Max Brenner New York Reviews
One of the coolest places i have ever been is Max Brenner on Broadway, Manhatten. It's only a 2-minute walk from Union Sq. I have been there several times to buy dark chocolate powder and pastery. This is a restaurant, chocolate bar with a chocolate shop. Chocolate comes in many forms, including desserts, cakes, pastries, powders, added to cocktails, or served on its own, so you can dip your fruit or marshmallows into it. They also provide a mini flame for toasting marshmallows. Chocolates are sold in beautiful shapes and packaging. A very friendly, clean, and beautiful place to hold a party or celebrate some occasion with family, friends, or colleagues. I definitely recommend going there taking subways or bus. You will love hanging around the area.
My 10 year old and her 3 friends loved it. My wife and I took the kids after a museum. With no reservation on a Saturday we were seated immediately. Upon hearing it was for my daughters birthday the water suggested have a sparkler in my daughters crepe, which she loved. Great food and atmosphere. Would definitely go back.
WOW! I heard about this place before but never had a chance to visit it until yesterday. First of all the menu: it's very big and unique! They have large selection of signature cocktails and food. I literally couldn't pick anything because of so many choices. The prices: this place is super affordable! The cocktails are below $15 and the food is pretty cheap too. BUT it doesn't taste cheap, everything we ordered was super delicious and I wanted to eat more and more until my stomach started hurting. Definitely coming back!
Great date night for dessert place. A bit hard to get the attention of your waiter if you're at the bar or even knowing who your waiter is but to be fair, it's a busy place so it's not their fault Had the Hazelnut Hot Chocolate which was a bit too bitter for us and Mess Party for 2 which was more than what we bargained for haha
We have been eating at Max Brenner for a long time, and it has always been amazing. As per savory, I would highly recommend eating a burger, and the waffle fries that come with them are really good. If you want a hot drink, I would get a hot chocolate, which is much better than any other hot chocolate you have probably drank. For dessert, almost everything is good but I would get a chocolate chunk pizza. I think it is the best dish on the menu, but waffles, crepes, and fondues are also amazing. While you are stepping out, you may want to buy a chocolate syringe or any other chocolate. Overall, Max Brenner is on the pricey side, but has great food for its value. The decor is also really nice, and I would recommend this restaurant to anyone as there are both savory and sweet dishes.
While Max Brenner is primarily known for its creative and delicious chocolate themed desserts and sweets, their savory non-dessert food is also extremely good, and the cocktails are an absolute treat. Great for a girls or date night or a quick bite, Max Brenner has always been and will always be a great option.
Visited this place on a friend's recommendation and absolutely loved it. This place is generally knows for people who have a sweet tooth but the savoury options were not bad at all. The quesadillas and the waffle fries were really good. The French toast was really good as well. Also there is this iconic pipe I which chocolate passes through the restaurant. Overall will surely recommend this restaurant.
Busy but was seated right away, I came just to get hot chocolate(hazelnut) in a cold winter night and a waffle dessert and wow it was delicious, it wasn't that sweet it was just right. I couldn't stopped talking about it that my family is going to try it very soon, I will come back when I come back to NYC.
The moment you go in you can smell the chocolate in the air! We had the Creamy Spinach & Artichoke Fondue it was delicious and for drinks The Original Hot Chocolate (really good), Italian Thick Hot Chocolate (too sweet) & Hazelnut Hot Chocolate (perfect). The place is big, plenty of indoor seating and love the decor. Also, they have a store in the restaurante which you can buy some of their very unique & delicious products. Perfect if you are looking for a gift. The staff are friendly! Coming back for more chocolate!
Very good deserts and the spinach with artichoke dip was great! We had banana waffles and Nutella crepé. We were serve with a very attentive waitress. All good but the place could be a little bit more careful with the cleaning... we had to ask to change our water glasses because were dirty and the table sticky (for all the sweets I guess but still). Overall nice place for a date
Wow Chocolate Pizza 🍕 was too good the taste was very unique and the great thing about the place was almost everything is based on Chocolate. Chocolates are freshly made in-store itself and served hot with the dishes ordered. Taste of the Chocolates are very fresh and good for all ages to try. Best things about the place was little away from the crowded New York City and there are some good parking 🅿️ spots available in the nearby Streets. Shop is always filled but not too crowded on a Weekend Night, don’t think we will have to wait in the queue to get a table. Place open until 2.00 AM in the night for people to Dine-In/Take-away. Definitely will recommend for everyone to try at-least once purely for the variety of things made/available based on Chocolates.
This restaurant is a family favorite! Although we used to go much more often because I lived in the city, we now go about once a year. Last night we went because a friend was in from FL and we wanted to introduce her to Max Brenner’s. It didn’t disappoint. Our server, Mark, was great! He was attentive to our needs and always making sure we had whatever we needed. He was polite and engaged with our table. We ordered one appetizer, five meals and three desserts. Most everything was delicious. My daughter order the Brenner Burger which came with seasoned waffle fries and liked it a lot (although she said she thought it had too much BBQ sauce, I tried a bite of it and loved it). My daughter ordered the pasta w red sauce on the side and loved it! My husband ordered the banana, chocolate crepe and loved it. My friend ordered the chicken Panini with seasoned waffle fries and loved it. I ordered the quesadilla appetizer as my meal and it was average. It was not a lot of filling and the quesadilla was fairly flat and the shell was dry. I would give the quesadilla the least favorite reading out of all the meals. We ordered the onion rings for our appetizer and everyone of them, especially the chocolate ranch dipping sauce. For dessert we ordered the chocolate fondue which was absolutely delicious (we had the Caramel, white chocolate, and milk chocolate dips). We ordered the cookies and cream milkshake that was good but not great. It could have been much thicker in our opinion. But the favorite of the night was the peanut butter, chocolate, Marshmallow dessert pizza. Everyone loved it and it’s the one item I order every time I come. The atmosphere of Max Brenners is also very beautiful and fun. It is very high ceilings and unique decoration with chocolate syrups on the wall behind the bar. Very nice atmosphere! Also this was our first time being able to walk in and be seated immediately. We had placed the reservation days before for 6:30 PM on Monday night. He got sat right away. We also think this has something to do with the new Max Brenner’s restaurant that had opened up at Times Square. We would highly recommend Max Brenner’s wherever you can find one!! It’s one of our all time favorites!
