Friendly staff who dont rush you even if they are busy. There are some cute booths to sit at and just unwind for a bit. Perfect during the summer. My shakes usually are about $10, so not bad at all for a sweet treat.
some of the best ice cream in nyc
Come in with an open mind and try not to get a brain freeze from eating the ice cream too fast cause all the flavors are really good. But keep in mind and an open one that all these flavors are not traditional and it’s kind of like they just mixed a bunch of things and it actually tastes good.
Listen no matter the options available, every single thing here is amazing! For the quality of ice cream the price is well worth it. On every visit, I add a pint to the order, so I can continue to enjoy their amazing ice cream for a few more days.Take the trip! You will not be disappointed 😃
Great flavor, super attentive service! 🍦👌🏽
Some of the best ice cream I've ever had! Ample servings, for sure. Love the large chunks in the peppermint pattie and PB Wins the Cup flavors. Really fun feel, flavor labels, and decor. Definitely coming back and recommending to friends!
🤤🤤🤤delicious rich ice cream. The ice cream is so rich and tasty. They have lots of great flavors! The ice cream is fresh and not overly sweet. It’s perfect! Great neighborhood spot!! Seating is a bit limited. It’s more of a pick and go kind of place.
As an ice cream place, they check off the boxes: rich texture, great flavor selection, good portions, standard prices. As more of a "Ben-n-Jerrys" than an exotic gourmet shop, they have fun combos that taste pretty incredible. Definitely will return when I'm around
The best Ample Hills I’ve ever been to! The people working there were so friendly. I’ll definitely be back!
Súper delicious ice creams, great flavors. I drive 45 minutes just to get here. I will definitely recommend it, it's a little hard to find parking around but its worth it. Also no be panic when you see a lot of people waitting, they are pretty fast in the service. Most try the coffe one. Delicious. Right in the corner this place makes a great place to. Visit, super easy to see from car. So you will not get lost. Great service
This is a great ice cream spot. really unique and inventive flavors. recommend it and cant wait to try out all the other flavors
Best place for ice cream! The customer service experience is excellent! The workers that were serving us today 7/30/2024 did a great job! They were very friendly, attentive, and made great suggestions. I will definitely come back. This will be my new place to come for dessert 🍨.
Awesome ice cream shop, they have plenty of funny flavors, mostly remakes of regular ones. We tried their mango sorbet and it is one of the best I ever had. From the color of it you can tell there is not much water in but mostly mango puree and it is amazing. Their strawberry ice cream is simple and also great, but if you like fruits go for the mango ! They have a few seats indoor, but lot a lot. Great place, will come back soon
Yummy and sweet!! Great spot for late cravings and nice seasonal flavors!!
Absolutely Devine. Their butter cake flavor blew my socks off.
Great ice cream and even better service to go with it! Egypt (the server not the country) was so kind and made the stop for ice cream even better! Thank you Egypt!
It's hard to beat this place for creamy and delicious and true ice cream. If there is a flavor that sounds good to you, then there is a very good chance it may be the best you've had of that flavor. I would highly recommend the neighborhood flavor where they pick a local restaurant and make it part of the many flavors to choose from. You at least have to ask for a small taste. I'm pretty sure you get 3 tastes before you get a dirty look. Ha! Jk about the dirty look, not the 3 tastings. Then again, you may get a dirty look from the person behind you who has been waiting 15 mins for his/her taste. It's not cheap, but it's worth it at least once..mmmm...maybe at least twice. As an aside, if you love ice cream, go to the store (some Fairways have it) and pick up some specialty and pricey ice cream called Graeter's. Save me a bite and thank me and Chris.
The line to get in was outside the store. I imagined it would taste good if people were willing to wait 20 plus min for icecream. It didn't disappoint. I tried 4 flavors , cotton candy, mango sorbet, vanilla with baklava and salted cracked caramel. Just writing this makes my mouth water again. Even though it was super busy the staff was pleasant. The atmosphere of an old hometown parlor. Some flavors were out of stock but understandable. The line was still long at 9.45 PM when we left.
I love Astoria and always claim it has it all, but the one thing it was really lacking was ice cream. Enter: Ample Hills. Holy smokes it’s good. I’m unfortunately lactose intolerant and had to opt for the coconut-based fudge ice cream (which was frankly just okay), but I sampled small tastes of other flavors which were amazing. The staff assured me more dairy-free options are on the way. Yay!
I'm not really an ice cream person unless it's exceptional and tastes homemade. Astoria doesn't have many places that sell good ice cream, but Ample Hills is an exception. It has delicious ice cream and fun flavors, and they let you taste samples. So far, all the flavors I've had or sampled have been excellent, though I'm partial to the coffee flavors and butter pecan. I do wish they had more sorbet flavors for those of us who prefer sorbet over ice cream. The only sorbet they have right now is mango. But still, if you're really into ice cream, this is the perfect place!
