Townhouse & Del Monte Speakeasy Windward Avenue Reviews
How can you NOT love Del Monte Speakeasy....it's location is super confusing because its located inside Townhouse. Townhouse is the bar area above while DMS is located down a stairway.... The first time I attempted to come here was on a Friday. They have live jazz music from 8pm-10pm no cover. No one told me that it was literally downstairs!!! 2nd time I came here, a bit more prepared after a bit of research was on a Wednesday. On Wednesday they have Underground Comedy for 9pm-11pm and again it's no cover and then at 11pm they have Red Light Wednesdays which is a free Burlesque show I came in a bit late for the comedy so had a few drinks with friends upstairs at Townhouse until the burlesque show started. Overall the drinks are sort of pricey but worth it. They are tasty indeed and will certainly put a spark in your pants (whatever that means). The burlesque show was awesome. The hostess was humorous and the dancers were tantalizingly seductive. Overall it's a great time! I would say it's a bit modern mixed with classic burlesque. The music was everything you could imagine dancing to and the dancers were skilled on and off the pole. It is free so I would recommend bringing some dollar bills for the ladies. Don't be a douche -_-. But you really can't go wrong here HIGHLY RECOMMEND.
Cool place and the staff was very nice. Good selection of bourbon
Lovely location - intimate, cozy, great acoustics: really enjoyed my concert
Coolest bar in Venice! The Del Monte Speakeasy is a must visit when in the area. I randomly ended up here and am very glad I stumbled up with gem. I wouldn't call it a hidden gem as it is pretty well known and has been around since 1915! The drinks are amazing, service is great, and they have live music. There was a DJ playing when I came here. So cool, cannot wait to come back.
I didn't get that many photos of the drinks because I was way too busy drinking. I love the atmosphere here and the drink menu is superb. We loved this place so much that we left and came back after getting some food. Diamond, the bartender upstairs was every bit of amazing. She exceeded my expectations as she was knowledgeable about all the spirits. She made my birthday very memorable.
We had an amazing time with Alex! He made out experience wonderful. We came in for drinks and he helped us try some great new liquors we hadn't tried before. He was so knowledgeable about the building and the history of the town. He was very friendly and made us feel right at home. We appreciate the time he took with us to make our night feel special. Thanks Alex!
Had such a great time! Alexis and Stephen were awesome. Dj was awesome!!!!
Cool Vibe , Great Atmosphere, Great Music Had the pleasure of meeting Amberlin 2.0
Best cocktails in Venice Beach
Great place to party on the weekdays. Check them out Weds and Thursdays. They have great djs and live bands
Fantastic bar, and George is a fantastic bartender! Were this place in my hometown, my liver would be in DECIDEDLY worse shape than it is now.
Very cool speakeasy downstairs right out by Venice Beach. Loved the ambiance
This place has been around for almost 100 years. You can catch some cool Jazz down there and the place if well worth a looksee.
Nice place for a drink with cool shows going on
Really wicked place to grab a drink and the history behind it really adds to the character! Check out a real "old-school" speak-easy.
Nonchalant Savant our together a Roll N Wyne night the other Sunday and now I'm looking forward to visiting this spot again for Roll N Wyne
Always a nice time! Great live music with The Katalyst Band.
I can't wait to go back! Salsa night, great drinks and entertainment!!
Great Live Music, Cocktails, and Dj's...few feet away from Venice Beach.
Great bar, went there for 2 nights in a row 🤩
Great drinks, fun ambience, great comedy in the downstairs room
Loved the vibe downstairs where there house music was playing. The vibe upstairs was much younger crowd and the co-ed bathroom was a little strange, but I still had a great time.
Amazing spot for cocktails. Staff was friendly, enthusiastic and knowledgeable. Vibes are great. Hope to be back soon :)
Love love love this place! The crowd, energy and music are top notch. You'll definitely dance the night away w/the great music played here.
The best speakeasy in the area! Diamond was incredible & makes a stiff drink! Highly recommend.
Some of the most well curated entertainment you'll ever want to see in a place dripping with history and pride. Bartenders that know. Make a night of it. Bring someone you dig. Turn your phones off. Thank me later.
Awesome 1920s style spot on bottom level of the Townhouse bar with live music and a fun crowd. Love the Bathtub Gin cocktail.
