So we ordered the escargot paired with bone marrow, short rib bolognese, Burrata meze plate and the trumpet mushrooms. The food presentation was great, flavor was good but not knock your socks off. Now the ambiance and decor was stunning! Beautiful environment, with a friendly and professional staff.
Had a wonderful anniversary dinner at Le Cavalier! The service from Brittany was excellent—very attentive and welcoming. We both loved our main courses: the Roasted Chicken was perfectly savory with a delicious Marsala brown butter jus, and the Swordfish was fantastic. We also appreciated the baby-friendly touches like the soft Warm Madeleines. The historic setting of the Hotel Du Pont makes it a truly special atmosphere. Highly recommend for a celebratory night out!
Had delicious brunch: avocado toast with poached eggs. They also serve a high quality tea! Great place with great gatsby era vibe.
Classy art nouveau atmosphere with delicious large portion brunch options. Would recommend: carrot salad, lox on toast, pancakes, and omelette.
Le Cavalier is hands down the best dining experience I’ve ever had. From the warm, attentive staff to the music and atmosphere, everything was flawless. We started with fromage & saucisson, followed by a steak au poivre cooked to absolute perfection and a chicken cotelette that was just as impressive. The presentation, the service, the vibe—it all came together like a masterpiece. If you want a night you’ll never forget, this is the place.
A really beautiful historical restaurant that's over 100 years old. French cuisine was available, though this morning's menu was not the same brunch menu as listed online, maybe we needed to special request brunch instead of lunch? Service was absolutely amazing. Our server listened to my love of sweeter coffee and took it upon herself to serve my cappuccino with extra sugar cubes as an assisted service. The food was delightful. We weren't too adventurous into the French cuisine since it was early morning still, but my onion soup was a delightful balance of all the ingredients. It was packed with flavor without feeling overall too salty like so many onion soups lean. The haricots verts were buttery and very well seasoned, and my husband's green salad that came with his omelette had a lovely light and well seasoned dressing perfect for a morning meal. The building is gorgeous even when it shows some wear from age like the du pont itself, with so much sculpted detail and a beautiful bar area.
Great food. Excellent service. Incredible brunch.
Came for a winter Sunday midday dessert with my family, and it was cozy and sweet. The desserts and coffee were all delicious. The space is unmatched. The historical interior is something that cannot be replicated. You must go simply to be in a space that will inspire and delight.
Very nice experience! We came here during the Christmas Eve afternoon. An iconic hotel and this restaurant as a part of it. A very rich history of this hotel, which was built in 1913, a lot of celebraties were here. I've heard that Grace Kelly was proposed in this hotel. The food was great, service as well (Jacky), and the guy at the front desk (Jack) left a very nice impression. Music was not loud, clean space, superb restrooms. There is a beutiful atmosphere and ambient at Le Cavalier. We will come back!
Le Cavalier is located in the heart of downtown Wilmington in the lobby of the Hotel Du Pont. The bar & restaurant decor is ravishing, one of the best I’ve ever seen. I stopped in for some hors d’oeuvres and ordered the provencal hummus, and fromage & saucisson (cheese board) both were excellent. I would also recommend the onion soup, the cheese had the perfect texture and all around very flavorful. Bartender was skilled and very friendly.
Really enjoyed Brunch at Le Cavalier, There is some good varieties of dishes to choose from I got steak and eggs my wife had the egg wrap. Dishes are pretty loaded but not to the point where you can’t finish, of course I finished my wife’s potatoes 😉. Staff was friendly and very accommodating they were short but were handling brunch like champs good job guys! We loved and enjoyed the calmness of this restaurant and it’s sooo clean ++++. Finished off with a cappuccino and a latte and let me say the coffee was amazing. BARISTA APPROVED 😉. Will be visiting again would love to try out their diner menu. Definitely a good place to meet up with friends and enjoy great food and good vibes.
