Otway is awesome and my go to spot for coffee, brunch, pastries etc. The woman who owns it is really nice and friendly and most importantly puts so much love in all aspects of the place and it really shows. They have awesome outdoor seating now too! If you’re into good bread try their rye bread.

Stopped in for lunch and met Samantha, the sole owner and espresso slinger extraordinaire, who though very busy running the entire restaurant, found the time to chat and make me feel welcome. Learned about Australian coffee culture and we talked shop on pastry. Took home the savory bun (spinach & mushroom) and it was fire! Will absolutely come back every time I'm in the area. Go for lunch! Go for dinner! I'd say it's $$ not $$$. Absolutely worth it regardless.

Our favorite place! We come here at least once a week. Everything is just perfect. Their food, their team and their atmosphere. Thank you, Otway, for being amazing!

A hidden gem! Definitely get the burger, it is sooo good with the carmelised onions. The egg sandwich was decent, but not a fan of the lamb patty add-on. Would be back!

Great breakfast spot! Of course they have their famous baked goods, but they also have great breakfast plates with eggs and breakfast sandwiches. Great environment to relax and enjoy great food.

Service was impeccable for me and my 2 yr old granddaughter for brunch at noon on a Tuesday. Our waiter was very gracious and attentive. Perfect cup of coffee (americano). My hot chicken sandwich was great - very different from anything I've had before. Yogurt, fruit and house made granola for her...she loved it. Highly recommended!

Best meal I've had in a long time. Amazing cuisine, fresh flavors and great bar menu.

This place was humming when we showed up. After a short wait they found us a place to eat. Excellent food. The duck was delicious. Innovative appetizers. The bartenders and servers were extremely knowledgeable and led us through a tasting adventure of natural wines from France. As a part time resident of Paris I found myself at home, very much like the local brasserie. Highly recommended.

Wow! What an amazing experience at Otway! If you live or are in the area this is a must. But most importantly Jeanelle is the true star of this place. She provided best in class service for a big group of us. I would be elated if I always got her as my server. If you come to Otway ask for her. The food was excellent and staged timely. Get the strawberry dessert and crudo :)

Love the atmosphere and aesthetics here. Real hidden gem. We always have a lovely time here and have enjoyed all the food we’ve had (only been for brunch/breakfast). Great coffee and pastries and especially love all the little antique spoons!

I'm not sure what Dan K. is talking about. His sad diatribe of a blowhard review is nothing short of a new parent temper tantrum. This place is great. The food is constantly excellent and so is the service. The wine list and cocktails and inventive and unpretentious. Go here and remember why dining out is such a pleasure.

Jessica Boulet

Unbelievably fantastic, in the vein of wildair (for foodies and natural wine lovers). The staff was unbelievably kind and fun even though we came in near closing. Every single thing we ate was amazing - generally, this place uses Mediterranean ingredients (chickpeas, mushrooms, fried cheese, etc) but innovates with the flavors.

K

The service is always friendly and spot on. The food is wonderful - most recently had burrata and squash (divine) , little gem salad and the burger which is a 1000 better than the over- hyped nearby neighbor.. Otway is truly a neighborhood gem.

K

Great date place. What stands out most is the the attention that the staff pays to their customers. You feel like a guest in their home. Love the beer options, but usually start with one of their creative cocktails. I usually opt for their tasty & unique starter menu. Stay for dinner and you're in for something that is hard to fake: raw talent in the kitchen. It comes across in the broad range of options and preparations catering to carnivorous savages and vegetarians alike and in their clear love of what they do. It's a local gem that delivers like a Manhattan dynastic mainstay or an Alpine kitchen before non-food was invented by Michael Keaton.

Absolutely delicious food and even better staff. Friendly and cozy atmosphere while being incredibly trendy. Highly recommend their asparagus with crab aioli

My first experience at Otway was for a Valentine's dinner. I'd give it 6 stars if I could. The atmosphere is laid back, but romantic, they played 80s and 90s love songs and added little touches like arranging the bread for the mussels into a heart. The squash and burrata was delicious, I highly recommend the cocktails. I'll be back for brunch very soon. What a treat.

