i will be dreaming about how delicious that egg and cheese sandwich was ….forever. my gf will also be hearing about it forever
Walk over the Brooklyn Bridge to this little gem and you'll have earned the delicious breakfast pastries and delights! Limited seating outside so be prepared to wait or grab and go!
Such a good spot to pick up a quick bite and caffeine! Everything was delicious, so well made with good, fresh ingredients.
I had their gluten free carrot cake I gobbled it down so fast I didn’t get a picture. Would return and recommend.
Fav spot to enjoy coffee in the sun. The focaccia and baked treats are also great.
Love this neighborhood gem…. Perfect for quick breakfast. Great outdoor space
Our favorite spot to visit on a weekend morning. The drinks and food are all top-notch, and you feel the community at Poppy's.
Really friendly staff that answered all my questions. Coffee was good, cake was good, and I will definitely come back if I’m in the area.
Best cafe in the area. Friendly staff, good atmosphere, and the best food and drink.
I love this place. Great coffee, excellent desserts and scones, and elegantly curated groceries and goods.
I drove from Sag Harbor for the amazing biscuits and scones All the pastries are beyond and worth the drive !!
Five. F’ing. Stars. There’s not an item on the menu that’s not perfect. The chocolate chip cookies are second to no food product anywhere on earth.
Poppy's catering was incredibly delicious, the presentation was beautiful, and it was delivered within the time slot we selected.
Knowledgeable + courteous staff! Ordered a latte & poppyseed loaf this morning. The poppyseed loaf was DELICIOUS!
Perfect charming neighborhood spot for breakfast or lunch to go. Every single baked good is incredible and my favorite savory items are the breakfast grits and tacos. Their roast chicken is a staple in our house every week.
Do you like butter? Do you like fluffy? Do you like biscuits!?!? Need I say more? By far the best biscuits I’ve had in a very long time. Cheers to the bakers of Poppy’s who gave me so much happiness today.
I have used Poppy's 3 times now for high-profile meetings with executives across all industries and it's always a huge hit. Not only is the food exquisite, but the presentation they set up is amazing (very fresh and adds an element of elegant organic to the room). As an added bonus, they're always on time and are some of the nicest vendors you'll ever work with!
Fast and friendly service! Latte was on the heavy on foam and was leftover from previous person’s cappuccino order, but it was still good.
The best chocolate chip cookie I have ever had in my life (!!) + dozens of other delicious pastries. Also had a great cold brew! Love this place
Big fan of this place. Particularly love their maple cardamom latte, but their pastries and sandwiches, like the chicken cutlet or mozzarella artichoke, are standout, too!
AMAZING. Delicious food, beautifully presented. I catered a cocktail party for ~25 people with Poppy's and everyone raved about the food and desserts. Definitely will use them again!!
Poppy's catering and kitchen is a beacon of light in Cobble Hill, Brooklyn. When I'm in the neighborhood their regular weekend Pop-Up shops are just amazing. With friendly staff, a seasonal menu, and locally sourced ingredients galore. Be sure to get yourself some of the Salted Chocolate Chip Cookies when you go.
Lovely local bakery with delicious pastries, sweets and coffee. No indoor seating unfortunately but a nice outdoor patio covered patio with greenery (no heaters).
Amazing pastries, and great variety of coffees I was there on Sunday and was super busy i recommend order online right now on fall season they have an amazing pumpkin cake
So nice to see a small business (not a big corporate chain) that understands New Yorkers who are too busy to be on top of cooking and grocery shopping. I go here when I need something new, exciting, and healthy to add to dinner (soups, dips, salads, treats, olive oil, + so much more). They also make great platters to order for a party (and you know NYers love to party!). Thank you for all you do Poppy's!
I’ll start with the only con, the line. It was very long and very slow. There is mitigation though, online ordering, which I will use going forward. The food was very delicious. We tried hot chai tea, coffee cake, frittata, and biscuit sandwich. All super fresh and tasty. My favorite items were the frittata and biscuit, in that order. It was our first visit, but definitely won’t be our last.
The egg sandwich is to die for, but you have to commit once you pick it up. Also, the cardamom coffee cake was the perfect pair.
We hired Poppy's to cater our wedding and it was the best decision we could have made. They did a flawless job, the food was perfect, and our guests raved. The staff was professional and executed an incredible evening. We can't say enough good things about Poppy's!