Nice atmosphere and some good electronic music in the basement. Nice place to go out with some friends and talk early in the night and it gets more crowded towards the end of the night so its a fun spot
One of my favorite places in Venice. Different music & dance floors upstairs and downstairs and both are dope. Highly recommend.
Best bourbon in town. A place with a lot of character and a vast history. Try a shot of Elihja Creig 12 and wash it with a glass of chipotle stout.
I had a couple drinks here early on a Monday afternoon. No one but bartender Natalia and myself. She was wonderful.
Townhouse / Del Monte Speakeasy is an excellent bar / live venue combination right next to Venice Beach pier. Upstairs you'll get to indulge in their booze creations, most notably their MOSCOW MULE with home made ginger beer, and their HOUSE GIN TONIC which comes out pretty strong. Like. Grab a seat on one of the sofas in the dark, intimate side room and keep it goin'. If you feel like dancing, downstairs the Del Monte Speakeasy is your place. Regular live music gigs or DJ's (it's getting hot in there!) are spinning the decks in this sexy underground venue. There are regular jazz concerts - grab a g&t upstairs and get comfortable.
Good and solid joint. Good drinks too. Went recently to see a friend perform. The vibe really is chill and it is what you make it. We had a good time. One suggestion, have lights on when patrons visit when the sun is out, then ruen rhem low once the evebr starts. It takes time for our eyes to adjust from bright sunlight to dark.
One of the few original bars that have survived Prohibition back in the 1920s and is still in existence today! Drinks are between $15-20 and are well made. Strong and smooth! They have a main area upstairs known as Townsend and later at night they open up the speakeasy downstairs. For the speakeasy, there was an entry fee of $10 and a guest DJ playing for the night. A good crowd and was pretty packed by 11 pm. Worth checking out if your in the area!
Fun drinks and cozy atmosphere, but also big. It doesn't necessarily feel like a speakeasy since it's so popular
Had a great night there. Bar on the main floor, dancing downstairs. Good cocktails!
Nice place, good bouncer...went on memorial wknd packed to the brim with people and were out of alot of drinks.
Cool, authentic vibe. Slow, inattentive service. Delicious cocktails.
Cool place to chill and drink! Pretty awesome and great music! Kinda gave off a College Vibe.
Cool atmosphere! Tallboy PBR $8... It got pretty crowded in here and the layout of the place made it awkward if you want to stand around and talk to friends. You'll most likely be in the way anywhere you are. I liked the old school vibe of the place, but was put off when we were rudely told to get out at last call. I understand the need to get people out at the right time, but I actually felt offended by the guy getting everyone out. I'll only go back if I'm in the area, won't go out of my way to go back.
Most of the time filled with unprofessional bartenders and wannabe LA transplants. Staff always seem to have an ego and act like you're bothering them. The drinks are also WAY too expensive for what they barely give you!
Bad staff, great vibes The bouncers called me and my friends “Ali’s” and said Ali’s gotta go!! The worst part was, they said to go drink outside in public w our beer which is a federal crime
Horrible treatment. Was having a drink here with a friend when our other friend came to join us. However he was not allowed in due to “dress code” because he had on sandals, despite the fact that we were also wearing sandals. The bouncers were I credibly rude, chose to humiliate him for his shoe choice and laughed in our faces. I will never come here because of this horrific behavior and treatment of customers.
This is a horrible venue for live music. I just went to a jazz show here and I literally couldn’t see any performer, and I’m 6’5” tall. The stage is probably not even a foot off the ground, so you can’t see beyond people who crowd in front. Without being able to see any of the musicians, it was like listening to a livestream in a crowded bar. It was very frustrating that I came to see a band but actually couldn’t see them from anywhere in the venue. They really need to reconfigure the space so that more people can see the musicians they come for, or simply limit the capacity. The place seems like a cool spot to just hang out and have drinks, but not it’s not a good space for live music. Avoid going here if you’re wanting to see a band in which you know will bring in a big crowd.
This place was packed and I usually appreciate that but not to the point you can't get a drink waiting in every line at the bar and then being told the security guy is new and you have to leave for wearing a very expensive hoodie I will try again tomorrow with a button up 🤔🤔
Worst cocktails ever!!!
Worst Bar I’ve ever been too Security guard charged me $75 and the person in front slid the security guard $20, didn’t show id and was let in for $50 for entry never seen such an expensive cover fee and disappointing to see different prices per person.
