Lazy Lobster Whitstable Reviews
Had a really wonderful lunch here. The server was very nice and attentive. The food was fantastic and won’t hesitate to return when back in the area. The fried oysters were really really good. The tuna tartar was good as well as the fish sandwich. All in all a wonderful lunch with great service.
Booked a table here to surprise my partner and was not disappointed. Beautiful food - the oysters in strawberry were genuinely outstanding and the pork chop was delicious. Very reasonably priced for the quality of produce and cooking. Our waiter delivered a fantastic service throughout. The only thing I would say is portion sizes are a little more generous than you’d expect! 😅
All of the dishes here were delicious and well prepared. I will say there are a lot of flavours, multiple components. Some interesting combinations. It verges on too much. Like they don’t serve raw oysters with lemon and mignette. The classic. They have raw oysters with strawberry and hot sauce. They are different. Unique. Cool. So I decided I can get classic oysters anywhere. I appreciate they offer something unique here so that is definitely five stars!
The food is absolutely delicious and, if you’re a seafood lover like me, this restaurant is the perfect place to awaken your taste buds. We were advised to order around 5–6 dishes for two people, as the menu is mainly designed for sharing. We ordered about five dishes and it was more than enough. Unfortunately, we didn’t have room for dessert, but I will definitely try one next time. I can’t wait to come back and eat here again!
Visited this beautiful restaurant/pub in Whitstable on a Friday lunchtime after seeing recommendations online. There was one front of house staff member who looked like he could’ve used a helping hand but he was brilliant, taking orders and recommending dishes. The food was absolutely phenomenal, would highly recommend everything that we ate. Seafood platter was extremely fresh and the side dishes were creative and delicious. If you’re in the area please go visit here!
We had an amazing lunch here yesterday. The food was beautiful full of flavour and the presentation was perfect. I would go as far as saying possibly the best seafood restaurant I’ve eaten in. The service was great very attentive, although the poor man could have done with an extra pair of hands, but this did not affect the overall experience. I will definitely be back and recommending to all my friends.
Really cosy and relaxed atmosphere, and the food was absolutely delicious. Incredible gorgonzola croquettes, Scottish scallops with burnt oil and hake. Really love the fact it is also a pub, so you can choose any drink from the bar while you have dinner. Dog friendly sitting and very friendly and kind staff. Vegetarian friendly.
Lazy Lobster is an absolute gem! The staff, especially Luke, are incredibly friendly and helpful, making the whole experience even more enjoyable. The seafood platter is a standout—fresh, generous, and with the added bonus of a full lobster, it’s a seafood lover’s dream. The grilled sourdough bread is delightfully yummy, and the lamb chop is cooked to perfection. Everything feels fresh and thoughtfully prepared. On top of that, the vibe of the place is relaxed and welcoming, making it a great spot to enjoy a delicious meal. Highly recommend!
Wow what an incredible place. Staff welcoming, atmosphere lovely and cosy, and the food was the best we have had in the UK. All dishes fab, but the scallops, tiger prawns and lobster were incredibly special. Can’t wait to return!
Wow, two of the best experiences in one visit. It might seem simple but the frites are perfection, took me back to family holidays as a child in France but the Tiger Prawns featured in a masala (and almond?) sauce on the evening of our visit, not as described on the online menu - this sauce was out of this world, possibly one of the best sauces I’ll ever eat anything in - well done chef! If I was hanging out awards, one would be on its way for this alone. Service also great, really nice atmosphere, a truly memorable dining experience! Thank you
On a quiet Monday afternoon myself and my partner had a lovely lunch including their fried oysters, Scottish scallops, monkfish tail in vegetables, grilled prawns and the most incredible crown prince squash fritti with truffle honey & parmesan & hispi cabbage (best I've had). All accompanied by some cool art work on display and a decent but small wine list. Service was attentive without being intrusive and not rushed. It was a delightful way to spend a late summer afternoon.
Quite probably the best meal I ate whilst in Whitstable, yes it was also the most expensive by some margin but the standard is absolutely heads and shoulders above the other places we ate which were marginally cheaper. The oysters were outstanding, a shame they were £4 a pop as I would have happily had a dozen of them. The other dish of excellence is the tuna tartare which is absolutely phenomenal. The lobster was pleasant but I think I would have preferred a buttery base opposed to the masala base. All in all, just great - thank you.