Although there are some non chocolate menu items, this restaurant is really all about some of the best and most unusual chocolate items, things like white chocolate pancakes (my favorite item)I have ever had. Customer service is good. The decor is very nice. Prices are high but in line with other Manhattan upscale restaurants.
I’ve been coming to this restaurant for the past ten years, and it never disappoints. The waiter recommended the spicy rigatoni vodka, and it was outstanding—better than what I’ve had at some of the famous Italian restaurants in NYC. I also tried the pumpkin spice hot chocolate, which was the perfect drink especially if you prefer something that’s not overly sweet. Overall, the quality of the food, service, and atmosphere is consistently excellent, and I can’t wait to return and explore more of the menu.
Came here for my son’s graduation brunch. We were quickly seated as there were not many people in attendance at the restaurant. The server was amazing, he was very attentive, continued to check up on our table and ensure we had everything we needed. As an appetizer, we had spinach artichoke which was delicious. My oldest son ordered the brenner burger with an egg and he stated it was so good. The rest of the table has pasta Alfredo with salmon and shrimp, it was absolutely delicious. Me and my son’s dad also had drinks. The boozy lemonade was a bit tart but still good and the mimosa was really good as well as the margaritas. Overall the experience was great. Thank you
Big shoutout to Aaria and Xenia at Max Brenner! They were so warm, fun, and genuinely attentive from the moment I sat down. Their great energy, recommendations, and kindness made everything feel extra special. The food was delicious, the atmosphere was great, and their amazing service truly brought the whole experience together. They’re the reason I’ll definitely be coming back
Absolutely impressed with the fantastic vibe at this place! The diverse menu offers a wide range of delicious food items. The waffle fries are a delightful addition, and the dessert items is a must-try, especially the hot chocolate and chocolate fondue. You can never go wrong here!
Not just for chocolate/dessert enthusiasts or aficionados, because it is also a proper restaurant with drinks (not just dessert themed too). Amazing presentation, great taste, large selections, okay prices and decent but quick service. Also sell boxes of chocolates etc. They have a restroom too. First time we had a giant chocolate fondue (which was large enough for 5 people). It came with sparklers which was fun and tasted really good (especially the white chocolate core and chocolate drizzle and mini balls. Second time I had a giant pistachio cookie which came with a delicious white chocolate drizzle and vanilla ice cream. It had a surprise filling of pistachio cream which was heavenly. Overall it was a bit sweet and subdued the 80's milkshake which I had also gotten. This makes me recommend not buying two sweet dishes at the same time.
Not joking, this is the best restaurant meal me and my boyfriend have ever had IN OUR LIVES! We got the spicy vodka rigatoni and a cheese pizza that came out right away btw. Absolutely outstanding. Our waitress was wonderful too! 10/10 experience.
I had a great experience at this chocolate bar in Manhattan. The atmosphere is cozy and inviting, the location is great, and the service was friendly and attentive. The food was delicious, rich flavors and great presentation. The crepes were a bit too sweet for my taste, but I still enjoyed everything else I ordered. Overall, it was a lovely visit, and I’ll definitely be coming back with friends!
I went this evening to treat myself after having a bit of a hard day, and I’m so glad I did. The food & Mocha was absolutely delicious, fresh, and comforting in all the right ways. Every bite felt like the perfect indulgence. The staff was truly amazing. From the moment I walked in, the host was warm and welcoming, and my waitress was attentive, kind, and thoughtful throughout my meal. I didn’t catch their names, but they both made such a difference in my experience. I also want to acknowledge the hostess who was at the front when I was leaving around 8:15 pm. She was just as lovely and welcoming on my way out, which really meant a lot. Their hospitality genuinely lifted my spirits and made my day so much better. Thank you for such a wonderful experience. I’ll definitely be back. 🙏
Update: came back here for a brunch date and it was an even better experience. Our waiter Julio was super friendly and attentive. He was very patient when getting us into the both we wanted. Placing our order was seamless and everything came out fast and super fresh. The breakfast was very delicious and the dessert was off the charts. Thank you again for a great experience. Shout out to Julio! Came here on a rainy Saturday for some warm drinks and something sweet. Left with a great impression and satisfied. Thank you to Monsoor for your friendliness and recommendations with dessert. We enjoyed the food and would definitely be back.
This is the best hot chocolate in the city. Even better than Angelina Paris. This one is just as rich and decadent, but it also has like a nutty ish side also. I can’t quite figure out what it taste like. But it does taste like a really really good hot chocolate. I can’t wait to have this every single year. This location is gorgeous too. You can always sit at the bar without a reservation. The other hot chocolate I would avoid it doesn’t have the same richness.