I’ve only had the biscuit(salty and light), scone(dense and buttery) and chocolate chip cookie(an adult chocolate chip cookie not too sweet) but all were great. The girl who helped me was nice and efficient at moving the line along. Definitely worth stopping by again one day for lunch
they could never make me hate you!!! the lil chick sandwich and the iced vanilla latte are my go-tos, but the pastries are delightful too. I love the little market as well, perfect place for an easy hostess gift. yes, it's expensive, but they're using good ingredients, and that's not cheap.if u want a $5 egg sandwich with a side of pesticides, go to mcdonalds ;)
Great food, but service can be slow if you order anything outside the baked goods. One request to owners would be a no laptop policy during the breakfast and lunch rush - there are lots of tables but rarely anywhere to sit between the WFH crowd nursing one drink for hours.
One of my fave neighborhood spots! Coffee is 10/10. Many cute things on display for gifts etc.
Love poppy’s. Had them cater for my baby shower which I held outdoors on a rooftop and everything was excellent and seamless. I ordered about 2 weeks in advance and set a window for a pick up time (they also deliver but for a fee). Everything was ready when my husband arrived. Was packaged beautifully, and everything was so good + more importantly held up super well despite sitting out for a few hours. I will definitely be using them for catering again. Also, on Friday and weekends, they have the best breakfast sandwich available in the store.
Poppy's catered our wedding and we truly could not have been more thrilled. From the very beginning, Poppy's staff was kind, generous, and thoughtful, from tasting to the day of. Building a menu for the evening was fun and collaborative--we felt listened to and accommodated the entire time. All of our guests raved about the food and drinks, plus the service was some of the best we've ever had at a wedding! Marci and her team made sure our day ran smoothly and perfectly. And as if that were not enough, the staff took special care of a relative with special needs to ensure she had everything she needed all night long. They were worth every penny. Can't recommend them highly enough!
Been coming here regularly for nearly 5 years now and it only gets better. Always using the best quality ingredients that are seasonal and local. So many out of this world baked goods as well as finger-licking good specialty sandwiches. Menu changes weekly with constantly evolving culinary virtuosity, but some of the staples are worth the trip every time. If you arrive after 10am be ready to wait in line, but it will be worth the wait guaranteed.
If every cafe made their baked goods and prepared meals with this much love and respect for refined palates I would be broke and over fed. Thank you Poppy’s for making the perfect rhubarb scone (buttery slightly salted and just the right amount of sweet,) a biscuit people dream of, and roasted chicken that soars above the rest. Renaissance painting worthy flowers for sale in the windows, and La Newyorkina pops in freezer, plus myriad more items I always want to bring home, make me wish you were right around the corner from me. In the meanwhile I’ll travel to you for my fix. (Oh! Only improvement would be decaf espresso. Bc I’m a caffeine free freak these days.) Love you Poppy’s!
Ordered catering for a work event of 40 via Poppy’s and it was incredible! The food was delicious, healthy, fresh, and beautifully arranged on serving platters - all we had to do was take off the lid. We were able to order everything we needed from them as a one stop shop - coffee, tea, cases of water, breakfast pastries, lunch, plates and utensils, cups — which made it so convenient for planning our day. Everyone was so helpful from Abe and Elle who helped tweak the plan & invoice to reflect our specific dietary needs to the driver / delivery person who was very friendly and helpful in unloading the food and setting it up. Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them to others for catering services for events large or small.
Dropped by on my regular Sunday morning excursion to local NYC cafes, and Poppy's did not disappoint. Their cappuccino is top-notch, recommend pairing it with their homemade lemon poppyseed loaf, which was the best I have ever had. The place can get really busy around 9:30am on a Sunday morning, so be prepared to wait a few minutes after you place your order. Would love this place even more if it had indoor seating (it's a small shop), but I definitely intend to come back to enjoy some more of their menu in their outdoor seating area.
Good coffee and service. Unfortunately no heating at their outside tables though, and no indoor seating available. Dress warmly!
Their Cardamom Pecan Coffee Cake is probably the best coffee cake I’ve ever had.
It's a shame that the parklet is now gone, really felt like a community resource and now it's just a parking space for a single private car.
Amazing Bakery. Great salads. Ideal place for takeout. Seating is limited and terribly thought out.
