Opiniones de Sal & Carmine Pizza Broadway
This is the place to go for a classic New York slice. Nobody under 45 would know the correct taste, as pizza in New York diversified starting with Giuliani, however, prior to him, the New York slice was, for certain reasons, far more uniform and the taste was amazing; Sal and Carmine's have retained the classic in every respect, including the cheese blend---one of the most overlooked aspects of delivering the classic New York slice. This is a must-try.
Awesome pizza and coke just for 6$. If you need something small and good then it is place to visit. Full recommendation and will visit ut again )
Best slice in NYC. Period. Come correct to this family place (since 1959). Honor their commitment to quality by being kind and civil. Clean up after yourself. I probably should have kept this place a secret. At $3.00 the cheese slice is unquestionably the best food value in the city. Small seating area in the back. No restroom.
Best pizza in town - tons of flavor in the sauce, good crust. The mushrooms and peppers taste like they're of out of a jar - would prefer fresh. Pepperoni is excellent - well seasoned with a little kick but not too spicy. Good service and delivery options with typical wait times.
I can't believe it took so long for me to find this place on the UWS, but it's probably my favorite slice of pizza in the area. The crust is crisp, cheese is good, and tomato sauce has a slight sweetness to it which doesn't make the pizza seem as heavy to eat. I'll definitely be a regular here.
Have been going to Sal and Carmine's for almost ten years. Definitely the best pizza on the Upper West Side and arguably one of the best pizzerias in NYC. Slices are nicely sized and filling. Atmosphere is what you'd expect of a neighborhood pizza joint- quaint, nothing fancy. Family owned. Three dollar slices. My favorite is cheese. Pepperoni is good, too. I highly recommend getting a cheese slice or two before delving into toppings. Eat in or take out. They do not deliver. More than worth the trip though.
My mom has been eating Sal's pizza since 1959. I've been eating it since I could eat solid foods. This is classic superior NYC pizza at it's best. We always get cheese and no toppings. Perfect amount of sauce and cheese. The cheese is slightly salty in a delicious way. I love this puzza!
My husband and I went here in 2016. I stupidly thought I would remember the place name to recommend to friends. I forgot (in my defense we tried a lot of pizza places some great and some not so much). This one was spectacular. Like magic on a slice. So every few months I have been looking up pizza places in New York/Manhattan to try to find this one. It was that good. I finally found it! If we ever get back to Manhattan we will 100% go again.
Dropped in for a slice and was not disappointed. The crust was just right with all the tiny air pockets from well rested dough that's been allowed to ferment and rise properly. Why some pizza places rush the dough is beyond me. The bottom was perfectly baked with no sogginess and the sauce was just how I like it, light. The cheese was a good amount and not too salty. Authentic New York style pizza.
I love this place ,best pizza I ever had!! I was there this past Halloween, I got two slices and sat at the tables in the back. While eating i was looking at the old pictures on the wall and i looked over it was a guy sitting at the tables under the pictures .He had on a white Chef jacket and checkered pants with flour all over his pant and shoes.I asked him was that him on the pictures he said no, then he said which one I pointed to the young kid and he said yes that me.It was the grandson of the owner.Very nice guy.
If you’re looking for delicious New York Style pizza away from the chaos, Sal and Carmine’s Pizza in the upper west side is an oasis of freshly tossed pizza dough, mozzarella and other goodies in a traditional pizza oven - served up hot and fresh in a classy upbeat atmosphere. Service is phenomenal and it’s authenticity goes a long way in making this a less chaotic classic New York culinary experience
Objectively the best pizza in the world by far. Sal’s does it the right way, proper new-york Italian slice since the 1950s. I look forward to it every time.
Fantastic pizza overall. Crust is crispy yet slightly chewy. Sauce is tasty but not salty…mild. Just the right amount of quality cheese. Quiet atmosphere and good people.
Honestly,my brother brought me a slice home along with 4 for himself.Could be the best I've ever had,and I'm eating NYC pizza since 1960 when it was 15 cents a slice. It was the way I love it,crispy but not burned, great / not too much cheese-- but the clincher was that sweet, plentiful sauce.Blew me away. And I have a high bar of what's good, great,or fantastic.
