We went to the Thayer over the July 4 (2025) weekend. My scoring on food (dinner, Zulu lounge, and Sunday Brunch) is based on the entire experience not a niggling thing here or there. It was either exceptional or not - nothing in between. It has been about 25 years since my last visit and happy to report the experience from food to service and everything in between - was exceptional. Our server Monica was terrific and took special care of not only us but all of the patrons she cared for. She was awesome so was this total experience dining at the Thayer. Can hardly wait to get back there. Highly recommend visiting this great and historic Hotel.

This restauraunt has amazing food! Don't let the look of the seafiod risotto fool you! It exploded with taste and every bite was savory and delicous! Salad was a decent portion and fresh! The atmosphere is amazing! The view of the Hudson River from the balcony is breathtaking and relaxing. There is a quaint little garden below the restauraunt overlooking the river with all sorts of flowers. The daisies and black-eyed susans really set it off! I took a photo with Sandy who has been a server at the restaurant for over 20 years. She said she was the first to receive her 5-star pin! Her and the rest of the staff were awesome and friendly! The inside has a victorian feel that is relaxing as well. Wonderfully designed! A must try if you are in the area or staying at the hotel!

It’s a very good restaurant with breathtaking views from the terrace. I think it’s underrated based on Google reviews. Salmon with rice, beets salad, a glass of Chardonnay, everything was delicious. Staff was very welcoming. This isn’t a NYC fine dining restaurant yet finding a good restaurant in countryside/suburbs isn’t easy and this one is excellent. I had a wonderful time dining there and felt taken care off. Breakfast was great too and staff is most welcoming.

Vegan eats review: Was pleasantly surprised to find vegan eats. Squash bisque (a tad too thick and the skins of the squash weren’t completely blended in) Bulgogi (super flavorful. Could use a touch more rice to help cleanse the palate between bites) if they added baked tomatoes it would send it to another level! Would love to see some vegan desserts in the future. Quiet establishment and attentive service but not so much you felt you couldn’t relax and enjoy your meal. Old school vibes. Try to get a table by the window for an amazing view.

Yesterday, I celebrated Mother's Day here with my family. The brunch was simply amazing. The food was delicious and the staff was phenomenal -very attentive. Everything was well organized and running on time. My mom and mother-in-law who are in their 70s thoroughly enjoyed the day. This is my 6th time dining here and I'm never disappointed with the service. Keep up the great work.

My husband and I were visiting the area for our anniversary. The team greeted us the moment we stepped out of our car at Valet, the hostess was very welcoming and Jeff, our waiter, was fantastic! He was so kind, knowledgeable and guided us through the menu, which everything was phenomenal. From the spinach dip with waffle fries to the steak with garlic butter and the mouth watering butternut squash raviolis, we couldn’t get enough! Also, I suggest getting the apple pie with vanilla ice cream to finish off your experience. Between all that and the historic surroundings of the hotel, I would highly recommend!

Our friends from NH were visiting WP for the first time so we went to Thayer for lunch. Wanted to make it a day to remember lunching outside on the patio overlooking the river and fall colors. Our waiter, Seth, was FANTASTIC! Super service, super attentive and made a delicious lemon drop. Our friends had the apple pie and said it was ‘to die for’. A great day topped off with a great meal.

Went for Sunday brunch and it was decently good. Multiple options such as stuffed shells, waffles, potatoes, scrambled eggs, etc but was not blown away. Dessert section was quite large but nothing too insane or unique other than the chocolate fountain. It wasn’t that busy either for a Sunday. They don’t accept Amex which is surprising but you do get a military discount with ID. Overall wouldn’t go back since it didn’t wow me for the price of $52 per person (before tax/tips)

Overall glad I went. Be prepared to spend $100 per person for dinner without drinks. Great for the historic building, River view and visiting West Point. The night I went there was a strong musty smell upon entering the restaurant but it seemed confined to the entrance. It’s a huge space and no one else was there so I thought it was a bizarre choice when they seated a couple with a baby literally within arms reach of my table. I have nothing against babies but they’re bound to make a fuss, and since COVID we shouldn’t be breathing down each others necks. Maybe they were seated there for a good view of the Hudson or some good reason. In any case it’s an honor to visit West Point - my cousin was a colonel and was recently buried there. Bottom line the food is decent but not your first reason to go.

