Historic Grounds Whitehall Reviews
Wednesdays are the only day they have burgers, but the Henry O (grilled cheese + tomato soup) is delicious any day of the week!
Great food and such a cute space! The perfect place to stop for coffee or lunch
Good food. Good service. Homebaked items. Excellent brewed coffee. Historic atmosphere.
Can't beat this restaurant! Especially for the price. $25 got two people a huge breakfast and coffee. The French toast is to die for.
Excellent homemade food. Soups and homemade potato chips are especially good. I recommend the pumpkin bisque if they have it.
Tasty, large breakfast at affordable prices. Good looking restaurant with friendly staff.
Go to place when we visit VERMONT. CONVENIENT. Good service and menu. Food delicious and very reasonably priced.
Staff was friendly, Food was Great. Comfortable warm and inviting. I highly recommend.
Food was delicious and the service was great! Enjoyable atmosphere
Quality food, suggest going for breakfast and getting sausage biscuits and gravy - order the half if you aren't starving bc it's a huge serving.
Best restaurant ever! My family loves this place. The breakfast is amazing
Strong coffee, creative sandwiches, huge portions, great service, and a historic setting. Great place for lunch or breakfast.
Delicious food made with fresh ingredients in a great, unique atmosphere. You will not find better food in the area.
Found this place by luck driving home...it was great..awesome space, food was really good, staff was friendly and quick..if you happen to find yourself near Whitehall, make the stop.
Excellent food and beautiful setting. Service was top notch, great job Tonya!
Excellent food, great service and friendly atmosphere!
Every time we visit the area we stop in for breakfast. The staff is very friendly, the food is excellent.
The breakfast is great. The service was quick and very pleasant. Very hard working staff!
I absolutely enjoyed my breakfast here. The food was delicious and the service was outstanding. I didn't expect much in Whitehall, but to find Historic Grounds was great and I fully intend to visit again
Terrific food and good taste. I have enjoyed all of my visits there and bring new friends each time that I visit. I can’t wait for the John Millett sandwich to go on the menu as I want to take a sandwich to John the next time that I visit.
Amazing lunch in this beautiful old red brick building. Staff were all friendly and helpful, and patient with the children. Will definitely come back next time we're in the area.
Found this sweet spot by accident when driving scenic NY Route 22 - was just looking for a clean restroom and maybe a refreshing beverage, and here were all these jaw-dropping baked goods on display - I treated myself to a blueberry muffin and two beautiful cupcakes (lemon with lemon/blueberry icing, and oh-so-rich chocolate with peanut butter icing), which came to a grand total of $8.00. Heaven on earth for eight dollars, folks, all served up with a friendly smile. Oh, and the restroom was spotless. Don't miss this place.
A great find. This place serves breakfast and lunch only. Great sandwiches with homemade potato chips. A variety of coffee drinks. The building is an old back from the 1800's with lots of atmosphere.
Absolutely the best breakfast around. Worth the drive from just about anywhere. Great staff! I’be been there on sunny mornings, and cloudy days. It’s always sunny inside,
This place is a hidden gem! Discovered it while attending Americade in Lake George. My entire riding group loved it so much, the day we left we traveled an hour in the opposite direction of home just to get breakfast! This place is a must.
Lived up to expectations based on reviews. The staff was so kind—they just did everything right. I recommend the east bay and the wood creek. Unbelievably good. When I’m back to this part of the state, I’ll be back here.
I love it here. This town really needed some sort of attraction, Historic Grounds really fills that need. Great for families, dates, anything. Very close intimate feel. Would definitely recommend.
Fantastic lattes and yummy muffins! Perfect quick stop on the drive home to Pennsylvania after a weekend in Vermont. Service was fast and friendly.
Impressive selection of small pastries, great coffee options, eye-catching decor reflecting the history of the town, fabulous service, and Incredibly clean for such an open, Sunny area. If I lived here, this would be my new hangout.
Awesome breakfast and friendly staff. If you're passing through, well worth the time to enjoy excellent food in an historic setting.
The place was recommended by Carol from Carols antiques. The staff was very impressive. The place was gorgeous! And the generous food was delicious. Well worth a stop in for breakfast or lunch.
I love this dining place! Loved the food and latte. Freshly made by friendly servers and cooks. Would definitely dine again!
Really good food at reasonable prices in a very pleasant setting. Very friendly service as well. I will definitely return.
Great food! The pancakes were the largest I've ever seen! Local eats with a fun and friendly staff!
This place can get pretty busy but wait is usually less than 15 minutes. Service is fast and friendly. Food is excellent and reasonably priced.
