I went to this Ramen place and was blown away. The star of the show was definitely the Tonkotsu ramen. The broth was incredibly rich and tangy—exactly what I was craving. The noodles were cooked to absolute perfection. I’d give the ramen itself a 100/10; it’s some of the best I’ve ever had. Unfortunately, the sides didn't quite hit the same mark. I ordered the gyoza, and while they were fine, they fell apart a little too easily, which was a bummer. There wasn’t a unique or standout taste to them. I also tried the cucumber salad, which was just okay—not really my favorite. If you go, go for the ramen. Skip the extras and focus on that bowl of soup. It’s genuinely incredible. CASH ONLY - another downside

Warm and cozy soba dishes! I got a nameko oroshi dip soba, which I really enjoyed and highly recommend. The broth is made with these sticky mushrooms, so it’s thick and has a unique flavour. It also comes with a little candle thing to keep the dipping broth piping hot. The noodles themselves also had good texture. My friends all got the mera mera soba, which was very yummy as well. The space is not that large, so we went right at opening time to avoid a wait. Please note that this place is CASH ONLY!!

I recently checked out Cocoron on the Lower East Side, and it was one of those cozy, slightly hidden gems that feels especially satisfying on a chilly day. It’s a small Japanese soba noodle shop with a friendly, bustling vibe — the kind of place where the seating is close, the bar is lively, and the focus is very much on the food. The soba is clearly the star: handmade buckwheat noodles served either in rich, savory broths or with cold noodles and dipping sauce. One standout I tried was the Mera Mera Dip Soba — a warm, sesame-forward broth that felt hearty and comforting without being too heavy. Service was warm and welcoming, even in the small space, and the casual, slightly hole-in-the-wall atmosphere made it feel authentic rather than touristy. Be aware it’s cash-only, so come prepared or hit the ATM nearby. Overall, Cocoron is perfect for a casual lunch or early dinner when you want something flavorful, comforting, and a little off the beaten path in NYC.

Such a cute place! The food is incredible, especially the broth. It is so flavorful and rich without being too much. The noodle is the perfect texture. IT IS CASH ONLY!!! The people at the restaurant were so nice, and they didn’t make me feel bad for not knowing. They also have an ATM at the back. This is a wonderful nice place to go to feel cozy and warm in your heart and stomach.

The Warm Mera Mera Soba always hits the spot – rich and flavorful.

LOVE warm spicy dipping soba! I finally got the chance to experience the authentic way of eating soba. It’s so delicious and comforting! The chilled noodles plus the heating broth provide such a fresh flavor and the noodles stay fresh and tender towards the end of the meal because they are separated from the broth. The lotus roots chips are quite unique!

Very authentic and great service. Very popular, so you might have to put your name down in their waiting list, but usually the wait it’s not too long. It’s Cash Only, but they have an on-site ATM.

Cocoron is endearing with a hint of quirk. The food was excellent! We only tried two items (mera mera soba bowl, their signature dish, and the warm stamina soba). Both broths were intentionally crafted and enriching. The noodles were quite good. Our server was great, and one of the chefs introduced himself to us. We’d love to come back and try more items, but this place lives up to its reviews.

i love coming to this place when the weather starts getting chilly. the mera mera has noodles with the slightly creamy and nutty soup and are a match made in heaven. i have tried a few other items on their menu but always go back to the mera mera or dipping soba. was recommended the chicken meatballs and they were nice.

Such a lovely experience! I got the classic dip soba and LOVED it. The broth was so incredibly flavorful and warming, just what I needed on a chilly day. I recommend getting the large size noodles for just an extra dollar—definitely worth it and was a good ratio of noodle-to-broth. The noodles were perfectly bouncy and picked up the flavor of the broth beautifully. To be honest I had no idea if I was eating the noodles the technically ‘right’ way—the whole process of using the big spoon/bowl to assist in the dipping seemed so complicated—but I also had a lot of fun trying to figure it out, and it seemed to help me eat more slowly and enjoy the experience. The free tea the server brought us at the end of our meal was truly the cherry on top!!!

Honestly. Unreal. So delicious. The mera mera soba has a deep sesame flavor. Its creamy. But not too heavy. So fragrant. Delicious. I understand why the ‘mera mera dip’ is an option now. It probably keeps the noodles from overcooking while they’re in the broth. The soup version (not dip) was amazing, but I’d try the dip next time to make sure the soba doesn’t keep cooking and get soft. They have cold noodles / cold soba which looks amazing and refreshing. The prices are ok. ~$18-20 per meal. For the quality, I think it’s worth it. Nice place to seat solo or with a group. They have several bar/window seats, which makes it good for a solo eat. I will go back for sure. Cash only !!! No card/credit.

Cash only spot - their sukiyaki cold soba was good, great texture. The difference in size is only in the amount of noodles. Seaweed salad was interesting, worth trying.

Such a cute spot. Good for date or 4. On the smaller side. The soba is so good. I want more asap. I had the kemchi one tho I would deff try other things next time. Don’t need the duck app. But the fried chicken was of course amazing

Finally have dined here after probably walking by this place over 100x getting off the Bowery J. This soba noodle spot is truly a delicious restaurant and shouldn’t be overlooked! It has high reviews for a reason. The Mera Mera soup is their #1 seller so i obviously picked that dish. It was delicious. Flavorful, savory, a bit spic. Super good and highly recommended. The Japanese Sticky Yam appetizer was new for me. Never had anything like it before. Tangy, crunchy, wet. It was alright. Not my thing. Solid hijiki, nice and nutty. 2 soups, an appetizer and a small side, and bottle of sake after T&T was $100. Not that bad.