The whole experience was great. Our waitress was amazing. If you ever have the chance to go there, make sure that your waitress is Tee and the drinks manger is Robert. They made our experience here amazing. The food was good, my only complaint would be that the ceviche wasn't as good as ceviche that I have had in Colombia. But that's a minor complaint compared to how amazing everything else was. The atmosphere was a reminder of my times in Europe.
We enjoyed a impromptu Saturday brunch here today. All 6 of us enjoyed our appetizers and meals. Service was phenomenal and the drinks were delicious. Molly our server, was very good. Lovely ambiance in this beautiful hotel. No complaints at all.
Delightful surprise brunch from my daughter at Le Cav. We started with a refreshing, yet subtly decadent Chambord Mimosa, recommended by our server Laura. We were impressed with the prompt arrival of our appetizers, Foie Gras on a succulent French Toast profiterole and mouth-pleasing deviled eggs with radicchio. Our mains were Rabbit Ragout Pasta which was a hearty plate and the extra large Crabcake with Green Goddess over lentils. The only slightly disappointing aspect was our dessert. We shared an order of Madeleines which the menu described as being topped with candied pecans. It arrived with raw walnuts. For those with slight tree nut allergies, candied pecans are heated, which minimizes the allergens of pecans. The raw walnuts were a poor substitute. We simply removed them. The lobby and front cocktail bars were lovely and reminiscent of earlier times. The architecture, interior design, and attention to details were not lost on us. It was not crowded at all and Laura made sure we were completely satisfied. I truly look forward to visiting again soon.
I absolutely love this restaurant. The service is amazing and the food is really really good. It’s such a perfect place for a date because of how pretty the place is. We don’t have to reserve a table too long in advance which is nice. You HAVE TO get the chicken, its cooked perfectly with very nice mash potatoes. Overall, it was an awesome experience.
Impeccable dining room -- feels like stepping into the past. Nice wine list, classic French menu choices. The service was friendly. My server was slammed with needy people requiring their bills be split umpteen ways in time for the symphony or something. And she handled it well. The French onion soup was rich and the broth was classic. I have never in my life complained about too much cheese but this was ... A LOT of cheese. The Branzino was very crispy and the accompanying vegetables were well prepared. The shrimp was all a bit high on the salt. Would definitely go back. For the quality of the food, the prices were right on. I found cocktail prices high.
Go here now. We went for Easter brunch and it was tasty, decadent, and beautiful. The dining room is majestic, and the food is excellent. Everyone at our table, loved their meals. I had shrimp cocktail, the skate wing, and the sorbet. everything was top quality and executed very well.
Steps you back intoo the decadence of an era long gone by. The Green Room is lavishly furnished and upholstered. The menu is relatively simple but very well executed. Steaks are prepared precisely to order and use high quality cuts of meat. Not highly recommended of there's anyone vegetarian or vegan in your group due to a limited serif options, but the kitchen should be able to accommodate most reasonable requests. Great for a fancy date night, big occasions and business dinners.
Wow such a great dinner experience. The ambiance and historic room is so beautiful. The branzino was fantastic. Staff was all super friendly and able to accommodate a change in our party at the last minute. The wine and cocktail list is extensive. Would definitely recommend for a nice evening out!
Always an amazing experience at the Green Room at Hotel DuPont. Great wine selection, wonderfully creative food and excellent service. Live piano music provides an additional touch of elegance. This is a special place for special occasions. The room is breathtaking! It’s a must visit spot when you are in Wilmington.
Wow! I hosted my best friend’s bridal shower here today and it was AMAZING!!!! The staff was so kind and the ambiance was perfection! Food was delicious, drinks were yummy, vibes were impeccable! At the end of our brunch the staff gave the future bride a cute card with best wishes written in…SO AWESOME!!!!! Definitely will be coming back! It’s also BEAUTIFUL
The service and food was an absolute 10/10. Our server was so nice and attentive. The food was absolutely amazing. Every single bite of the beet salad, French onion soup, le cav breakfast, and crab cake salad was to die for. We will definitely be back soon!
