes later was the worst cacio e Pepe I’ve ever had. Truly. The sauce was thick like a pint of cream had been poured in. It was like the Heinz pasta yoi used to be able to buy in a tin and microwave. I shouldn’t have ate it but I was tired and hungry, so ate it. We did complain when we went to pay but the waiter said the sauce was also like this, but looking at pictures in other reviews that doesn’t seem right. If the wanted to close and couldn’t be bothered cooking, they should’ve just turned us away…
While I appreciated being seated without a reservation, the overall experience was disappointing. With an open kitchen and no proper ventilation, the dining area quickly filled with cooking smells, which was unpleasant. They had only one bottle of olive oil for several tables, which made it difficult to enjoy our food as intended. Additionally, we were charged for bread and service, yet had to specifically request the bread ourselves. To top it off, I ordered a medium tuna and a medium-rare steak, but they arrived the other way around – my steak was overcooked, and the tuna was undercooked. The backed potatoes were full of oil and overcooked. The food quality and service just didn’t match the price point. I’d think twice about visiting again.
TERRIBLE!! Here’s why. First it started off with them having menus that were outdated and had a QR code slapped in the middle of it and didn’t work. The old menu said it had pizza so we decided t…
Took a really long time to get the food. When I was paying the chef sneezed in someone's food. Ended up with food poisoning
Walked in at 9pm, the waiter said he had availability for two. Sat down and left sitting for 10 mins without a menu. The waiter came and gave us 4 food options (all pasta), said there was no menu. We thought it odd but each picked an option. Then for drinks, again there was no menu we just had to pick red or white wine. We were given a carafe of very warm white wine followed by 2 below average pasta dishes. We saw the chef leaving the kitchen and sitting at a table by himself after our food was served leaving us to believe he was finished his shift and we were only given the 4 very basic options as they were things he could whip up quickly. When we went to pay the waiter was brazen enough to ask for a tip. Very poor standard. If the kitchen was closing we would have preferred to be turned away or told there were limited options before sitting down. Really felt taken advantage of. Avoid at all costs!