Otway Review Tuna tarta- so good. Just the right amt of acid. I do think maybe a little less soy sauce bc was a little on the saltier side. The celery did give it good balance, along with the toasted noodle crunch. Duck wings, like the sweet & heat. Endive salad- was so delicious! Love the layers of flavors and texture with the cheese and nuts. The light dressing was refreshing. The potato side dish was so flavorful. Nice balance of heat, sweetness and crunch on top of warm soft potato yumminess. This reminded me of comfort food on a cold rainy day or after a break up lol The mackerel fish was spot on. Light, flaky and I liked the crunchy refreshing salad on top. The butter beans I wouldn’t have thought to be paired with but it was also very comfort food-esk and filling for a cold wintery Saturday night. The steak I did not like. The meat was chewy and lacked flavor for me. But I did like the sautéed endive on the side. The hazelnut tart I loved. But I love nuts and sweets. It was the perfect combination of sweet & salty hazel nuttiness and the blood orange was a perfect layered taste on top of the whipped cream and tarte. I was disappointed by the s’mores dessert. The mousse and crunch was a little too dark chocolate bitter tasting to me, but it was nicer when mixed with marshmallow. But please keep in mind I am not a fan of the more purer concentrated dark chocolates. I have a sweet tooth lol Overall I thoroughly enjoyed the food tasting experience. I would love to do more of that if you like feedback. The ambience was very simple, classic, farm to table type of feel which I do love. The servers were really nice. I love that you have a boozi-less drink menu which I’m sad that I didn’t get to try bc I wanted to leave space for the yummy eats. But I will be back and would love to try them next time!

im not from here. but ive spent 4 days in clinton hill and visited otway every day, that my schedule allowed. otway is kind of like when your favorite author writes a novel that has flat characters, underdeveloped plot but occasional kernels of absolute genius. and those kernels keep me coming back every single day, that my schedule allowed. perfection is the enemy of good, but in clinton hill 2023, as a visitor, good just doesn't cut it.

I physically cannot live more than 20 minutes away from this amazing delicious haven. Their coffee is amazing, their baked goods are fresh and delicious and so original, everything is incredible and worth every single penny. If these people had some kind of monthly membership I’d sign up. Never ever have I had a mediocre, meal, coffee, pastry, sandwich, or experience. Otway is the best.

A
Adeline Campbell

While everything we had was incredible, the burger was the true standout. The house mayo on a soft bun with a perfectly cooked burger was just incredible. This is also the second time I've eaten oysters from here and this time they were excellent, probably the best I've had in my life and I've eaten them right after pulling them off the ocean floor. My only complaint was the desserts, while they did taste great, they lacked an impressive presentation or hero flavor that you found in most of the other food.

Otway is one of my favorite restaurants in Brooklyn. It's casual in it's amotsphere and demeanor, but it is sophisticated in its cuisine and service. If you want food that you will want to talk about for weeks, go to Otway. I suggest it to everyone

I'm a regular at Otway and my partner and I go every couple of weeks. We've gotten to know the staff and the menu as it's changed over the years. This is the perfect restaurant. Fancy without breaking the bank, beautiful afternoon light, cocktails to die for, not a bad thing on the menu. Can't say enough about the Otway team - incredible service and so thoughtful. See you next week. :)

After passing by this place many a time, finally went in for dinner and Otway delivered! Sat by the window at the bar and never felt rushed, a very welcoming and cozy place. Got the Fried Sourdough, Persimmon Apple Salad, Wild Mushroom Risotto and the Otway Burger and no objections, every flavor on the dishes worked perfectly. Thanks Otway for a great experience, see you again soon!

Otway exceeded my expectations in every way. The food was simply fantastic, bursting with flavors that delighted my taste buds. What impressed me even more was the reasonable pricing, offering excellent value for the quality of the cuisine. The service was exceptional, with attentive and friendly staff who went above and beyond to ensure a memorable dining experience. From start to finish, this restaurant truly delivered on all fronts.

