Opiniones de Sobre Masa Albans
Amazing textures and flavours. Coconut cream desert and tuna tostada were sublime. Bib Gourmand rating well deserved!
Have been coming here since it first opened and the food never disappoints! The atmosphere is vibey and the drinks are delicious. The menu is well thought out , with an elevated take on classic Mexican dishes. My only gripe is I wish the menu was a bit more extensive to be able to try out new things when I visit next!
Ambiance is great and the staff are super kind and attentive. Portions are small but packed with flavor. The tune tostada was fresh and had a great combination of textures, and the flan was delectable. The gordita was tasty. Location wise, it is a little out of the way for me, but I would go again.
The food was very delicious but the service needs work, in my opinion. The biggest 'ick' for me was that the person responsible for garnishing drinks (with limes, etc.) that bartender just finished preparing was grabbing it all with bare hands instead of special tweezers. And that is right after touching menus and clearing dirty plates of tables.
First and foremost, the food was totally out of this world. It was creative, uses of chicken, liver pate on a tostada, it was innovative, pork shank with fall off the bone, fat and meat. Everything they’re doing is creative and culinary and delicious. The vibe was fun, funky fresh, and the service was great.
Overall rating: 4.6 Price: $61.38 per w/ tax & tip It’s very rare for me to see fancy Mexican. So I was very excited to try this place. I got a reservation around 7, but it definitely isn’t needed & a walk-in is easily attainable. The restaurant is absolutely beautiful and reminds me of my time in Mexico City. This is a weird statement, but I’m obsessed with the bathroom. It’s so welcoming and warm and it smells lovely. Really good job. I came with a new friend so when I saw bar seats available I immediately took them vs going for a table. While the restaurant is rich in culture, around the corner of the bar was what felt like storage or trash. Since it’s a fancier place, they should consider hiding that in a closet or in the back versus next to a bar. What got me here is watching a TikTok talk about how & how long they make their corn tortillas. So when I learned happy hour is until 7pm & it includes a free steak taco, I was very excited. Unfortunately it was hard and not good. I can do simple items when the seasoning is there. But it wasn’t. Extremely disappointing. Should add an avocado crema or something. We ended up only getting guacamole & the tuna tostado. The guacamole was big and a great portion. The tuna tostado was very tasty and a nice redemption. But I definitely want to come back & try other items before a fair review. Also just noting there was only one waiter and one bartender. The bartender additionally acted as a waiter and the waiter also acted as a hostess. It’s a big place, so was a bit surprised they didn’t have a 3rd person.
Sobre Masa has so much fun with their dishes that they all exceed what I could’ve expected. My favorite fish of night was the Tuna Tostada, which perfectly hits that nostalgic tastes of Chilli Cheese Fritos blended with amazing fresh tuna. Followed strongly by the Shrimp Cazuela, this was simply incredible. For mains, both the Barbacoa and the Carnitas are great options. I loved this spot and would easily return if close to the area.
Current residents of Bushwick should be overjoyed because Sobre Masa is yet another gem of an eatery in their neighborhood. My friend told me about this place over a year ago and he was raving about their amazing fish tacos. The memory of those fish tacos is what drove us to go check out Sobre Masa a few days ago. What we soon found out, was that the menu changes frequently and the fish tacos were no longer on it. This was only a slight bummer, because everything we did end up having was absolutely great! The highlights for me were their guacamole (and accompanying sauces), lamb belly barbacoa, and the passionfruit/carrot juice. The guacamole was the most seasoned and flavorful guac I've ever had. No cap, no exaggeration. Some may find it on the salty side but it never crossed that line for me. The tortilla chips were perfect and strong. They won't fold under pressure and break when you go for that scoop of green goodness. A little toum, green salsa, and either red or orange sauce for some spicy kick on that chip is the way to go. If the lamb belly is on the menu, it is a must try! Pro-tip: save some of the guac and sauced to have with your lamb belly tacos and get creative. The lamb belly is juicy, flavorful, and a perfect protein to go with their delicious tortillas. The passionfruit juice is the base agua fresca for one of their alcoholic cocktails. While it may be a little pricy to some for juice, it was so refreshing, perfectly sweet, and I enjoyed ever last drop. The restaurant just has a great vibe to it. Nice lighting, not loud or noisy, friendly staff, quick service. I was blown away and will absolutely be returning.