Great help staff and good locally sourced food. If they have fried bread dough on special don't skip it but everything is good!
Absolutely the best breakfast for miles around, plus delicious pastries and a delightful atmosphere in a converted bank building. One of Whitehall's greatest treasures.
Delicious lunch. All the sandwiches were delicious, as well as the soups. Wish we could try the breakfast sometime, but just passing through.
Had lunch here on the way to Bretton Woods Ski area. Very good food and nice atmosphere. We’re happy to have found it!!
Awesome food. Kind staff. Reasonably priced. Good service. Quick stop or leisure meal.
Great food, service and atmosphere. I highly recommend stopping in for a bite to eat!
Awesome breakfast. Huge portions and friendly staff. Busy but not over crowded.
Absolutely delicious food!! And great prices. I will definitely come back here again and again!
We were in town visiting our son and his new family of 2 in their new home. lol. the last morning in town we went to.breakfast and i had a breakfast sandwich that was amazing. Real sausage patty and perfect amount of bacon. Might of been jan 1 if I am not mistaken. Food was great.the service was also great. I bought 2 pints of syrup to bring home bit left them in sons car. Anyone know Kyle. If you are driving to Seattle any time soon please grab them.
One of my favorite places for a delicious lunch. The historical building, with its beautiful skylight and exposed brick walls, is an added bonus! The service is fantastic and the owners always make you feel right at home.
A great small-town breakfast and lunch spot rolled in with some great coffee and sweets. The food is excellent with big portions to boot. The staff is friendly and always willing to accommodate the customer's needs. Never had a bad experience here.
We go to Historic Grounds just about once a week for breakfast or lunch. This place is top notch. The food is always consistent and the help are fantastic especially Tanya. She always makes us feel at home. This is my favorite place to eat. They won’t let you down.⭐️
Such a blast from the past as far as literally great homemade dishes. The coffee, honestly to die for. Almost like crisp, clean caffeine if that makes sense. Staff very professional and very nice. (Not Fake) The price is just as nice. The way a place is suppose to be. They definitely take pride and it shows all the way around. Thank you!
This is a great place. Excellent food, great atmosphere. Excellent value. My son took me here on Father's day and they were busy, but we had a wonderful time.
This once served as a bank, many years ago. Its be tastefully transformed into a breakfast and lunch family restaurant. Definitely a top pick place to eat if passing through, or if you live near by, a good place to frequent. Food is decent and price is reasonable. Their signature homemade potato chips seem to be whats in place of traditional fries. Some may like them, others may find them a bit soggy. So i dont want to give my opinion on that. Ok, I will.. not crazy about the chips) but I'd certainly eat there again. Great pickles!!
I just visited Historic Grounds for lunch today. I got todays special that was the Pesto Chicken Wrap and it was amazing! The pesto was very bright and flavorful, the chicken perfectly grilled, and an excellent example of a quality feta cheese. I also had the Squash Bisque with was wonderfully smooth and earthy. I would highly recommend to all to visit!
Lovely jewel! We ordered the Gordy Foote (roast beef with horseradish) and Reuben sandwiches. Many locally sourced ingredients. Good coffee, too. The breakfast menu looked good and economical.
Came here before the pandemic. They were closed for a couple of years. Glad you reopened, stopped in this past week and it was just as good as I remember. Keep up the great work will certainly be back! Freash food and good quality too. Thank you!
Definitely didn't expect to find a place like this as we passed through Whitehall! Great atmosphere, maintaining the historic character of the building and town. Pastries and food were delicious at a very reasonable price. It seems that Whitehall could use a few more forward thinking entrepreneurs such as the owner of Historic Grounds to invest time, love and passion into a city that really needs it. Will be back for sure!
What a pleasant and memorable evening. The atmosphere here is warm and welcoming. The food was excellent! Service was flawless and the hosts were friendly. Breakfast and lunch is also great here!
Love the atmosphere in this restaurant with the decorations and the layout of the room. Waitress was very friendly and accommodating (ordered home fries during the lunch hour!) And the food was exquisite!!
Historic ground always has great food. I eat here frequently and have never been disappointed. Owner is friendly and the interior is absolutely beautiful. The menu is also very affordable.
A wonderful, cozy, delicious place to eat. Friendly staff. Wait time is short. Portions a plentiful & always tasty. Partial to Omelettes, always filling & made to perfection. Kudos to Historic Grounds.
Everything we ordered was delicious. Homemade soup, sandwiches on fresh bread and the best latte ever. Service was good too! Very clean, we will be back next year.