No frills pizza joint, in and out for that crispy crust, tangy sauce, perfectly greasy cheese - what more can a New Yorker ask for? Been going for the last 30 years & my parents went on dates here before that - pretty sure I wouldn’t exist if it wasn’t for Sal and carmines. Spots got longevity for a reason Best slice of cheese in the city. Fight me
Been going for 60 years best pizza in new york and new Jersey. Every time I go to New York I pick up a pie. Old stlle New York Pizza
Been going here since we moved uptown in the mid-90’s. Definitely one of the best pizza joints around. Crust is crispy, folds perfectly. The sauce is flavorful- not just tomato sauce. Real cheese tops it off. A little pricey- $3 a slice but well worth it. I always buy at least 2 slices. Wait for a pie fresh out of the oven. Worth the wait!! A real NYC old school classic!!!
Delicious and fresh pizza! You will not regret ordering from here! If your looking for class NYC pizza Sal and Carmine Pizza is the place to go! We ordered the plain and pepperoni pies. They were both great but I think plain edged out although pepperoni slice was still delicious.
Great pizza, even lovelier people! I dropped my pizza when I tried to carry out more slices than I have hands. I asked for more slices to replace the dropped ones, and they refused to take payment for the replacements. Who does that?
Fantastic New York style slices. This is where you can get the quintessential New York city thin crust slice. All components come together here to make a nearly flawless slice. Perfect chewy, tender crust. Perfectly prepared sauce and good quality cheese. We had pepperoni and sausage slices. The pepperoni slice was excellent aside for a bit greasy but that's an expected side effect to most New York pepperoni slices. 4.5 stars. The sausage slice was better and totally 5 stars with excellent fresh sliced sausage and not a bit greasy. Service was friendly and quick. There's a small seating area in rear with about 10 tables. It was not very well ventilated but did have working ceiling fans. Atmosphere is casual. Highly recommend.
I grabbed some pizza here with friends on a Wednesday evening. I asked for two slices with onions and they threw diced onions and baked them into the cheese. The slices were cooked well, with tons of flavor. This is a great place to go for some slices.
This is one of the better secrets in Manhattan. Virtually no place to sit down inside just counter service but for a gas oven, slice shop, it is pretty good. Not outrageously priced but very freshly made pizza. Be careful, metered parking is scarce but their product is far better than most pizzerias.
This place is legendary. It reminds me of the pizzerias in Queens in the early 80s. Absolutely fantastic cheese slice. Sauce and cheese balance each other out while being held up by a thin, yet crispy and chewy crust. This is my favorite slice in the vicinity of Columbia University.
I love this place. I take friends who are visiting NYC for this authentic New York style pizza. The owner is super nice. I come here a lot. The atmosphere isn’t anything special, it’s basically a typical pizza joint.
By far the best pizza on the Upper West Side and is in the top 2% in NYC. Service is focused on making pizza efficiency not banter. Atmosphere is not important. It's all about the pizza!
I like a good pizza and I do have to say New York City has some of the best pizza I have ever eaten even on a trip to Venice, Italy. I lived for three years in NYC and tried different pizzas during my time there. So when my daughter and I were in NYC in October 2018 for an overnight visit to see the city, we traveled here to try the pizza. I read an article back in 2017 that it was rated one of the best pizzas in NYC. I told the guys there that I traveled from Virginia and since I was in Manhattan I want to try their pizza because of that article. So I ordered one slice of cheese pizza because my daughter said she was not hungry.... well that changed really quick after she took a bite of my pizza. I went and got another slice and after one bite I also agreed that this was really good pizza and went and ordered two more whole pizzas (one pepperoni) to take with us back to Virginia. I had parchment paper and an extra shoulder bag to carry the pizza in... by the way guys the pizza made it with no problem and still tasted good!! Of course the guys thought I was a little crazy and asked if there are no good pizza makers in Virginia... mostly no unless you find a good place that makes it like this. They should consider opening a pizza restaurant down here!! The guys are friendly, they use the best ingredients to create the pizzas they make, the restaurant is clean and enough seating for normal traffic or you can take it with you (use a pizza box).
