I was simply looking for a good coffee shop while visiting St Albans on Business, when I spotted a lot of activity outside the venue, knowing if popular compared to other coffee shops I passed that weren't could only mean one thing...best coffee shop in Town. It was with very friendly and welcoming staff that served me with a top class 'Flat White' to drink in, then brought another ,this time take out which confirmed a quality run Business!! Full Mark's to the new owner, Anika and her professional supporting staff. Will be visiting again on my next visit. The Baldman of 'Baldman Services & Support Ltd'
Best coffee in town😋.The atmosphere was very warm and welcoming.Josie was very helpful and attentive. A big thank you to the team for always serving with a smile!
Great service and really welcome atmosphere! Staff are very attentive and are consistently tidying the space. Ideal spot for working remotely!
Black sheep stalbans the coffee was hot not like most and palatable with no after tast you get from a lot of coffee shops the staff were very welcoming and friendly If your in stalbans and fancy a coffee then I recommend trying the Black Sheep Coffee Bar.
Anika and her staff we exceptional coffee was excellent well prepared hot and not bitter like some coffees first time in and definitely my coffee shop to go to will be recommending to all the branches of Your Man With A Van in Herts
Me and my family love black sheep coffee, the coffee tastes amazing, especially the pistachio latte, and the matcha latte! Annika served us and she was so kind and great with children! She is an absolute asset to your company, thank you for the great personable experience!
Visited today for the first time and was pleasantly surprised. Myself and my partner ordered through the app, which resulted in us both receiving a reward. Our order was prepared in a timely manner and the pistachio latte was delicious! I then observed a staff member spend time with and assist an elderly gentleman with needs. The staff member, (Tazmin is his name I believe,) was so patient and even paid for the man's drinks as he was struggling to understand the process. It is gestures like this that we need to see more of in our community. Well done Black Sheep coffee for hiring such wonderful staff!
I have visited Black sheep coffee at St.Peters for a few times now and I felt the need to take a moment and appreciate the friendly staff there. I was really impressed by the service provided by barista named Infant. He was really calm and helped me understand what would the ideal coffee be for me twice now and I have loved my drink both times. (He suggested Strawberry Matcha and Iced Chocolate) I really appreciate his will to serve the customers genuinely and will continue to visit there just for the friendly staff and the calming ambience of the café. Good work!!
I LOVE the salted caramel oat latte at Black Sheep - deffo my favourite cafe in the area! The staff are friendly and the owner, Anika, is very approachable and makes a genuine effort with her customers!
Really good (and strong) coffee and really friendly staff, gets quite busy at peak times but a great place to go sit early in the morning or late afternoon. Staff always say hello and remember us from past visits, and encourage us to stay for as long as we want. My favourite coffee shop in town since it opened, much better than the other chains.
Had a great time at black sheep cafe! The cafe was really cute and cozy.Josie who served us was super friendly and made the experience even better. Really appreciated the great service—thank you!
Excellent service. Great atmosphere. I meet my mother in law here maybe 2 or 3 times a week. I want to particularly mention the staff who are consistently friendly and helpful. I witnessed particular kindness by the staff towards a partially sighted customer.
Excellent service and definitely worth visiting. I’m very particular about my coffee and this place was great. Lovely big space, very clean and I received great service from Anika. Loved the ordering screens too. Much better than Pret or Costa. I am definitely going to keep going back 😀
Very nice staff, and good drinks and a Nic environment for doing personal work.
The Coffee here is great.. the robusta blend is one of the strongest coffees I’ve had. The staff are lovely, there are nice, big tables for working on. The lighting is great here.
Very nice place! Good coffee
Lovely coffee shop, easy paying and ordering system. Staff are always friendly. Although when ordering through the QR code at the table I would take off the table number option as you still have to collect your drink at the counter.
The food is a little pricy on the other hand, the drinks are amazing and worth the price, but the atmosphere here is amazing unmatched carried by the amazing staff and great service efficient and fast the manager and staff welcomed me with a smile as I walked in I felt like I was in a friendly environment and the place was really clean and organised, honestly coming back every time I'm in the area without a doubt, they left a lasting impression and I'm happy to do my business calls in here from now on, one big thank you to all the staff that created such an amazing atmosphere, black sheep really do do things differently, what a name!
Staff are friendly and not at all rude, easy ordering service, not an issue they are cashless (lots of places are), nice to be able to choose size of drink, milk, own cup or not with ease, large area to sit in, great opening times! Love that you are able to pay forward hot drinks, dog friendly and collect points easily via the app
One of the best additions to St Albans! Lovely service through such attentive staff! Great food and coffee - would definitely recommend for your next coffee date!!