Great restaurant. Second time here and was just as good as the first time. Burger very good. Kids loved mac n cheese. Italian thick hot chocolate-definitely thick but good. It's like a dessert by itself. Espresso old fashioned was very good. Chocalate old fashioned was good but a little too sweet for my taste. Lavender margarita was also good, a little on the sweet side. Classic European fondue was excellent. Would definitely return.
Awesome experience and kudos to the staff for being so friendly 15 minutes before closing. In fact the hostess told us they’d be closing soon but we had time to enjoy chocolate fondue because they are open 10-15 minutes beyond closing time. Fabulous customer service and delicious treats. Magical experience.
I ordered the Sharing Fondue for 4 people. The quantity was sufficient and the desserts were really tasty except for the crepe which were average. They give you a fire grill to heat marshmallows and it's a nice presentation overall. Two things that I did not like about the food were the crepes and the quantity of liquid milk chocolate in the fondue. Another point that should be highlighted is that I did not see an option to tip lesser/greater than the recommended amount. This seemed unfair. Overall, it's a nice and moderately priced place good for a cozy vibe
My husband and I visited Max Brenner today on Christmas Day and we had a great time. I had his Chocolate Martini and the Oreo Crepe and he had the Cheesecake and White Russian Vodka. Everything was delicious. Our waitress Angela was very patient and courteous. The place was full, but the atmosphere was good. I recommend that you make your reservation, to ensure your stay.
Made reservation but still needed to wait a good half hour on Dec 16th. December doesn't seem to be the best month for a visit. Ordered a lot since we don't go to Max Brenner often. Maybe once every 5 years? Loved it every time 😌 such a fun place to eat if you love desserts. Got two milkshakes - cookieshake and 80's milkshake. I don't think they finished it. It was good but it's just a lot and heavy with everything else. Food was great 🤪 the tacos ripped but tasted good. Dipping for fondue was the best part 🙂↕️ will go again in maybe another 5 years 😁
Wow the quinoa farm salad was legit one of the best salads I’ve ever had. The citrusy dressing wasn’t overpowering and super smooth. Dark hot chocolate was epic as well. Very grateful for the service from Mansoor and the vibes here. She helped ensure that we knew what the best things to order on the menu were. Appreciated the positive energy very much! Def a super solid warm pick me up after the blizzard. Def worth a stop in here while ur in union square! Namaste! 🙏🏼
I love this place! We traveled a distance to get there. When we got there the host said 40 mins because we had no reservations but a waitress came and said she could sit us in 3 mins and we were so appreciative of that! It’s clean, our waiter was amazing, he was busy but he did his best to check on us and accommodate what we needed. The food was delicious especially the Alfredo pasta my friend got and the fruit smoothie was delicious (a little too sweet though) The crepe was crunchy, sweet but good! This was my 2nd time coming so you know I’ll be back!
Great dessert spot, and it does get crowded. Luckily, they take reservations which is a good idea to get. Also, it's a pretty extensive menu from regular entrees to an array of desserts.\n\nAfter…

What a chocolate fix pre theater this is the place! Great hot chocolate! Try the praline and milk chocolate squares. The broadway location.
I’m not usually a hot chocolate drinker, but I was so cold and had heard good things about Max Brenner chocolate, so I gave it a try. And it was sooooo good! Most hot chocolates are cloyingly sweet…
Loved everything about the place- right from the amazing food/drinks to the friendly service staff. Highly recommend the hot chocolate and churros with white chocolate dip.

Max Brenner is an annual holiday tradition for us. The vibes are great for the whole family. We usually come to enjoy the fondue. This visit on a week night was particularly cold outside and busy inside. Service: We waited 30 minutes to get our table and arrived to a great server. However at the end of our order, the server seemed exhausted and detached. I would have appreciated a thank you for coming, to expect the least, but he merely turned his back to us on charging our credit card and left. The place was busy. We ordered: The sharing fondue platter. While the chocolate fondue itself was delicious, the items on the platter seemed like thrown together packaged ingredients. The aerosol whipped cream on the soggy waffle was the low point of the platter. The molten chocolate cake was the highlight. Chicken fingers and waffle fries. Excellent. Would order again. Walking past all the patrons on the way out was a vision of fondue pots and burgers and people enjoying each other's company. I always enjoy this place with my family.
My friend highly recommended the mac and cheese and so I had to try it out. The mac and cheese was good, but I found it perhaps too rich ? I am not sure what cheese they used, but it felt like velvetta. It was not bad, and was quite good - just not up to expectations at the price point. I think in the future I'd try it with spicy sauce on-top if they have it. Service was great. Space was great.
Came here with my mom for Brunch. We were seated right away (around 11:45am) and the place was not crowded. After 25 minutes, we flagged our waiter down and asked to order. We ordered the Neapolitan French Toast and the Waffles, and let me tell you they were both delicious! I have a serious sweet tooth, so this was able to easy my daily craving. I would definitely recommend for brunch!
The chocolate old fashion was a 1st. It was surprisingly tasty. I also had the choco fries and the waffle cheesesteak, both were really good. The highlight was the cheesesteak waffle, I couldn't finish it, but will definitely enjoy it round 2. Next time I will try the dessert....I had absolutely no room this time.
Max Brenner delivers a delightful chocolate experience with indulgent desserts and comforting drinks. The ambiance is lively and inviting, making it a perfect stop for dessert. While prices are a little high, the quality and experience make it well worth the visit.
Well, Max Brenner seems to be a renowned place in NYC 🗽. I have to admit, it did not convince me regarding the food. The quality was not much superior to any of the fast food restaurants we had been to before. Okay, the desert with different graveys for sweet stuff where quite spectacular. Concluded for me it is overrated and very pricey.