I dont write reviews like never but i had to this time. This pizza is SOOOO AMAZING. I am so funny about pizza. I would say I love Pasty's but this is too good not to put on the top tiers of must eats. I had their Red Peppers and Sauteed Onion Slice, and I came back the next day to have it again. Then I had their Eggplant one which looked delicious. I'm a sauce and crust girlie and I will say you don't need to put any of the seasoning because it tastes fine without it. I tried it the second time without putting my usually garlic and oregano, perfect still. The pizza looks better then what you think it may look like.
this. is. the best. slice. in nyc. pepperoni is definitely better than bleeker streets and all those that live in this hood are so lucky its a local joint for them. the crust has the perfect balance of greasy and gooey top with a nice flop on the crust without losing crispiness. its just a solid slice of heaven
I don't even know how to describe this place without saying it's the best. Whenever i think of NY pizza I think of this place. I live in Jersey and I've been here about 2 times so far: early September and early December. First time I went with a group of friends, we had another friend from the city acting as a quasi tour guide and he suggested we head to Sal and Carmine's for a bite. We all loved it. Next time in the city I was with a close friend and decided we should stop by again for food. Same amazing experience. The atmosphere is what it should be for a Pizzeria and nothing less. There's a Metallica record signed to the owner's on the back wall so metalheads like myself get something extra to look at. Best damn pizza I've ever had. Drinks are cheap too. My only complaint is that there isn't a public bathroom so do your business before you stop by. I'll be coming here anytime I find myself in the city.
My favorite pizza ever. Native New Yorker here, it’s a big statement but something about this slice is just PERFECTION. It’s a family owned business and it has been around a long time, but I still see the owner working here sometimes which is so nice to see.
Foods fresh and GREAT! Authentic Italian pizza. Staff are courteous and friendly! Would recommend if in the neighborhood
The pizza we got delivered was standard quality for NYC pizza… fantastic! It was slightly box soggy, but that is EVERY delivery pizza. (That is, that initial out of the over crunch isn’t there 100%, but rather 91%. ) If you want that out of the oven crunch, walk your butt to the pizza place and get it straight out of the oven.
I’m planning my next NYC trip around this place! Visited on a whim during a study tour six years ago, and this place has been on my mind ever since! The staff was so welcoming, and the pizza was the best I’ve ever had! I can’t wait to visit New York just to have a slice here again! Love from Missouri!!
Wow, I think this is the best NY cheese slice I've ever had. Definitely my new favorite triangle slice (my fav square being L&B Spumoni gardens). So glad it's close to me on the UWS. Those guys in there are real New Yorkers, too. Super nice and generous, but gritty. I guess I'm converting from Patsy's🫢
I had the plain slice since the cheese here is vegetarian friendly. Service was great. Small place to eat in the back very nostalgic.
I’m so glad I took only one cheese slice ($4). It was huge! And heavy with all the cheese and salt. But man it was delicious. When I’m in NYC again, I’ll definitely re-visit this place.
It's a nice place with a great ambiance. Pizza is always fresh. I've never had a bad slice from there. Whenever I'm in the neighborhood with my friends, I go here. I have had many friends fall in love with the place. If you're looking for the classic New York slice, this is where to go.
Arguably, the best pizza in NYC, but not the most popular (or best service/production so theres some inconsistancy) so u have to make sure the slice is fresh (recently out of the oven, worth the wait) A tip: order a fresh pie for yourself...always fresh and u can pick your fave slice (more sauce vs cheese, welldone vs under). For NY Slice novices, never order the specialty slices on display, ie STALE Pizza. Bon Appetite :)
Classic NY slice. Perfect!! Large slice with correct amount of sauce and cheese. Great texture - foldable with no flop. Really loved it and will return.
Everytime i take a bite of this pizza I think to myself man I love being in New York City man. I just happened to stumble upon this place one time when I was lost in the city and I wanted a quick bite to eat. The place looked quaint enough uh nothing stood out nothing fancy just straight to business. The first bite you take is going to surprise you, the second one is going to convince you. Even once you're done and you get to the CRUST, you're not wasting that crust that's part of the greatness. If you took your time out today to read this I believe you're a pizza connoisseur try this pizza you'll either like it or love it and what else can you ask for from a New York SLICE.
