Qué dicen los clientes de PLATE by Dzintra
PLATE by Dzintra is praised for its beautiful ambiance, attentive service (Rosie, Marco, Ryan), and delicious food. Standout dishes include the halibut and scallops with risotto. Some found the service slow or prices high, and a few dishes mediocre for the price.

A wonderful place for dates, older-family dinners and business celebrations. Fantastic food. Great service. Live classy music. Love their drinks and the Tuna that they fly in fresh daily!
Plate is a place you go when you want more than excellent service and amazing food. It is a place where when you enter the red front doors, you escape from the chaos of the crazy world outside. It is where you put your phone down, lean back, and engage in wonderful conversations. Dzintra is always gracious. Go and enjoy...
I went to dinner with 6 other gals. Food was great, serviceby Ray was wonderful. The management went out of its way to accommodate us. I definitely will be going back.
The food is amazing every time -- creative and delicious. Cozy and intimate atmosphere. When we venture further afield into Austin for a gourmet meal out, I am usually underwhelmed and wishing we'd just gone to Plate. ;)
Rosie did an amazing job taking care of our large party and made everyone feel at home. The food and service were exceptional!
We've been talking about going here for two years since we moved here. We were waiting for an evening to try it out but in the end we found ourselves looking for lunch with our toddler and decided to give it a shot. The staff were so friendly and accommodating and the food was excellent. We will be coming back very soon.
They had the best onion rings to die for!!
Hidden gem in Bee Caves, ambience was amazing really beautiful and food was great. I had chicken marsala, sauce was so good.
This is a fine dining experience few might realize just how "fine". The decor made me think Palm Springs with it's color, velvet and crystal, but I understand it is from the creator's experience in Paris. I am from Alaska and have had fish as fresh as possible BUT the halibut tonight was such a jaw dropping pleasure, I had to send a review. The searing, the light sauce, the kiss of salt. The desserts were seasonal and our passion fruit creme brûlée was perfection with a candied lemon zest making it jump off the plate! Scallops could rival the best anywhere. If you have not been here and you appreciate excellence in cuisine, this is one of the best in our area!!!!
Good lunches at a reasonable price. Be careful however if you have a soy allergy. I had the Cuban sandwich, it was great but I believe the bread ingredients have a heavy portion of soy, it made me very ill for a few hours.
I had the raw ahi tuna gobbler with a great sauce garnished with diced pepper and fresh avocado. Everything tasted great. The dish is accompanied by an excellent glass of wine. This is followed by pittza which is made fresh material made in house. The sauce was too much and made the pizza very soggy. The restaurant replaced it with a much dryer pizza and that tasted much better. The service is great and the restaurant has very pleasant atmosphere and very relaxing environment.
Where do I start? We chose “Plate” for our 36 year wedding anniversary dinner last night. My wife was referred there by her hair stylist. Called ahead and the manager (Patrick) had a nice bottle of champagne chilling at the table with sliced strawberries waiting for us. Our server (Amy) was extremely knowledgeable about the menu and helped us through appetizers and the main course with memorable culinary delights. We had the Risotto and Scallops appetizer and the King Salmon and Short Rib for main courses. The service and the meal made our 36th wedding anniversary very special and we will certainly be back. Great atmosphere and a very well run operation. The Allen’s
Whatever person gave this restaurant less than a perfect mark....doesn't deserve to eat at Plate. I've NEVER had better mussels in my life - true story. Everything was cooked to perfection, drinks were wonderful, wine recommendation was perfect, and the staff was incredible. Immaculate consumption
Focused menu with good diversity and excellently prepared. Presentations are works of art, sometimes hesitate to take the first bite because so beautiful on the plate. Staff has always been super friendly and welcoming. We come here for special occasions as quite expensive compared to our more usual but always well worth it. When you desire a wonderful and memorable dining experience, this is the place.
Superb service and quality of food. We had a very enjoyable evening and really enjoyed our espresso martinis! Highly recommend this restaurant!
This place is amazing! We are brand new in towns and wanted to take visiting family out for a nice meal after they spent a week helping us unpack and decorate our new home. Within 30 seconds of entering we were welcome warmly by Dzintra as she saw us looking at an art piece in the lounge. Such a gracious and welcome chef and owner. Food was delicious we had the steak, scallops, pork chops, dessert, and multiple appetizers. Our waitress was very nice and the staff was attentive. Happy to have found my go to fine dining spot close to our new home. Will certainly return!
I’ve come here for lunch a few times recently; and I can say they have the best Cuban sandwich I’ve had in Austin. It’s a very generous size as well. I wish there were more restaurants in the area with diverse menus like Plate.
We sat at the bar and the food was good, tried the brie bites and the creamy burrito appetizers. Loved the cozy peaceful atmosphere ✨️ 😊 our drinks were awesome. Service was perfect.
Plate has been my favorite restaurant in all of Austin for many years. It started as a small quiet place to have a truly wonderful meal. Now it’s bloomed into a fabulous full bar with amazing atmosphere with the continued amazing food! It’s a place where they know my name when We walk in and it feels like family!