I like their cold brew and their strawberry-vanilla cream filled choux pastry. The choux pastry specifically is $8 which in retrospect is probably too expensive. I did really enjoy it though!
I had their salted chocolate chip cookie and cauliflower tomato frittata, which were tasty! So if you’re in the area, I recommend, however, I wouldn’t make a specific trip to Brooklyn just for them.
I absolutely love Poppy's! Great to have as a neighborhood spot. The must try's are the breakfast biscuit sandwich and literally any of the pastries. Grab a spot outside in their slightly heated seating area (our pup loves it here too). Local tip* Get there early on weekends, they'll sell out of most things!
The egg Sandwich biscuits here are unbelievable. They have salt flakes on them and onion jam and it may sound odd but they are a must try! 4 stars because their drip coffee is terrible! I’ll keep going back for the sandwhiches but someone has to fix the drip coffee. It tastes like mud.
Great but everything is a bit salty!!! Just eating the soba noodles and my tongue is on fire. Same w the chicken salad. Would be great if you could cut down on the salt
Amazing bakery, first time in the dumbo location, as I frequent the one in cobble hill. The female employee with the bandana has a huge attitude problem, like seriously if you work in customer service don’t act so miserable & rude to you customers 🤮 as a local I feel bad for how she must be treating the tourists around there.
Latte was very light, sour and watered down. I feel this is the case with most cafes, but this little place is charming,it’s unfortunate there is no indoor seating. Probably the most delicious chocolate chip cookie you will ever have. Coming back for more !
Poppy's is a very nice establishment. On each occasion we have purchased food at Poppy's the staff has been quick, efficient and extremely polite. Our favorites are their biscuit sandwiches and their Chicken Cutlet sandwich. They have very tasty coffee cake that is great for breakfast or a snack with your coffee or tea. Prices are fair considering they are in a classic Cobble Hill Brooklyn neighborhood. Check out their online menu. You will find several baked and fresh made delights.
It's a good thing that I don't live in this neighborhood- otherwise, I would be tempted to spend a lot more money at Poppy's, on their delicious food! Fortunately, I have been able to visit on several occasions for take out lunch, and have been impressed by all that I have had. Poppy's intentional sensibility is at its strongest with their use of seasonal ingredients- made into sandwiches, salads, soups and desserts that burst with fresh flavor.
Poppy’s does it well! From baked goods, to fresh plates, prepared foods, and pantry items everything is top quality. They have a beautiful interior. I gave them 4 stars because as someone with a gluten allergy there isn’t always something here for me besides brownies and lemon bars. I would love to find a savory gluten free baked good here or a regular Gf muffin. Thanks 🙏
Lemon poppy semolina loaf was the star. Great texture and flavour. The coriander clementine bun was a bit too sugary and not enough of the other flavours. They don’t have decaf espresso which was a bummer. Ambiance is really nice and the sandwiches looked delicious so would come back for those.
Pretty good but don’t order delivery from here bc they will always forget to put something from the order in there.
it’s ok. very expensive! food seems high quality but proportions don’t match the price compared to other cafes and sandwich places.
Cold brew was solid. Ordered the egg breakfast sando, between the taste of all those ingredients amounting to just.. egg, and an intentionally cold biscuit, I recommend passing. The cardamom bun slapped
Came for egg sandwiches at 2:15 on a Saturday and the kitchen was already closed? But they close at 4....got the cardamom coffee cake which was delicious, not too sweet. Boyfriend got the chicken cutlet sandwich which bland; had to drench it in hot sauce to give it some flavor.
I have always enjoyed the coffee and treats that I've gotten at Poppy's over the last few years and the employees are kind and efficient. However, they have an incredibly "cozy" indoor space and they seem to have no issue with people bringing their dogs inside to crowd among the people trying to order. I'm a bit nervous around dogs in such a small space so I've begun patronizing other cafes in the area ahead of Poppy's.
Coffee at $4: It's not Fair Trade and was just okay. Loved the people I met while sitting there. Delicious scone. "By choosing Fairtrade certified coffee, you know that the beans are grown using our rigorous standards, which support farmers and their communities and help protect the environment."