The vanilla ice cream with blackout cake and choc pudding was outstanding! Took first bite while crossing the road and stopped short in wonder and awe, then an oncoming bus honked his horn and got me going again. I like how each borough gets its own flavor… here in Greek Astoria, we get one with baklava from a local Greek patisserie 🇬🇷❤️ I also love how it’s all made in a factory in redhook… a New York institution! Very very delicious ☀️
Best banana pudding ice cream !!!
I really liked Ample Hills (Astoria location). Their ice-cream is very good, my fav flavour was cookies & cream, we also tried the summer of love and vanilla with gummy bears on top. We got pretzel cone for the 3 of them, i personslly didn’t like the contrast of flavours, the cone was too salty in my opinion. The place is super cool and the manager very nice! I went there for a vlog, video coming out soon on You Tube!
This is by far the best ice cream I’ve had so far. Now I see why there would be long lines during the summer for this place. This is a must try when your around the area and in the mood for great quality ice cream.
Most delicious icecream! They have a large selection of fun crazy name icecreams. Different flavor cones sundays, floats, milkshakes. Also theres a small kids play section in the back, super cute. Fun colored tables for eating in and since the weather is nice there where red chairs on the outside, perfect for a cool picture. My son had the vanilla kids cone with rainbow sprinkles and it was amazing. I highly recommend you try this place. There is no parking structure but who cares! Street parking can get tricky because its in a busy area but totally worth it!
Small Ice-cream shop, but massive flavors. An extensive menu and fun combinations of various Ice-cream flavors. Unfortunately for me there were only two certified gluten free flavors listed. However the taste was excellent. Real cream, real flavors. 😋
Ice cream was out of this world!! Room to sit. I heard the line sometimes can be outside and around the corner but I was lucky enough to make it there while it wasn't too packed! I had the ooey gooey cake ice cream and it was delicious I'd recommend it to anyone who likes butter cake, it forces a smile on the faces of those who fall victim to its familiar sweetness💯
It has been a while since my last purchase.. I love it so much but it’s actually so pricy so I can’t buy it that often :( … Today I was passing by randomly in 30th Ave and I saw balloons .. thought of checking out .. So they were having free scoops for the first 25 people for the ice cream day .. I felt sad that I missed that .. However, I was speaking to the gentleman Jorge & mentioned that I actually have an active account with points & if there are offers currently .. he was polite, listened attentively & surprised me with honoring the free scoop for the Ice cream day ❤️ I had a rough day before passing by .. and his act was really sweet & thoughtful .. He made my day 🙏🏻 I appreciate him & I hope he gets recognized with his great customer service !
I want to go back and try more ice cream flavors! This ice cream spot had such a cute concept and shop aesthetic. My favorite thing was ordering a flight, which was just a fancy way of saying, "let me put little tiny ice cream scoops and a cute egg carton". I recognize that that sounds like I'm being sarcastic, but I think it's the best freaking idea and I'm mad I didn't think of it. If you buy a flight and share it with a friend, firstly, it's a cheaper experience, secondly, you get to try out so many flavors, and thirdly why wouldn't you do this option? They had some unique looking flavors and being able to try multiple was a fantastic and filling experience. All in all, 10 out of 10, will be coming back, I might even go tomorrow.
This is what it’s all about. Inventive ice cream. High-quality ice cream. Ice cream served with kindness. I was thrilled to see that it had two different pumpkin offerings available on my visit. How many ice cream establishments can say that? Ample Hills is a New York classic, and it has survived incredible events. Long may it endure.
I was super excited to see Ample Hills reopen just before the summer ends. The variety in flavored ice cream is awesome — love the ice cream flight which is basically an ice cream sampler (especially if your an ice cream lover like myself who can’t make up his mind and wants a taste of more than two). If there’s ever a line (which there typically is) — it’s worth the wait.
I'm so glad this place opened back up. Best ice cream in the neighborhood. Ample Hills does ice cream with a variety of interesting mix-ins. If you're stopping here for the first time I'm going to recommend you go with a flight and split it with another person to try out six different flavors. Great place to swing by on date night.