My wife and I come to Plate about once a month or so and have for a couple years now. The most recent was a week ago to celebrate our anniversary. We have never taken the time to review it. We absolutely love it. I see the Google review crowd is in full force here complaining about trivial details, as if they could make anything even remotely similar. For 20 years I traveled the world to Asia and Europe eating out for more than 50% of the year and many times at the finest restaurants in the cities I visited (Paris, London, Seoul, Beijing, etc). At some point I think there is a diminishing marginal rate of return for dining. Plate is at the pinnacle of that experience. It is so perfectly situated, the staff are extremely kind, service is always great, the food is on point, the price is excellent, and the owner is on premise and cares. My wife and I love it and will continue to celebrate anniversaries, birthdays and a Friday night drink at this place. We love it and are honored that Dzintra provides fine dining to this area. Ignore the trolls and go to this restaurant. You won’t be disappointed. Update: So time has passed and we have come here for years. Love it still seems that there are still trolls with the one star reviews being left. I would love to come to their place of work or home and rate their life. Dzintra still puts hard effort into everything she does and we feel blessed to have her restaurant in this area. We have recommended it to many friends and newcomers and all have loved it. Ignore the “foodie wannabes” and just go. Your pallet will thank you.
Great food and wonderful service. We had not been to the Plate in a while, wondered why. We will be back soon.
Plate was just an awesome experience. Everything was just beautiful. From the very beginning, starting with the wonderful hostess who picked up on a loud table nearby and offered us a different one, to Charles, our waiter, who was just amazing at reading the table, offering a great mix of wit and sarcasm, along with four absolutely phenomenal recommendations from starters, mains, dessert, and wine. He knew the menu exceptionally well, and also provided some great details on the history behind the food. It was a pleasant surprise to have Dzintra come talk with us at our table (we were just regular guests, definitely nobody special). For several minutes, she talked to us about the menu, the restaurant, and her past. Austin has a lot of great restaurants. Make no mistake, this is one of them. There are also a lot of places where you can get decent food at the same prices we had tonight. Unlike those other places, which offer decent food despite being arguably overpriced, Plate by Dzintra is exceptional value for the money. It's not cheap, but it was truly a wonderful dining experience. The ahi poke starter, the pork chop, and Dzintra's cheesecake truly stole the show. I firmly believe that you couldn't go wrong with any of the dishes, though. I cannot recommend this place enough. It's beautiful, from the decor to the dining.
Yummy food! Too bad we forgot to take photos…
Fantastic food, service and decor. Staff totally dedicated to customer service. Minor glitch was they charge to split an entree. Sounds like we're cheap to complain but it's the only thing that left a bad taste in our mouth. Pun intended.
Today, I celebrated my birthday with an elegant light lunch and phenomenal cheesecake for dessert! Best I've ever had. And, our friendly server, Kurt, very easy on the eyes, had impeccable manners. What fun!
I recently hosted clients for a fantastic dinner meeting at Plate in Austin, Texas, and the experience was exceptional. From the extensive wine menu, I selected a French Pinot Noir, which paired beautifully with our entrée choices. For my meal, I enjoyed the macadamia-crusted chicken breast, which was perfectly cooked, accompanied by the most flavorful side of vegetables I’ve had in the Hill Country. My clients were equally impressed with their selections: one had the halibut, decadently draped in a rich cream sauce, while the other opted for the braised ribs, which delivered pure comfort food perfection. We concluded the evening by sharing two desserts. The carrot cake was absolutely divine—a must-try, even if you take it to go. The gluten-free chocolate cake was a delightful surprise, offering rich flavor that caters well to those with dietary restrictions. The atmosphere was another highlight. The live music on Thursday evening added charm without overwhelming our conversation, making it an ideal setting for an intimate and productive dinner. Plate is a top recommendation for its exceptional food, wine, and ambiance. I look forward to dining there again!
Colton made great recommendations and drinks. The food was delicious and service/ambience was even better.
We went there for lunch on Easter. Everyone working that day was kind and efficient. The food was yummy. Our 4-year-old daughter loved her grilled cheese and my husband loved his Croque Madame Sandwich. He kept saying, "its an explosion of flavor!" The wine selection is suitable for what they offer on the menu. My salmon was just OK. We will definitely go back for a date night! The decor is one of my favorite things about this restaurant. Inviting green and golds and nice table cloths made us feel "fancy" even though we were around tables with families. I'd highly recommend this establishment!
Nice relaxing atmosphere during lunch today. The food was really good. I had a half club BLT served on Brioche bread and a Caesar Salad, both were delicious. A friend had the Barbara salad that was very refreshing for summertime with grilled chicken lots of fresh fruit, avocado, cucumber, feta cheese and balsamic vinaigrette. It was very tasty. Another friend had a cup of vegetable soup that was good but a little too salty. He also had the tuna salad sandwich and it was delicious. We’ve been for dinner before and the food was outstanding. The only drawback was that the music was a little too loud. Also, the entrees are a little pricey but because the food was delicious, it was acceptable. The atmosphere is cozy. The tables and chairs in the main dining room are very comfy. The wait staff is friendly and accommodating. Overall, we really liked the place and are looking forward to coming back.