Had dessert here awhile ago. This time decided to try out the food. I ordered Brenner Burger. It was good but even though I ordered medium rare it wasn’t juicy. The fries were really good though. We also ordered the wings which I think I wasn’t too great it was definitely over cooked and dry. Overall atmosphere was nice and service was excellent.
The only good part about coming here was the staff they were very friendly. I've visited Max Brenner back when it first opened and it was so much better tasting. I wouldn't recommend for breakfast only because I did not like how my food's temperature was and the bread was hard and cold. I feel they need to work better on that. Also the drink was eh not what I wanted I exchanged it for a better one I did enjoy. They were very understanding of that. Id come here perhaps for deserts but I am not too sure anymore.
We traveled from Boston just to remember the taste of this place. There used to be one near Copley Square and we used to love it. Great place for chocolate lovers, but the menu is diverse enough so you don't need to have chocolate if you're not into it. For the hot chocolate I suggest you try the original first as it's delicious and the additions like the marshmallows or the chocopops can get a bit too sweet towards the end. We ordered a kids Mac n Cheese which came with a great marinara sauce on the side, which complements the cheese nicely. We also had the sharable fondue, which we thought would be ok for two people, but its huge and could easily feed four given the amount of stuff and how sweet it is. Service could be improved. It seems the hostess and the waiters are well aware of the flow of people they get, so just like any other tourist filled place in NYC, the staff can come across as harsh or rude given how tired they get. Do be aware it gets a bit noisy due to the amount of people and the music being on the loud side.
Came here with a party of 13 to celebrate my daughter’s birthday. For appetizers we got the BBQ chicken wings, spinach and artichoke fondue, and waffles fries. Everything was good, but the chicken wings were my fave! For entree, we got the top sirloin & potatoes, max famous Mac and cheese, the burrata pizza, the brenner burger and the cheesesteak waffle sandwich. Food was good, but nothing too special. Though, I really enjoyed the sirloin and potatoes! For dessert, we got the baked cookie dream, crystal churros fondue and the classic European fondue. I love that you can swap and adjust the fondue to your liking. I love churros, but was not a fan of their churros. Overall, this place was great! Our server Josh was amazing! He was super attentive and helpful. I would revisit!
We went there just for the chocolate stuff, and it did not disappoint. They do have regular food, which doesn’t particularly stand out, but the fondues, churros, marshmallows, and sauces are on point. The venue could do with a bit more lighting, it felt a bit unnecessarily dark for the type of restaurant it is. The service was ok, not particularly noteworthy.
This would be my second time going to Max brenner by 14th st union sq and the first time it was amazing my gf and I were seated on the second floor and there is way from privacy on the second floor compared to the first floor. The food is great depending what you get this second time I got a burger but it was bland with little to no flavor for the fries were great 😭 but fries are the easiest to make. The white chocolate chai is amazing 10/10 the banana slip t waffle was good. It’s good for a family get together they have kids menu and the Chocolate is what brought us in. They in fact do have high chairs and the bathrooms are clean big plus. The do have alcohol. But the biggest selection but a decent one , wine and beer
We arrived in the evening for dessert and tea with friends and were pleasantly surprised to be seated earlier than our reservation. The menu offered a wide range of dinner items and desserts, but we opted to share desserts and enjoy some hot drinks. We sampled the Crystal Churros Fondue, although it was a bit dry for our liking. On the other hand, the Melting Chocolate Heart Cake & Shake proved to be a delightful treat, with rich, flavorful chocolate. I personally ordered a White Chocolate Green Tea, which, while tasty, leaned more towards resembling chocolate milk. It would be a nice addition if they incorporated simpler dessert choices, such as cake slices, to balance out their selection of decadent options. In terms of service, we were impressed. The staff was exceptionally friendly, and our orders arrived promptly. We also appreciated that we never felt rushed throughout the evening.
I recently visited Max Brenner in New York and had a mixed experience. Food: The chocolate creations are definitely a highlight! I tried the signature chocolate pizza, which was delicious and loaded with toppings. However, some of the savory dishes fell a bit short and lacked seasoning. Service: The service was okay. While the staff was friendly, it took a while for our food to arrive, and our server seemed a bit overwhelmed. Atmosphere: The atmosphere is fun and vibrant, with a quirky decor that makes it a unique place to dine. However, it was quite crowded, making it hard to have a comfortable conversation. Overall, while the chocolate desserts are worth a visit, I think there’s room for improvement in the savory options and service. I might return for the sweets, but I would hope for a better overall experience next time.
Came to represent the home country. The food was great but the service wasn’t. We waited long until they came to take our order, then when it arrived (pizza + hot cocoa + pumpkin espresso martini) we asked for chili for the pizza and a little spoon for the hot cocoa. The spoon never arrived, although we asked for it multiple times, and we had to ask for the chili 3 times. The waiters don’t come to you even if you try to call them, so until the chili arrived the pizza wasn’t hot anymore…The food was a little expensive. Probably won’t be coming back. Service in TLV is better
We came here for the Italian hot chocolate, and I really liked it! It was so thick and decadent. The Italian pasta with added chicken was surprisingly tasty for a place known for their chocolate. I was not a fan of the spicy rigatoni vodka, the vodka flavour was extremely overpowering. Their food presentation left something to be desired - the smears of sauce on the edges of the plate did not look appetizing.
