Ordered catering for a work event of 40 via Poppy’s and it was incredible! The food was delicious, healthy, fresh, and beautifully arranged on serving platters - all we had to do was take off the lid. We were able to order everything we needed from them as a one stop shop - coffee, tea, cases of water, breakfast pastries, lunch, plates and utensils, cups — which made it so convenient for planning our day. Everyone was so helpful from Abe and Elle who helped tweak the plan & invoice to reflect our specific dietary needs to the driver / delivery person who was very friendly and helpful in unloading the food and setting it up. Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them to others for catering services for events large or small.
Dropped by on my regular Sunday morning excursion to local NYC cafes, and Poppy's did not disappoint. Their cappuccino is top-notch, recommend pairing it with their homemade lemon poppyseed loaf, which was the best I have ever had. The place can get really busy around 9:30am on a Sunday morning, so be prepared to wait a few minutes after you place your order. Would love this place even more if it had indoor seating (it's a small shop), but I definitely intend to come back to enjoy some more of their menu in their outdoor seating area.
Lemon poppy semolina loaf was the star. Great texture and flavour. The coriander clementine bun was a bit too sugary and not enough of the other flavours. They don’t have decaf espresso which was a bummer. Ambiance is really nice and the sandwiches looked delicious so would come back for those.
Another of what I would call « western ideology of good individual ingredients, poor overall combination and attention to detail ». The biscuit, bacon, sauce, eggs were all very well made on their own, but the sandwich was unenjoyable as a whole. The sandwich was way too big to eat as-is (I have a large mouth), and even after taking the top biscuit off, the biscuit to filling ratio was too high. Even the very nice flaky salt was sprinkled in a single spot instead of evenly over the biscuit, resulting in at least one overly salty bite for no good reason :(
pricier but not better than other cafes in the neighborhood. Inconsistent drinks, lids always leak, specials are just ok. Waits can be long during morning rush and lines out the door bc the inside is very small. Used to be good deal for their breakfast club coffee subscription but got discontinued. On a quiet street so can be pleasant to sit outside when the weather is nice though the nice outdoor seating has also been dismantled and it’s unclear if it’ll be back after winter ends. When it’s not packed, can be nice to browse various trendy home goods. Vibe of customer is what you’d expect, yuppy Aime Leon Dore millennials who probably aren’t very price sensitive lol
I really wanted to love this cafe as it seemed like such a cute neighborhood spot. Sadly, the overall experience fell short. The cafe itself was small and featured a culinary boutique with specialty items. The aesthetic was super cute. The only seating was outdoors; once you placed your order they called your drinks at the bar as they were made, but brought the food out to you. We tried some pastries which were quite good. I ordered the egg sandwich which either came on a biscuit or brioche. I opted for the brioche, which was actually brioche toast, and tasted like a regular egg sandwich. I could have switched it to the biscuit, but by the time I was informed of that possibility, I had already taken a few bites and didn't feel like wasting food. I also ordered a cardamom maple latte, which was the special. They use Black Fox Coffee (which is one of my favorites) but unfortunately the latte fell short because the syrup they used was way too sweet (I had asked for half the amount but I think they forgot and put in the full amount). The biggest turnoff for me was the price. For 2 pastries, the egg sandwich, and the latte I paid just shy of $40, which is a lot especially since the sandwich and coffee were so underwhelming.
The have good pastries and coffee but nothing out of this world. I came here with high hopes and they didn’t deliver. My favorite desert is the lemon poppyseed loaf, the rest of the staff is rather bland. They have intriguing soups and salads but nothing extraordinary. They also have some outdoor seating, a ting bathroom, but no wifi or outlets. Much more of a fast casual vibe. I came here two times and the girls working at the counter seemed miserable, the second time they were much better although one seemed rather unhappy. Nothing remarkable in short but worth a trip if hungry and nearby.
This place used to be my go-to for Too Good To Go. The food was great and the quantity generous (at $10 per bag, mind you). I've visited 3 times in the past week. 2 out of those 3 I received utterly abysmal bags, with today's bag containing 3 buttermilk biscuits. That's it. I mentioned to the employee that the bag was a bit light by their usual standard; her reply was "our bags are pretty full compared to everyone else's". She slammed the door behind me. I'm left feeling employees are picking through TGTG bags, keeping what they want, and screwing over the customer. Needless to say I won't be coming back.