Had a wonderful meal here dining outside with a large group. Servers were friendly, kitchen was super accommodating to some dietary restrictions we had and all the food was inventive, satisfying and beautiful. Cocktails were on point. For a date, casual weekday dinner or even a special occasion this is one of the finest spots in BK to go out.

Otway is such a great restaurant and so under-rated. If you’ve tried the bakery and like it, you know that they do everything well. The restaurant is the same. It’s a small menu, but every dish is perfectly conceived and executed. We have had such a great meal every time!

C

It’s a beautiful small space. Came here for brunch with a friend and we shared two plates - a deluxe breakfast and the Gravlax. The breakfast deluxe was simple yet delicious, the crispy potatoes and toast were a hit for me. The Gravlax was a tad on the fishier end so we didn’t enjoy it. Other than that, I would want to come back again!

M
Mark

First time there we shared four of the snacks and each were sublime. Literally looking forward to having a full meal there (although 4 snacks was enough to not need dinner afterwards). Updated post-dinner in January ‘18: Great service, wonderful food. Go eat here!

Our favorite neighborhood hang for a superb happy hour with quality food and drink.. great natural wine selection, satisfying snacks and entrees and, if you're lucky like we were, $15 for a dozen oysters without a single speck of sand or grit in them. Love this place - highly recommended. Come early because the place is small and popular. Cheers!

The food at this restaurant is among the best I have had. Everyone in our party raved about their meal. I had the gnocchi dish and it was soft and flavorful. Other outstanding choices: the mackerel, lamb, and steak. This place is a foodie lovers must do.

A

Yes the bakery and the brunch are top tier. But dinner is where Otway shines. Great wine list and excellent dirty martini. Get the chicory salad if it’s on menu. Go for the duck wings. Any pasta or veggie dish here rules. The burger is always a staple. Implore you to try the other entree dishes. Pretty sure menu changes often. Had octopus awhile back that was divine. Otway does it right.

This is the best restaurant ive ever eaten at that isnt a viral sensation. The rabbit ragu, burger and duck wings were all incredible. The snow pea negroni was one of the most refreshing spirit forward drinks ive ever had. Talked to the chefs and the bartender and they were all lovely. Design was super chic as well. GO HERE!!

A hidden gem of a restaurant. Went as a group of 8 so we tried nearly everything on the menu, and every dish was bursting with flavor. The charred cabbage, sweet potatoes, beets, lamb belly, and grilled mackerel were all fantastic! Highly recommend.

This place is a really special place - the atmosphere is amazing with some of the friendliest and courteous staff I’ve met. The drinks and the food are also fantastic, particularly for the price. 10/10 would recommend if you’re in the area, or are willing to go a little out of the way for it.

We had such a lovely time at Otway! The food was incredibly delicious, but what really made the evening special was Miranda..She took care of us, she was warm, kind, and genuinely thoughtful. Walked in an hour before closing last night and had an incredible experience. We were seated & ordered right away, the food came quickly and everything was top-notch. The natural wine & ramp cocktail both delicious, the bread is as great as everyone says. We also got crudo, cucumber salad, ravioli, and trout and the summer corn panna cotta. Service & ambiance were lovely. Thank you, we will be back!

This place was amazing. Snow pea white negroni was next level. The pilsner was great. Split the burger w my friends and it was amazing. Strong flavors put together delicately. This profile continued for the other dishes: Duck wings with the Chef's Mom sauce, a simple, tangy Thai fish sauce and Rabbit ragu pasta. I don't like duck or rabbit but these dishes converted me. No lie! The bartender was lovely and chill and we talked to the chefs also. They took over the menu about a year ago and are doing amazing things. Every dish was elevated without trying to show off. I don't understand why this isn't a hot spot but I'm going back and you should go, too. Their sister bakery down the block is killing it too, I hear. Thank you guys! See you soon!