We’ve eaten here a couple of times visiting West Point, and have been underwhelmed each time. Service is always slow. We had to ask for menus and water when we first got here for our reservation. It wasn’t that busy, maybe 10 tables for 2 servers. Hostess had to come over multiple times to help out. Also overheard tables around us make comments about the wait and what’s going on, whether it was the kitchen or service. Another table complained at what they were charged. Steak rib eye ordered medium came out over done, but was still tender and with a good flavor. Risotto was over done. Floor manager came by at the end to ask how things were and in one continued motion walked off after we said food was good but it was a bit slow to come out. Really odd interaction. Staff was nice and friendly outside of the odd interaction at the end. If you’ve never been, give it a try and hope our experiences here are outliers.

Came to brunch yesterday for the first time in decades. I remember the food and service being over the top. Atmosphere was wonderful. Service was a bit off, had to keep requesting beverage refills. There were many nice choices, but again, nothing fantastic. The shrimp cocktail was large but previously frozen (very wet). The carving station offered only ham, no turkey or beef. Used to be more seafood choices. For the price, it was economical, since mimosas and bloody Marys included. Dessert table was generous, as well as the waffle and omelette stations. Had a lovely time with good friends. I do recommend for the price and atmosphere, but don't expect high end gourmet cuisine.

We went on June 29th 2025. Had been here many years ago. The atmosphere is nice great views of the Hudson River. They have a piano player which added to the atmosphere. They had a great verity of foods from waffles to carving station, but I personally did feel the food was high end food. The pice was 58 per person there were 5 in our party. Our server was not very attentive, I actually had to put our used plates on the serving tray when we were done, after she walked by a few time, and it wasn’t just our table. I would not recommend it.

My family and I had reservations for their 2024 Easter Brunch. The view from the restaurant and the decor were great. The food was nothing special. It was something I could've made at home. The scrambled eggs were watery and the roasted potatoes were flavorful but a little soggy. The service wasn't the best. It was a headache to get drink refills and they weren't always on top of removing used plates. It took around twenty minutes to get one of the servers to bring over our check and then we had to flag them down to take our card. It almost felt like we were inconveniencing them. The price per person with tax and tip included was about $85. This was a splurge to celebrate the holiday with my family, so for that price, I expected better service and food.

First off, it’s 2024 how are we still not accepting Amex?! Absolutely ridiculous. The food was absolutely amazing. Arguably the best steak I have had this year. However, I think her name is Cindy.. she’s the rudest waitress I have ever met. I’d say because of them not accepting Amex and the horrible wait staff I will never be back. However, that steak was way too good

The food was excellent but the service was terrible. Upon entering the restaurant, we were taken outside and asked to select a table that we would like to sit at. I picked one that had a great view of the river, but there was another party that had just left so they needed to clear the table. They seated us before the table was cleared and all they did was take away the remaining food and utensils, etc. The white tablecloth was covered in crumbs and they left that there. They gave us some menus. I had asked them if they can replace the tablecloth and give us a clean one. My server’s name was Talia. We ordered two lemon waters and one Coke with grenadine because they didn’t have a cherry Coke to start. We were brought two lemon waters and a Sprite with grenadine. I told her I did not order that and would like a Coke with grenadine. She said she would bring it right out and we never saw her Because she either forgot or just didn’t feel the need to do it. So I had to ask again when she came to order our food. She took my order and then took the order of the second person in our party and then turned back to me and asked me what I would like to order. I told her that she already took my order And then went on to take our third person in our parties order. At this point, we finished our waters and we’re looking around and other people had carafes on their table so that they can refill their water glasses. Our server was nowhere to be found. I went inside and spoke with a manager about this whole situation And so she ended up, bringing out us a carafe of water and apologizing and bringing out my daughters Coke with grenadine. Our food finally arrives and it looks delicious. But there’s one problem because we have no silverware or napkins and the server Talia was no longer to be found again. So I had to go back inside and ask for Silverware and napkins. We ate our lunch and there was another party sitting at the table next to us and their son somehow ended up leaning on top of their table and it collapsed and the glasses fell off and broke. It was such a fiasco. They ended up giving us a 20% discount on our bill.