We decided to stop at Historic Grounds in Whitehall for breakfast. Great building on Main St, spacious interior, with a view of the canal. We had the market omelet and a gigantic pancake that filled the entire plate. The staff are friendly, the food is great, and the coffee excellent, lots of choices. If you are looking for a great place for breakfast then this is a place to try, you will not be disappointed.
I have visited Historic Grounds several times. There breakfast is fantastic . I just love the hash. Everything looks good and the portions are more than adequate The atmosphere is wonderful. This historic building has been completely remodeled including a skylight, adding wonderful natural light! My son uses a wheelchair and it is nice that the tables are high enough for him to fit beneath Love this place and I know you will too
My parents and I have stopped in a few times when we are headed south from Vermont. Service is great. Food and coffee selection are delicious. The sandwiches are full of yummy ingredients and leave you feeling satisfied. Pancakes are HUGE...one takes up an entire plate!
What to say about great coffee and delicious food served in a fabulous building by an accommodating waitress. Coffee came in large cups, fresh and hot and strong but not bitter. The muffins were wonderful and the avocado toast, with (me) and without (hubby) eggs, was hearty and tasty. Brought cinnamon rolls home for dessert!! Really a great breakfast, just wish we lived closer so we could enjoy them more often.
I was pleased to find that this restaurant reopened. I ordered the turkey, stuffing, and cheddar grilled sandwich, and it was delicious. My dad enjoyed his pancakes (breakfast is available during the afternoon). Portion sizes are large. Prices are reasonable. Our server was very pleasant, and the service was good. I look forward to returning.
Beautiful building in a gorgeous old historic town. This coffeehouse is the center of town so I was excited to give it a go. The service was non-existent. The workers mostly just stared blankly and even after I tipped, she kinda just threw the cheap mini half and halfs at me. I am not sure if the attitude was because I was the only non-white person here, but I’d to think its not race-related and that the worker was just over this job. Anyways, I am happy I tipped even though it was hard to do with the mean girl service but that is a goal of mine: to rise above hate. I gave 5 stars because its a beautiful building in a beautiful town which is where the navy was created- thats pretty cool 🇺🇸🇺🇸 I woulda stayed for breakfast but of course wanted a friendlier environment
Beautiful cafe with fantastic food. I had the breakfast sandwich on rye and it was delicious. My friend had the blueberry pancakes, which were loaded with fresh blueberries and perfectly crisp (and huge). The building is a historic bank building and beautifully decorated. Highly recommend this cafe if you’re in the Whitehall area!!
Good food & coffee in a beautiful historic building. This is probably your best option for a meal in Whitehall, especially breakfast/lunch. They have a full barista bar but you can do well with just a quick cup of coffee to go. Eggs and pancakes are as good as it gets, the menu is simple and done right. The place is well-staffed with friendly competent people, which is a real accomplishment in today's labor market. The building's historic use was as a bank and then a town office. It's brick with classic decor, high vaulted ceilings, and lots of open space. The park across the street also provides a good spot to wait for a group to arrive. There's also the riverside walk which can be nice weather permitting. Parking is on-street or at the nearby lot, but it never seems busy.
The interior of this renovated historic building is wonderful. Staff was friendly and running non-stop on a late Sunday morning. Breakfast was great and fairly priced. They have popovers (they're okay) for extra $ but the rye toast that comes with breakfast was fire. Toasted, soft, fresh baked, and buttery.
Food was great as was the service. Their breakfast was extremely good and my friend raved about the grilled cheese with tomato (large sandwich with lots of cheese). The old brick is carried through inside and is really a cool looking building. Will definitely be back.
Amazing breakfast with super fresh veggies in the omelet, tasty cheese, and high quality ingredients all around. The popovers were tasty and fun but I really loved the pancake. Almost a sweet vanilla flavor to them and very moist but not undercooked. They took reservations on a Saturday of a holiday weekend which saved us waiting in line. Very friendly staff and loved the decor and atmosphere!
Worth a stop for the staff and the building! We were passing through on the highway and stopped for lunch, and were very pleasantly surprised. Super friendly staff really made is feel welcome. All homemade food, good coffee, and a genuine friendly small town vibe. They've done an amazing restorative job with a historic building, and it feels almost like a ballroom in a fancy hotel, but also a great local cafe. Ate too fast to get any pictures!
Very cool atmosphere. Rumor has it, it used to be a bank. Great sandwiches, soup, and coffee. I recommend the Gordy Foote sandwich.