Went on Saturday afternoon and had an excellent lunch - probably the best fish and seafood I have had in the UK. Adding cockles to the brill and the pangratotti on top of the scallops was genus. Superb and incredibly varied wine list and great service.
Absolute gem of a seafood eatery in Whitstable. We had a wonderful lunch here. The service was fantastic, the food was fresh and delicious, and the atmosphere was chill. Definitely will come here again!
Cute corner restaurant and bar. Great seafood and selection of dishes. We tried the scallop, skate, tuna tartare, Parmesan truffle fries and fried potatoes with anchovies. Everything comes with a flavourful twist. The green curry sauce with the scallops was interesting and complimentary. Highly recommend the tuna tartare, spicy and unctuous. Well presented and great service.
We had a fantastic lunch at Lazy Lobster in Whitstable! The food was absolutely outstanding – the whole lobster was perfectly cooked and full of flavour, the potato fries were crispy and delicious, and the steamed mussels were truly second to none. The service was just as impressive. Although I made a wrong booking for the next day, the gentleman who served us was exceptional – warm, attentive, and genuinely welcoming, which made the experience even more enjoyable. An unforgettable lunch and a real gem in Whitstable. We’ll definitely be back and highly recommend Lazy Lobster to anyone looking for great seafood and outstanding service.
Excellent meal. I just asked my co diners and we couldn't fault it. Other than over ordering that is - which was on us. The scallops and mussels were a delight and the lobster was delicious (if a bit unusual). The fish buns are little fish burgers and very good and I lost the bet as thought it was going to be like a fish cake! We did not need the truffle fries but who can resist them? I got the feeling they might have been understaffed but the food was out quick, and was hot. Our servers were lovely and clearly working hard and we tipped accordingly. Probably the best place for seafood in Whitstable. Recommended.
Best meal we had all weekend! Lovely traditional pub with friendly service. Food was amazing, it was fresh, tasty and a bit different. Highly recommend this place
Arrived for a late lunch on a Saturday afternoon, we were welcome by Luke who was so kind to accommodate us and ensuring that the kitchen would still be open. The food was absolutely delicious, one of the best meal we have ever had. The flavours were well balanced and different. Luke was a wonderful host and we will definitely be back. A massive thank you to the whole team who fed 2 very hungry Italian ladies!
We enjoyed a delicious and well priced Sunday lunch at Lazy Lobster. Food was top notch, and the staff were all delightful. The fried oysters were my favourite, followed closely by the gorgonzola croquettes and prawns. No service charge added, so the tip is well earned!
We’ve tried all of Whitstable’s top restaurants and this place is far ahead of the pack! Incredible food, small plates packed with flavour on a menu that changes pretty regularly, attentive and friendly service (we asked about dairy free and they annotated a menu for us and made suggestions etc), and lovely decor. We particularly loved the corn ribs, prawns and tuna. Loved it so much we went back twice in one week… Cannot recommend this place enough!
We had an excellent experience at the Lazy Lobster. They were fully booked but we were able to sit at the bar for drinks and a limited bar snack menu which included raw and fried oysters. The dishes were beautifully presented. It is a lovely restaurant with wonderful ambience. The menu looks superb so definitely book if you’re thinking of going. Dog friendly too which is a bonus!
Amazing food! The staff were very friendly and courteous. They explained the menu and service was first class. The lobster noodle was our favourite dish but everything we tried was incredible. Very reasonable prices for the quality of food. We parked in Keams yard.
Called in for a 6 pm savoury something. Had deep fried oyster in panko, smoked haddock arancini and scallop dish. All delicious. All tables taken so sat at terrace so missed the atmosphere but sounded good. I ate the scallop dish before I thought to take a photo
Christmas Eve tasting menu, what can I say... Amazing, perfect the culinary high of Christmas. Especially when accompanied by the wine tasting menu.. 8 different dishes, paired with 8 different glasses of "wine." I know this was the first time the Lazy Lobster had done a tasting menu and a brave thing to roll out on Christmas Eve. But they smashed it, the kitchen staff cooked ever dish to perfection, and the waiting staffs knowledge of the wines was incredible. Our highlight of Christmas. I better just add that this restaurant has started to become one of the main contenders in Whitstable, due to quality food, including small plates, a really good Sunday roast, a relaxed atmosphere, with knowledgeable friendly staff. Photos below are from the tasting menu, I missed 1 out, the scallops 🙄
Visited on a Sunday evening. Good atmosphere, lovely service and great food. We had cheese croquettes (delicious), scallops (good), tuna tartare (excellent) prawns in curry sauce (excellent, wanted to lick the plate, truffle chips (huge ) and stone bass (very good). The stone bass was more like a proper main course, the others were smaller. Waiter happy to advise as to how many dishes as some are larger than others. Lovely evening. There was a sign saying they were dog friendly too, which we didn't realise otherwise we would have brought ours along.