Opens in Astoria Queens to lines and a signature location flavor, "Nectar of the Queens". Great ice cream with great prices to match. Currently $4.75 for kids, $5.35 for adult scoop. $7.50 large, $10.50 pints, $9.00 for prepacks pints. Ask for cones for your dish. Walt Whitman wrote "Brooklyn of Ample Hills." The namesake ice cream store is expanding again outside of Brooklyn to long lines. Happily they have done this so much that they didn't run out of the most popular flavors. Apparently different locations have exclusive flavors We enjoy many flavors but tonight opted for the butter pecan brittle, like butter pecan meets the brulee of creme brulee. It has that slight burnt or brulee taste. Excellent. AHC is a bit pricey for me but I don't dare give this less than 5 Stars, it is my daughter's favorite and she wouldn't forgive me. I never went to Ben & Jerry's original retail store but I imagine AHC to be similar but with NY & today's sensibilites. I think of AHC like I do Neapolitan or NY Neapolitan style pizza, They are fabulous artisan products but I prefer better value in my neighborhood. So go to Trader Joe's and buy the private label Double Rainbow ice or something cream or sorbet. High quality for a fraction of the price, add your own candy bars...
Delicious homemade ice cream shop with 20 flavors to choose from. You can't go wrong with the signature Ooey Gooey Butter Cake flavor. I also tried the Pistachio Squared which was amazing but might be a little too sweet for some people. I had to wait about 20 minutes on line but that's only because it was opening weekend. I'm sure it won't be as bad in the middle of the week.
Great ice cream parlor! They flavors here are amazing! The staff were super nice too and insisted that I taste the flavor before I buy. I had the 'Ooey Gooey Butter Cake' and the 'Salted Crack Caramel' and both were beyond amazing! Do it! Go get yourself a cone now! So yummy! 😋🍦🍨
Great ice cream with a nice selection of unusual flavours, my 3rd visit now. My only criticism is there's too much stuff in the ice cream, I had the coffee flavour with chunks of cookie in it, the ratio of cookie to ice cream was high, it was mostly cookie, maybe it's my European palate but less is more sometimes, I like some ice cream in my ice cream. Will definitely be back anyway to try the other varieties :-).
Been here twice. The ice cream is out of this world. Second time was a Friday night and it was super crowded and line took a while. The first time was daytime and the people working are super nice. They have patience with you trying all their unique flavors and when they give you different sizes they just have different sized scoops in the same size cones (of which there are a few different kinds.). I think the look inside is lackluster and not worth sticking around.
Based on all of the Ice Cream I have tasted in my lifetime, this is a solid 4.75, but just a little shy of a 5 star because of the NYC address. You will lose a little of the farm to counter during this process, but for the city, this is a great selection. So many different flavors to select from and your order will be fresh. I am going to try their Jersey City located next to compare.
This place is so hipster it hurts. Make no mistake, the ice cream is excellent and the flavor combinations are very creative. But at these prices you're really paying more for the brand than the actual product. On weekends there are literally lines out the door but this branch is new so that may just be the initial popularity. By all means give it a try. It's the perfect respite in the middle of a hot New York summer.
Ample Hills has the best ice cream in Astoria! The quality of their product is great, the texture is just perfect, creamy soft, and full of flavor. Their flavors are familiar yet creative, my favorites include the strawberries and cream, Morning in Paris, and butter pecan pie crumble. Their service is a little slow, mostly because they’re students, so they take their time. I wish they paid more attention to the facility, it’s starting to look old and untidy. One thing that I really like about them is that they’re open until very late everyday!
The place is nice and I was so excited by their vegan selections - only to be told that they only had one flavor, and of course it’s the sorbet. Any person who has to avoid dairy knows how difficult it is to find any ice cream that’s NOT just fruit sorbet. The mango was delicious but it’s so disappointing I didn’t be to try the other unique flavors. My family told me their dairy flavors were delicious though. We got a flight of 6 kiddie scoops for $9, which felt tiny but better than paying the $7-something for a small each. The service was also not great, the staff seemed to be ignoring us and taking everyone around us even though we were clearly trying to get their attention. There was no semblance of a line or organization. However once they attended us they were perfectly nice and let us try samples also. I would come again to see if they have their other vegan flavors back in stock but its’s just a little too pricey for a not amazing experience.
Creamy homemade ice cream. Several unique flavors to choose from this place will have your head spinning. There is usually a long line but it moves quick. I had the Mexican hot chocolate which was very good. Spicy ice cream that cools your mouth but leaves your tongue and throat tingling. I also had the pistachio flavor. It was not too sweet and had bits of brittle for a nice crunch.
Ample hills is one of my favorite ice cream shop in New York and I love most of flavors especially salted caramel, pistachio squared and sorbet mango! The only flavor I don't like is Mexican hot chocolate but my friend love that. I highly recommend to try the sampler with 6 flavors but share with your friends. My husband and I tried last time and it was so worthy to order with the price $12 but the portion is more than enough for two people and both of us ended up feeling too full. We suggest sampler should be shared by 3-4 people.