The experience at Otway is absolutely phenomenal. Everything from the service to each individual bite was perfect. Miranda and Aly were amazing, treated us so well and were spot on with their suggestions. Nick the chef was also a star and came to talk to us about the cambodian influence on the duck wings that were so, so good. Don’t sleep on the pickled cabbage with shrimp powder. Definitely coming back and recommending to everybody!

Came here for breakfast and it did not disappoint. Everything was very delicious. We made reservations but there were actually plenty of tables available for a Saturday morning. The egg sandwich with scallions was so delicious. The flavors were perfect and the bread was amazingly fluffy. The cardamom bun is also really good! Their separate bakery is just a few doors down.

First; the bread is next level. 6 stars for the bread. And overall this is a good restaurant that’s mostly hits but has a few details I would change. This was almost a 4 for me, but I’m swaying in the 4.5-4.6 direction so full 5 star credit is granted. The drinks are quite good and the Tepeche is something I haven’t seen before! It’s a mild pineapple kombucha; super tasty. The margarita was also top notch, not overly sweet. These are from a well considered bar. The bread is life changing. The butter is perfect. Why have dinner after? Just get a loaf. In all seriousness it was a generous portion of amazing sourdough and it changed my life and became my friend for just a moment. The melon is far too simple of a dish and needs to be portioned differently and come with some other flavors in tow. It’s just a slice of cantaloupe and salt; so this was a let down after the divine bread. We found the burger and desert to be spectacular (that’s strawberries and cream), although the cream leans into feeling a bit oily and the dish could have been slightly colder. The steak was another slight miss. It was good but for the price point ($40+), I need to see something really amazing to not feel out of sync here. Meat was slightly dry, could have been more tender. Nothing much to say about its flavor and it wanted to be part of the sauce but was plated oddly and separately… sort of inviting you not to mix them. The accompaniments were ok, a little too much salt forward-ness in the mushroom marmalade. But it was tasty overall: would rather have had 2 burgers. Fries were on point and well cooked. A lot of unique savory notes in the burger that put it a cut above competitors. I know it feels like I’m roasting this place, but I’ve been to restaurants at every price so I have hundreds of points of context for this review. It’s a top 50 in Brooklyn, brunch is awesome here apparently, but it’s not in my top 10-20, roughly. Anyway; that’s the review. Thanks for reading! Enjoy!

I thought the food was great. The presentation was really good. The burger was juicy, the Paris sauce with the gnocchi was fresh and tasty. The chocolate mousse was lighter than I hoped, but still good. Overall very enjoyable, and I'd like to try more things. Nice airy space.

Came in for work related purposes and was delighted by the ambiance and super kind server. Had a pumpkin pecan cake slice and it was the best I’ve ever had. I was reluctant to try it at first because I’m not a nuts kind of girl but did anyway and I ate every bit of cake and nut there was and wanted more. It was a perfect balance of sweet and yummy! The vibe is super chill and relaxing!

Cute little French-adjacent place for dinner or drinks. Go M-F 5:30-7:30 for LE BINGE: happy hour pricing on drinks & $15 for a dozen oysters. Great ambiance and food overall but be aware: It’s a very small space (read: hard to maneuver in) and not every cocktail is subject to happy hour pricing.

Went for Sunday brunch. Chic decor, open, sunny, intimate. Coffee was hot and delicious, bright, slightly acidic, yet with some body. Their fresh baked bread is to die for and the French cheese starter was light, creamy, and magnifique. For the main dish I had the omelette—simple, cheesy, soft, and tasty. Staff were welcoming and friendly. And for dessert a chocolate plum cookie, rich and decadent. What a wonderful experience and lovely Brooklyn gem.

Had a fantastic dinner last night at Otway. Pure flavors with many layers of complexity. Some of the best cooking I've encountered. Order the uni crepe with a glass of sparkling Jacky Blot Chenin Blanc. Thank me later. Oh, and the service is on point. Bravo, Otway! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

The coffee was delicious and the pastries are fresh. The golden raisin scone was delicious and moist. The savory biscuit was ok. However, my mother, sister and I agreed the bun and almond croissant would not be a repeat order.

