Opiniones de Hoffbrau Steaks Austin
Possibly one of the best steaks we've ever had! Simple, reasonably priced, authentic atmosphere, friendly staff. Salad was fresh and crisp with a simple and refreshingly zesty lime and garlic dressing. We went with the ribeye and tenderloin, both medium-rare, both tender, juicy, and so tasty. If you're not a fan of butter or garlic, or looking for a fancy place, then I'd recommend looking elsewhere. Absolutely delightful experience for us. 💖
Love this steakhouse. It is 110 times better that any other out there. The cook delivers a perfectly cooked steak every time. With every steak you get an awesome olive oil and lemon butter dressing salad, and wedge cut fresh potatoes cooked on the grill. The steaks are so juicy that you will want to sit a slice of bread in the juice an then eat it, YUM. I also like to order onion rings. They have a full bar so get your whiskey there too. I wanted to take more pictures but the food was just so good I wanted to enjoy every bite.
This. Place. Is. Amazing. We literally loved everything, and was the best steak we have ever had. We have eaten at MANY steakhouses. No frills, just delicious food. My margarita was tasty as well! Not to mention, you are greeted promptly by truly caring staff/owners. We will probably eat here once or twice a month from now on!
No frills. No nonsense. Just steak. Classic Austin steakhouse around for over 80 years and the steak is still voted one of the best in Austin. It comes with a small salad, some fried potato wedges and some bread. The steak was cooked perfectly (medium rare) and slathered with garlic butter that just uplifts the flavor. And a 16oz Ribeye for $32.95? I’m sold.
Still as good as I remember! So glad they're open! I got the ribeye and a bourbon+coke. Great meal!
Awesome place, the steaks are delicious just look at the pictures 🤤

We absolutely will be back great atmosphere and the owner was very friendly and gave some insite on the family and buisness.
Classic Austin at its best! Steaks cooked in butter and the best fried potatoes anywhere!
Best steak I have ever had need to go if in the area
Great atmosphere. Friendly people. History, charm and good steak.
The salad had a lovely garlic infused olive oil dressing, amazing fried potato wedges, and tender steak. Well worth the trip!
Okay I gotta be honest: I love this place. I know it's not the best steak, but god it's delicious every time I've eaten it. Greasy and lemony and delicious.
I have been eating these steaks since I was a fetus. There's a reason this place has been around for so long. Delicious food in a super cool, old Austin atmosphere.
Only Legends go to this place ! My grandpa went here to eat in the 50’s when he was the manager of the Coca-Cola plant when it was on 6th street ! You too ! become a real Austin Legend after your first steak here !!
Delicious tenderloin and appetizers... Everything was brought out super fresh and super hot. Great service, nice people, great atmosphere! Very reasonably priced. This place is a must!
Great steaks, great hospitality, great ambiance. It's a hole in the wall family owned restaurant with delicious juicy steak. And bottomless potato wedges!!!!!!
The best steak around! Grilled to perfection. Taste was unbelievable good!
Lived in Austin for many years and I always felt like I was eating at home, even if a CEO was sitting next to me. One of my all time favorites when I come back to Austin.
Went to the bar on a Friday night. Very laid back environment. Games (Jenga and over sized beer pong) is a plus.
This has been a treat place ever since I was a little child … just after WWII. AND … the cooking is divinely delicious.
The best thing about this restaurant aside from the huge slabs of delicious steaks are the courteous staff and amazing service!
Great Ole steak place I hope it never goes away like our other wonderful great restaurants that are closing because of high taxes
The best steaks we've been going there for more than 22 yesrs
Best flat top cooked steak anywhere. Wonderful salad.
Great friendly spot with good steaks. We really enjoyed it!
... hmmm? This is iconic Austin. I feel for the transplants. With all do respect, if you are new money, you will not understand. ~ Enjoy ...
I love how simple it is - pick a meat, then get salad potatoes and bread. Plus great stakes perfectly cooked.
Historic gem with a comfort feel! Simple menu of delicious steaks.
Great steak at a reasonable price. No frills, just good food.
Great steaks, I cannot wait until the remodel is completed.
Terrific steak. Wonderful history, of a family-owned establishment.