5 star for authentic slice served on a paper plate in an old style shop. Fast service, perfect slice every time, both traditional pizza pie and the delicious square, thick crust slice (my favorite). Eat on the street or sit at the few small tables in the back and you will be joined by a few locals, kids with a caregiver, and guys on break. Please don’t ever close 🙏🏼
Sal and Carmine Pizza has the best pizza I have ever had. The aunts were fighting over the crust and they don’t even like crust! Even my grandma who has a very strict diet made an exception for this sublime pizza. Sal and Carmine is celebrating its 68th anniversary! If you like pizza, even if you have dietary restrictions, TRUST ME, you will love 🤩this pizza! Would HIGHLY recommend!
Sal and Carmine’s on the Upper West Side is a true gem for pizza lovers! I ordered a pepperoni and sausage pizza, and it was absolutely delicious. The pizza was generously topped with a rich, flavorful sauce that perfectly complemented the savory toppings. The crust had just the right amount of crispiness—light and airy but still with that satisfying crunch. What makes this place even better are the fair prices, especially for the PIZZA SIZE you’re getting. If you’re in the neighborhood and craving an authentic New York slice, Sal and Carmine’s is definitely worth a visit! Also! The place boasts a huge interior space and a lot of seating too!
Sal & Carmine Pizza always hits the spot! To me, their pizza is underrated (which I don't mind because that means fewer people haha). Compared to all of the pizzerias in the neighborhood that sell *street pizza* they have the best. The sauce is a perfect balance of sweetness with savory. You can tell that they use fresh mozzarella. The crust is not too thick and not too thin either. If you want that crunch, ask them to heat your slice for a bit longer than usual. My bf and I always stop by to chat with the pizza maker and cashier. Both are great guys. We've never had a bad experience or a bad slice/pie. If you're in the neighborhood, definitely stop by to get a slice. You won't regret it. P.S. They're selling icees for a dollar (2 big scoops) you can't beat that deal, especially with this heat.
I stopped in for a slice after hearing raves from several friends. I will say it was a pretty solid slice. The dough had a great taste and the pizza was cooked really well. It's a classic NYC pizza joint and it's nothing fancy but they pull off a solid slice. The main issue I have is that it's $4 for a slice which feels very expensive and there's little discount if you buy the whole pie.
A great place to get pizza on the UWS! The crust and sauce is good and this is a no frills type of pizza place. They have slices you can buy, and they sometimes run out of toppings (couldn't make me a sausage slice), but on the whole it's a great place. They do not have other stuff (salads, calzones, etc.).
Overall Sal and Carmine's has a solid slice of pizza but not without its flaws. I opted to try a plain slice and a pepperoni slice. The dough and sauce had a nice flavor but the cheese was REALLY salty, like on the brink of being overpowering. Had the slice been less salty then I probably would rank it top 5 in the area. As for the pepperoni slice, the salt was pretty overbearing. It was almost salty to the point that I couldn't finish it if I wasn't starving. I give this a 4 because I'd definitely go back for a plain slice if I'm in the area but I'm not going out of my way to come here.
Very good pizza with generous toppings and a crispy base. Inside the staff are friendly and there is seating at the back. $5 per slice so not the cheapest (and I still like Whole Foods 4 cheese pizza for under $5 for the whole pizza) but for a quick stop when you’re hungry - this place is good to go. They also have a variety of toppings to choose from.
Very long wait time and that is because each pizza is made individually from scratch - totally worth the wait but won't recommend if you just want a quick slice - the pizza is somewjere in between a typical NYC greasy pizza and Grimaldi's - it's feels and tastes of high quality ingredients
Should be renamed Sal & Carmine’s Cheese Monster Pizza. A solid slice that delivers. I personally like the sauce and if you like a lot of cheese then you’ll probably rate this higher than I did. Overall - 8.0 Crust - really nice colour but taste is very plain Topping - so cheesy Sauce - nice and sweet Price - $4
Typical New York slice. Sauce was a bit too sweet. Dough had a good crunch, but was dense. Not bad, but probably won’t come back
Edit: I had to change my rating. The thick and fluffy crust has gone from delightful to disappointing. I didn’t know there was such thing as too thick or fluffy. But there is. I was hoping it was a one-time fluke but after three tries, every time I’m left feeling like I ate half cooked pizza. Guys, please go back to your old ways! ———————————— The crust. The crust is what does it for me. I have very strong opinions about pizza, especially as the selection on the UWS is paltry. I had one place that I swore by, but took a chance and ordered a regular pie from Sal and Carmine’s to give it a whirl. It’s awesome. If you like thicker, fluffier crust like I do, you will love this place.