Beautiful renovation of the old outdated Green Room. Food, service and atmosphere were great. We had the French onion soup, Parker house rolls, lobster, swordfish and dessert and loved every dish. Also went back for brunch the next day and the ham sandwich on a baguette was delicious.
Beautiful historic space with a great bar. Cocktails were worth it! The food was also quite nice. I really enjoyed the onion soup. It’s a great bar if you are in your own as well. Everyone was very lovely, including the team behind the bar. Definitely will be back next time I’m in Wilmington.
Elegance and delicious! The chef has creative ideas and they're willing to accommodate dietary (gluten free) requests! I hope the remodeling results in keeping much of the architectural aspects and definitely the staff!
The host was incredibly friendly and attentive after asking for more presence than the waiter alone. We really enjoyed the entire experience, from cocktails and appetizers (burrata and wedge salad were very well portioned for hungry people with taste) and the meals were particularly attentive to craft. Even the burger was just excellent and well worth the price. Given how much the staff care about your experience, we would certainly return swiftly
I arrived at the restaurant on December 1st in the evening, seeking a quick bite after my flight. I settled at the bar and was warmly greeted by Nick, the bartender. Nick was incredibly accommodating and helpful, providing me with a comprehensive menu. He also made me feel like I was right at home. I ordered the chicken entree, which was absolutely delicious! Nick crafted one of the best Old Fashioneds I’ve ever had. It was the perfect way to unwind after a long day of traveling.
Gorgeous décoration. Comfortable seating. Intimate atmosphere. Music is pleasant in the background. The food isn't true French, but is inspired and delicious. We had the plateau. We were missing our mussels, but did not bother to ask for a correction. The oysters were excellent. Lobster was nice. Shrimp were nice. Didn't care for the tartare. (Personal preference) I had the onion soup which was VERY tasty. Then I had the Elysian Fields Lamb Loin. The lamb was delicious, cooked true to temp, and tender. I didn't like the chickpeas as the flavor was too much of a contrast to the lamb for my taste. I also ordered local mushrooms but did not receive this side. The dessert was one of my favorites.. chocolate mousse. I meant to eat only a couple bites but nearly ate the whole thing. While my waitress was delightful in personality and graciousness, I was disappointed in missing a couple of items on the menu. She was enjoyable and I would come back to her section in the future. I'd recommend ensuring the server you have has your order down. I also ordered the filet in the morning. It was delicious. I was very happy to receive it rare. Potatoes were cooked to perfection: crispy outside, tender inside & full of savory flavor. The greenbeans were also very good. I'd return to this restaurant again.
Beautiful restaurant with amazing ambiance. The service was excellent. Our waiter was very nice and knowledgeable. The food was very good, as well. The only reason they didn't get 5 stars from me is because everything is overpriced. We spent a lot of money here, and if it weren't for the bread basket, we would have left a little bit hungry. It's a great place to go for a special occasion, but not for a regular date night dinner.
Everything was very impressive, but I would like to see more variety in the menu.
Beautiful iconic hotel and gorgeous dining room. Food good to very good not great. This is a French brasserie but they have some work to do. Mussels delish! French onion soup good not great. Poached lobster had strong tarragon flavor. You do not have to worry about forgetting that you are in Wilmington and not France. No seafood fork served with mussels. Pommes frites undercooked. Supposed to come in a cone and a silver holder. Wait staff very nice but unfamiliar with the menu. Lamb dish was good. $15 dollars to park for diners. Valet. We came hoping to have the duck Provencal and branzino shown on website menu but wasn't on current menu. Some pluses are that it is a lovely atmosphere not crowded and noisy like many trendy places on sat nights. I saw all age groups....not only the under 35 set. You can really relax and talk and you ate not sitting super close to others.