This place is a hidden gem. It's a bit out there in Bee Caves, but if you're looking for a great dining experience... it's worth a visit. Great food, great service, friendly locals/regulars fill the place. I've only eaten here a few times, but I can sit at the bar and enjoy dining alone (talking to the other patrons), or a great date place. Even business meetings. I wouldn't say fine dining, but it certainly felt fancier than most. I'll go back, add it to your list!
Enjoyed lunch today and a dinner celebration recently. Both experiences were wonderful! The tuna is always a consistent favorite of ours as are the scallops and risotto. Wonderful wine selections and her cheesecake is by far the most delicious you will ever enjoy. The service has been on-point for each of our visits. Highly recommend!! Thank you!
First time there, and annoyed with myself for not eating there sooner. Great atmosphere. Really nice place for a quiet date-night out.
The last time I was inside this building it was a Cajun restaurant. They have redone the interior and now it’s a beautiful, high end bar and restaurant. The waitstaff was attentive, and the food was perfectly prepared. My husband and I weren’t very hungry so we split the branzino entree and it was amazing. I had a lovely Chardonnay and Mike had Bob Dylan’s old fashioned… both were delicious.. Highly recommend!
I had lunch at Plate today. Feeling like having a sandwich and it was the perfect spot for a for a sandwich and soup. The restaurant is lovely, the staff is nice and the menu is impressive. I had the half Rueben sandwich with the soup of the day which was a chicken base with vegetables. I thought the soup might be a little boring but it was homemade with fresh vegetables and full of flavor. I can tell the soup and salad were made with love. Delicious! I’ll be back for sure.
Being a musician, I played there New Years. The staff could not have been friendlier, including the manager, or perhaps the owner. I heard so many comments from customers about how good their meal was, and how much they enjoyed themselves. Mostly regulars! And I ordered the lasagna, (poor etiquette for a French restaurant,) and it was superb! I'd never been here before, but I'll definitely be back! Do yourself a favor, and check them out, you will be very glad you did!
This place is absolutely wonderful. The ambiance, interior design, & art all compliment each other. The staff is very kind as well! The food was extremely appealing & palatable!! The patio/window view is also lovely as it looks out onto a little pond. They have live music on Wednesday evenings & the volume is just right. It did get very crowded on a weekday so I'm sure the weekends are even more busy. We made reservations the night before, and I'd recommend making one if possible. I would definitely love coming again!
Plate has always been our first choice for celebrations, a great night out or just cocktails and appetizers at the roomy bar. The restaurant itself captures Parisian themed sections and patio dining. The owner is usually on site and her staff is excellently trained. The fish is often flown in from Hawaii. But, no one on the planet can hold a candle to her short ribs. They really are incredible! Dzintra,, thank you for your high standards and being the absolute best in what you do! You really are exceptional! ❤️
Went there with a friend on a Saturday evening and had a blast. Our server Alice was extremely nice and attentive. The food was delicious, especially the starters we chose.
Our favorite restaurant in Austin. Great appetizers and main courses. Creative cuisine without foo-foo food. It is difficult to select because all of them are excellent. Over the years we have tried almost everything. Good wine selection. Impeccable and friendly service. What else to say? It is worth the drive.
We had a lovely culinary experience at PLATE By Dzintra. Dan was our waiter and he was of great advice. He suggested we try the Ahi-tuna as an appetizer. It was melting in our mouth. He also suggested the Risotto with scallops. It was creamy, warm, delicious, comforting!! We also tried the Curry Cauliflower. It was an explosion of flavors. Dan suggested we paired our dinner with a Sancerre Rosé wine from France, which was a perfect match for the food we had. We ended with the Keylime pie, which was so light. The whole experience was a delight!!
Plate was a true food experience. The menu is varied but you can't go wrong any direction you go. I have been told the hamburgers are great, the halibut was delicious for sure, and the risotto and scallops was fantastic! Along with great food the restaurant was intimate and the staff was very friendly. Plate is a great spot to sit at the bar and enjoy appetizers and a drink after work or go out for a full dinner.
Plate by Dzintra Was AMAZING this thanksgiving! THEY saved Thanksgiving for me at the very last minute! SUPERB Food and way way beyond expectations! Staff is so friendly and helpful and only thing better is the FOOD
Wonderful, spectacular, near perfect. All I can say is that you get what you pay for. This place used to be a Cajun restaurant and it was good. We have waited for a while to try Plate, and are destined to make it our special going out destination. We started with the crab stack appetizer and it’s was very good. Fresh crab atop guacamole, mango dices on top with taro chips. Fresh and delicious. We both had the Tenderloin Rossini and it was out of this world. 60 years of eating top notch steaks and this was among the best cuts I’ve ever had. Buttery and perfectly grilled, the Demi glaze and mushrooms were amazing. This is the best place for steak we have tried in the Austin area. Atmosphere is chill but elegant. The service was stellar as well. Thank you for an excellent dining experience.