The thick hot chocolate is not as thick as it seems in videos online but the flavor is a solid 8/10! We got the thick hit chocolate and it was good. The hazelnut strawberry crepe was 10/10 and I recommend it! Giving a low service review because they forgot to give us a fork with the crepe then I asked 2 other employees for a spoon who walked past us multiple times and forgot. Our server was great once I asked him he immediately brought it but this was 10 mins after I first asked for one…
A coworker & I decided to go back to Max Brenner’s for lunch today. Though we almost walked past it. The building is getting a bit of a facelift & is covered by green wooden panels. We split the Mac & cheese as an appetizer & instead of getting our usual burgers we opted to try something new. I went with the waffle cheese steak with waffle fries which was delicious. My coworker went with the chicken schnitzel which unfortunately he ended up not eating more than three bites. He said it was as dry as the desert. When our waiter asked if he needed a box to go he declined & said he didn’t like the dish. The restaurant kindly removed it from our bill even though he said he would pay for it. I had a crème brûlée martini which was amazing. Unfortunately I was too full for dessert. Perhaps next time I’ll skip the appetizer or simply go for dessert one day. If you like chocolate this place is for you.

This place used to be a 10 star place. The food is still decent. The service is excellent. The place is nice inside. The 80s milkshake has gone down hill. They dont even make it as it is described on the menu. This was one of my favorite places but it has dissappointed the past 3 times I've been here. I still have faith, maybe they are focusing more quality on the times square location. Again, the servers are great, very attentive, very nice... The premade choclate stuff In the front is top notch. Wings were very good
The staff at this location need better training. Especially the hostesses, if one has a reservation that was made a week in advance why do we still have to wait almost half an hour to be seated. I asked a red head hostess when can me and my partner be seated ? To which she replied and said “doesn’t matter if you have a reservation. There’s 15 other tables ahead of you”. They need better training, time management, and not overbooking so situations like this can be avoided.
Union Sq location, definitely busy. The restaurant lacks proper ventilation, so it is very stuffy inside. The hostess and staff are nice and accommodating. But the food and entrees are mediocre at best. Over cooked rigatoni, dry Mac and cheese, lukewarm warm food being served. The thick milkshake is nice and not overly sweet, but the fondue leaves much to be desired. Overall, it was a NYC holiday experience. But I don’t think we will be back.
I was pretty excited to try Max Brenner but was a bit disappointed. The decor was nice and cute but overall service and good were just OK. We ordered the strawberry Nutella crepe... was nothing out of the ordinary.... feel like the local crepe place back home makes it better. Service was blah. Would not recommend it... must have better crepe places in the city.
EDIT* After posting this review, I was contacted by Juliet from Max Brenner management who took the situation very seriously. She apologized sincerely and addressed our concerns in a professional and respectful manner. I truly appreciate the follow-up and the effort to make things right. Thank you, Juliet. Really disappointed with our experience at Max Brenner. The service was extremely inattentive from start to finish. The staff seemed unorganized and uninterested, which completely took away from what should have been an enjoyable visit. The atmosphere also felt very off. Max Brenner used to feel like a classy, cozy dessert spot, but this visit felt chaotic and poorly managed. What was most upsetting was that we accidentally tipped over our tea, which spilled all over us, the seats, and the floor. Not a single staff member came to help, offer napkins, or clean it up. We were left wiping everything ourselves while the tea just sat there on the floor. That level of indifference was shocking. For a place known for its experience and desserts, the service and environment truly ruined it. Unfortunately, we won’t be returning.
This was my second time at Max Brenner. I visited in early March 2023. I had a difficult time deciding what to order but it seems like the menu options have improved since I first visited years ago. The restaurant is known for chocolate being included in their dishes. I ended up ordering the pizza. There were mixed reviews from the others I dining with. Some liked their meals and some didn’t. I was more pleased this time. I also tasted the chocolate chip cookie with ice cream and it was okay. We sat upstairs which is not accessible as there is no elevator at this location. The restrooms are also located downstairs. There is a chocolate shop located here where you can purchase goodies. This location is accessible via public transportation. This place is always busy/crowded I recommend making a reservation. I would return. Try it you may also like it.
We ordered the fondue set ($34) and found out two days later that we were charged over a hundred dollars. The manager Oscar was lovely and very helpful on getting our refund back, turns out the server herself charged us that ridiculous amount. Thank you very much Oscar! Regardless, all customers should double check their charge and keep a picture of their reciept.
Overall, everything was meh. I was a there at reservation time and seated right away. Service overall was good. I had the lemon herb chicken and was disappointed. There was so much lemon it was like a punch in the face- way overused. The mashed potatoes with it were so-so. There was very little spinach on the plate. The signature chocolate martini was ok- didn't really detect much alcohol, though. The Oreo crepe was ok- very rich and filling. The crepe itself was actually not as light as I feel a good crepe should be. Basically- my impression is that everything on the menu is supposed to be "decadence" but to me it's just "overdone." As for the abundance of chocolate- almost all of it is milk chocolate and nary any dark. Also, so much of everything has chocolate hazelnut spread. Also, the restroom was not kept clean.- to me that reflects the level of care and pride of management
Good quality chocolate. However, the dessert is okay. Unfortunately mid. The cookie seemed microwaved and other dessert dishes were lukewarm. They would be much better if they had a pro dessert chef review the menu again and bump up the quality because the chocolate is good. The desserts can be better.
My friend and I visit here after work yesterday. When we arrived we were greeted with a smile by a friendly hostess. It was pretty empty for the most part. Not crowded like I thought it would be which is a plus for me! Our server and waiter were nice & attentive. The food tasted ok. This location is good to try one time and that’s it. I won’t be returning to this location.