A beautiful space, we couldn't stop taking pictures! Delicious Tuna Nicoise, Crab Cake Sandwich, Fries and Pineapple Upside Down cake. The chef made our son a Grilled Cheese which he said was the best he'd ever had and my French 75 was also the best I've ever had. The service was very nice and attentive. Only negative was the steak in the Steak Frites dish, very lackluster flavor.
My hubby and I visited The Green Room for afternoon tea and boy was it an experience! It was $24 per person for "afternoon tea service" and that included a pot of tea each, an assortment of tea cookies (4 types, 1 small cookie each), dainty tea sandwiches (a curry chicken salad, an egg sandwich, and a classic cucumber and cream cheese on a caraway seed bread, one 2 inch square per person), and small delicious scones (one was a current scone, the other was an apricot, the spreads were some kind of cream spread, lemon curd, and strawberry jam). It was absolutely delicious, the service was a delight, and the atmosphere was amazing! Of course the only downside is what is included in the $24 price tag- a total of 4 tea cookies, 3 tiny tea sandwiches, 1 scone, 1 pot of tea. I have had tea service before and I suppose this is to be expected, but this was the only downside for me. I definitely recommend this with friends or for a special occasion!!!
I came a couple of time and every time it’s awesome.. the food it’s delicious, we had today French toast, French omelette and burger…..coffee all variants are exceptional, espresso, americano, capuchino as well as the mimosas….Any time that I came for brunch I tried a different option from the menu…. Up to now all are splendid!!! Highly recommend to try when you are in Willmington DE or passing by!!!
First review on my new page!!! Let’s Dish!! So I went to a fairly new restaurant with “French influenced menu” Le Cavalier in Wilmington, Delaware in the DuPont Hotel. The service was extremely good 👍🏾 from the phone call changing the time of my visit to my waitress, hostess and random servers who would also check in on you. You are greeted the moment you step in the hotel and restaurant. The food is good but not great. The scallops were cooked well, had a nice sear but not chewy! Not a huge fan of capers. The small potatoes were done nicely. The mussels were small but seasoned well enough. The bread grilled with it was delicious. The wine 🍷 ordered was smooth. Would I go back….maybe? The restaurant itself is beautiful 🤩
Took the family here for Father’s Day brunch. Lovely environment and enjoyed an overview of the hotel and restaurant’s rich history. There was some disorganization around our seating, which did not occur until 30 minutes after our reservation, but the atmosphere was so pleasant we did not mind. The food was good, but not anything special for the level of cuisine offered. I was disappointed that they were out of smoked salmon by the time we were seated.
Thanksgiving dinner 75.00 pp, ceaser salad warm it one bit of crispy romaine on the plate, ordered prime rib dinner spinach was cold not even luke warm. I had asked for creamed horseradish or horseradish,I was told Chef would not allow it , he only goes by the menu….. prime rib I ordered medium , it was medium but not even luke warm . I was most disappointed when receiving cold food and being told I could not have horseradish for my prime rib. The apple cake was dry . Most disappointed …. In the Hotel DuPont and their resources for chefs
Arrived with a reservation for a special occasion to an empty hostess stand. Ten minutes later a new group arrives, waltzes past both the hostess stand and our party of five and is immediately seated. This was followed by an insincere apology by the manager, who to be fair did appear overwhelmed. Service did not really improve. As for the food, the steak tartare was the reason we chose this restaurant. The portion was generous, though I would have much preferred an option for toast as a side instead of the fries. However it was overall unremarkable. At least two members of our group were disappointed in their portions, for the oatmeal and parfait. The parfait may have been more accurately described as a fruit cup. Despite the beautiful setting, I would likely not go back.