A real gem. Menu is very small, but a week curated variety and everything is done perfectly. This includes the drinks, really great set of cocktails and beers. Their breads and pastries are amazing, and are a reason to stop by in the mornings as well.

French bistro in the neighborhood. Simple food, fairly well done. Good service at the bar but table service could use some polishing up. Good bread, which sounds weird to say, but for Brooklyn that’s an oasis. As other folks have mentioned, the environment in the restaurant is excellent. Probably the best value happy hour in Clinton Hill.

L
Laura Carlson

The food here is incredible (both brunch and dinner) but expect a wait. We showed up for brunch as they were opening- had to wait an hour until the kitchen opened and then another 45 min for our meal. We would have been upset but the food was so good we had to try it again. We came back for oysters and snacks- still had to wait awhile for food but when it finally emerged, it was delicious!

C
Caroline Buck Tawney

Brunch: fried chicken sandwich 👌, egg sandwich is good but be specific about how you want your yolk cooked (or get scrambled), the cruller donut behind the counter has to be one of the best I've ever had (not sure if made in-house or not). Get polenta if you want a rich and creamy update to country style grits, complete with gorgeous wild mushrooms. It gets crowded on Sundays, so go early or on Saturday.

We're very happy with the steaks and wine ordered. Staff are courteous and helpful. Restaurant is well maintained and clean. It's essential to book for reservations as the place is small and popular round the area. We'll return without doubt.

Great food. The first time I went was a weekday morning and the service was excellent. 5 stars. The second time was on a Saturday for brunch. I called ahead and they had a table ready when I arrived with 3 other people 30 min later. Awesome! However, the place was packed and there was only one server. Maybe someone called in sick? It took at least 15 min before we were greeted by our server. He didn’t write down our order and made multiple mistakes. I will definitely go back as I think this past weekend may have been a fluke.

Second time trying thier food, not bad at all conoare to the others I have went. They give you a good amount of the sides but not the meat. Wish they added some type of meat ans hot sauce to the collard greens but it was still enjoyable

Was excited to try this place after walking by many times! I'm pretty shocked that they don't have a single vegetarian entree on the menu. It would be an easy fix to have some kind of upscale veggie pattie option for the burger. Or even better, to do something more culinarily creative like a stuffed eggplant dish was a swirl of pomegranate molasses. But in the middle of progressive Brooklyn in 2024, nothing? Having the pasta without the crab was underwhelming, and it was salty to boot. Loved the atmosphere, and my cocktail was very good. Enjoyed the sauteed apples, and I heard good things about the chicken schnitzel. But please add some kind of veggie entree!

T
Tim J

The pastries at Otway are so good! The breakfast dishes are delicious and fairly priced. I returned for dinner last week and I was shocked by how small the chicken was for $28. I was expecting maybe a half chicken for that price, but it was only a small breast. I was offended by the size for the price. For that reason I'll probably avoid Otway for dinner but I'll keep coming back for breakfast / brunch. Great ambiance and atmosphere. Stellar service as well.

I’d seen some of the other reviews from the past few months and wanted to see for myself if Otway had gone downhill. Maybe other people had just gone on an off night? We had the opposite experience. Our server was friendly and attentive. She gave us pours of wine to taste, and let us order some appetizers before coming back for our mains. The cabbage was excellent and the duck wings were particularly delicious. The chef came out and talked to us about his preparation for the wings, which are newer on the menu. Burgers came out perfect, as were the fries. I’ve said this before but the Otway burger is one of the best in Brooklyn. I’ve had many, including the Emily’s burger across the street and I prefer Otway’s 100%. Service and food were great, but the only thing off was that the restaurant was almost completely empty. I’m assuming it’s probably because of the negative reviews and poor service mentioned here. Good service goes a long way, and hopefully the management has taken care of the host/server that everyone seems to be referring to in these reviews. Bad service can make or break an establishment. It would be a shame to see such a cute and creative restaurant shutter because of one bad apple.