I don’t normally give reviews but this place really wow’d me. Firstly, the coffee and the pastries were some of the best I’ve had. At first I didn’t know what to order but a really nice worker helped me decide what I wanted. On top of that, the order was served to my table by the same barista, whose name was Tas, who truly made my experience even better by being extremely friendly and sociable. I will definitely return to this place and I thank Tas for such a great time.
Incredible experience at Black Sheep Coffee. Staff were brilliant and friendly and such a lovely clean place to grab a coffee! I definitely recommend 😊
Love coming here - great place to work and people watch and they love writing to do lists very differently #IYKYK keep up the great work
Great meeting place. But day i visited very busy. Friendly staff. Clean & tidy
Good place to enjoy a nice coffee. Fast service and very friendly staff ☺️
Best coffee shop in St Albans! The coffee is incredible, with plenty of delicious food options to choose from. The staff are friendly, welcoming, and always happy to help. I loved the self-order screens—very simple and easy to use. But if you prefer, you can still order at the till, and for extra convenience, you can even pre-order via the app. A fantastic spot whether you're grabbing a quick coffee on the go or sitting in to enjoy the great atmosphere!
Very friendly staff there and plenty of spaces to use the laptop and tab as the wi fi are really good and well equipment chargers to use mobile and computer for connecting with the internet. when cold weather they welcome me back in the coffee shop excellent place to closer to bus stops to catch the bus by less a minute from the coffee shop and the toilets in the coffee shop are very clean. They serve freshly roasted coffee daily Very accessible place for customers who need to be there to drink and enjoy.
Great coffee, food and service. Manager was very friendly, I loved the place.
Amazing coffee! Friendly staff, best coffee shop in St Albans! Thank you Anika for your great customer service, I’ll be back :)
This is my favourite place to come and revise - the atmosphere is amazing and everyone around you is mindful and also concentrated on their work. The food is amazing (especially the açai bowl and the matchas) and the workers are so lovely. I feel welcomed every time i come. I 💗 black sheep.
The coffee is of good quality and the staff is polite and friendly.
Nice coffee shop with plenty of work stations. I ordered a cappuccino and it's just perfect. The foam is solid not liquid and the coffee has a nice smooth flavor, not bitter at all. The prices are reasonable. They have meal deals, sandwich and a beverage for 5.99 pounds. Not bad. If you get a medium cappuccino, then it's just one more pound. They also sell their own coffee brand and the traditional morning pastries, croissants, etc. Great customer service. Cool place!
Having a great time at Black Sheep . Thanks Mayssa for that excellent service with a smile.
really nice vibes and great matcha! i had an iced oat blueberry matcha that was so good and a salmon bagel. served by alex who was so friendly and made the place more welcoming than just an average chain cafe
Really nice and friendly stuff Amazing coffee also
Josie is a fantastic staff member at Black Sheep Café! She’s always friendly, attentive, and ensures every customer feels welcomed and also the Café has a great atmosphere, delicious food, and excellent service. A perfect spot to relax and enjoy a meal!
Pity there’s only one category called “Food” because their edibles are mediocre but they do have the best coffees ever. Rare to find such strong coffee without the bitterness. Also enjoy their choice of good background music.
Good coffee, ambient atmosphere and lovely staff, perfect for studying !!
Lovely staff, really quick service exactly what you need on a Sunday morning. Thank you!
Amazing selection of pastries, easy ordering process and most importantly great coffee! The staff were friendly and helpful which made the experience even better. It was a lovely coffee shop and I’ll definitely be returning!

Friendly staff and really good coffee! ☕️ Mocha is my favorite! ☕️🍫
First visit, very good coffee and nice staffs I really enjoyed my time at Black Sheep Coffee I'd like to visit again
Black Sheep Coffee in St Albans is hands down my favorite coffee spot! The vibe is always welcoming, the staff are friendly and genuinely passionate about what they do, and the coffee is consistently excellent — bold, smooth, and full of flavor. Whether I’m grabbing a quick flat white or settling in with a book, it’s always a great experience. The space is clean, stylish, and has a relaxed atmosphere that makes you want to stay a while. Highly recommend for anyone who loves quality coffee and good energy! Much love George 😊
Lovely place to have a coffee as a regular customer I tend to come in most days also lovely staff very friendly and easy to talk to my favourite coffee shop .