I love Sal and carmines pizza. Been gettin pizza from there all my life. That said, 5 stars to the in-shop slice. Delivery is something else. The crust is never thin like it is in the shop. It’s thick and awful, which makes the pizza super heavy and really not good. They tell me it’s because they need to make the pie fit the pizza box. That’s not satisfactory at all and a stupid excuse. Simply use less dough and make the slice recognizable as a sal and Carmines slice. Whenever I order delivery from Sal‘s, It’s tastes more like digiorno or dominos. I hope they fix this problem because I can’t always get to the shop.
It was alright. Bottom crust too soft and floppy, sauce too sweet, cheese not as piquant and flavorful as I’d like. Yet another instance of expecting the perpetually promised world’s best pizza NYC #1 baby, but instead getting an alright slice no better than most of what I can find in rural Vermont. Try harder New York City!
The cheese is right, the crust is right, but the sauce is off. It is too tomato paste heavy, which leads to a tangier and sweeter sauce. If that’s your preference, this might be your spot, but for me it left a tangy taste in my mouth and wasn’t a balanced slice.
Honestly, I was a bit disappointed when I came here. I had looked at this place online to find a nice spot to eat with a friend to celebrate something. I had seen a lot of high rated reviews, many saying how this was “a rather iconic place in the upper west side,” and had high expectations for this place, but didn’t have the best experience. The place felt rather small and crammed, with only a few places to sit. Besides that, the food didn’t look the most appetizing. It was alright, but I had expected better. I’d probably look somewhere else for good pizza.
Special pizza with dollops of tomato sauce served on the cold side. Server negligent to properly heat the pizza. Too in a rush to serve others. A bit expensive too, not really any cheese in the pizza.
Average tasting pizza drenched in grease. Doughy crust, not crispy. Much better slices elsewhere on the UWS. I remember getting great slices here 12–15 years ago. Now no more.
I ordered a Margherita pie for delivery. The pizza was undercooked, and the dough was almost raw in some places.
Sal and Carmine used to be one of the best slice shops in NYC. I ordered a pie for delivery and it was pretty bad. Crust was much too thick and doughy. Cannot recommend.
My first attempt eating Sal & Carmine’s wasn’t great. But always give a second try, as everyone has an off night. Sadly worse than the first Just picked up a pie. Definitely a reheat as the pepperoni are uncooked and basically sitting on top of the pizza Dough super soft but not in a good way Don’t see any reason for a third try Bummer as I recently moved nearby Attempted to call and share this feedback privately but phone is constantly busy
Service is fine but the pizza has become trash. I moved up here about a month ago and I've tried three pies, two New York style and one margarite. I'm gonna include a picture of the margarita I just got. This thing is a joke. I ate two slices and you can see all the extra sauce that came off. Disgusting. And look at this cheese... It's so rubbery it didn't even melt into the sauce at all. Mad gross and it cost me over $30. Whatever this place did to earn it's reputation in the past, it's Nasty now. UPDATE: look how salty the owners are responding :''') His advice is just to make your own pizza, instead of buying his. We agree on this!
Unfortunately this was bad pizza. Too much sauce, and the dough was undercooked with a strangely sweet smell. I don't like to bad mouth a neighborhood joint, but at $40+ for a pie and delivery, this was a disappointment.
The past few times I’ve stopped by here the pies on display have been extra greasy and not fresh at all, like they’d been sitting there for hours. This place had been on such a good roll in the last two years or so in terms of quality but it’s downright bad again. I hope this can be changed. ETA: I was just here, asked for two pepperoni slices which had to be reheated. In the meantime a fresh plain pie had come out. Seven minutes later I asked him for the two fresh slices, instead. He point blank refused. This is unacceptable. Never returning here and I’ve been a customer for twenty years. Mama’s Too is just a few blocks north and I’ll even eat at the new Pizza Hut opening soon on Columbus.