Rose Quartz Crystal tea spoon... too cute, and yes the food was good too. The service and food was delicious and delightful. Beautiful Environment, Organic, Vegetarian, Deliciousness, Kindness and Cleanliness are all keys for me when picking a place to eat. Otway has nearly all of these. Thanks for the hospitality. One missing for me...I would like to see more organic options maked on you menu or some how communicated. I found out at the end of my meal by asking... I may have chosen a different meal had I known. What I eat was good either way. I had to ask and to my surprise, you all have a lot of things that are organic or sustainably sourced (like your wines, which I will be back to try). I wanted the waffle and it was 86 on the waffles the day I went. So you get a 4 stars, for the 86 on the waffles. - @GoddessProsper

Brunch = ** Date night/drink spot = ***** The $4 avocado that ruined everything.... So my boyfriend took me here on our first date and we had the best time ever. Stayed over two hours. Excellent wines and apps. Beautiful space. Led to a relationship. Fast forward 7 months later, I’m now living in SF but back in BK visiting him for the holidays. So we decide to try for brunch. MEGA disappointment. $20 for their 2 egg breakfast with a side of avocado. Toast rock hard. Eggs cooked wrong. Bacon and potatoes over cooked. Fine not the best, could have dealt. But... ...the small half of avocado served had black rotten spots and strings throughout. They did not even bother removing as there wouldn’t have been anything left. They did sprinkle it with sea salt, maybe hoping we wouldn’t notice. If I’m willing to pay $4 for a tiny portion of avocado, then I’m expecting it to be fricken perfect. My boyfriend’s egg sandwich was okay and the coffee was decent. Too many cheaper and amazing places in the neighborhood to f/w it again.

Food was good to decent, blueberry tart tasted like cheese whiz. Cocktails were great and the space was beautiful. Was hoping to like this place more, may come back but overall didn't meet expectations.

food was great -- but service was framed like we were lucky to be there. we ordered 1/2 dozen oysters and were informed they were out.. fine. But then 5 minutes they surprisingly arrived to our delight -- however while waiting on our party member to return from the bathroom (about 3/4 minutes later) another server swooped in and said --- SORRY these oysters are NOT FOR YOU (just like that I swear). Grabbed them and served them to a table a couple rows down. We thought it was a joke a first -- but it wasn't. Our server apologized for the mix up -- jut genuinely didn't seem to care. Our party didn't eat any of the oysters -- but we did pick them up to inspect while awaiting our friend. I would assume this bad practice in any restaurant (to reserve food) -- but it was done on a busy Saturday night. I didn't mind too much -- but most restaunts from my experience would have comp'd us a dessert or at least expressed some sympathy. I will go back as this is one of the better spots in bed sty / clinton hill-- but definitely think there is room for improvement.

The breakfast tastes good but is overpriced. Literally eggs, bread, and potatoes for $16; plus the bacon was hard as a piece of wood - I can make that at home. Also, really slow service. Other than that, nice atmosphere.

Beautiful room, friendly staff, tasty salad. Steak is the size of a child's hamburger. Perhaps 6oz. Costs $40.

After eating their neck claim bread, I don’t have to worry about my sodium intake for weeks 🙂

I've given this place a couple of tries for breakfast and dinner and have some thoughts to share on my experiences. Their coffee and pastries are great, I will continue going to the bakery for those every now and again, but my recent visits with the restaurant itself were subpar. The breakfast I had was a disappointment. I had ordered it before, months ago, and didn't really care for it much then, but decided to go with it again in hopes that maybe it had changed. I got the Deluxe Breakfast, which is 2 eggs, crispy potatoes, toast, and a side. The eggs were okay, but the potatoes were just way too dry and bland. They were not enjoyable to ingest. Toast was ok and the sides we chose (avocado and bacon) were fine. But for $16, I make a way better breakfast at home. The egg sandwich however, is great! I have had that a couple times and have never been disappointed. Then for dinner, everything my friend and I had ordered was overly salty. That included the chicken liver mousse, and then a chicken dish and a fried chicken sandwich which I don't believe are on their current menu. The oysters were OK. We weren't impressed with the anchovy toast - the fish to bread ratio was off. The atmosphere in the restaurant is GREAT and if you're just going for oysters and drinks, it's definitely a cute spot to hang out in. I haven't tried everything on their menus (clearly) so maybe some other dishes are good, but I just wanted to write this review in hopes that maybe these things can be taken into account for improvement.