One of my favourite coffee spots here in St Albans. The coffee is excellent, especially the Blue Volcano beans. The staff are always kind, quick, and just really nice people. In the morning hours, it's quiet and calm, perfect for reading or getting some work done. As for the food, I recommend the waffle with chocolate and strawberries. All in all, a great spot to have a coffee!
This is a great place to have a coffee and food. The staff are great and friendly. High recommended
I have to get it off my mind. It’s a flock of sheep, not a herd. Flock, flock!!!! Edit———— The self-ordering machine is too convoluted. It takes far too long just to order a cappuccino. Too many options and steps to complete just to order a coffee. It’s not convenient. It is a chore and I will not use it. ——————- Excellent coffee, probably on the more expensive side compared to other places in StAlbans. Could do with more seating. I haven’t tried the baked goods but will update once I try the croissants
Cozy and affordable place for meeting friends. Coffee is good quality and staff is polite and helpful
The staff is really friendly here and super quick service. Everything’s so clean and they make sure to check on tidings the tables regularly. Will definitely come back.
A nice air conditioned pit stop. Biker friendly with space for maybe four bikes out front without blocking the public path (on a Sunday at least, more space when the market isn't on) and still keeping them in sight of course. The coffee was quick, hot and you can order through the table QR code, screen at the end of the counter or thankfully, from a real person with a smile 😁 with a choice of bagels, waffles and pastries that they can bring to life with a description and recommendation. It's that modern almost Nordic feel. Not the new fake distressed features, but the kind you could probably kit yourself out with from IKEA if you were any good at design. Dark warm tones (like the coffee with the Volcano bean!) with a clean spacious feel. Probably not the cheapest but not the most expensive for St Alban's either Maybe a day in the sunshine at 22° matched to the aircon in the Black Sheep helped create a nice vibe, along with plenty of plug sockets to remove the phone anxiety (however irrational) but was a lovely visit. Thanks!
This is the first time that I have frequented Black Sheep Coffee, I've had lot's of positive feedback regarding the coffee and the ambience, and I must say, it's absolutely my favourite coffee house in St Albans! I had the "honey cardamom oat milk latte" and all I can say is WOW, divine, what a coffee, very smooth flavour, absolutely gorgeous. I'm a big fan of cardamom and oat milk, and with the honey, it was top tier! To eat, I went for a simple vegetarian sausage stone baked roll, simple but delicious. The main thing about this place, for me, is the energy, very chilled environment, clean, music is not to loud, and above all very friendly staff, I'm really impressed. If your passing through St Albans, or if you are a local looking for some unique, delicious and tasty coffee, then definitely give Black Sheep Coffee a try, I'm confident you will be delighted. Keep up the good work Black Sheep Coffee, I will be coming back 😊
I went with my friends, and we loved both the drinks and the breakfast menu, but the waffles were definitely the highlight! Also, the server Josie was very kind and made the day beautiful. Had a great time and would definitely recommend this place!
One of my favourite haunts for a coffee and a bite to eat. It's more spacious than the slightly cramped interiors of other coffee bars.
Black sheep coffee, a chain exceeding expectations and forcing other chains to do it better! They have an easy quick ordering service for those in a rush and also a line for those wanting a little chat. The baristas were wonderfully friendly and dog welcoming! They kindly offered a pup cup and lots of pets, my doggo loved it. It offers great coffee, I ordered a cortado, unfortunately I didn’t get a picture but not much to look at due to the love the baristas all gave my dog! Coffee was tasty, smooth, not burnt and quick. Everything people want. Can’t wait to sit in and enjoy the atmosphere and great seating. Would highly recommend!
I've been coming to black sheep cafe to study for my alevels for 3 weeks straight and I've been so productive thanks to the wonderful atmosphere. The staff are all so friendly and great to talk to as well when I need a break from revision. They're also very accommodating to my diet requirements, and the food is great! They also have vegan alternatives for people like me *I'm lactose intolerant 🫡😔🥲*. All in all a great place to study, meet other students and vibe 🤭✨️
Great coffee with plenty of choice. A little pricey for small orders.
Blueberry match here is freaking awesome. Must try . Staff are polite.
I decided to try the coffee and a Biscoff waffle on the recommendation of Infant Fernandes, the assistant manager, and it did not disappoint. The coffee was really good and really loved the biscoff waffle with crumbs.☕️
Best matcha in town. Bojana is so amazing always attentive to details. I’ve been a loyal Costa customer, but Black Sheep’s matcha and amazing staff win me over!

Quiet and peaceful. It will be my regular spot.

This is the best coffee shop ever!! The lady at the counter is lovely, always pleasant, cheerful and kind. Would definitely recommend to any other coffee lovers.