I have to say this has become our favorite restaurant in Bee Cave/Lakeway. We had forgotten about it until recently and went back and have since gone 3 times this month. The food is excellent and service and atmosphere are great as well. They have a wonderful lunch special which I always seem to get as its the perfect portion size for me. My husband opts for the pizza or entrees. My daughter and I stopped into the cafe while she was home recently from college and I had a salted carmel soy latte which was excellent. Loved having it served in actual glass coffee mugs such a nice touch. When we were there today I saw that they are open at the cafe for breakfast which we can’t wait to try as well. So glad we have a restaurant like this in Bee Cave.
I went to this Italian fine dining eatery primarily to see my family member Kevin play live music. I also decided to have a nice dinner along with the entertainment. The breads were fresh and served with whipped butter which always elevates fresh baked goods. Both the flatbread and baguette were delicious. The salad I chose was the roasted beet & goat cheese salad. This was red beets served on a bed of baby arugula and sugar snap peas, with a raspberry Dijon vinaigrette. Add a whipped creamy goat cheese, candied pecans, and Italian parsley - it was delightful. For my entree, I was in the mood for a blackened salmon Caesar salad. This was not a menu item, but the server & chef made it happen. And it was just what the doctor ordered - every bite was delicious. The youngster with us just had a bowl of buttered noodles but they were quite tasty. Hopefully we will be back sometime to further explore their menu. One nice touch was the menagerie of fine cologne in the men’s restroom - something you very rarely see but was appreciated.
Lovely ambience and decor. We sat at the bar and had excellent service. Staff was attentive and friendly. The peach salad was delicious- dressing on the side as I find that salads are often overdressed. Halibut was flaky and cooked perfectly. Hubby had the steak rare+ and said it was also just right. Plate will definitely be in our regular rotation!

Today, I visited this wonderful place for the first time and was absolutely enchanted. From the moment you step inside, you feel as if you’ve been transported to a charming European restaurant, perhaps somewhere in France, with its elegant interior, warm ambiance, and impeccable attention to detail. This restaurant is not just about aesthetics—though it is undeniably beautiful, with its sophisticated decor and stunning location by a serene lake. Here, you can truly immerse yourself in an atmosphere of beauty, tranquility, and refinement. I had the pleasure of trying the carrot cake, and it was simply perfect. The waitress was fantastic. Night brings even more ambiance white table cloths - fireplaces -makes this a great date night place. Full bar. Next to best buy. Outdoor eating. Wheel chair accessible.
My family blessed me with a visit to delightful place for my 59th birthday! I must say upon entering the building you see this beautiful scenery before you walk into the door. When you walk in, OMG, it’s absolutely gorgeous. You are greeted with a beautiful chandelier and smiles from the hostess Desk. You look to your left and you see this wonderful confection area! If you want delicious baked goods, this is your place! However, when you walk forward upon entering, you see this gorgeous bar and beautiful dining areas! We had the opportunity to get a seat by the window, which was a tremendous plus because of the ambience. As far as the food, if you want that pork chop meal, you better get there early or you may not get it, they will run out! We had the beef rib with wine sauce, mashed potatoes, and delicious vegetables. We also tried the halibut bites and the sweet and sour shrimp, Delicious! We also enjoyed the shrimp scampi. It’s really a must visit place if you’re in the Austin area or planning to visit the hill country.

Six ladies had lunch and a planning meeting at Plate today and the food and service provided by Marco & Ryan were both wonderful! We were seated at a nice round table so that we could talk and it was perfect for our group. Plate is always a great place for lunch or dinner and now they’re serving brunch on the weekend!
My wife and our one-year-old daughter stopped into Plate on a whim last night after shopping nearby. Before heading over, we called and spoke with Rosie. She was kind, helpful, and reassuring. We wanted to be sure it was family-friendly and not just a date-night spot, and she said it was both and encouraged us to come in. From the moment we walked into Plate, we were welcomed and seated right away. The atmosphere is well done. Clean, warm, and thoughtfully lit. It honestly feels like a higher-end restaurant, on the same level as places like Perry’s or Bartlett’s. The food and drinks were excellent. There were great food options for our daughter, which we really appreciated. Cocktails for my wife and me were fantastic. Appetizers were delicious, and our main dishes were very solid. Our server gave great recommendations, was attentive, and genuinely kind. There was also a live guitarist playing, who was talented and fit the vibe perfectly without being distracting. What’s funny is that it’s located next to a Best Buy, because nothing about the experience feels casual or out of place. Everything about it feels elevated and intentional. I honestly don’t understand why they don’t already have five stars. Is it cheap? No. But good food, a great environment, and strong service cost money. The pricing felt fair and completely in line with other mid-to-high-end restaurants. The value matched the experience. We’ll absolutely be back.