The ambience of the restaurant was amazing. It’s decadent and overwhelming but in a way that is beautiful. The issue was everything else. While friendly, the wait staff seemed preoccupied. While everyone else seemed to receive a bread basket while waiting to order, we didn’t receive one. The hummus was good but the burger was tasteless mushy and strange. The Caesar salad had soft squishy lettuce and way too much dressing that was very salty. The apps and burger completely turned me off from ordering more. Then our check wasn’t in a billfold it was just folded and handed to me. While not a big deal, for a place with these prices , it just seemed “unprofessional”. The food is not worth it but it’s nice enough for a drink and hummus.
My experience at Le Cavalier was underwhelming. Though this was not my first time dining at the Hotel Dupont, it was my first in this restaurant. I was expecting an epicurean delight but received shoestring fries reminicant of McDonalds, mashed potatoes that tasted instant though touted by the waitress as fresh and blanched green beans that took too much work to eat in house. The Branzino Rouille was okay but lacked flavor that would make it stand out. The macaroons were the saving grace for me as it took me back to when the food was more memorable.
If you're seeking a nostalgic dining experience with a touch of elegance for a special occasion, this restaurant might catch your attention. The establishment boasts a decor inspired by the glamour of the last century, transporting patrons to a bygone era. However, while the ambiance sets the stage for an unforgettable evening, the food fails to meet the same level of excellence. With high expectations, we were disappointed to find that the cuisine did not live up to its reputation. One dish that particularly fell short was the skirt steak, which unfortunately resembled a kids meal in terms of portion size. Although the service staff was friendly, their level of attentiveness did not match what one would expect from a higher-end restaurant. It left us longing for a more attentive and polished interaction throughout our visit. Additionally, it is important to note that the prices here do not align with the overall dining experience. Considering the underwhelming food quality and service, the cost was unjustifiably high. It left us feeling as though we had overpaid for the value received. In summary, if you are primarily seeking a unique atmosphere reminiscent of a past era for a special occasion, this restaurant may still be worth considering. However, be prepared for a somewhat disappointing culinary journey and be mindful of the hefty price tag attached.
The room looks really cool. So much potential as you are seated. The bloody Mary was great, then... food was mediocre at best and service was really sub par. Nice people but bad service and attention. Food arrival timing was really bad with many items missing for over 10 minutes - not just a side, but syrup for the waffles - come on y'all. Look at the hot sauce pic I added - gross - they have 2 of these in the restaurant (our waitress let us know this fun LeCavalier fact while she was chasing one down for us) - maybe next week they can clean them up before brunch. Bacon is great if you like it kinda raw. I really wanted this to be a great experience in Wilmington, but disappointed once again... Even when the food is just OK... if it were delivered with great service- it would make all the difference in the world. We'll wait for the next restaurant to move into this space.
The atmosphere was excellent, the decore, the old architecturel hotel, beautiful. The food, not much. The devil eggs were bland, the onion soup was extra salty and dark. I must of gotten what was left in the pot. The beef needed seasoning, the chops were good. I skipped dessert, i wasn't risking it. The waitress, T, was good. Won't be returning.....
Overall beautiful restaurant however the vibes of the staff is just disgusting. My party of 7 came here for a birthday dinner, my party was notably late and I appreciate the hostess seating me regardless while I waited for the rest of my party to arrive. We were informed they had a table right after ours and gave us a time that we needed to be done.. never have I ever been told what time my party needed to be done and gone by but I digress. While my party trickled in, every time I turned my head and met eyes with someone on staff there was constant staring, whispering. It wasn't even subtle, it was painfully obvious. The guy who I am assuming is the head manager or whatever made sure to stay close to our table. A group of young black women, oldest being 21 was literally watched and rushed the entire time. We weren't loud, weren't rude. Simply trying to enjoy dinner. To top things off, after paying and getting up from the table we proceeded to go into other parts of the atrium area, simply to take pictures for our one friend's BIRTHDAY. Even then, staff walked through the pictures, whispered, stared, attitudes etc. The manager dude and I even had what seemed like a stare off???? Extremely childish and feels extremely racist. No one else in the restaurant was treated this way. Food was mid, best thing was the fries. Overall do better ..
