Historic Grounds Whitehall Reviews
What to say about great coffee and delicious food served in a fabulous building by an accommodating waitress. Coffee came in large cups, fresh and hot and strong but not bitter. The muffins were wonderful and the avocado toast, with (me) and without (hubby) eggs, was hearty and tasty. Brought cinnamon rolls home for dessert!! Really a great breakfast, just wish we lived closer so we could enjoy them more often.
I was pleased to find that this restaurant reopened. I ordered the turkey, stuffing, and cheddar grilled sandwich, and it was delicious. My dad enjoyed his pancakes (breakfast is available during the afternoon). Portion sizes are large. Prices are reasonable. Our server was very pleasant, and the service was good. I look forward to returning.
Beautiful building in a gorgeous old historic town. This coffeehouse is the center of town so I was excited to give it a go. The service was non-existent. The workers mostly just stared blankly and even after I tipped, she kinda just threw the cheap mini half and halfs at me. I am not sure if the attitude was because I was the only non-white person here, but I’d to think its not race-related and that the worker was just over this job. Anyways, I am happy I tipped even though it was hard to do with the mean girl service but that is a goal of mine: to rise above hate. I gave 5 stars because its a beautiful building in a beautiful town which is where the navy was created- thats pretty cool 🇺🇸🇺🇸 I woulda stayed for breakfast but of course wanted a friendlier environment
Beautiful cafe with fantastic food. I had the breakfast sandwich on rye and it was delicious. My friend had the blueberry pancakes, which were loaded with fresh blueberries and perfectly crisp (and huge). The building is a historic bank building and beautifully decorated. Highly recommend this cafe if you’re in the Whitehall area!!
Good food & coffee in a beautiful historic building. This is probably your best option for a meal in Whitehall, especially breakfast/lunch. They have a full barista bar but you can do well with just a quick cup of coffee to go. Eggs and pancakes are as good as it gets, the menu is simple and done right. The place is well-staffed with friendly competent people, which is a real accomplishment in today's labor market. The building's historic use was as a bank and then a town office. It's brick with classic decor, high vaulted ceilings, and lots of open space. The park across the street also provides a good spot to wait for a group to arrive. There's also the riverside walk which can be nice weather permitting. Parking is on-street or at the nearby lot, but it never seems busy.
The interior of this renovated historic building is wonderful. Staff was friendly and running non-stop on a late Sunday morning. Breakfast was great and fairly priced. They have popovers (they're okay) for extra $ but the rye toast that comes with breakfast was fire. Toasted, soft, fresh baked, and buttery.
Food was great as was the service. Their breakfast was extremely good and my friend raved about the grilled cheese with tomato (large sandwich with lots of cheese). The old brick is carried through inside and is really a cool looking building. Will definitely be back.
Amazing breakfast with super fresh veggies in the omelet, tasty cheese, and high quality ingredients all around. The popovers were tasty and fun but I really loved the pancake. Almost a sweet vanilla flavor to them and very moist but not undercooked. They took reservations on a Saturday of a holiday weekend which saved us waiting in line. Very friendly staff and loved the decor and atmosphere!
Worth a stop for the staff and the building! We were passing through on the highway and stopped for lunch, and were very pleasantly surprised. Super friendly staff really made is feel welcome. All homemade food, good coffee, and a genuine friendly small town vibe. They've done an amazing restorative job with a historic building, and it feels almost like a ballroom in a fancy hotel, but also a great local cafe. Ate too fast to get any pictures!
We sat for 5 minutes before we were acknowledged, and two groups came in after us and got menus before we even got attention. They came over to ask us what we wanted and we still hadn't seen the menu. The food was pretty good tho. The building is beautiful.
Very nice place to visit. The menu has a solid variety for anyone looking for a good breakfast. Build your own omelettes, Benedicts, pancakes, you can't really go wrong. They also have a lunch menu which also looked very appealing. There are a couple historic things to look at near by with a short walk along the waterway. Overall, I will be back!
The food is good. But inconsistently so. One day it will be totally perfect but the next time the French toast is too soggy or home fries are under cooked. Salad greens are always fresh so that's a plus! They will correct any issues you report though. Super friendly staff, so don't settle for less than great!
We had breakfast here on Sunday. The place was full. They only had one server on. Let me say she was amazing. She not only was waiting on all the tables . She was also, taking all the takeout orders in and out , and busing the tables. She did one amazing job and never lost here cool. Kudo's . oh, and breakfast was great too.
Nice location in a restored building. Lots of natural light due to huge skylight in ceiling. Limited hours on Sunday. Breakfast and lunch menu, but they stop serving pancakes and waffles at 11:30. I had a cheeseburger which was good, but not exceptional. Plate came with chips when I wanted fries, my fault for not asking.
Stopped for lunch while on the road for work. Gorgeous interior - including the restroom. Exposed brick, period art, and historical items all made for a visually interesting and comfortable ambiance. The food was first rate. I can't comment on the whole menu, as I was only considering a sandwich, but I can say that the appetizers sounded appealing. I ordered the Reuben and it was amazing - tender corned beef, flavorful Swiss, and perfect sauerkraut. It came with a side salad and I opted for the roasted red pepper/artichoke salad. Yum. HIGHLY recommend this restaurant - you won't be disappointed!
This is a great place for breakfast and lunch. Pancakes are huge, they fill the entire plate. Sandwiches are very good. The pastry's are homemade and delicious. The owners work the place and are very friendly. Take the time to go and taste the food and take in the atmosphere.
Waitress was sweet and attentive. Cashier was rude and hurried people. My biscuits and gravy were cold and not too tasty. My friend's food was amazing thou and she was happy with the gluten free bread