I hosted a Birthday party for 11 people and it was perfection. Rosie one of the managers took care of every detail. Colton the bartender made sure everyone had beverages. Our server never left us. The Birthday cake was delicious and moist. I can’t thank them enough. The food was delicious and hot! Thank you for an unforgettable memory.❤️❤️
I recently hosted a baby shower at Plate by Dzintra, and my expectations were not just met—they were exceeded! The private room was beautifully decorated with crystal stars hanging from the ceiling, paired with exquisite table settings that created a truly magical atmosphere. The staff was courteous, attentive, and incredibly helpful throughout the event. The appetizers were delicious and lived up to the restaurant’s stellar reputation for scratch-made, high-quality food. Special thanks go to Rosi, the events manager, who collaborated closely with me on the menu, room decor, and arrangements. Her exceptional attention to detail and clear, professional communication helped everything run smoothly and made the day even more successful. I also had the pleasure of meeting Allen, the owner, who was warm and engaging—he even gave me a tour of the new breakfast bar. As an extra treat, I met the incredible talent behind the scenes: Dzintra, the Cordon Bleu–trained French chef whose passion shines through in every dish. Overall, the experience was flawless—a perfect celebratory occasion filled with excellent service and enjoyed by both guests and hosts alike. Thank you to the entire team at Plate by Dzintra for making our special moment truly unforgettable!

Have been a few times. The food is generally good, but can be hit or miss. For instance, we ordered three appetizers on this last visit. Two were really delicious and one was marginal. That happens when you're willing to experiment, so I'm OK with it.
Unique for Lakeway, an upscale joint with great food. 5 stars all around - you definitely want to check them out. Didn't want to but had to deduct 1 star because our service was just... odd. Clearly an aberration (we watched other servers to confirm) so hopefully you won't have our experience.
Wonderful little intimate restaurant in Lakeway. Menu changes weekly - gourmet French cuisine. You can bring your own bottle of wine if you wish and pay the corkage fee. Highly recommend the appetizers, always delicious.
I would describe the food as Americanized cuisine with a twist. For example, the meatballs reminded me a lot of Christmas cranberry sauce meatball recipes but with a cheese filled center. The "best ever" stuffed shells had chopped jalapenos and was topped with melted monterey jack cheese. We also had the Mediterranean salad and the scallops. Everything was very good and full of flavor. I will say that the salad could have had slightly more dressing. Service was also very good. Pricing is slightly high but once you factor in the quality of the food and the atmosphere, it is very fair. I would definitely go back next time I'm in Bee Cave.
Service was great. Loved the contemporary decor. My wife’s braised short ribs were extremely salty, and the replacement took too long coming out BUT it was removed from the bill. My sea scollops were excellent! Overall it’s worth a revisit.
Great little neighborhood spot. It was great to have a solo (and talented) musician providing entertainment during "happy hour". Dinner was quite good and I'm sure we will return.
Had a lovely lunch here. The staff was very friendly, and we enjoyed our meal. I recommend stopping by the bakery area in the front before you leave.
I had the mushroom quiche and salad combo for lunch, and it was such a pleasant surprise. The quiche was much better than expected—rich, fluffy, and flavorful. The cheese on top of the salad was fresh. Overall, it was a lovely meal, and I’d definitely love to come back for dinner sometime!
Plate offers delicious food, though prices are slightly elevated. Unfortunately, my wife's chicken alfredo needed to be sent back. However, the service was exceptional, and the atmosphere, though uptown, was pleasant. Despite minor setbacks, the overall experience warrants a return visit.
This place has some nice food. Love the Ahi poke bawl, it’s my favorite. However the service is little slow like there are bit behind, or not all together… for the price I would imagine to have a better service that is prompt and fast. Instead I feel like I am in France 🇫🇷 if you know what I mean. However the food makes it up for it as it is delicious and the atmosphere is nice and relaxing with live music. Overall I would recommend this place.
I found this place a bit by accident, but I'm glad I did. There food has all been terrific. Oddly, they've been out of things both times I've been there even though I was having dinner early in the evening. What's odd is their menu changes frequently, so you'd think they'd have time to remove things not available from their menu. Additionally, once the bar had my preferred rum and the other time they did not. No matter. The food they did have more than made up for any issues. Looking for to dining here again soon.

Food is great but lacking in ambience. Has great potential with separated rooms with subtle themes. Just not quite right. Central bar is great and service was working hard but just needed more help. All the food we had was delicious with nice sized portions. Could be great with some effort on atmosphere. Will go back

Unfortunately, it looks like I can't suggest an edit to the dollar signs for this page, but this is not a $$ restaurant as advertised. The entrees are $30-$130. $$$ would be much more appropriate. It is a lovely space, and the food does look good, I just don't like being surprised after sitting down. We weren't planning on that kind of expense for that evening. I implore the owner to post images of the entire menu on this resource page, and not just the appetizers page.
Appetizer was great, wife had macadamia crusted chicken which was pretty good, I had the steak. Ordered med rare, came out RARE. Steak was fine, nothing to write home about. Not even sure it if was a prime cut to be honest(did not taste like it).