One of the best cafes. Excellent coffee and food. The atmosphere and aesthetic is really cozy and warm. The staff are really nice and friendly.
Really enjoyed my visit to Black Sheep Coffee, St Albans. The café has a nice vibe, and the team member (Bojana) who served me was polite, friendly, and made me feel welcome. I have chocolate mocha and it was really good Small things like that matter. Definitely a good spot.
Bojana is back, and so is the best matcha! 🍵You can truly feel the care and passion in every cup. Perfect balance, amazing quality, and such a friendly atmosphere. So happy to have her back highly recommend to all matcha lovers!

Opening day for this new outlet and on a street with a lot of coffee houses. Plenty of staff on hand, warm and friendly (I do appreciate a smile with my coffee). Service was fast although a little chaotic (to be expected on their first day). Unfortunately lacking any open day offers or even a free coffee (missed a trick imho). Self-service ordering is a bonus for me, and an app to go with it. Coffee was good, certainly on par with others and a bonus having a good old fashioned porcelain cup (no need to recycle what can be washed). Unfortunately the bacon roll was a bust, lacking in bacon and too fatty for my taste, and at double the price of Greggs over the road (sauce had to be requested separately). The lack of any surcharge to "sit in" is a real selling point and will help them establish themselves against the popular Pret a few doors down and give them a reasonable chance of staying the long term. Good luck BSC team, welcome to St Albans.
Often stop in for a quick coffee, nothing super special but dog friendly and now awful coffee.
Okay to grab a quick drink but it's not the best. Tables were a bit dirty and the toilets too. Drinks were good as always however which is a good thing. Also music was too loud which is a bit overstimulating.
This place has a really great atmosphere. Suitable for meeting with people, reading books and productive work.
First visit here. Nice coffee, easy ordering system, friendly service. Plenty of electric and sockets should you need them. Toilets were ok too! Only small issue we had was our discount QR code was not being accepted at the tablet, however we typed the code in manually and it worked. Also the music in store is a touch muffled. Overall a pleasant first encounter with Black Sheep Coffee. Well done.

We come to black sheep coffee regularly and love the atmosphere. Great selection of drinks, would recommend coming early to get a seat though as it gets busy!
Just a general observation that the coffees no longer taste the same at Black Sheep as they used to. Don't know the exact reason why - is it the beans that have changed or the Barista. Felt the same at Watford Black Sheep as well.
was trying to read about the Chinese century of humiliation and Nixons policies surrounding it but had a baby smashing its hands onto the table near us and being encouraged by the parents. CBD and Passionfruit lemonade cooler was nice tho.
Good: Nice coffe, nice environment. No so good: Staff not so polite. Tiny babycino (espresso cup) for £1.69! shocking! Had to order from a giant tablet, not great, would prefer to talk to a person to order.
Easily the best coffee in St Albans however the staff and cleanliness in this branch really let the brand down. Every time I've been in, regardless of the time of day/week, there have been empty cups and plates left throughout the branch and lots of food and crumbs on the floor. I've seen staff sweep once or twice but it's nothing more than a courtesy brush at the entrance and doesn't get rid of the stuck-on food that is all over the floor and tables. Service is generally quite slow and inconsistent; orders with multiple drinks are called out separately so you end up going back to counter many times. Surely just call the customer over once the entire order is ready for collection? And nearly every time, the barista has to call staff out from the office to serve, which just adds to the feeling of disorganisation. They're generally polite however I get the impression that none of them really want to be there and that's never a good feeling as a customer. A shame really as there is so much competition in St Albans for coffee and I was really looking forward to Black Sheep but the experience is really letting the brand down. I guess if you're ordering through one of the delivery partners then none of this matters but those 'dining' in should be aware.
nice coffee but staff seem to think they’re above cleaning the toilets, they’re always filthy
Coffee is really good and I was super excited that St Albans is getting a Black Sheep. The staff however are not very good. Every time I’ve been in there there’s so many empty cups on all the tables, the floor is dirty and the staff don’t seem to be able to just make a whole order before calling you over to collect it. For example I ordered a puppicino, two lattes and two brownies. I got called over three times, once to collect the puppicino, once for the latte and once for the brownies, but only after I reminded them that I ordered brownies. They also didn’t tell me which coffee was semi-skimmed and which was whole. Additionally the staff don’t seem to handle rushes well. They were constantly getting called back to make drinks, which seems strange since it’s a coffee shop. So it’s good but there is a lot of room for improvement here, it’s not like there isn’t any competition nearby.