⭐ 1 out of 5 — A Beautiful Space With the Worst Meal I’ve Ever Had I want to start by shouting out Frank F., our server. Frank was truly exceptional — warm, attentive, and the absolute highlight of the evening. If this review were based on service alone, it would be five stars. Unfortunately, everything else about Le Cavalier (Wilmington, DE) fell painfully short. My husband and I were excited to dine here for a special celebration and intentionally chose this restaurant for its reputation and ambiance. In hindsight… we should have listened to the 4.2 Google reviews. The experience began with the shrimp appetizer. One of the shrimp tails was brown — an immediate red flag — and the overall dish was unappetizing and underwhelming. Then came my entrée: the short rib. And I say this with complete sincerity as someone who has eaten at many restaurants and absolutely loves food: this was the worst short rib I have ever had in my entire life. It tasted as if it had been boiled in plain water, completely untouched by seasoning, depth, or care. No flavor. No richness. No technique. Nothing. I genuinely could not believe a French restaurant would send this out of the kitchen. I found myself smiling through the meal out of sheer disbelief — mostly because we were already looking at a $200 bill for what became the most disappointing dining experience I’ve ever had. The final blow? I woke up at 4 a.m. with food poisoning. Hours after leaving the restaurant, the only thing I could think about was what I had eaten there. That alone speaks volumes. Le Cavalier is a gorgeous restaurant with stunning interiors, but great décor cannot hide poor execution. For the price point and the reputation, the food should not be this careless. I’m deeply disappointed and honestly hope the restaurant reevaluates its kitchen operations. The only redeeming part of the evening was our wonderful server, Frank. Beyond that… I cannot recommend this restaurant to anyone.
It was our second time in the restaurant, and again we end up disappointed. First time, it was the quality of our meal. This time, our meals were better, but still sub-par. (Tip to your chef: Don't serve steak PRE-sliced if it doesn't rest for 5-10 minutes. It gets cold and dries out. That's cooking 101). Neither my wife or I could finish our entrees, so we had the leftovers boxed up. Imagine the disappointment when we opened the leftovers the next day and instead of fries and half a cheeseburger, there's some sort of cubed beef with brown sauce and chopped vegetables??? How does a restaurant give a customer the WRONG leftovers?! $300+ on a mediocre dinner and we don't even get the right food boxed up. It's fair to say we won't be making a 3rd trip. The Green Room, while dated and in need of some CPR, at least had a high service level from beginning to end. At least the tartare and French Onion were decent.
Slow, unfriendly service and “meh” food. Because of its location and interior decoration, this should be a great quality restaurant, but the façade is just a façade. We will not be returning.
COMPLETE FAILURE! Growing up in Wilmington and spending a week in the Hotel upon relocating here as a child I always remembered the Hotel and the Green Room fondly. Now 70 and living in Florida I must say dining at the du Pont is something we'll never do again. Several years ago I took a few people and my 90 year old mother to Christmas Brunch which was an embarrassment...not just for me but the Hotel. The food was not Denny's quality and the service was absolutely abysmal. Even the mother/daughter at the next table could be overheard complaining about both features and eventually didn't mind sharing their thoughts about their experience. While the room is certainly gorgeous with views of Rodney Square the food is at best substandard (poorly prepared and bland). I've had much better at truck stops. The service??? Self-serve would have been preferred to the smug inept hacks they call servers...poorly trained if at all, not attentive and required us to seek them out or a manager to get even a coffee refill. Didn't leave a review then...wouldn't waste my time. CHRISTMAS DINNER 2025: I never thought it could get worse. Arrived a few minutes early and we're told that we had "assigned seats" like in grade school. We asked for perimeter seating and after some bristling from the hostess were granted a window seat which we appreciated. BTW...the place was only 70% full the entire time we were there...I guess the locals figured this place out and are staying away in droves. We then were told that ordering menu items in addition to the set "1 per of appetizer, main course