Very nice ambiance and great food! Unfortunately I cannot give full stars as our waiter was terrible. He was pushy and judgmental. I asked him to pour my champagne in a certain way and he informed me that my method was wrong and would ruin the taste. Another member of our group asked for ketchup when his dinner arrived and the waiter wanted to know why.... when my friend said it was for the fries this waiter rolled his eyes. He was a most unpleasant and unprofessional waiter I have ever encountered. It’s too bad that such a cool place employees such a rude person.
Friendly neighborhood spot with well prepared, fine food. A somewhat upscale New American, PLATE is also nicely unpretentious and reasonably priced. The menu is pretty standard but does have nice originality and twists to it, which is to say that you will find steaks, chops, fish, etc. with the usual sides, but also a few unexpected dishes and recipes; the chef-owner, Dzintra Dzenis, clearly has an enthusiasm for regional Asian styles that she fuses with other cuisines
A bit quirky. The bar looks like the main draw (live music of sorts). Food was ok. Service adequate. Of course a bit over priced (aren’t they all?) The manager “ordered” my wife to hide her metal cup that she brought in that contained her diet-coke. I’ve been told that the “finer” restaurants don’t allow you to bring in your own soft drinks even if they don’t carry your brand. It was like going through TSA at the airport.
It’s a nice place when you walk in. And you’d hope that would carry over to the service and the food. The salad we got was pretty. The fish and chips I was excited about. Except it was a greasy mess. So I had fries. I did taste the fish and it was decent. But it was super greasy and sliding out of the batter. That’s what happens when you toss the fish on the fries right out of the fryer and serve it up without resting it a few minutes. Two glasses of wine and an eye popping 80 plus dollar bill for lunch. Minus the atmosphere and decor which was nice it was a meal at Chilis. The server disappeared after taking our order and literally never came back. We asked for our bill from the guy who greeted us at the door. He went to the bar and never came back. I went to the bartender to ask for the bill. He printed it and left for five minutes while I waited for it. He left and we had to wait longer for him to come back. All in all being one of two small groups at the time this shoulda been way different. I can’t imagine if it was busier.
Plate is what I would imagine upscale dining to be if I had never left Bee Cave. Hats off to Chef Dzintra for redefining mediocrity. If you really can't drive 25 minutes to Austin and you NEED a $70 sirloin cooked by someone else, then by all means, this is the place. Otherwise, the food is uninspired and unoriginal. If you're coming here regularly, I really question your taste and imagination. The service was fine enough, but ours really enjoyed telling us the owner is never in town because she's always in Paris, which is super cool, but I think tone deaf as to how a paying customer might interpret that. She thought we would be impressed as if this restaurant doesn't sit in the middle of a $1 million+ home exurb. If you're coming here for a celebration, you probably shouldn't. Take that special person somewhere worth celebrating. If you're in the market to overpay for a well organized plate of Thanksgiving food your family could have prepared, then welcome to PLATE by Dzintra.
The food here was very good. The salmon on corn cakes was a nice start, and the scallops were perfectly cooked. The service left something to be desired, with our server largely absent. A manager eventually came to refill our drinks, but the place was largely empty and still we barely saw our server and went without refills throughout the meal. We had to finally call another server over to find our server when we were ready to pay out. It’s a shame the service didn’t match the atmosphere and cuisine.
We have went here a few times and it’s just “ok” for the price you spend. Recently, I took my wife and some friends there for her birthday and this photo sums up the whole night. “Happy Anniversary” (20 mins to get a drink, food undercook, and lastly they misspelled “birthday”. For $650 bill, it wasn’t really worth it.
So this place is just OKAY despite their attempts at being more than just OKAY. They charged me $3 for blue cheese olives OUT OF A JAR (not real cheese and not hand stuffed) which put the price of a martini at $19! I’ve had better at an airport 😥. The ‘famous’ risotto and scallops were not FAMOUS but mediocre at best. For what you get, WAY OVER PRICED! The staff is kind but lacking in responsiveness … including an overcooked steak and $3 for olives. This was second visit and last. Austin is full of great restaurants … find one of those. This isn’t it !
Service was quick and the wait staff was very polite. The food was arguably mediocre for the price. I would not recommend getting the Caesar salad. Likewise the short rib was a bit on the salty side. Vibes were poor due to noisy bar patrons and fruit flies hovering around my table.

Not as good as the pictures. We were hoping for amazing and got average. Smoked salmon was too salty. Chocolate cake was dry and seemed like it just came out of the freezer. Underwhelming.
The amazing food saved the experience for me. However I took a group of customers to dinner here and we had a private table off to the side of the bar. It was a great atmosphere until water started to pour from the ceiling onto the center of the table after we finished up our appetizers. Yes we moved tables but the manager never came out to speak to our group nor did they take anything off of our bill. Just disappointed how the situation was handle. But the food was great!! In response to your follow-up comment... it was certainly more than a “few drops” of water on our table...