Austin's oldest family run restaurant. Amazing classic steakhouse.
The cook came over to me and said You want big steak. He was right and he delivered. Very Satisfied. A completely different kind of steak but I love variety and steak is my favorite thing. Good place to be alone and chow down. Buttery goodness.
Friendly, family owned steakhouse in the heart of Austin, Texas. Bad reviews are those who fear a great tasting steak in favor of a flavorless, low-fat high sugar/carb alternative. This is the way to cook a steak, good sear, good butter, good tradition. Had the opportunity to meet 2 generations of owners and they plan to keep the tradition. Keep up the good work.
This place has character! Steaks cooked to perfection, sweet waitresses, and the menu is less than a dozen items long. They know their stuff and they know it well. If you’re in the mood for one of the most flavorful steaks money can buy I’d highly recommend Hoffbrau
The best steak in town. They only have one chicken dish and 5 ish steaks. But the steak was amazing , price was great for the value. Meal includes bread ( sliced) , and a fried potatoe cut up into 3-4 pieces with your meat. The garlic butter/oil is great.
Everything was excellent! Food!! Staff! I asked specific questions that were answered in detail. Very nice staff! Amazing food! Simple menu made the whole meal about the steak! Loved it! Will absolutely be back and will bring people! I may sing it from the rooftops! There's a reason they've been around for over 85 years!!!
Best steak in Austin! Nothing had changed since I started going there 30 years ago. Frank, the griddle master makes one of the best steaks in the world. Mary, the owner, can tell you since amazing history, and Zachary at the bar next door, will make sure you get some great cocktails.
I can't believe this place doesn't have 5 stars! I have been coming here since I was 5 years old in the 80s. I don't live in Austin anymore but I always make it a point to stop at this amazing place. I dream of their food and I'm a vegetarian( for health reasons) but I always make an exception for this place. Best steaks in TX! The chicken is also a dream. It taste like sunshine in your mouth. People complain of the prices should go to a chain steakhouse and pay double. And what southern doesn't like anything covered in butter!! Bad reviews from people who probably complain about everything. The staff is so friendly and most of them have been working there for 30 plus years. And the bar they opened next store rocks too. It's not a bunch of kids acting like idiots there. Always have a good time!! Please help support this Austin treasure!!
We went with a group of six to eat at Hoffbrau Steak House. It was recommended by a local as we were visiting the JFK memorial. The local was right, Hoffbrau had good food and the prices were very reasonable. I had Catfish and it was tasty and there was plenty of food, so much that I had to take some home. A friend had ribs and got the full rack and it was huge. I recommending splitting that one. Market Street is a fun area of Dallas, so it's worth it to eat there just to be in the center of action.
This place is an absolute must go. Opened in the 30's and still had that same charm. Has added an outdoor patio/bar area, but the inside remains true to form. The steaks are amazing. Cooked perfectly with no nonsense sides.
Our family has been going to the Hoffbrau for years, and they have the best steaks in Texas!! Hands down.....if you go, order their tenderloin. It has the most flavor, and you can literally cut it with your fork!! They'll treat you like family, and you absolutely won't be disappointed!!
I love the atmosphere, the old fashion feeling. The steaks were delicious and I have yet to discover the dressing on the salad.. yummy. We will be returning for the experience and awesome steaks! 👍🏼👍🏼
Great steak. Unbelievable T Bone!
They have added tenderloin to the steak choices. The steaks are great. They offer wine and Wimberly pie. What more can you ask for! Great hometown feel. If you are from Austin you already know them, if you are new you should meet them.
Came here for the first time and our waitress let us know the place reopened in December 2021 after being closed since March 2020. The menu on the website is currently inaccurate - they only have a selection of steaks (ribeye, tenderloin, etc.) with a side of steak frites, a side salad, and bread. The steaks are delicious and wait staff awesome. This place is no frills, and if all you want is a solid steak and potatoes, this place is for you.
My hubby’s been going to Hoffrau since the 70’s. We try to go every time we visit Austin. Small, No frills - but delicious melt in your mouth steaks (floating in butter) served with potato wedges and a small “take-it or leave-it” salad that has a wonderful garlic/olive oil dressing and a slice of white bread to sop up the juices! Never disappointed.