Charging £4.09 for a coffee while loudly announcing “cha ching!” From the til every time there’s an order, feels like a perfect representation of this late stage capitalist dystopia we live in. All the while the coffee and food is average, you serve yourself and there’s three WFH warriors with their apple headphones and protein shakers pretending to do work. Weird experience.

Painfully slow service, matcha poured from a concentrate bottle rather than made fresh, doors left wide open to waste energy in summer and winter. Overpriced and poor quality. Loads of unhealthy, very high sugar options. Just another Starbucks-style chain, designed to make maximum wealth for a few investors, not offer any kind of reasonable service and quality.
Avoid in exam season. The staff are more concerned in looking after the kids with laptops taking up two seats, having one drink then sitting there for hours. Over 75% of the restaurant was occupied with students on laptops. Totally kills the atmosphere of a place when it feels like a library. Normally a nice place to visit for a nice coffee.
Was excited to try Black Sheep but was bitterly disappointed. Dirty tables, cups and plates everywhere. Staff were disorganised. They didn’t seem to realise that they were making drinks in dirty cups and using unwashed bottles for milk. There are many other lovely places in St.Albans ~ namely Silver Palette. I will not be returning to Black Sheep!!
Started off with real baristas, now one operator pushes a button and you get what the machine gives you. Lots of options, and some may be ok, but for a mainstream coffee you're better in one of the many nearby alternatives.
Coffee expensive but really nice. Very very disappointed with the hot snacks e.g. cheese toastie, bacon bap, tuna melt. Very expensive for something that is microwaved! I should have “followed the herd” and enjoyed nice hot snacks at Greggs!
The coffee was luke warm, the staff indifferent, the place was dirty, the toilet had more flies than a dunny in the Australian outback, overpriced. Yep definitely the black sheep of the coffee shops. As consumers we should demand better, you work hard for your money, flipping hard, don't give it to businesses that can't be bothered or don't value your custom. Vote with your feet, leave a review and get rubbish off the high street. And as for the lukewarm coffee, I did mention it and I was greeted with an "Oo!"
Blacksheep Café has undergone several changes and these have made it a less enjoyable place to visit: 1. Ordering is now done through a self-ordering kiosk, which unfortunately sets the tone for an inferior 'fast-food’ style experience. The lack of interaction with staff also detracts from the overall atmosphere. 2. The standard of coffee (priced at £4.40) is below average and with no latte art. The service too is underwhelming. 3. The interior decor is dark with bright lighting, creating an uncomfortable ambience. Overall, If Blacksheep Café wants to justify charging premium prices for their coffee they need to significantly improve the experience.
Didn't know that a flat white comes in one standard size & won't accept cash. Can't support businesses that will contribute to us becoming a cashless nation controlled by banks getting their interest. Avoid!
The customer service is absolutely disgraceful ... Waiting to be served, the staff is just talking and winding about, not even paying attention to the customer. Then waiting like 10 minutes for a cup of Americano, I would've drunk 3 cups for the time I waited for it to get prepared. The staff is quite arrogant. Also the counter where the staff prepares the coffee and other food is disgustingly dirty. This is just personal experience, but not good experience.
Worst hot chocolate I’ve ever tasted. No tast. No chocolate. Just watered chocolate flavour. Poor!!!!
By no ones definition a sip of no more than 30ml is a double espresso no matter how much staff want to argue about it. It's either 60ml or 80ml. So if I pay £2.85 then please give me a double espresso not a single one
We ordered the strawberry and cream waffles. It was awful. 2 of the 3 waffles were rock hard and over cooked. They were inedible. And the cream, well there wasn't any. Very disappointing especially for the price. I would not recommend ordering from here.
i enjoy the atmosphere here a lot, and the drinks are very good too, although they put way too much ice like they are running out of actual liquid. I get like 70 percent ice that fills up the whole cup and 30 percent actual liquid. 2 sips and my whole drink is gone which costs nearly 5 pounds.
An expanding chain but no idea why, frankly it's rubbish. Is it a fast food store? Have to order by app or screens, staff do not engage at all - no eye contact smile or anything, robots would be better. No skills exhibited in making drinks seems to be push button machine coffee. Comfortable seating taken by people working on laptops with one person on a circular table with 5 chairs but made sure no-one joined the table AVOID better coffee in every town at reasonable rather than extortionate prices.
Everything was wonderful until I stepped into a very dirty toilet, the walls are stained with urine, under the sink near the floor was so much dirt accumulated, the smell, the toilets you could see there were days since last cleaned. The toilets are ruining everything in this lovely place.