Food at otway is always so yummy, but why do the staff make you feel like they hate you for being there?

Service here is needlessly passive aggressive and rushed us when nobody was waiting for tables. Breakfast menu is unremarkable and the food is decent. Cute room. Won't be back.

Overall, this experience was a disappointment. As new parents, my wife and I were on a rare night out without the baby. The meal immediately started off on the wrong foot. After we ordered a couple appetizers and told the waiter we wanted to spend some time thinking about our entrees, the waiter came back from the kitchen to tell us that the Chef wants to know our full order and didn't want to do just the appetizers. In other words, the Chef wanted to rush us. This is shockingly unacceptable for even the lowliest restaurant. I have worked as a waiter in a lot of restaurants, and I could not fathom the chef or myself saying anything to a guest that would make them feel rushed. It's bad for business, as indicated by this review and the fact that we will not return. The food was also pretty bad. One of dishes we ordered was the uni (sea urchin) crepe. Clearly, it was rancid. I have never tasted anything so foul in my whole life. We told the waiter, who took back the dish. BUT WE WERE STILL CHARGED FOR IT. Again, I have had a lot of restaurant experience and when you're paying the kind of prices that Otway charges, you take the dish off the bill no questions asked. Also, we asked the waiter about the dish before we ordered it and he didn't say anthing about a "strong" flavor. When we said we didn't like it, he said it was a "polarizing" dish. I know the dish was rancid. But even if it wasn't, the waiter should have said the dish was "polarizing" before we ordered it. Lastly, the drinks were boring. I ordered some margarita-like cocktail and it tasted like someone sapped it of flavor. It was muted and uneventful. The service was bad. The food quality was clearly bad, as demonstrated by the rancid dish. And the cocktails are lackluster.

- Late seating (with reservation) - Cold food - Overpriced food and drinks - Tiny portions (The “cheese plate” was a single piece of cheese less than half an inch wide) - Weird flavors and textures We came here for new years’ eve and had the prix fixe menu at $75 a piece (not including drinks). Now I know it’s a prix fixe so they are trying to simplify things in the kitchen and turn a profit but we got very little food and ALL OF IT CAME OUT COLD including the tenderloin and fish entrees. We let our server know and they took all of our entrees back and they brought them back out still cold! They gave us some prosecco when I asked if there was anything they could do for us but we ended up paying $130+ per person and went home hungry. It’s frustrating because the atmosphere was charming and our waiter tried. I have never paid more for less food. All they had to do to make our night amazing was feed us something warm, well seasoned, and filling.

disappointing experience. they were sold out of nearly all seafood. service was pretty darn bad with plates hitting the table at strange times and being told quite a long time after ordering that they were out of one of the appetizers…and then a few mins later that they were out of the entree that we ordered at the same time—on top of a pretty unfriendly vibe from the server. the entrees were the same size as the apps & were underseasoned.

I got a coffee and I put a milk at 12:00 on 12/30. The milk was old and didn’t mix well. So, I asked the guy to change them but he refused. He said just mixed it. I’ve never had this experience in other cafe. They always changed and gave me a new coffee. I feel very bad. I don’t want to think this is racism, but I feel that way. Low service employees.