Have had dinner here 3 times. 1st was amazing, food and service great. 2nd time post covid food was good service terrible but was expected as truthfully service was terrible at most restaurants then. Decided last minute to eat here last weekend and had 3 wedges and 3 martini's. The wedge salads came and had very little dressing on them so we asked if we could get a side more of dressing and were each charged $3 so $9 extra for 3 on a wedge salad we were already paying $18 each for. Wedge was very good once it had adequate dressing just seemed very chintzy to charge us $9 for dressing...
Disappointing...not close to being prepared for holiday. Basic rule, if you plan to be open Christmas Eve, be staffed and have provisions. I didn't hear one positive comment or personally experience a great evening. Forgot my starter, meals took over 1 hour...bartenders told us multiple times they had to go to the kitchen to cook! Unfortunate for what has been a staple for the community. The owner wasn't around as usual. It showed.
Went to celebrate my 59th birthday. Was so excited, as we hadn’t gotten dressed up and gone out in a long time. Well, the sparkling champagne at the end was the best part of the meal. I’m dairy sensitive and don’t eat dairy products. My salmon came out with vegetables. Asparagus was thick enough to be trees. A couple pieces were so tough, I couldn’t cut. Any amateur knows you never serve fat asparagus! The rest of the veggies were cooked in butter. Even though they didn’t serve it with buerre blanc sauce, they still used butter. My husband ordered the pork chop and liked it. Our waitress was awesome, but the food is NOT what I’d expect from a restaurant trying to be up scale. Disappointing.
It was the rave reviews that made us anxious and excited to try this place for our anniversary. My husband made reservations, and maybe it should have been a sign that when we got there, the place was basically empty, but again, the reviews were great so we were looking forward to attentive service on our special night. 1. Waiter was REALLY nice but service was beyond slow. My husband didn't get his water refilled until we were waiting for our dessert so we had to ration mine for the better part of an hour. 2. The food was not great. My husband had a macadamia crusted chicken, which he loved but I ordered the Tuscan pasta and it tasted like noodles in mayonaise 3. The ambiance that everyone is raving about was way off for us. It was like we stepped in the twilight zone. It was velvet chairs and marble like tables with straw placemats, brighter than expected seating area and the music was RANDOM. For what should be a quiet romantic evening they had karaoke or some live singer there who fluctuated between 90s alternative and hip hop music, of course a Happy Birthday tribute as well in a back room that we weren't aware existed from the point of entry. Literally the only thing I can say that was redeeming was the acknowledgement of the slow service, and comping my meal that I didn't eat. I almost want to go back to see if it was a mysterious twilight zone off occurence or if that is just how it is. But please know, from what we experienced, this is not a place to try and spend a special occasion. Hoping we get a chance at an anniversary night do over soon. -------- Do over would definitely not be at this restaurant. The owner should hire a social media specialist to handle reviews. Goal when you are days away from delivering a child is not to have a meal comped because you didn't eat it, it's to finish your plate and order 3 desserts! Waiter was wonderful and the redeeming factor of our experience. Birthday's are great too and so is the birthday song, but I didn't go to the restaurant aware of, or seeking a concert, or being overwhelmed by the fact that a Birthday party in a "private room" would transform the entire atmosphere. Last I checked it wasn't Stubbs. Having someone on a piano, cocktail, speakeasy like music , which is tastefully done elsewhere, would have been great. The point was the music did not match what we erroneously percieved to be the intended vibe of the restaurant. Thanks for making it clear to us we don't need to return. We had a lovely evening the moment we left, sorry we weren't able to stay and see what the cops arrived for. I received several compliments on the dress, thank you again for noticing! Wishing you all the best, Cheers!
The lasagne is inedible. It was mush and had zero flavor. No One asked how my meal was since I barely touched it. My friend liked his burger and my other friend liked his pizza.
Decent for Bee Cave standards, I guess? Doesn't even come close to the bar for Austin cuisine though, and at $120+ per person it had better. Bland entrees looked like the most expense Luby's meal we ever had. Small plates (as apps) were okay. Service was nice but we had several forced up-sells since most of the cost-effective/popular menu items were out of stock. The hanging Christmas ornaments (in August) were an interesting accent to an already mixed-signal ambience. Definitely won't be back, just way too expensive for what it is.

We frequently go to Dzintra. We called ahead of time asking if we could have a small dog on the patio. The girl who answered said yes. Once we arrived the bartender ran to us berating us telling us that we could not come in with the dog. It was rude and unprofessional for us to be talked to that way. We have been to the restaurant many times. I am so disappointed by the bartender’s behavior. He said we could not walk into his restaurant with a dog, and on top of that couldn’t bring outside drinks(coffee). He was extremely rude, I have a feeling if we were a group of white men, this wouldn’t have been his reaction. When we called back to speak to the manager, no one answered. Unfortunately we will think twice before going there again. We left the restaurant embarrassed and upset, due to his behavior. We went and spent our money at another restaurant.