Always love Austin's hometown Hoffbrau! Go check it out if you have not. I am a fan of the salad, take it or leave it! Not really a place for picky eaters but the buttery steak is delicious for everyone, right?!?!
My god that T-Bone was huge. Almost took up the whole platter. Actually had to double deck for the first time ever. Chop up the smaller side of the tbone and place those cuts on top... an inch plus up on top of the tbone, and then place the potato wedge in the garlic butter and steak juice sauce to marinate for a few minutes... hadn't been in around 3 years... WORTH IT...
A delicious low key steakhouse near a rapidly changing piece of downtown Austin. The steak is fresh, the old-fashions delicious, and the salad is the best secret of the meal.
I was in Austin for business and my coworker and I were pointed towards Hoffbrau for steaks. It was the first time either of us had been to Austin, so we relied on local recommendations. This place did not disappoint. The owner sat and had a lovely conversation with us and told us all about the history of the restaurant from prohibition to current times. The steak was absolutely delightful and the “love it or leave it” salad was very rich. By far one of the best tasting and cooked steaks I’ve ever had. If you like a small, cozy setting with some awesome steaks, hit this place up. You won’t be disappointed.
Great steaks in a vintage location. This restaurant has been open for 85 years with a stellar reputation for friendly service and value. They serve you family style and the menu is basic but hey if you're hungry do you care if they don't put a parsley sprig on your plate or lemon slice in your tea? I don't.
The rib eye was cooked to perfection. The simplicity of the salad is what makes it so amazing. The roasted potatoes were crisp on the outside yet still soft and moist on the inside, and when soaked in the lemon garlic butter sauce that the steak is topped with, they become absolutely divine. It's no wonder that they've remained open since 1932.
Holy Cow. Seriously!! Holy Cow!!! I think these steaks are holy. I LOVE his place. They can cook a steak. I love the atmosphere. So laid back and casual. The history of the place is amazing. This place has a lot of heart. Excellent service. The waitress,Amanda, was on top of everything. She is super nice and put my to go box together. This place has it all. Amazing food and service.
I had the luxury of eating there late 80's, early 90's, and this place was amazing, Huge sirloin steaks, great salad, and steak potatoes. I got to know the ladies there so well, they gave the recipe for the salad (not that difficult). I can now make this meal myself, it is actually my favorite meal, and takes me back there every time.

The Original Hofbrau has been on W 6th St since 1932, and the decor shows it. The menu is simple and the only choice is what meat you want, but it does allow for a two person operation. You will eat the “love it or leave it” salad will depend on how much you like garlic. Personally, we'd skip the potato wedges and pay extra for the order the onion rings The steaks are reasonably priced when you compare them to a high end steak restaurant. Our tenderloins are cut very thin. The menu says the bread is meant for soppin’. We get it when the meat arrives, because the steak is swimming in a butter sauce.

ROUGH! but... great steaks and beer. A little bit of real Texas in the middle of Austin weird.
Great service and classic Austin vibes. The food is very good but I wouldn't say it's five stars good
Simple steak and potatoes in lots of butter. Prices are cheap and the atmosphere is old school Austin.
No nonsense steak. The interior is a bit sad, but adds to the experience (in a good way). Service was extremely fast.
Great steaks but a little short on the sides but hey its a steak house.
Yummy steaks and a long standing part of the Austin culture. I love going here before a night out on West 6th.
Same as it ever was , Austin classic , best hospitality and consistent great steak !
It probably has to do with your personal history as to how you feel about the Hoffbrau. Our family ate steaks there in the late 40's and 50's. We loved the salads flavored strongly of olives. The steaks were not what you would get at a high-dollar steak house, but were what we could afford. The big Porterhouse was $1.29, if my memory serves. This is compared to Schultz's Garden $1.00 Filet night (Fridays.) Other smaller steaks were under $1.00. The food was generous enough to fill up a hungry kid - me - for sure. It was a treat to go there. About ten years ago, I was in Austin with my son and I took him there. The steak was full of gristle and I was disappointed. And, of course, the prices had gone up from my childhood. I still loved the salad. I hate to see places like this that were so wonderful in my childhood memories slide in quality such that they get the bad reviews seen posted more recently. I will go back and try it again though, just for old time's sake.