I personally would never go back. The service is awful. They also kicked us off the table at exactly 60 minutes after our reservation with no warning and after we ordered more coffee. The coffee had not even come yet and they didn’t tell us when we ordered the extra coffee. They told us they would bring it in a to go cup suddenly. They said they only permit you to use their table for 1 hour. That is unheard of in New York. It’s always 90 minutes and restaurants that have proper management tell you when they seat you not after they ask you to order more drinks. The food was average at best and the server barely comes by to ask if you need anything else.

This place is backwards. The back of house staff is talented and friendly while the front of house seems determined to make you miserable. I used to come often, but the last several times, the staff has been so radically rude I thought I might be on a hidden camera show. Too late for me, but I hope Otway can be saved.

I really wanted to love and support Otway. I have eaten here and the presentation and facade is so wonderful, but unfortunately the service and treatment of customers is deeply disappointing. I spent a couple hundred dollars supporting the bakery's Kickstarter campaign to launch. The promised thank you was a brunch for 4. I never received the brunch, so I reached out to Otway by phone and email. After a few emails, I was told certificates were mailed out. I said I have not received mine, but since then I have not received any response despite multiple emails and calls. I would be happy to update this once rectified, but in my eyes, any restaurant that is so disrespectful to its initial backers deserves a poor review.

Dreadful disappointment. Maybe they're good to regulars. My fish was saltier than the ocean and fishier too. After a few bites we returned the fish and oddly it appeared on the bill. The waiter, a nice fellow, told me the chef tasted it and said it was good. Must be me. No owning the salty fishy taste. Now that's SALTY behavior. Love tasting new flavors. Go to Olmsted or Wildair or wherever...forget about this unless you need more Salty in your life. Plenty here...

We came in today as a threesome and 3/4s of the tables were empty. We asked if we could sit in the booth and we were denied. We live in the neighborhood and are regulars at Otway and find it so disappointing that we denied our choice of seating in an almost empty restaurant. Long story short we left and went elsewhere. My rating on the staff hospitality today is a big zero!

The food was extremely delicious but the sommelier needs to be fired. We arrived on time with an extra friend and she made a scene out of it. People who don’t have passion for serving should work in a different industry. Sorry, but this is NYC.

The food was solid, but the service specifically from the host was abysmal. Our server however was welcoming, friendly and accommodating. As a group of queer predominantly black people we felt unwelcome immediately and were rushed to leave just after closing. As we were leaving the host was gossiping about our group, pretty horrible. On top of that the food was nothing to write home about, not as though that could excuse the horrendous behavior of the host.

I’ve been a fan of Otway for many years, the food is delicious and the atmosphere is lovely. However we recently had a terrible customer service experience that I feel compelled to share. Our server was impatient, aggressive and made us feel very uncomfortable. We made a reservation ten days out from our booking, but as we arrived to a nearly empty restaurant we were immediately told that we had a hard out an hour and 15 minutes from arrival. Throughout service we were reminded multiple times that we were going to have to leave. I understand that tables need to be turned but an otherwise nice meal was truly ruined by the overbearing and aggressive attitude of the front of house.

Fabulous food but never in my life have I ever had such an inhospitable host. We arrived with 1 extra guest for a late seating. I was told our table “could not accommodate 6” when it obviously could, if we were willing to squeeze. She then had the gall to tell me “good luck” after she begrudgingly put an extra place setting out. This place is not a cheap restaurant, but her attitude surely was. It’s a shame, I’m not going back.

I’m so sad I recently moved to the city and wanted to try this place that is close to me. The drinks were great, music was good and service was okay but my burger was completely not edible because it was freezer burn. I ended up leaving the entire burger behind because it made me sick after one bite. If you go to this place be cautious about the food.

Cute average Brooklyn dining spot. Our experience was marred by the extremely rude attitude of the female server/receptionist. When we requested our dish to be cooked a bit more, she ignored the request, seemed annoyed and snatched the plate, causing some of the food to spill. The kitchen seemed to have trouble understanding our simple request, leading to the dish going back and forth twice. I've never encountered such a lack of basic hospitality. Given the abundance of other dining options in the area that offer both delicious food and excellent service,we will not be returning to this place.
