Trattoria il Borgo Viale Generale Stefano Cagna Reviews
Buonissimo pranzo, servizio gentile e professionale.
I've been to Borgo several times and it never disappoints! Excellent traditional Piedmontese dishes, especially the buckwheat polenta with leek and mushroom sauce. Small and cozy place, the staff are very kind and always smiling.
After confirming over the phone that my celiac husband was also welcome, we went for dinner. A delightful surprise. All the dishes were highly appreciated and divinely cooked. My menu was €28 for starters (7 different, very creative and unique), first course, and dessert; my husband's menu was €28 for first course, second course, and dessert. All this was enhanced by the kindness of the owner. Congratulations. We will definitely be back.
We had lunch the week before Easter. The restaurant has been renovated and is brighter. The staff was friendly and accommodating. The food was excellent, just as I remembered. We chose the €28 menus, which included two first courses, two second courses, and two desserts. Everything was truly delicious, with a touch of originality and sophistication. I highly recommend it.
Excellent food. I only had a first course and a dessert because it was evening and I was passing through, but everything was delicious. The atmosphere is simple but the cuisine is refined. The prices are very reasonable. I'll be back for lunch to try the delicious appetizers.
We went there today with my girlfriend and it was a wonderful experience. The place is beautiful, clean, and intimate. The staff is incredibly kind and professional, and the food is spectacular. We had chestnut tagliatelle, tagliatelle with wild boar ragù, braised beef, venison, baked potatoes, chocolate cake with ice cream, hazelnut cake, warm zabaglione, and two coffees plus water. It all came to just under €60 in total. I'd say that considering what we ate, it's a more than fair price, and everything was delicious! Highly recommended for anyone stopping in Ormea.
We stopped in Ormea for lunch before continuing our journey. The lunch was spectacular; the dishes offered, besides being delicious, transport you to the local culinary tradition. The bocconcini appetizer is unmissable; if you want a lighter meal, just order that, but it's truly a journey of flavors. For the first course, the chestnut tagliatelle, very delicate. Congratulations!
It was a great joy to find this restaurant. The menu isn't overly extensive and is well-rounded with traditional dishes, a sign of quality and freshness. Both the appetizers and main courses are truly remarkable; the stewed venison was a dream. The wine cellar is also beautiful, and you can admire it from the beach. The only downside is that the appetizers are served in dribs and drabs.
Lovely atmosphere, beautiful menu
Food was delicious! Nice place to eat!
The white cuisine of the pre-Alpine lands between Piedmont and Liguria finds excellent expression here in each of the menu's offerings: from the herb flan with fondue to the Ormeasco tortello with lard, from the panissetta with chickpea salad in olive oil to the superb buckwheat polenta with bagna cauda, from the Ormea potato and wild spinach gnocchi in Raschera fondue to the chestnut flour tagliatelle with hazelnuts and marjoram... and what can we say about the delicate hazelnut cake with warm zabaglione! Local products are expertly interpreted by the chef of Trattoria Il Borgo and served with grace and kindness in the beautiful restaurant located on Ormea's ancient main street.
We went to this restaurant for lunch because I'd seen some very good reviews. We chose the appetizer/first course/dessert menu, and honestly, I was a little disappointed. The appetizer features a series of hot appetizers, which I found a bit bland. For starters, we had tagliatelle with nettles, which were too al dente—you couldn't even roll them up with a fork. It's a shame, because the ragù was good. The portion was small, by the way. I saw a meat dish ordered à la carte, which was actually quite generous. As was a very nice cold cuts platter. Perhaps we should have avoided the fixed-price menu, which still cost €28 per person.
Looking for something other than a pizzeria on a Sunday night, Google came up with this Trattoria. The starters and pastas are all from Piedmont and unusual, the second courses all meat. Nice puddings and good value wine list. Friendly and helpful service.
For connoisseurs and, if I may say so, even gourmands! The place is welcoming, as is the staff (usually the owner welcomes you). The menu is spoken, always rich in choice. The wine list is surprising and very well-stocked, with reasonable prices. The flavors of each dish are surprising and will leave you speechless. I'm not giving it five stars because I want to try every dish, but I'm sure they won't disappoint.
Unfortunately, the restaurant changed management in July 2025, and we remembered the previous one with a wide variety of excellent food. The current one feels more like a pub, with a limited selection of dishes (2 starters, 1 main course, 1 cheese board, 2 desserts) of mediocre quality. The pictures of the dishes and menus you see on Google for this place are from years ago and the previous management. Furthermore, the cleanliness of the restaurant (the tables were still set after the meal) and the bathroom leave much to be desired. We spent little, but we didn't leave satisfied.