and dessert was verbotten even though we told the server (dressed in jeans, white button down and tennis shoes) that we were happy to pay for additions. Finally he was at least able to split a Ceasar between us and instead of croutons the kitchen pulverizes them which gives the sense of eating a nice gritty sawdust with your greens...just delightful. Then, main menu items were out...no escargot and no steak...we were charged $400 for the two of us for 2 pieces of chicken, 2 cabernet's, 1 beer, 2 appetizers (the baked oysters were actually good) and 2 desserts which we skipped in favor of leaving early to get something better at the only Gas Station mini-market open at 8pm on Christmas. Oh yeah...our server was so inept he never once asked us for our initial drink order and then never asked if we wanted a second. He even collected empty wine glasses and never said a word...my wife had to ask him as a favor to get her second. Upon leaving we got the check and we're stunned to see a line item of "$177 Room Charge" which was odd since we were not staying at the Hotel! I questioned it and got a DMV-inspired answer so at that point in my maxed-out frustration we simply left rather than make our evening worse by spending more time having a manager waste more of it with additional excuses and likely more DMV-level treatment. Substandard food (forgot to mention we had to request bread/roll basket which was full of stale rolls which was finally replaced with fresher ones but no better than Walmart fare.), the duck was unchewable, abysmal service, all for the absurd price of $295 plus $108 for what our server explained was "probably mostly alcohol (two $18 glasses of wine and a $7 Dale's Pale Ale???). The room is very pretty so I can't call it a dump...it's just that a Christmas Dinner at a fine "French" restaurant (yes I did see someone eating french fries at the bar area so I guess it qualifies) at a world-famous landmark hotel should rise to a much higher level. I recommend the folks in Wilmington get to Florida to see what a $400 dinner experience should be. Le Cavalier is worse than getting a hot dog on the turn at the snack bar at Cavalier Country Club! You get what you pay for does not exist in Wilmington!
Absolutely disgusting. What a complete embarrassment for a restaurant attached to such a prestigious hotel. Le Cavalier is part of a luxury property with rooms costing up to $2,000 a night, yet the restaurant itself is shockingly neglected. The historic 1913 floors are filthy. I spilled a small amount of water and wiped it with a white napkin, after barely touching the floor, the napkin turned black. That alone says enough. The couches are visibly stained, the ceiling is dusty, and the entire space feels unkept and careless. This is not wear and tear; this is a lack of basic cleanliness. A restaurant of this caliber should be investing in frequent professional cleaning, not letting the space deteriorate like this. Our table was broken and uneven, with a crack running through it. When I placed my red wine glass near the center, it nearly tipped over because the surface was so unstable. These details are unacceptable in what is supposed to be a refined dining room. And the ambiance, completely ruined. Not only by the condition of the space, but by the music. Why am I hearing Billie Eilish, Steve Lacy, and “Boo’d Up” Naija like I’m in a club? Whoever curated this playlist should genuinely be embarrassed. This is a French brasserie, not a late-night lounge. Classical French music or anything that actually matches the elegance of the room would have been appropriate. The music alone destroyed any sense of sophistication. The uniforms were equally disappointing. Servers wearing blue jeans and Black running shoes made the experience feel cheap and casual, more diner than upscale restaurant. Even diners manage to look more put-together. For a place that claims to be formal, this was baffling. The food was good, which makes everything else even more frustrating. Le Cavalier *could* be stunning, but instead it feels neglected, careless, and completely out of sync with the image it tries to project. I came expecting elegance and left feeling appalled.
Beautiful place, no doubt — I guess that’s what the“environment fee” is for. But apparently the environment didn’t include bread basket for my table (every other table had it). Nice touch: asked if bottled water was ‘ok,’ never told about the free tap option, then charged $8. Service? Let’s just say I only existed once my server had circled the other tables a couple of times. If you enjoy paying premium prices to practice patience, this is your spot.