Bad service and food. Had 3 pm reservation on Valentines Day. Was informed dinner will not be available until after 4 pm and cannot order from menu so we ordered from lunch menu. We asked for drink menu. I ordered espresso martini and she didn’t even take my husband’s drink order and walked away. I asked for drink menu. He ordered a Mai Tai , waitress came back and said they can’t do that. Then ordered a Pina Colada, waitress said they can’t do that one either. Ended up with Crown and Dr. Pepper. I ordered the Reuben sandwich from lunch menu and the waitress came back to say the Reuben I ordered is not available, no one told her they are out of corned beef. I ordered a Cuban panini, she came back to say bread is frozen so that won’t work either. I ordered the Yardhouse Chicken sandwich. It came out burnt on outside and just cooked enough on inside a bit rubbery. Wendy’s chicken sandwich is much better and a 1/3 of the cost. My husband ordered chicken salad sandwich. It was very dry. Wholefoods chicken salad is much better and a fraction of the cost. People at another table who arrived at same time we did also wanted to order dinner. Although we were told no, they ordered lasagna from dinner menu. Unbelievable! Hopefully it was better than our food. Overall, disappointing.
I would not recommend using this restaurant for any kind of special event or occasion. I made a recommendation for a client of mine. He and his wife were celebrating their 10 year anniversary. I made the reservation online. In order to link it to my phone, it had to be under my name. That’s just how open table works. The day before the reservation, I went in to chat with someone to make sure things would go smoothly I talked to Amy. The goal was to put my card down to cover the cost of the whole meal plus gratuity and ensure when my client came in, they would know the reservation was for him. She was very short with me the entire conversation. She wasn’t working the night of the event so I asked if she could let the manager know what was going on. She replied “I’ll alert the media.” Well Amy did not alert the media. Nor did she let anyone know. When my client arrived. They could not find the reservation and I had to call multiple times because no one answered the first time. I would recommend going elsewhere when planning a special event. If you decide to go here, don’t work with Amy.
I’m extremely disappointed with my recent experience at this restaurant, which used to be one of my favorites in town. I’ve celebrated birthdays here in the past and have even brought a cake to share with friends—something they had no issue with before. This time, I made a reservation for six people and included a note specifically requesting a call to confirm whether I could bring a cake for my birthday. No one called, but they confirmed my reservation via email and text message. When I arrived with my friends, I was told that outside sweets were no longer allowed in the restaurant. The manager explained that he’s only been there for eight months and wasn’t aware of previous practices. While I understand policies can change, there was no mention of this new rule during the reservation process, even though it was clear I was booking for a birthday celebration. What’s worse is that this new policy is only posted on a sign at the door—not online or during the reservation process. This was incredibly frustrating, especially as a regular customer who was already there with a cake and a group of friends ready to celebrate. The restaurant had an opportunity to make an exception and honor a loyal customer on their birthday, but instead, they chose to prioritize a rigid policy over good customer service. The result? Six shocked and disappointed customers who will never return.
The unfortunate aspect to my review is that the party I arrived with had reserved a table days in advance for a special occasion ( A Birthday in particular ) never even had an opportunity to taste the food. This place had come highly referred by a colleague and upon arrival we were seated rather quickly where we proceeded to wait for for 15 minutes without even so much as a glass of water being distributed to our table. Watching the wait staff pass in close proximity to our table on numerous occasions without any acknowledgement was frustrating enough but, after taking measures to speak with the hostess informing her that we had been sitting for an extended period without any regard from the staff she apologized said she would inform our server. After another five minutes we were finally given water by a woman who did not so much as speak to us and we were left to wait again. We unfortunately decided to depart the restaurant very displeased. The only monochrome of saving grace was that the manager approached our vehicle as we were leaving to offer an apology with an offer to provide us with a cocktail and appetizer. We did not take her up on the offer but it was an appreciated gesture none the less.
Updated Review: As you can see, the owner responded to my initial review, which I appreciated at first. I followed up with both a phone call and a text message, but I received no reply. Unfortunately, this makes it clear that the response was insincere—a canned message intended to appear concerned, rather than a genuine effort to make things right. I truly wanted to give this place another chance. We’ve had good experiences here in the past, and I believe in second chances when businesses show a willingness to improve. But in this case, the lack of follow-through was more disappointing than no response at all. A non-response would have at least been honest. Customer service and professionalism matter, especially when a business acknowledges a complaint. Sadly, this experience has confirmed that those values may not be a priority here. Previous Review: I have this place one star because we made a same day reservation and they did not honor it. We were given a recommendation to come to this restaurant for my son's birthday. We made a reservation online and it was confirmed. When we arrived, a hostess met us and said they decided to close early. Very unprofessional! I wish I could give zero stars since this happened on a special occasion! Very poor business practices.
I had lunch with two friends yesterday and we were very disappointed with our experience. They each ordered the Salad Sampler and the servings were so skimpy they thought it was more of a “tasting”. Our server was absent when we needed something so we spent a lot of time looking around hoping she would appear. I ordered 2 pieces of Coconut Cream Cake to go and my check was $32!!! $16 for a smallish piece of cake! Unfortunately it wasn’t even very good. We will think twice before going back.