Best Icecream on the borough. A little pricey on the cakes but good deal on the brownie Sundaes
I just love this place. The ice cream is delicious. While you might spend a little bit of money here, it's worth it. When I come here, I leave with pints
Great ice cream store — reminds me of the one in my hometown with house made waffle cones. Wish they were playing some quiet music! A little disorganized to order/not clear where the line should start. Cute and clean store though. Tasty ice cream. Would love if there was a vanilla non-dairy option! Would recommend the store overall. More advertising on what is house made would also increase the appeal 😉
This is the cornerstone staple of ice cream with a lot of unique flavors. The best part are the creative designs for the flavor names. We ordered the cake batter flavor and oatmeal lace. Unfortunately the cake better flavor didn’t really taste like cake batter but maybe next time it will. There are so many other flavors, it is definitely worth a shot. Alsothe oatmeal lace has a strong Cinnamon taste, so go for it!
My favorite NYC ice cream chain - have their Nectar of the Queens flavour which is special to the Astoria branch - with bits of baklava and other exotic ingredients - you’ll love it. Even though I only (mostly) get chocolate flavors, I enjoyed this unique flavour! Also tried the orange and the caramel ice creams - the latter was better. Additionally also got the potato chips and M&Ms ice cream which was fun !
Interesting flavors, but not worth what theyre charging, especially for their portions
This is a fairly new ice cream, opened only a couple of months back. The service is good, the staff is friendly and funny. Sufficient quantities ffor the price. I personally did not love it much because I found the sundae to be too sweet to my liking. Some people may like it though. You should probably try once and decide for yourself.
$10 for one scoop of ice cream in a stale waffle cone is highway robbery, with a tip on top! (literally one scoop, not like some places where "1 scoop" is actually 2) The ice cream is decent though
The ice cream was amazing but unfortunately the service at that moment was terrible. There was no line but something was going on behind the counter, I don't know if it was a change of shift or something like that, but as customers we had to suffer for it. They also have a menu available but not all the options from it. So you have to see the counter after all and be rushed to make a decision. They didn't even give us a taste even when we asked for it.
Ice cream is DELICIOUS, especially the butter pecan. However, the service was not so impressive. It says on the menu that you can have two flavors for any size, so I ordered a small with two flavors on a cone. First the employee grabs a cup, and I have to correct him. Then he asks me to remind him the flavors (wasnt listening or attentive at all). I did and he asks “so two scoops.” I guess so?? I already said I wanted a small. Go to pay and he charged for a large. Was delicious but felt ripped off. Confusing and inattentive service.
I was happy that this place reopened but I feel like the service has gone downhill. The place smells weird, like a dirty dish rag mixed with a sweet vanilla waffle, it's very off-putting. I've also ordered ice cream to take home twice and on these two separate occasions I came home only to find out I was given the wrong flavor. Super disappointing :(
Holy cow, I know Ample Hills has changed ownership a few times but this newest iteration takes the cake. They got rid of the kids scoop pricing/sizing, but KEPT THE TINY CUPS for the size small. Over $8 for a single scoop of ice cream. They also had one staff member running the place. On a Saturday. In August. Don't get me wrong, the ice cream is decent, but Ample Hills has lost its soul in a bad way compared to 3 or so years ago.
Ice cream was decent, staff looked miserable and even upset I walked in. Do better.
• strawbooey ooey - as a self proclaimed strawberry ice cream connoisseur i would say this was eh. the fruity flavor was lacking. moreover, the buttercake was stale and overwhelming. • ooeyer and gooeyer - very very sweet. in all honesty, what did i expect? the description sounded a bit sweet but i decided to go for it per people‘s suggestions. the execution ended up saccharine. notes it was a forgettable dessert to the point i can’t even recall what my friend got (he didn’t like it). i will note that the housemade waffle cones were the saving grace. it was warm, crisp and delicious. overall, pretty disappointed as i had high expectations in regards to ample hill’s history.
Okay. Weird thing! We took ice cream and I had to use the washroom after a bit. I waited outside because it was occupied. I waited for about 15 minutes and the person inside didn’t come out. Then I gently knocked. They said it was occupied and stayed on for another 10 minutes. I was almost about to leave when the person inside came out. I stepped in and smelled weed. Turns out the person was a young female employee who was smoking up inside the bathroom. She got out of the bathroom and immediately went down the stairs into the storage area whose door says employees only. She had her uniform on as well. I was very surprised that customers had to wait for so long because employees needed a smoke break. Just give your employees a smoke break? It makes no sense to have them feel forced to do this and make other customers suffer while you also put up a sign saying people mustn’t smoke or vape inside. Just a very weird experience!
I've had better ice cream from Walmart and they charge you almost $10 for a single scoop
The smallest scoops I've ever got in an ice cream shop in NYC. I ordered medium and it was not even halfway full 🙃 8.17$ when i asked why she said call the company and complain. Customer service is very important.
Ordered a custom specific cake for two different occasions at different times. Messed it up ingredients on both times. I dunno who they hired but they need to get it together. We even put the order days ago for both.