This is probably the best place to have seafood in Whistable currently. Ambience was great, service was exceptional (Grace was wonderful), food was beautifully cooked and presented. We shared fried oysters, scallops, anchovies, hake, lobster, truffle frites, hispi cabbage and a bottle of red, everything was delicious. We’ll certanly go back again!
We visited The Lazy Lobster during a short holiday in the area. It was the best seafood meal we've ever experienced - everything from the food to the service was exceptional. We ordered about 7 different small plates and we loved everything, the scallops and the tiger prawns were probably our favourites. The tuna crudo was so fresh and even the non seafood plates such as the deep fried pickles and the bread were delicious. The servers were super friendly and attentive. We loved it and will definitely be visiting again when we are next in the area.
We decided to come to Whitstable for the day from London to have lunch and enjoy the local seafood and we found this lovely new restaurant. We ordered oysters, croquettes, prawns, sardines and half lobster. Food was delicious and we loved every dish we ordered. The staff were friendly and efficient, and the restaurant had lovely setting and atmosphere. Thank you to team at Lazy Lobster for being the very highlight of our day trip to Whitstable. We look forward to coming back very soon.
Not my first visit. Today’s experience I was on my own and LL is a comfortable place as a group or solo. The chef/chefs have clearly sourced product, not just popped to bookers or the local supermarket. The plates are labelled sharing but a nice portion. I had two, courgettes frittes and lamb chops, perfect for me Great house Valpolicello (Excuse any spelling errors I had two large glasse) Lovely and accommodating staff, was close to the door so heard them look after everyone that came to the door in a welcoming way. Thank you Mark
Very nice Aperol Spritz, got so carried away with Aperols when we finally decided to get something to eat they stopped service 😅. However the food did look really nice. Will definitely have to try next time.
We’re happy we got a chance to come here for dinner early in the week and really enjoyed the evening. Food and service were both great. Nice selection of english wine and other nice drinks. I’ll be coming back for a try of the bits we didn’t order!
Great food - tasty and imaginative! Both mains (brill and pork with plum) were really good and we also enjoyed the starters and sides. Only minor point is the food is a bit heavy on the butter. The service is friendly and fast - definitely above average. Recommended, will visit again!
Exceptional food in a delightful spot in Whitstable. Amazing welcome and service from Nick the bar manager. Highly recommend but make sure you book as this is surely going to be deservingly popular!
Truly amazing experience!!! Harriet was very helpful and charming and our host was sweet enough to help us book the table in the last minute (make sure you call and check when their kitchen is closed it was 9pm for us). Food was delicious!! Had oysters, scallops, sardines, sourdough bread, prawns, and miso custard. Nothing disappointed us!!
A delightful place offering high-quality, fresh dishes! This spot is perfect for savoring delicious tapas-style plates; notably the tataki tuna and fiery prawns, exquisite! An exceptional dining experience.
We had lunch here on Friday. The service was outstanding. The waiter was so lovey and helpful despite working alone and managing a busy service he kept a smile on his face. What a professional. Our food was absolutely delicious and was served beautifully. Only comment was the price of bread and butter, £5 per slice is a bit steep even for Whitstable standards. We would definitely return. Such a lovely place
Absolutely fantastic. We were able to grab a last minute spot at the bar, the service was friendly and accommodating, the atmosphere both busy and relaxing, and the food was Michelin level. We had the sourdough, burrata, tuna tartare, king prawns, and hipsi cabbage. Every single dish was perfectly cooked, packed with flavour, and looked amazing. A wonderful experience and meal.
The Prince Albert has been transformed! I used to come here for a pint and a game of darts and was intrigued when it was taken over by new management. I came here with my best friend on a Saturday afternoon to have some ‘nibbles’ because we were going to have dinner later. So, a great welcome from the bar staff and then a young man, who I presume was in control of the kitchen came and explained the menu. We chose four croquettes and some chips with truffle oil and Parmesan. Oh my gosh… It was divine. The croquettes were almost air like. The chips were lovely. Our time at the Lazy Lobster was just beautiful. Thank you.
