I have spent the last 5 days visiting New York, and I was fortunate enough to be around the block from this wonderful restaurant. My husband and I ate at least one meal here every day we were here. The service was wonderful, the food plentiful, and I must give a shout out to our friendly and attentive waitress Maria. She was the bright spot of our day. I'm looking forward to our next trip to NYC and the delicious food at Applejack Diner.

I was recommended to this diner from the hotel staff and I must say I was not disappointed. The outside seating was great for my COVID anxiety. They had heaters set up which worked perfectly on this chilly rainy morning. The service was fast and great. I’m all about customer service and theirs was outstanding attending to all our needs and wants. Then the food came: it’s was just as good as the service. Everything was fresh, hot and flavorful. You would think being in Manhattan the prices would be expensive but nope 👎🏾 it was affordable. Overall this was a great location, great service, great food and great prices. If I’m ever in NY again I will definitely be returning…

We went for breakfast, and the food was great — very tasty, and the place had a traditional, old-school charm that I really liked. The person pouring coffee was also very kind. But I honestly can’t say anything positive about our server. I’m not sure what the issue was, but they never checked on our table and were noticeably unfriendly, especially compared to how they treated others. I couldn’t help but wonder if it was because we were Asian, and that feeling alone makes me think I wouldn’t want to go back.

Interesting experience. It was pretty busy busy so we had to eat outside, but they were super nice and put down a rain cover so we didn’t get wet. The food was decent, they forgot our two orders of bacon. Not a bad atmosphere, it was near our hotel. Overall pretty nice.

Great food here! I was actually surprised. Big portions! My only complaint is that it is pretty pricey! Dishes go from $18 to $30 on average. The space is tight as well. Very narrow walking areas. Huge menu of course. Great diner feel. The staff here are all very friendly!

We stopped here for breakfast yesterday. The service was good. Greeted at the door and seated promptly. My wife had French toast with eggs and sausage which she said was good. I had the chicken and waffles which was fine. I would recommend this place based on our experience.

First of all, I like their cooking very much. They have everything excellent except they served me with a damaged plate. The price is high, but this location is very precious. Came here for breakfast based on a recommendation we got from someone at the hotel we were staying at. Boy, this place is straight out of the 90’s! I got the bacon/egg/cheese on a bagel and a waffle. The other person I was with got the egg/bacon/has brown dish. The food was pretty standard diner food, nothing too special about it. I will say that despite how it looked when it came to my table, the waffle was incredibly good! Harder on the outside but soft on the inside. The home fries were unique; they were on the mushier side with onions added. I would choose somewhere different the next time I come to the city.

Great location and ambience, but little there to recommend the food. A diner short stack and a slice of apple pie are the hallmark of American road cuisine and a good measuring stick. The pancakes are basic, small, but adequate. The pie, however, is something else. The cross section evokes the look of a leather shoe filled with moldy fruit and the taste matches. Hard to put a finger on it, but earthy, metallic and rancid were all that we could put into words. Service was quick, indifferent and entirely average, the highlight. Lots of great diners in New York, but this isn't one of them.

My friend and I decided to have a small post-birthday celebration and chose to sit down at this diner instead of going somewhere fancy. We both like diners because the food is usually tasty, comforting, and reasonably priced — nothing complicated, just a relaxed place to enjoy a meal and chat. We placed our order — I got the salmon with mashed potatoes and spinach, and my friend ordered Veal Cordon Bleu with baked potato and broccoli. But almost immediately after taking the first bite, my friend noticed a large, thick black hair in her broccoli 🤢 We waited about 10 minutes to get the attention of the only server working that night — a woman who was clearly overwhelmed and rushing between All tables, trying to manage the entire restaurant ALONE. When she finally approached us, before we could even finish a sentence, she interrupted with, “No, no, no — give me the plate,” and snatched it away. No apology, no acknowledgment, no explanation. We were both shocked by how rude that interaction was, and even more surprised that she never came back to check on us or say anything else at all. No manager ever showed up, and no one took responsibility for what happened. It felt like no one in the place cared. We understand that being short-staffed is hard — but even then, saying a simple “I’m sorry” should not be that difficult. To top it off, when we received the bill, we noticed they automatically added a credit card service fee — even for a debit card. We understand this is becoming more common in NYC, but it still feels frustrating when you’re already dealing with poor service and then get charged extra just for paying with a card. Yes, the food was decent overall, but the lack of basic courtesy and professionalism completely ruined the experience. We didn’t feel comfortable leaving a tip after everything, and we won’t be coming back.
