We had such a lovely time at Otway! The food was incredibly delicious, but what really made the evening special was Miranda..She took care of us, she was warm, kind, and genuinely thoughtful. Her recommendations were spot-on, and thanks to her we got to try some amazing dishes. The chef was also super friendly, creating such a welcoming atmosphere. We’ll definitely be coming back!
Walked in an hour before closing last night and had an incredible experience. We were seated & ordered right away, the food came quickly and everything was top-notch. The natural wine & ramp cocktail both delicious, the bread is as great as everyone says. We also got crudo, cucumber salad, ravioli, and trout and the summer corn panna cotta. Service & ambiance were lovely. Thank you, we will be back!
This place was amazing. Snow pea white negroni was next level. The pilsner was great. Split the burger w my friends and it was amazing. Strong flavors put together delicately. This profile continued for the other dishes: Duck wings with the Chef's Mom sauce, a simple, tangy Thai fish sauce and Rabbit ragu pasta. I don't like duck or rabbit but these dishes converted me. No lie! The bartender was lovely and chill and we talked to the chefs also. They took over the menu about a year ago and are doing amazing things. Every dish was elevated without trying to show off. I don't understand why this isn't a hot spot but I'm going back and you should go, too. Their sister bakery down the block is killing it too, I hear. Thank you guys! See you soon!
The experience at Otway is absolutely phenomenal. Everything from the service to each individual bite was perfect. Miranda and Aly were amazing, treated us so well and were spot on with their suggestions. Nick the chef was also a star and came to talk to us about the cambodian influence on the duck wings that were so, so good. Don’t sleep on the pickled cabbage with shrimp powder. Definitely coming back and recommending to everybody!
Came here for breakfast and it did not disappoint. Everything was very delicious. We made reservations but there were actually plenty of tables available for a Saturday morning. The egg sandwich with scallions was so delicious. The flavors were perfect and the bread was amazingly fluffy. The cardamom bun is also really good! Their separate bakery is just a few doors down.
First; the bread is next level. 6 stars for the bread. And overall this is a good restaurant that’s mostly hits but has a few details I would change. This was almost a 4 for me, but I’m swaying in the 4.5-4.6 direction so full 5 star credit is granted. The drinks are quite good and the Tepeche is something I haven’t seen before! It’s a mild pineapple kombucha; super tasty. The margarita was also top notch, not overly sweet. These are from a well considered bar. The bread is life changing. The butter is perfect. Why have dinner after? Just get a loaf. In all seriousness it was a generous portion of amazing sourdough and it changed my life and became my friend for just a moment. The melon is far too simple of a dish and needs to be portioned differently and come with some other flavors in tow. It’s just a slice of cantaloupe and salt; so this was a let down after the divine bread. We found the burger and desert to be spectacular (that’s strawberries and cream), although the cream leans into feeling a bit oily and the dish could have been slightly colder. The steak was another slight miss. It was good but for the price point ($40+), I need to see something really amazing to not feel out of sync here. Meat was slightly dry, could have been more tender. Nothing much to say about its flavor and it wanted to be part of the sauce but was plated oddly and separately… sort of inviting you not to mix them. The accompaniments were ok, a little too much salt forward-ness in the mushroom marmalade. But it was tasty overall: would rather have had 2 burgers. Fries were on point and well cooked. A lot of unique savory notes in the burger that put it a cut above competitors. I know it feels like I’m roasting this place, but I’ve been to restaurants at every price so I have hundreds of points of context for this review. It’s a top 50 in Brooklyn, brunch is awesome here apparently, but it’s not in my top 10-20, roughly. Anyway; that’s the review. Thanks for reading! Enjoy!
Came in for work related purposes and was delighted by the ambiance and super kind server. Had a pumpkin pecan cake slice and it was the best I’ve ever had. I was reluctant to try it at first because I’m not a nuts kind of girl but did anyway and I ate every bit of cake and nut there was and wanted more. It was a perfect balance of sweet and yummy! The vibe is super chill and relaxing!
Cute little French-adjacent place for dinner or drinks. Go M-F 5:30-7:30 for LE BINGE: happy hour pricing on drinks & $15 for a dozen oysters. Great ambiance and food overall but be aware: It’s a very small space (read: hard to maneuver in) and not every cocktail is subject to happy hour pricing.
Went for Sunday brunch. Chic decor, open, sunny, intimate. Coffee was hot and delicious, bright, slightly acidic, yet with some body. Their fresh baked bread is to die for and the French cheese starter was light, creamy, and magnifique. For the main dish I had the omelette—simple, cheesy, soft, and tasty. Staff were welcoming and friendly. And for dessert a chocolate plum cookie, rich and decadent. What a wonderful experience and lovely Brooklyn gem.
Chicken sandwich was pretty nice and the fries were goood. The onleyte and sourdough wasn’t worth ur tho
Rose Quartz Crystal tea spoon... too cute, and yes the food was good too. The service and food was delicious and delightful. Beautiful Environment, Organic, Vegetarian, Deliciousness, Kindness and Cleanliness are all keys for me when picking a place to eat. Otway has nearly all of these. Thanks for the hospitality. One missing for me...I would like to see more organic options maked on you menu or some how communicated. I found out at the end of my meal by asking... I may have chosen a different meal had I known. What I eat was good either way. I had to ask and to my surprise, you all have a lot of things that are organic or sustainably sourced (like your wines, which I will be back to try). I wanted the waffle and it was 86 on the waffles the day I went. So you get a 4 stars, for the 86 on the waffles. - @GoddessProsper
disappointing experience. they were sold out of nearly all seafood. service was pretty darn bad with plates hitting the table at strange times and being told quite a long time after ordering that they were out of one of the appetizers…and then a few mins later that they were out of the entree that we ordered at the same time—on top of a pretty unfriendly vibe from the server. the entrees were the same size as the apps & were underseasoned.
I’m so sad I recently moved to the city and wanted to try this place that is close to me. The drinks were great, music was good and service was okay but my burger was completely not edible because it was freezer burn. I ended up leaving the entire burger behind because it made me sick after one bite. If you go to this place be cautious about the food.
Cute average Brooklyn dining spot. Our experience was marred by the extremely rude attitude of the female server/receptionist. When we requested our dish to be cooked a bit more, she ignored the request, seemed annoyed and snatched the plate, causing some of the food to spill. The kitchen seemed to have trouble understanding our simple request, leading to the dish going back and forth twice. I've never encountered such a lack of basic hospitality. Given the abundance of other dining options in the area that offer both delicious food and excellent service,we will not be returning to this place.