We tried this restaurant after enjoying their hot chocolate at Bryant Park, hoping it would be a great spot for our sweet-toothed daughter’s birthday. While the food was decent, the desserts were disappointing. Our daughter ordered the “kids chocolate pancakes with LOTS of chocolate,” (pic) but it barely had any—just a drizzle of white chocolate, not what I nor my daughter expected. The waffle cheesesteak was good, and the mac & cheese was flavorful, but the desserts fell short. The chocolate heart cake was an average lava cake, and the sundae arrived melted into a slushy mix. The atmosphere wasn’t what we expected—more (sticky) Cracker Barrel than Willy Wonka Factory. While it’s a fun novelty, we don’t plan on returning. For us, the desserts didn’t deliver.
The chocolate and Espresso martini my sister and I had were very nice! Unfortunately the experience went south from there with our food orders with the waiter asking upfront as soon as we were seated about any allergies we may have, my sister outlined she was allergic to tomatoes. Unbeknownst to her upon receding the burger she ordered I saw that there was barbecue sauce on her burger. Since her allergy was outlined we both were under the assumption this information was given to the chef, so they would be aware not to include any ingredients condiments included that are made with tomatoes. The waiter was nice (although he never gave us his name), but seemed pretty persistent in stating he didn’t know Bbq sauce was made with ketchup. In his defense that’s not his job to know it is up to the chef to abide by the allergies of the customer. I also ordered 2 scrambled eggs medium with my waffles and got a whole egg instead. I’m not sure how these two incidents fell through the cracks and the waiter did ask to redo the eggs however it was already such a long time waiting on my sisters burger and me trying to wait to eat our food together-we were simply over it. I would have rather ate at the holiday market in my honest opinion Max Brenner is squally such a fun and enjoyable experience this time it was so lack luster. It was also cold inside not sure if that’s do to the ongoing construction they have going on but the atmosphere has truly lost its touch. It will be quite some time if I decide to return again. Really sucks because it’s the holiday season and I e been wanting to come here for quite some time and left highly dissatisfied.
The atmosphere has not change and the service is still great but the food was not edible. I order the lemon herb chicken and the meal was overpower by the lemon flavor. It did not feel fresh and I was not able to enjoy it. My wife ate a spicy rigatoni and it was good flavor but felt a bit dried. Overall we were a big fan of max brenner but it has become hard to enjoy certain dishes.
Walk in Friday night ~9:45p for only dessert, practically no one there (~4-5 tables filled). Time to water ~4 minutes. Ordered Baked Oreo Cookie and Banana Hazelnut Crepe. Sweet, would not recommend solo devouring, must share between 2-4 people/plate imo. Quiet ambiance, easy to talk to. Very very dim, I can appreciate the decour and vibes, more fitting for date than group hangout, could just be me tho 🤷♂️ Staff is nice.

This place is the best example of “not what it used to be.” Years ago, Max Brenner used to be one of the greatest spots to hang out, even a perfect place to take a date before or after a movie. Now, the experience is totally different. The moment you walk in, there are boxes from delivery vendors piled around the host stand. The booths are wrapped in cracked, broken leather, and the tables are uneven, not by half an inch, but by almost an inch and a half. That’s ridiculous, especially for a business that clearly isn’t struggling and should easily be able to take care of basic maintenance. It feels less like they don’t have money and more like they just don’t care anymore. Service was another disappointment. We were in a section with two servers. The younger man with tattoos was fine, but the older bald gentleman clearly saw us and still didn’t care to help , even after we asked him for a second time just to get our check. I really hope they turn things around, because this used to be a place I loved, and I want to see them succeed for many more years.
Years ago this used to be my favorite place but recently quality went down. The area is not as clean, especially the bathrooms. We came here for their dessert which is what they are known for but the crepe was not fresh, it tasted like one of those premade crepes you heat up and was a bit burnt. The chocolate syrup became hard right away, and was way too much of it, maybe to try to cover up the burnt crepe but it was wayyyy to sweet could not even eat it without chugging 3 glasses of water. money wasted, go somewhere else

Dosent matter what the restaurant is like if you can’t get seated. Had reservations for 12:15 and showed up and the restaurant tells us that’s an additional 30 minute wait at 12:30 because they didn’t plan better. The restaurant wants you to make reservations in 15 minute slots and show up but their system does not account for people who dont leave. So they have you wait. Not ok with young kids when hungry. Avoid unless you have a lot of free time on your hands or you are showing up on a weekday. Update were seated 45 mins after reservation and food not here after 30 mins. Restaurant is a disaster in all ways
I would not recommend this place if you are counting on reservations or don’t have a backup. We got there 15 min before our reservation time, was told to wait 15 min, and then told that it would be at least another 45 min. I pointed out that they should not have taken our reservation if they couldn’t accommodate. The host made no effort to apologize or make amends. Max brenner has gone down in quality and service. Too bad because 20 years ago it was such a cute place.
Came in with a friends got sat at the bar just to be left for 30 minutes after we had asked if anyone was going to come take our order and no one came. Later was told to move to a table just for them to leave us again for another 15 and we just came for drink . Definitely does not have good service. Not coming back at all . I would give a zero if I could but no one came.
This place has a versatile menu and their food was delicious as well as their drinks. My rating is simply because of the roach I saw in the bathroom. Cleanliness should be a priority in a restaurant setting. If this is in the bathroom imagine throughout the restaurant itself. The service we had from our waiter was also amazing. I would say when I came to this location many years ago they had the Philly cheesesteak on what it seemed like a ciabatta bread. I am not 100% sure if it was, but it definitely tasted better on the bread than the waffle I had it on. The steak by itself was amazing, we even mixed in our Mac and cheese the next day and it was the best of both worlds. This is a very romantic place whether it’s date night or a special occasion. The fondue is very interactive and intimate.