A woodsy little soba spot with simple & hearty food. The space is on the tiny side, so be prepared for a wait after you put your name down on the paper wait list. This is a cash only spot, though they've got an ATM in the back. The Stamina Soba is so comforting, with thinly sliced pork on top of an umami broth and a slight hint of yuzu. The only note is that the soba noodles could benefit from a bit more chew. The broth flavor is simple but very satisfying, perfect for a cold winter evening.

I finally crossed Cocoron off my list as I’ve been craving for warm noodles. As a soba-ya, their soba really stood out, especially their dip soba as it is served in a hot stone pot. I was blown away by how extensive their menu was, as they served a variety of soba, curry and appetizers. The vibes of the restaurant reminded us of some Japanese hole-in-the-wall ramen spots. Friendly service, cozy space, clean bathroom. Seats are limited but they have another location 3 minutes away. ****CASH ONLY. There is also an ATM at the back of the restaurant. *Mera Mera Dip Soba $18.5 (L) Their most popular soba. Served in a hot stone pot, they lit the pot with fire to keep your dipping sauce steaming hot. The mera mera broth was similar to dan dan broth—it was a spicy sesame broth with minced chicken, bok choy and scallion. It was rich, thick and flavorful. You enjoy the dip soba as if you’re having tsukemen. Every strand of soba fully absorbed the sauce when I dipped into it, while the soba remained bouncy. After I finished my noodles, they gave me some soup to add into the sauce. *Warm Mera Mera Soba $19 (L) Another signature mera mera soba but a soupy version. We found the soba soggier and overcooked as it was soaked in the broth. My friend also found the broth a little bit bland compared to the dipping sauce. FYI small = 130g, large = 180g of soba. The price difference is $1.

I've been here twice this week, and I really love their soup! Just a heads up - their online menu and things like Grubhub aren't quite accurate. The menu is a little different from what's actually available in the store. The soba is good, the soup is delicious, and the staff are so nice! I really like coming here, but it's always so busy. My favorite is their Mera Mera Soba. Highly recommend if you're vegan 🌱 for those options 👍😊.

Their garage is the best I've ever tried. The noodle was also really good I needed to eat everything! However, one of the staff told us to wait outside when we got there while there were plenty of seats inside. The other server came out and asked us why we were waiting outside. I think they need to communicate more effectively. But the food was good and I am going to visit again.

Ordered their signature mera mera noodle soup and it was the perfect meal on a cold winter evening. The soup base was surprisingly creamy without being heavy and the soba noodles were the perfect texture. It does get packed so go right at opening and it is cash only which is inconvenient.

1. The food is decent, I would only recommend the soba and nothing else. The Stamina Don is not a “Powerful Bowl Dish”or “Gut-Busting, it is bland and not spicy. 2. The portions and taste of the appetizer was not worth the money to try. 3. The service was excellent, they rearranged the seating for our large group in a small restaurant. 4. The atmosphere was nice and homey, on busy days it can become crowded.

Waited forty min in the cold on Saturday with very rushed service. The mera mera dip soba was better than the tom yum and duck soba (duck had weird gamey taste) but overall the broth lacked flavor and the noodles were just a fine texture. Overhyped.

I had a great experience here, they have a ton of vegan options and their curries are great. We both got a vegan curry, I recall regretting this and wishing I had ordered soba instead. The ambiance was great- lively and bustling and the service was fast and efficient.

Soba is nice, but also ordered their curry rice with came with exactly two pieces of undercooked potatoes, two pieces of overcooked carrots, and two random pieces of pork. Was not a good experience for the curry rice as it was a large yet the dish felt like mostly curry sauce and rice with improperly cooked ingredients.

I got the miso kara ramen.. it was not terrible. But I do not think it was worth waiting on line. There are so many other better ramen places to go to. We waited almost 20-30 minutes for our food too. It was not worth that wait. The broth was thick and salty. We didn’t even finish mixing in the spicy sauce fully cause it was salty. I am a soup person and I couldn’t even finish my soup. The server was also short and rude at times to the customers. He seem to be annoyed with everything. One of the server was nicer. So one star for that. Honestly I do not think this place is worth waiting in line for. The place was cozy vibe but the weather made it really cold. They are cash only. I do wish the bathroom was cleaner. Its not dirty but something about it does not feel clean to use comfortably.

Hesistated on writing this review, but, came here on Christmas Eve evening. I put my name down and waited outside because there was nowhere to stand inside and there was already a family infront of me. Then, this other family went inside and was about to get seated. When I walked back in, they already scribbled out my name even though nobody went to check outside if there was anyone waiting outside too. The waiter comes up to me and was like how many, so I told him 2. Then he was questioning me where they were and I responded that they are next door to the deli to get money as it was cash only place. It was as if the host(who was also the server) didnt believe me until they actually showed up as if he was surprised. Then when we eventually got seated with the menu nobody came for about 30mins. My partner noticed that same host/server was closing out people's tabs and assisting other tables. Didn't ask if we was ready to order or anything. So, we just left. And funnily enough, as we putting on our jackets the same server was behind us cleaning a table and didnt inquire why we were leaving or anything. Horrible service, may or may not have been discriminated against.