Another of what I would call « western ideology of good individual ingredients, poor overall combination and attention to detail ». The biscuit, bacon, sauce, eggs were all very well made on their own, but the sandwich was unenjoyable as a whole. The sandwich was way too big to eat as-is (I have a large mouth), and even after taking the top biscuit off, the biscuit to filling ratio was too high. Even the very nice flaky salt was sprinkled in a single spot instead of evenly over the biscuit, resulting in at least one overly salty bite for no good reason :(
pricier but not better than other cafes in the neighborhood. Inconsistent drinks, lids always leak, specials are just ok. Waits can be long during morning rush and lines out the door bc the inside is very small. Used to be good deal for their breakfast club coffee subscription but got discontinued. On a quiet street so can be pleasant to sit outside when the weather is nice though the nice outdoor seating has also been dismantled and it’s unclear if it’ll be back after winter ends. When it’s not packed, can be nice to browse various trendy home goods. Vibe of customer is what you’d expect, yuppy Aime Leon Dore millennials who probably aren’t very price sensitive lol
I really wanted to love this cafe as it seemed like such a cute neighborhood spot. Sadly, the overall experience fell short. The cafe itself was small and featured a culinary boutique with specialty items. The aesthetic was super cute. The only seating was outdoors; once you placed your order they called your drinks at the bar as they were made, but brought the food out to you. We tried some pastries which were quite good. I ordered the egg sandwich which either came on a biscuit or brioche. I opted for the brioche, which was actually brioche toast, and tasted like a regular egg sandwich. I could have switched it to the biscuit, but by the time I was informed of that possibility, I had already taken a few bites and didn't feel like wasting food. I also ordered a cardamom maple latte, which was the special. They use Black Fox Coffee (which is one of my favorites) but unfortunately the latte fell short because the syrup they used was way too sweet (I had asked for half the amount but I think they forgot and put in the full amount). The biggest turnoff for me was the price. For 2 pastries, the egg sandwich, and the latte I paid just shy of $40, which is a lot especially since the sandwich and coffee were so underwhelming.
The have good pastries and coffee but nothing out of this world. I came here with high hopes and they didn’t deliver. My favorite desert is the lemon poppyseed loaf, the rest of the staff is rather bland. They have intriguing soups and salads but nothing extraordinary. They also have some outdoor seating, a ting bathroom, but no wifi or outlets. Much more of a fast casual vibe. I came here two times and the girls working at the counter seemed miserable, the second time they were much better although one seemed rather unhappy. Nothing remarkable in short but worth a trip if hungry and nearby.
Coffee was good, my cake slice was hard and cold though and the egg biscuit sandwich is just not good. I can’t believe Maggie Gyllenhall loves this place
This is my 3rd and last time eating here unfortunately. The food is good, but the customer service should improve. They are not the kindest.
I had a chicken cutlet sandwhich that was undercooked (it was pink), it did not have much flavor to it at all, the focaccia was good but very greasy. This $17 sandwhich is not worth the price…
PLEASE GET NEW LIDS FOR YOUR PLASTIC CUPS… I don’t like wearing my drinks!!! The lids constantly drop a bunch of the drink on the seal making stains on your clothes.
The two men who work there are extremely rude and it makes me never want to go back. It’s also overpriced
Original review 5 stars a year ago: Please consider not giving takeaway packaging for dine-in customers :) New review: Had to change my review. Standards have slipped in both coffee and food to a point where I don’t recognise. Customer service experience was final straw. British guy working was shook when I ordered an iced latte. Like gave me weird mean attitude for ordering a coffee at a place that sells coffee haha. He didn’t know what he was doing also and extracted espresso shot in mere seconds. He spoke harshly to elderly lady for asking him a question, didn’t greet people back, just barks at us with a scorned victim look. I was an ambassador for poppys, even bought merch. But it’s clear they now treat their supporters with contempt.
Nah. Not worth it. Would rather spend my money at Byclio, similar concept of fresh products without pretentiousness. Had the lemon poppy loaf and it was so dense. If you are a person of color be prepared to get looked up and down. Not just by people behind the counter but by customers, even if it’s subtle.
This place used to be my go-to for Too Good To Go. The food was great and the quantity generous (at $10 per bag, mind you). I've visited 3 times in the past week. 2 out of those 3 I received utterly abysmal bags, with today's bag containing 3 buttermilk biscuits. That's it. I mentioned to the employee that the bag was a bit light by their usual standard; her reply was "our bags are pretty full compared to everyone else's". She slammed the door behind me. I'm left feeling employees are picking through TGTG bags, keeping what they want, and screwing over the customer. Needless to say I won't be coming back.