I used to love coming here, but it's gone way downhill. I recently came in for brunch and it wasn't busy at all. The hostess was super sweet and seated me right away in a mostly empty section (she would have gotten 5 stars). My waiter didn't introduce himself, never refilled my empty water glass until I specifically asked when he dropped off my food even though I was right by the water station, and never came to check on me outside of dropping off food. He delivered my iced coffee with no milk or sugar and I couldn't find him, so I just drank it black. I requested the dark chocolate ranch for my fries (specifically mentioning that it was listed on the menu for the onion rings and asking if that was possible) and they brought me regular ranch and a vial of milk chocolate sauce. When my main dish came out, I checked with my waiter to see if that was how it was supposed to be served and he left without answering. He did bring me the other sauce shortly thereafter, but my fries were cold. I also ordered one of the specialty waffles and 4 of the toppings were missing out of the 8 listed. They also tasted like frozen waffles instead of the homemade ones they used to have. I was extremely disappointed and ended up leaving without eating more than half my food because it was so bad. Extremely disappointing. I honestly can't see myself going back again.
If you’re reading this, let it be your sign to go elsewhere!!!!!!!!! I am never ever ever EVER the type of person to write a review, no matter how truly awful the service is. But this was such a disappointment and I hope I can save at least one person from wasting their time like I did. I’ve celebrated many holidays at Max Brenner in the past, birthdays, Mother’s Day, Valentine’s Day. It was always amazing service and food. I don’t know what changed but this experience was a disaster. I noticed there were many negative reviews recently, but I’ve always been the type to take things with a grain of salt and be my own judge. Trust me: formulate a different opinion at a different restaurant. My boyfriend and I traveled 2.5 hrs by train for a 2:00 PM reservation. We arrived at 1:50 to an overbooked, sweaty, angry lobby. So many people were there, it wasn’t clear what line was for checking in versus takeout. Despite our reservation, we weren't seated until 2:59 PM. When asked if we could be called/texted instead of standing and waiting, we were told if we left the cramped room for air, we’d lose our spot. I want to add,, all the workers in the front and our waitress were nice given the circumstances. However, by interacting with anyone, you felt their vibes were extremelyyyyy overwhelmed in the chaotic environment, which nobody coming to spend money wants to be greeted with the second they walk in. Uneasiness, stress, anxiousness everywhere. Once seated a minute shy of 1 hour past our reservation,, the waitress insisted we order everything at once so the kitchen could "space it out." I told her I was a little indecisive, because if we order now I don’t want everything coming all at once- I’d want drinks appetizers then desserts. I was reassured giving our order upfront would be the best case scenario for everyone. Ok cool makes sense. WELLLLL our desserts arrived literally 5 minutes after ordering. When I told the runner we hadn't had drinks or apps yet, he rudely said, "Well this is what's ready for you now." My boyfriend and I are very non confrontational people, so we took it, despite knowing it went against what we specified. When she walked by, our waitress just laughed awkwardly at the mistake. I wish I could go into more detail, but these reviews have limits so I’ll summarize the main points. It took 25 more minutes for shakes to arrive, and after multiple "is 20 more minutes okay?" checks from the overwhelmed waitress, our appetizers finally arrived cold at 4:23 PM. All my boyfriend and I could do was laugh while staring at all the cold food in front of us. We hadn’t touched our crepes atp as we trusted Max Brenner to deliver quality service, and did not expect it to take another hour for some lousy waffle fries and wings. Our fault I guess. Anyway, we asked for 3 to go boxes and the check shortly after the appetizers came, because the vibes truly felt wrong in there, we were very uncomfortable and did not feel taken care of at all. I’ve been a server and I’m a Pediatric MA. I understand the stress of a restaurant position, and I understand holiday stress. But this was ridiculous. We sat for over an hour watching our crepes turn hard and mushy while waiting for cold wings with no napkins, no forks, and empty waters. When I told my server friends what happened, we all joked we’d be fired on the spot if dessert was brought out before anything else LOL. My boyfriend and I missed all our other Valentine’s Day plans because a 2:00 PM lunch took over three hours. Even the bathroom had a 15-minute line where I watched a child cry because they had to leave after waiting too long for their table. The consensus among all girls on the line was “never again.” To top it off, after my boyfriend paid, the waitress approached me asking for the money again… So busy in there she couldn't even keep track of who had paid. Over $100 wasted on cold food and a disorganized mess. Save your money, and don’t bother coming here. Especially on a holiday. What a true shame!!!! Images with time stamps will be attached.
I have never had such a disappointing customer service experience. When I visited, the restaurant was almost empty and it was not a busy hour, yet I still waited about 10 minutes before anyone came over to take my order. When I asked the waiter about a deal I had seen before, they responded rudely, told me they don’t offer it anymore, and then walked away without taking my order. It took another 10 minutes just to get their attention again so I could finally order. Even when I tried to get a simple cup of water, I had to wait an additional 5 minutes just to wave someone down, even though the staff were just standing around talking to each other instead of checking on customers.