It was not the best steakhouse in austin, but the steak was good and it was not crazy expensive. It was very rich because they put the steak in butter. The menu is very limited. You have steak and potatoes. And you get a side salad. The only other option is onion rings as an appetizer. Ill be back
One of my favorite places to have steak. As I have told the owner on many occasions, there used to be a long wait out the door. You likely would be seated at a table with people you didn't know, but quickly became acquainted; part of the charm. HOWEVER, back then the steaks were THICK and juicy. The lines quickly disappeared once they started serving steaks no thicker than the sole of a shoe. GO BACK TO THE GOOD OLD DAYS......PLEASE!!
Love garlic, and now feel like I'll have garlic flavored breath for days! If you've gotta use few seasonings, this is the way to do it. Only bad thing is my steak came out medium well instead of medium. It was still juicy and tasty. Simple, but great
Even though I have lived in Austin for unholy number of years - I never knew this hole in the wall existed. I went there with couple of my dear friends and it was almost like I stepped in 1950s America. I like it that they kept it that way. The meat portions are enormous. I could only eat one third of my T bone steak. (rest I took home). The sauce with the steak is great. (Currently I am in a hospital in Netherlands going through heart procedures which is almost surreal) - I must say that I had much better quality meats in my life - but again I eat in European restaurants more than I eat in US restaurants. The place has a great history and I heard that at some point in 1960s all Texas congressmen and women use to go there (this includes Charlie Wilson and Barbara Jordan)
No frills small steak house with very friendly staff. All plates come with a salad that has a house olive oil dressing with olives and lettuce. It tastes great! The steak comes drenched in a butter sauce. You also get sliced bread, which is perfect to sop up the butter sauce. The steak also comes with fried potato wedges. It's not a light meal, but it's a good meal. You won't be disappointed!

Austin doesn't have any good steakhouse. PERIOD. We found this one online. Supposingly the oldest and the best one. They are open from late afternoon only which is odd. Venue is very outdated but we decided to give it a try. Menu is limited to choice of steak only. The rest potatoe wedges, bread and salad come with it. Garlic dressing was what we enjoyed the most. Place was very small and slow. We had no idea how the business survives with limited menu, short hours and no renovation. It was just OK experience.
The steak was a little stringy and bland. Perfectly cooked though. The star was the 'love it or leave it salad' with lashings of fresh garlic.

I thought the service was great, the waitress was very attentive. the steaks were fine, but definitely nothing special
Only been here once, so keep that in mind. Decent price but the steak was...eh.
It was okay. I wasn't horribly impressed but I guess it was good for the price. The steak was tough.. probably a combo of overcooking and quality. The potatoes were good. The salad had good flavor. Might give this place another try. Really wanted to love it.
Old school steak house that only does one thing but does it well. Your only choices are the cut and size of your meat. All steaks are served with fried potato wedges and salad. The place is BYOW (but not beer). Good place to go for a throwback meal with a buttery steak.
It was okay. I doubt I'll be back for supper. The steak wasn't the most tender steak I've had and lacked sufficient flavor to be memorable. They dump butter all over it, so it basically tasted like butter.
Definitely not your typical steakhouse. The steak was very flavorful. However, it was rather thin. You get served 6 fried potato wedges with you steak That's it. They have onion rings for sale, but they're not on the menu. Their "Love it or leave it" salad was nothing more than lettuce, a few green olive slices, and a couple of cherry tomatoes served on a small bread plate. What makes it unique and yummy is its healthy slathering of an oil based dressing. That's it though. No desert. No sides. Nothing. Hell, they don't even have menus! Jus a little table card with a few selections of different meats. Overall, it was a unique experience, but not worth the premium that you pay for it. The wife and I paid right at $75 for dinner. Not bad for a steakhouse, but we could've gone to Texas Roadhouse and had steaks just as flavorful with a much better selection of sides for much less.