Went here for lunch with a party of fifteen. They welcomed us and got us seated right away (it was after the rush, probably 1:30 - 2:00). The plates were simple (sandwiches came with chips, or for extra, you could get potato salad), but generous enough. i had a turkey reuben. It was lightly grilled, not overly greasy like you might get elsewhere and it was delicious.
Nice stop for lunch ( they stop selling breakfast at 12). Very big sandwiches but my roast beef was not as rare as I'd like it. Delicious soups. Service was good, not great.
What a gorgeous building. The food is fresh and delish. I had a turkey sandwich and it was huge with fresh bread. My wife had the tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwich and they were both great. The coffee was also fantastic.
For Whitehall NY it's actually a 6 star restaurant, but in comparison to the real world it gets 4. Great portion sizes, reasonable prices, fast service. It's that hometown dinner you love with nicer ambiance.
The food was delicious and the coffee was phenomenal! The staff were very friendly and professional and definitely served our Navy Group with pride. Thank you everyone who works here. Would recommend!
Stopped here for breakfast and it was definitely worth the stop. Very nice home town restaurant. Excellent baked goods and great breakfast. Very good coffee and friendly service. The restaurant is located in a very cool old building. I would recommend stopping here for breakfast if you are in the area.
We sat for 5 minutes before we were acknowledged, and two groups came in after us and got menus before we even got attention. They came over to ask us what we wanted and we still hadn't seen the menu. The food was pretty good tho. The building is beautiful.
Very nice place to visit. The menu has a solid variety for anyone looking for a good breakfast. Build your own omelettes, Benedicts, pancakes, you can't really go wrong. They also have a lunch menu which also looked very appealing. There are a couple historic things to look at near by with a short walk along the waterway. Overall, I will be back!
The food is good. But inconsistently so. One day it will be totally perfect but the next time the French toast is too soggy or home fries are under cooked. Salad greens are always fresh so that's a plus! They will correct any issues you report though. Super friendly staff, so don't settle for less than great!
We had breakfast here on Sunday. The place was full. They only had one server on. Let me say she was amazing. She not only was waiting on all the tables . She was also, taking all the takeout orders in and out , and busing the tables. She did one amazing job and never lost here cool. Kudo's . oh, and breakfast was great too.
Nice location in a restored building. Lots of natural light due to huge skylight in ceiling. Limited hours on Sunday. Breakfast and lunch menu, but they stop serving pancakes and waffles at 11:30. I had a cheeseburger which was good, but not exceptional. Plate came with chips when I wanted fries, my fault for not asking.
Stopped for lunch while on the road for work. Gorgeous interior - including the restroom. Exposed brick, period art, and historical items all made for a visually interesting and comfortable ambiance. The food was first rate. I can't comment on the whole menu, as I was only considering a sandwich, but I can say that the appetizers sounded appealing. I ordered the Reuben and it was amazing - tender corned beef, flavorful Swiss, and perfect sauerkraut. It came with a side salad and I opted for the roasted red pepper/artichoke salad. Yum. HIGHLY recommend this restaurant - you won't be disappointed!
This is a great place for breakfast and lunch. Pancakes are huge, they fill the entire plate. Sandwiches are very good. The pastry's are homemade and delicious. The owners work the place and are very friendly. Take the time to go and taste the food and take in the atmosphere.
Nice restaurant in downtown Whitehall. Sunday at 1230pm was very busy w after church crowd. I had the Reuben on rye w potato chips. Very good. My husband had egg salad sandwich on white. Good service 👍
Very tasty, would go here again. I wish the home fries had been crispy, and the mushrooms in my omelette had been fresh instead of canned. But overall a really nice space, very pleasant.
Waitress was sweet and attentive. Cashier was rude and hurried people. My biscuits and gravy were cold and not too tasty. My friend's food was amazing thou and she was happy with the gluten free bread
Food was okay, nothing to talk about. Service could have been much better. Meal was almost done before we got syrup for pancake.
Food was okay. Staff was incredible in the awful sense. I walked in by myself as I was meeting a friend. Two parties walked in AFTER me. The person seating did not acknowledge me and sat the 2 parties before me. Then she asked "did you want a table?" After being sat, no one came to ask if I wanted a drink for TWENTY MINUTES! They we're rude, not helpful, and didn't bother doing their jobs until I complained. If you want mediocre food and awful service, head on down to Historic Grounds.
Arrived at 12:30pm and closed. There was a sign outside that said “open” and web says it is open until 3pm. Several people came thinking it was open. Not even a sign on the door that said closed early. We drove 40 min. Very uncool.
Waitress was nice but the bacon and my grandsons and stepsons French toast was raw