A Hidden Gem of Mexican Cuisine in Brooklyn! At first glance, you might be tempted to judge this restaurant by its exterior or the surrounding area – but don’t make that mistake! Once you step inside, you’re greeted by a warm and inviting interior. The décor is simple, yet filled with charming Mexican accents that set a promising tone for what’s to come. The staff here is exceptionally friendly and attentive, making you feel genuinely welcome. It’s not just about great service; it’s an experience that makes you feel like you’ve been taken to Mexico. The menu is thoughtfully curated – not overwhelming, but with enough variety to offer some truly unique dishes and creative combinations. Every dish I tried was absolutely delicious, and, without a doubt, among the best Mexican food I’ve ever had. And the best part? The prices are quite reasonable, especially considering the high quality of both, the food and service. In summary, even if you have to travel a bit to get here, and even if the area doesn’t initially seem appealing, the exceptional food, outstanding service, and fantastic drinks make it all worthwhile. A huge thank you to the chef and his team! This is a place you’ll want to return to, again and again. I wholeheartedly recommend Sobre Masa – give it a try, and I promise, it won’t be your last visit!
Stumbled across this place on a late Thursday night, but so glad I did. The food blew me away. Absolutely delicious, fresh, and authentic. The fluke ceviche was so good, the tacos went down easy, the seasoning on the shrimp was perfect, and the the steak was super tender and excellently cooked. Considering I'm not a huge fan of mole, the enchiladas were my least favorite, but still good enough to eat my half. If you really like mole, you'll love them. Bartender Lalo was great and easy to talk to. Will be coming back for sure.
Agreed with others. Service at these prices could be better. Brocolini mole was tasty, but olives were a strange choice? Really deep flavor from the almond mole. The lamb Barbacoa was phenomenal. Rich fatty, spiced lamb belly that just falls apart on an in house tortilla. Gosh, so tasty. Almost wished I didnt have to share it. I could demolish a single bowl myself, but could use a bit more pickles to cut the fat. The flan was a showstopper. I swear there is a fermented dairy product in there somewhere, but was told there wasnt. Crazy.
As a 🇲🇽 Living in NY it's always a treat to try mexican places! We went for brunch on sunday (mi husband ordered the barbacoa) and i ordered the chilaquiles! the chilaquiles were so good!!!!! he said the barbacoa was good too! as a little note: they don't have hot coffee ☕️ but they have cold brew! the chilaquiles were missing some beans but they were very tasty! good amount of 🌶️ nothing crazy but full of flavor!
The wait staff was lovely and we enjoyed the atmosphere, but sadly the food did not nearly live up to expectations. Portions were quite small considering the price, and even my carajillo, 2 ingredient drink, was not good. Other three cocktails we tried were ok. Wouldn’t go back unfortunately.
I was really excited to try this place, but overall I left feeling underwhelmed. The steak was delicious and cooked very well, and the proteins in general were prepared nicely. That said, the portions and overall experience did not justify the price point. One thing that stood out was the pricing of the menu. There was a mole dish with broccolini and no protein that was still priced quite high, despite not including any particularly expensive ingredients. Because of that, I ended up ordering the steak to make the meal feel more worthwhile, but even then, the prices felt difficult to justify and seem like they need to be reevaluated. The drinks were the least enjoyable part of the meal. They tasted watered down. We ordered a Paloma and a michelada, and when the bill came, I noticed the michelada was charged as two separate items , one for the beer and one for the michelada add-ons. Since a michelada is typically priced as a single drink, this was surprising and off-putting. We were also charged for a second round of salsa. While I understand charging extra in some cases, the refill portion was very small, which added to the overall feeling that the value didn’t match the cost.
Very mixed feelings. Food was not bad, the salsa flight and carnitas were far and beyond the highlights, and I would encourage anyone to order them. The ceviche and tuna tostada were decent, good quality and a fair price, but they wouldn’t blow your mind. The chocolate cremeaux and coconut pudding were good as well. The issue was with the service, specifically at the end. The bill was paid for not even two minutes and we had just finished signing the receipts before the waiter came around and told us to leave. We were there for less than 1.5 hours, caused no problems (no one made complaints to my knowledge and there we no comments about my party), and we get kicked out? I understand the restaurant is busy, but I would appreciate a few minutes to wrap up the night and leave myself. It’s a shame, the dining experience would have been good otherwise. Overall, based on the dining experience alone, I would not come back here. There are plenty of other restaurants with similar quality that would not leave a bad taste in my mouth.
We had the Carnitas, Guac with salsas and chips, Gordita, and the mole with broccolini, cocktails and beer. We felt the food was only OK. The flavors were good but not incredible, for the price point we expected better flavors and quality. Our favorite dish was the carnitas tacos, the tortillas were freshly made but were served lukewarm, and the carnitas were perfectly fatty and flavorful with the toppings. We were excited to try the fresh, home made chips but they were a bit stale, they may have been made earlier in the day or the day before. We were expecting piping hot out of the oven chips with a lot of crunch. The restaurant could work on perfecting their flavors and improving the serving quality (increase the food temperature). The experience was short of our expectations but again the food was not bad, but it was only OK. Ambiance was good. Service was incredible - kind and warm, and attentive to our needs.