Steak was great. There were 5 tables in the entire place when we visited. The meal is the same - you choose the meat and everything else is automatic. Iceberg lettuce salad with green olives and a garlic and oil dressing. White or wheat loaf bread and crackers, potato wedges. No choices in anything other than the cut of meat. Can't choose dressing, or side. Steak was cooked perfectly and delicious. Steaks come drenched in a butter and lemon sauce. Only 5 tables and the noise level is so very loud. No way to have a conversation. The building is super old so the noise level is probably due to the age of the building.

I know it's a histrionic place, but the food was over prices and the steak were over cooked, I won't be back
Fat city. Steak was fatty and they lost the whole thing in a pool of lemon butter. Great service and friendly staff. I' m just hoping I make it home without having a heart attack.
Service was good, salad was warm and was provided Nikki options regarding, including salad dressing which tasted like there was none. The food was good, but definitely not worth the price!
Steak was pretty good, but drowned in a puddle of grease and butter. Potato wedges not that great either as well as the salad. Not very impressive
I think u should have your own complete meal via the prices. And a dessert should follow as well.
This has been a family favorite for as long as I can remember. However this visit was the end for me. I went early on a Saturday night. Upon arriving I went to the restroom to wash my hands. The restroom is located in the adjacent bar and it was standing room only with sports fans. packed wall to wall. It took me 15 minutes to get through the lively crowd. Once I made it back to the tabel the salad was amazing as ever. Yet the steak was disappointing. It was not the high quality beef that they offered in the past. I had to apologize to my friends as I could tell they were not impressed. The service was adequate. I was given a bill and paid in cash and when I received my change it was not right. I asked the waitress for the receipt and sure enough when she brought the receipt she brought me the 20% that she had mistakenly held out. She said it was busy and it was her mistake. This has been my experience.
Got a burn steak. Ate it while AC kept dripping water to my face from the ceiling. Worst steak house experience. Thanks folks.
Worst customer service ever was in the place for ten minutes and couldn’t get the waitress to even acknowledge we were there when the place was dead. I nicely asked for a water and the old lady went on a bathroom break. I feel bad for the cook he was nice. With such a negative attitude I see this place coming to a quick end like Katz!
Terrible service .. slow staff .. old lettuce and the guy making the steaks would flip the steak with his hand then lick his hand .. then wipe on Apron we recorded in our phone . .. absolutely disgusting..
Thought it couldn't be as bad as my buddy suggested. It was. I really dont understand how this place is in business. I love garlic. Waaaay too much garlic. I like butter. My steak was in a standing pool of it. Horrible food at any price. Edit: it also seems like a lot of the 5 stars simply has to do with it being around a long time. My review was sans nostalgia. Your mileage may vary
I just don't see what the fuss is about. I cannot think of a steak place that doesn't do a better job. The salad is a greasy, dripping bunch of wilting iceberg lettuce, and the potatoes are thick, boring, dry wedges. The steaks are cooked on a grill, and served drowning in butter(?). They are utterly consistent, though. I ate there about 20 years ago, and was disappointed. I decided to be fair and give it one more try. Danged if, 20 years later, it wasn't exactly how I remembered it. Wish I could be more positive.
A group of woman were sat at the same group table as us. They clearly (like us) had never been there before and didn’t understand the unique way you call a server over (raising a flag). So after a while, with no one coming over - one of them raised their arms in the air to try to flag someone down so they could order - the security guard (white guy, about 6ft, short shorts) runs over and aggressively tells them that waiving their arms like that is the best way to get no service and continues to VERY aggressively tell them that trying to waive someone down is going to mean no one will help them. Never once mentioned the flag they needed to raise. This guy is acted incredibly unprofessionally to put it lightly, and if this was my business I would have a very serious conversation with him about what is and isn’t acceptable to say to customers at minimum.
This place may be a Austin historic institution but maybe they should try something else. The steak is thin, small chewy and drowning in a pool of butter. I didn't order some butter with a side a steak did I? The potato wedges were uninspired and the salad was limp with a weird tasting dressing. Will never go back.
Food was over priced, steaks covered in butter, and it wasn't good at all. I wish I could get my $40 back. The salad was disgusting due to so much oil and nasty olives as well. Never again.