.. Let me start off by saying the Caesar salad was the ONLY item i actually ate and enjoyed.. ( pretty sad i ended up getting one to go) . I ordered a Besame Mojito, Rigatoni vodka. The Besame mojito was disgusting just to start there . tasted like medicine. the waiter so so kind he took it back. If it wasn't for the waiter i would've left 0 stars loll he saved the day by at least trying and being so nice. He got me a regular mojito and that was actually nasty tasted like dirty mint leaves. it was so over powering with the mint. i literally had to pull out 6 large mint leaves and stems out of my drink. My rigatoni was spicy but not even enjoyably spicy... clearly whos back there cooking doesn't know what its supposed to taste like. and there were SOOOOO MANY Red onions.. I've never seen 50 red onion slices in a rigatoni pasta dish. i didn't eat it lol took 3 bites to try and couldn't it was nasty. the steak was nasty as well and dry and it looked like my steak wasn't even cooked at an even temp the middle was pink outside was burnt dry... and the hostesses didn't seat my party together. 5 of us o the reservation. 2 people came early and were sat downstairs.. why did I ( the host) arrived 3 mins after and they sat us upstairs separately.. DISORGANIZED .. The girls at the front checking people in ( blonde & brunette) need new jobs because if you cant see the names and notice that the individuals are TOGETHER BUT SAT THEM SEPERATLEY needs to be fired... we had to find each other in the restaurant and didn't even get an apology, half was downstairs and the other 3 were on the balcony level so imagine the inconvenience. Best part of the day was the salad, the waiter i forgot his name i believe his name was IAN P,, He was amazing! , and the fondue. everything was disgusting. will not be coming here again. but I'm not missing out on anything with the lack of quality at this location. your hostesses (blonde long hair, brunette/ short black hair ) are awful and do not know how to seat reservations or guests. Yesterday was a terrible experience for everyone in my group and our mothers on valentines day. please hire better hostesses . Your wait staff are more on point than your front of house host staff. they're the first point of contact and made yesterday awful , do better. first time visiting and we will not be returning. Additionally. GIVE IAN P A RAISE! He made a disastrous night amazing with his service and his attentiveness. my daughter and mother and mother in law were angry with the experience but his engagement made up for a lack of good food and hospitality.
No exaggeration when I say a terrible experience overall. Upon walking in, the whole place was dirty, the floor very muddy, but that's ok I just wanted a hot chocolate to go. I ordered a classic to go, and waited about 10mins before one of the staff asked me if I was waiting for a drink. I said yes, she turned to ask her coworkers and everyone in the back looked confused because they couldn't find the ticket. A man came to the register and asked if I had a receipt. I said no, I could have shown him the transaction on my phone but chose not to because he immediately had an attitude and blamed me for not having a receipt. He said every order asks for a phone number to be put in so I should have a receipt... I’m not sure maybe he was drunk or something. I said I didn't have a receipt but I placed the order. He rolled his eyes and turned around, he returned with a drink in less than 20 seconds and placed it on the counter aggressively. I begrudgingly picked it up and tried it. It was terrible, mostly water, and the whipped cream was barely there, everything about the hot chocolate was cheap. I placed the drink back on the counter and walked away because the whole experience was just that bad. Nearly $9 down the drain, for a small hot chocolate. If you want good service, a good environment, and, most importantly, good hot chocolate, do not go here.
I’ve been to Max Brenner probably a hundred times in the last decade and it’s been amazing every single time UNTIL I went on Valentine’s Day this year with three friends and we had quite literally the worst service I’ve ever had in my life. I got there ten (10) minutes before our 4pm reservation and it still took thirty (30) minutes for us to get seated, another fifteen (15) for someone to bring us waters and take our drink orders, ANOTHER fifteen to twenty (15-20) minutes for our server to take our food order, and then we sat at that table (with our poorly made drinks might I add: no garnish, ice in my straight up martini-style cocktail, flat soda), and then we sat at that table for literally NINETY (90) minutes with absolutely no food whatsoever. We asked our server to check on our food twice and they eventually sent the manager over who tried to ask us to wait ANOTHER thirty minutes (which is upsetting since other tables came, ate, and left in the time we were waiting) when we had to leave for our evening plans, so we all left. At least the manager comped our drinks, so an extra star for that.
Visiting Max Brenner is a holiday ritual and we were so excited to be here. Food was not the usual.. sub par and did not feel the best after dinner. Service was terrible. Waited really long for our food and water to be served. Worst ambience and place looks so messy. Ordered water refills and since we paid our check no one cared to refill our water. Also the bathrooms were so untidy and unhygienic. For the price customers pay atleast maintain good quality. This is just unethical, not the service anyone deserves and we are so disappointed :(
If I could give them 0 stars I would. It was a complete waste of money, extremely disappointing. We had a reservation for 7pm and we still had to make a line to check in with the hostess. Once we make it to the front of the line, the hostess was very rude and accused us of skipping the line. We got seated 1 hour after our reservation time! The food was one of the worst I’ve ever had, McDonald’s dinner would have been better and cheaper! This restaurant used to be good but not anymore. We thought the best part would be the dessert but it was completely disappointing. We ordered the chocolate fondue for $40 and they barely gave us any chocolate, the strawberries were spoiled and mushy, the waffle was not toasted either. And the dessert took 45 mins to get there. Overall it was a terrible experience.

Max Brenner: Your Go-To for a Cozy Chocolate Escape in NYC
Alright, fellow New Yorkers, if you’re ever seized by an uncontrollable craving for chocolate – and I mean, serious, no-holds-barred chocolate – then you absolutely need to know about Max Brenner. And honestly, for some things, it still absolutely holds up.When I think of Max Brenner, my mind immediately goes to their hot chocolate game. Seriously, people rave about it. I've heard from folks who've popped in multiple times, specifically for their dark chocolate milk and the Mexican hot ch