I walked out very disappointed. The meal was not worth it. After eating their salad I feel i need to identify as a rabbit. We paid $120 per person with no juice. A choice of 2 wine with no consideration that everyone may drink alcohol. Portion size was super small. The menu feel like this year presidential election. Pick what we give to you and pay what we ask you. Over cooked vegetables, grits that taste like they added government cheese to it. The dessert was basically pudding with sugar burnt on the top. The chicken had no taste. If you going to charge 5 star prices ,then the food need to be 5 star food in taste.

Ooof where to begin. Let me say I care for and deeply respect waitstaff always but jfc. There were two tables besides us and they took forever to take our order. They didn’t ask about drinks and then were pissed when we asked for a drink menu?? Ravioli plate was SCARCE for $24 and uncannily tasted of melted ice cream in the worst way possible. Left feeling pissed and still hungry… Never rated a shop under three stars in my life but this is more than justified for a restaurant on a prestigious campus!!

Service was terrible. Head waitress had a condescending attitude. Drink orders were never taken. We each had to ask for our drinks after we received our appetizers, she still forgot my son’s drink. After about 10 min we tried to grab her attention and she put her finger up at us, motioning to wait and kept walking. The food was bland and overpriced. The seafood risotto was water and the actual risotto was still hard, did not have any flavor. Prime rib was ordered medium well, it came rare, and didn’t even have salt and pepper on it. The best dish served were the biscuits off of the app menu. An empty dining room and poor online ratings, management should be more involved in the day to day operations.

Some of the worst service I’ve ever experienced, and I didn’t have high expectations. Staff seemed utterly lost, took our order and 30 minutes passed with no updates. Seeing other guests who arrived after our party of four receiving their food, I asked the waitress who said she would “send a runner down to the kitchen.” 15 more minutes passed with no updates—makes one wonder, where is their kitchen?? Tried patiently waiting another 10 minutes but finally told them we were paying for what few of our drinks they actually brought us. Suddenly our food showed up, boxed and bagged for take out. Chicken burger didn’t have a chicken patty! The rest was sloppily assembled and the containers appeared smashed. It’s pretty clear they care not even one bit. Subpar in every way except the view.

We had an amazing guide GLENN for our West Point tour. It was a natural to make a reservation at The Thayer for lunch. We walked in to an almost completely empty, huge restaurant that resembled the dining room in a nursing home and smelled like a room deodorizer. They were accommodating when we asked to sit out on the patio overlooking the beautiful view of the Hudson. Every table had oversized dirty tablecloths that looked so unappealing and left from a decade ago. Our server was nice enough to put on a fresh cloth before seating us. Three of the four asked if it would be possible to order the Caesar Salad with a scoop of their chicken salad, rather than the grilled chicken add on. Initially the server said the kitchen wouldn’t do it, but we all begged, and she returned with the good news that they would accommodate us. Boy, we didn’t know what we were in for. When our lunch arrived we had a Caesar Salad with something that resembled a lump of puréed food in the shape of a chicken breast all patted together. It was dry, inedible and just pathetic. Do chefs taste the food they serve beforehand? Or for that matter see how a plate looks before sending it out to the guest? This place had needed a complete overhaul for at least 10 years!! That was the last time we were there and had a very similar experience. I was sure it had to have improved. For such a prestigious institution WEST POINT should hold their restaurant to the same standards they do their Cadets!! Don’t go, McDonalds is a way better choice!