I remember a time when this local pizza shop, nestled in the heart of our neighborhood, was a true gem. The original owners poured their heart and soul into their work, and it showed in every slice. They knew their customers by name, and their passion for pizza was infectious. But now, it's a different story. Since the torch was passed to the grandson, the heartwarming atmosphere that once graced this place has vanished. The first thing you notice is the absence of the owner. There's no longer that personal touch, the warm greeting, or the feeling that you're dining in a place where pride and passion reign supreme. Service has taken a nosedive. Waiting times have grown frustratingly long. The quality of ingredients and the taste of the pizza have suffered. It's clear that this is no longer an owner-operated business, and it's painful to witness. The hours of operation have changed in their favor yet they can’t seem to ever open up on time. In the past, you could feel the dedication of the original owners in every bite. The fresh ingredients, the perfectly seasoned sauce, and the love put into each pie were evident. Now, it feels like any other fast-food joint. If you're looking for a true owner-operated pizzeria where your satisfaction matters, this sadly isn't it anymore. The difference between the past and the present is as stark as night and day. I miss the days when this place was the heart of our neighborhood, but that's just a memory now.
Been living in the neighborhood for 10 years. Have frequented this establishment hundreds of times. My last visit, staff were jerks, overcooked my slices, when I asked for Parmesan cheese they claimed “ they have not had it in 40 years.” Clearly wrong as I had been there and used their Parmesan cheese before. Sad to see quality places cut corners and hire people with no manners. Won’t be coming back. Plenty of other pizza on NYC and the neighborhood.
Waited 1hr15 to get our delivery. We paid 27$ for a Marguerite pizza. They said it was extra for that style. No problem. Three ingredients, very easy, what could go wrong. It comes like the photo below, no basil, over cooked, stringy mozzarella. My 95 year old Sicilian grandmother had to sprinkle dry basil spice on it to make it edible 😂. Sauce is sweet like a cheap pasta sauce. Honestly I was starving and barely got through one slice. Very disappointed.
Today I went to pizza shop and ordered 3 slices. One slice was a ricotta slice and I asked for a little sauce to be put on top. I was told I had to pay 1 more for the sauce by the worker making the pizza. I was shocked because I have never paid extra for a little a little sauce on my ricotta slice. I wasn’t gonna pay and the guy said if I want it that I have to pay since it is a topping. I read the toppings list and it wasn’t there. I told him that it is not clearly written on the toppings list so how would I know that it cost extra. He said ok I will give it to you but next time you know and you will pay 1 more. I responded, then you need to put it on the toppings list. That was after his rudeness towards me and unacceptable behavior. Shortly after the same guy was rude to another customer. I went back inside and asked for his name. But he refused, stating if I told him why I wanted his name he would give it to me. Then, I told him I was going to call Sal and tell him how rude he was. Again, he refused! He said that I should wait until the owner is in the store, so he could be there when I spoke to him. Really! He also told me that he is recording me, sounded like a threat towards me! Why because I had asked for his name and took photos to write my review. The nice new young lady taking orders apologized for his rude behavior. I accepted her apology and stated that he is the one who needs to apologize. I walked out and tried to call Sal using the number in the photo below that they provided. I called and an answering machine states “Madonna’s Cemetery and Mausoleum.” What in the world?!?! Contact Sal because it is the same owners, it’s a family business and same family recipe!!! Their sign comes off as how dare customers ask or even accuse them of being new owners. Their response in their sign is IT IS NOT. Well after my experience today they are lying because I was not able to reach Sal on his personal cell phone number. You can call the number yourself from their sign in the photo below. The proof is in the pudding. Now I understand why he was trying to ignore my questions and accusing me of wrong doing. The audacity of him! He is in the wrong and their hand written fraudulent signs posted are false and misleading. They are not worried about customers calling “Sal the owner” since the number they provide will not allow you to speak to Sal. They are imitating the real Sal’s pizza and I will not be returning! Don’t let them fool and disrespect you too! Thanks but no thanks!!!
