Opiniones de Yin Ji Chang Fen Berkeley
I caught the flu and had no energy to cook, with little appetite. I found this place had congees. I ordered the sliced pork, liver, and kidney congee, and it tasted really good. Even though I know they are known for their chang fen, the congee was delicious and comforting. It really helped me feel better. A great comfort food for recovery.
I'll give this place 10 stars if I can. I miss Chinese breakfast so much!!! And this place has super authentic and delicious Cantonese style breakfast. The rice noodle rolls are probably one of the best I've ever had in US, maybe it is the best! I highly recommend the fried dough flavor. I also tried the bbq pork flavor, it's good too. But my favorite is still the fried dough one. The congee is awesome too, super authentic! And the price is so nice. Definitely worthy of every cents.
Chang fen and porridge were great! As someone from Guangzhou, I have high standards for congee. Their pork liver congee is very tasty! The dishes are perfect for a mild cold.
Authentic Cantonese food (commented as someone who was born and raised in Canton / Guangdong). The best Chang Fen (Rice Noodle) restaurant chain! The service is good! The food is delicious!!! My family, friends and I love getting Chang Fen at Yin Ji!!! The porridge here is really good! Love their snacks (e.g., fried bun with condensed milk, garlic fried chicken wings). If I have to compare, I like the porridge here better than the one in Livermore/ Pleasanton but I like the rice noodle in Livermore / Pleasanton store than here!
Authentic. Laser focus on the craft: paper-thin rice noodle roll (肠粉). Consistently good and guaranteed freshly made on site. Any rice noodle roll on the menu is yummy, if you don’t know how to choose, start with Shrimp Roll and Chinese Dough Roll(炸两), one classic, one Hong Kong local’s favorite. Congee here is also a hidden gem. Fresh ingredients, smooth texture, and the time investment you can taste. Dim sum is always kid’s favorite. Shrimp dumplings and steamed buns are classic. Be mindful here dim sum is factory made frozen-resteam kind, not in house fresh type.
This is minutes from San Francisco/Livermore Outlet. The bbq rolls are fresh and the Chang fen (white rice roll) is thin and shiny. I love that vegetables are inside too. The porridge hit the spot after a long day of walking. It's home comfort food. Prices were reasonable for a simple meal.
Delicious. Service was fast. Meat was flavorful and tender. Rice noodle was a hair too soft for my taste- some of it was the right amount of chewy but other parts were soft. The sauce is the perfect balance of sweet, salty, and umami.
I went every Sunday when we lived in Berkeley. Yummy homestyle breakfast in a simple restaurant. The shrimp chang fen is my favorite… nothing more comforting! Congee is pretty good too.

A delicious dim sum snack! I was looking for a small meal downtown and this was the perfect place. I loved their marinated beef rice rolls and HK milk tea.

I think the broth could be a little richer, but overall, there was plenty of meat and it was very satisfying. I know this dish is supposed to be light, but I believe the broth could be simmered longer to develop a more flavorful aroma. Another point is that the fried dough sticks were quite tasty but could easily become overwhelming; if I tried it again, I would try the shrimp rice rolls instead. The restaurant is easy to find, cool, and clean.
Good authentic Chinese food at a reasonable price. This place was very close to the hotel I was staying at and seeing that it was not the usual cheap Chinese, I decided to try it out. I ordered the beef rice noodle roll and a shrimp wonton noodle soup. The noodle soup was okay. I enjoyed it but it was a bit bland. The beef rice noodle roll was very good. In addition to the sauce on the roll, the beef was also marinated and nicely seasoned. Service was quick for ordering and for the food delivery. If I was in the area again, I would definitely come back.
Quick service. Porridge (jook) is good but could use a little more flavor. Rice noodle and marinated shrimp and beef taste good but noodles did fall apart. Kids love won ton mien. Good value and decent Chinese food.
This is the newer location of Yin Ji Chang Fen. Chang fen or cheong fun is a steamed flat rice noodle which can have different kinds of filling. It’s simple and homey kind of food that’s often sold by street vendors all over Asia. The store also carries a small selection of dim-sum dishes.
Food here was good. I liked the dough stick rice noodle roll and boiled vegetables. However the flavors are all very similar, maybe because they all used the same sauce or similar sauce. I hope they have more varieties. I felt the food was a bit overpriced (more expansive than dim sum place on average). One bonus point though, we were with our dog and they let us sit outside. Not many dim sum or noodle places allow you to bring dog so wanted to be supportive for them!
Wanted some dim sum for dinner and came across this place on Yelp so we decided to try it. The rice rolls pictures looked amazing on the menu so we had to try some. We ended up ordering bbq pork with dried shrimp rice roll, shrimp rice roll, Shumai, Hargow, fried dough and pork organ congee. The rice rolls were both very flavorful, light and very soft. One of my favorite yet since it wasn't as thick as some dim sum places make them. The shrimp roll had decent amount of shrimp and they were all very good size. The shumai and Hargow wasn't great. It was just average. The fried dough was crispy and light, which was great since I hate sensed ones. The pork organ congee was great! I enjoy congee on the more soupy side rather than thick, so the texture to me was great. It wasn't bland but it wasn't very flavorful so we ended up adding some white pepper, chili and soy sauce. With some seasoning, it was great and the organs were perfectly cooked! Overall, I would recommend this place. I definitely want to go back and try more rice rolls, especially the pork liver one!
Okay place and would come back if looking for a quick bite in a pinch. The ride noodle rolls were good. Def would recommend a meat option. The egg custard bun and congee were both solid picks. Shui Mai we’re a bit small. Overall solid, a bit pricey, but will be happy to come back!
Prices are good, but taste and presentation are a bit lacking. The beef in changfen was too salty and too much sauce. Beef stew tastes ok but quite greasy. Liked the porridge and chicken feet the most.
Things I liked: Pork and preserved egg congee. Very nicely prepared. Perfect rice soup. Pork and egg were delicious. Shu mai and har gow were both good. Not overly fatty. But dang small size compared to average. Mixed opinion: Won ton noodle soup comes with 5 won ton. Noodles were a little doughy. Two pieces of veggie. Black gold egg custard bun had a nice bun texture. But the custard was gooey and drippy. Not supposed to be like that. I think I’ll come again. It is a little pricey for the portion size.

I was expecting more authentic food. It was ok. Congnee was OK, the shimp dumpling is ok. The shimp wonton noodle was strange shrimp in the soup and not in the wonton.... Just pork wonton... I guess you can then still call it shrimo wonton in this way. 炸兩was crunchy but they don't have any peanut sauce and sesame ...
Since moving out to Berkeley for college, there isn’t a lot of convenient dim sum places and I’ve realized that I really miss eating chang fen, aka rice rolls. This is why I got super excited about @yinjisg opening! I got their shrimp and Chinese donut chang fen and they were pretty good! Definitely a place I’ll come back to when I’m missing home. 🤩