We were in Whitstable for my girlfriend's birthday and thought we would book a table for lunch. So glad we did. Fantastic food, creatively done but all meshed together well as a sharing menu. Definitely had some of the best seafood I've had. Good wine on offer too, the bottle of Kent chardonnay was lovely, especially as a white wine sceptic. The only drawback, a justifiable one, was that there seemed to only be one member of waiting staff on shift - which given it was a Friday afternoon in January, I totally understood. There's no point having two members of staff on for an empty restaurant - and gladly it was far from empty! However it did mean we had to wait a bit occasionally to order. Would definitely return regardless.
I visited Lazy Lobster Tuesday and had an amazing experience. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, and the food was outstanding. Grace provided exceptional service, helping us choose the perfect wine and dishes with great knowledge and friendliness. A special thanks to the chef, who personally assisted us in selecting a delicious dessert, making the experience even more memorable. Highly recommend both the restaurant and the incredible team for their attention to detail and hospitality!
Even though they didn't have oysters readily available, they eventually managed to find for us after sometime. Then they even reduced our bill to reflect this inconvenience. Apart from this, the seafood was of highest quality, decently priced and the service was exceptional. And of course, amazingly decorated restaurant with welcoming vibes. Thank you so much!
Some of the best food in whitstable. Fun, lively pub atmosphere. The food was generally very good - our favourites were the scallops, deep fried oysters and mussels. We were really disappointed the lobster XO noodles weren’t on the menu anymore as all the reviews said it was the best dish 💔 It also definitely is on the more expensive side than other places in the area. In terms of the menu originality and creativity the prices seem fair as it’s the best you’ll get in Whitstable - however some dishes for instance the half lobster you really don’t get much for your money - similarly £4 per oyster adds up pretty fast when you want a few each. Our bill came to roughly £70 each with just one glass of wine (we did definitely over order on food though 😂)
Came here for a midweek lunch during a day trip to Whitstable, based on the reviews. It has a high rating for a reason! The food was absolutely delicious and, although it might not be the cheapest, it felt very reasonably priced given the quality. Highlights for us were: sourdough bread with butter (soo tasty!), fresh oysters, scallops (not pictured) and mussels. We also had the prawns, skate wing, fried oysters, croquettes, anchovies (not pictured) and frites (not pictured) - all of which were also very good. The servers were very friendly, although it was all a touch slow - there were two waitresses covering the restaurant and bar and I think a reduced number of staff in the kitchen, but we didn’t mind the leisurely pace too much as we weren’t in a particular hurry.
Very nice lunch, great food, service and atmosphere. Deep fried oysters were delicious and the courgette fritti with truffle honey very moreish! Will be back !
Great little restaurant at the back of a bar, not very big. Service is friendly, interesting menu, a lot to share.
Overall nice. Came with kids and got few lobster dishes. It’s lazy lobster! The lobsters were nice, garlic prawns were great - ordered extra portion, oysters were nice too. Arancini were really great with bisque. The noodles were not great. The service was fab! Even though we arrived at 1 and the place seemed to have run out of lobsters, the lovely waitress found some more and we felt like she really heard us and looked after us.
We came to try this place out as locals who usually just go to our regular places. It’s a lovely atmosphere inside for a drink, although fairly loud. Lots of people eating so would like to see what it is like after the kitchen closes. Staff were super friendly and polite, and conversed while serving drinks. The decor is lovely. The toilets were ok although it didn’t make sense having a wash basin in the men’s cubical but no way to dry hands unless you leave the cubical.
Was very disappointed today, the seafood platter looked amazing but unfortunately a majority of the seafood was tasteless . My husband enjoyed the oysters but other then that the seafood had no flavor at all. I eat shell on prawns all the time as I love them, this is the first time I have ever had them with zero taste at all, we were very disappointed. It looked like it was going to be amazing but we both agreed it was very very disappointing
Thoroughly disappointed... We came in summer last year and loved everything so we booked a table for my birthday. We asked for a specific table and were promised it would be reserved for us, it wasn't. My party and I felt rushed to order our food, even though it took 20 minutes to get seated. Food was ok, nothing to rave about. Our waitress seemed more interested in flirting with her boyfriend at the bar rather than serving us. Such a shame as we had a great experience last time!
