The old Sportsman closed after 60 years or so. The Sportsman in Camarillo is owned & operated by the same family. Recommend the filet mignon, rack of lamb/chops and halibut is very good. You can't go wrong. Be sure to ask Jesse about his list of wines not on the main menu. He has a private stash he loves to share.

I was invited by friends to Thanksgiving lunch. There was a Thanksgiving menu with a wide selection of holiday fare from turkey with the works to prime rib. Delicious! I will go again.

Went for a birthday party and the seared Ahi was DELICIOUS! Onion rings were not greasy. Will go again.

This is the only restaurant in LA or Ventura counties that still makes excellent bacon wrapped Beef Tourndoes with the classic bernaise sauce!

Great restaurant. We went to dinner with some friends there recently. I had salmon, my husband had prime rib and the others had filet mignon. Every meal was excellent. And the bread they served before our meal.. yum!

Can't speak about the restaurant area but the bar was great and the food even better! Deb was on her own with an entire bar of patrons and was still rocking it. Our table enjoyed the happy hour from M-F until 7 and the full menu and the karaoke that happened on this Thursday (don't know if it's every Thursday). Our group of 6 called ahead to make sure there was room in the bar so we could watch the game and they Deb was all set up and ready for us. Definitely going back! Few weeks later- we went back to the restaurant side and it was great! We had 12 people and a baby and called ahead to make a reservation. They gave us a whole room to ourselves. It was a Sunday morning and we were the only people there. Nice, quiet place to have a family meal. Service was good and prices were reasonable.

Great food, great service, and the place was quiet but ready to rock and roll. Many areas in this place are for large parties.. Everyone was hooting and hollering during the televised football game. It was a good atmosphere to watch the football game and have a great New York Strip steak. Give the place a try....you will be happy that you did!

I stayed across the street at a hotel and came here for dinner one night, and was pleasantly surprised. The food was amazing and the atmosphere was super fun. There were people dancing at their table and a jukebox where we played several songs and the service was great! The owner walked by to every table and talked to everyone making us feel so welcomed. The hamburger and filet was very tasty and I would definitely come again!

Its a local family Restaurant with a full bar. Family owned it has the best soups ever. I would never eat "Navy Bean" soup. I was told to try it... it was amazing. I don't like french onion either, but their's is really good. Kim the bartender is awesome. Jesse (son) and Jenny (mom) are so nice and inviting.

We, three women of a certain age, treated ourselves to a special meal at a special historic restaurant. The place was busy and short of staff so we had a wait, but did get drinks and dinner. Drinks were generous and food was great. Orders were delicious and large and we had a great time. My first visit since the California Street venue was flooded and never reopened. I will go again.

What an awesome meal, on Saturday. I've been before, to The one in Ventura. The atmosphere was old School. Saw a big room where the bar is situated. We're seated promptly. The food prices were fair. Ordered rack of lamb and Tournado fillet. The sourdough bread was great. Caesar salad was very good! The plate had plenty of food, and the quality was easily tasted! The baked potato and veggies were a positive! The server, unfortunately I didn't catch her name, but she wore a Bolo tie (stringy rope tie) w a horse on it. Long straight hair, with a semi raspy voice. Mild sarcasm that was welcomed! This place reminded me of back when The Hungry Hunter and Alexander's (both in Ventura) were the places to go for a fine dining meal! The Bernaisse sauce hit the spot, as well! The manager, I believe was Asian, did check on us, to see if he could be of service. My left overs were thoroughly enjoyed the next day. The lamb was also, top Notch! I'm glad I cam here. I did have a promotion available. I'm glad I came! The taste on my Palate, is lasting and would easily return for another meal! Thank you very much!!!

Very good food, gigantic portions,I very rarely have to take food home but tonight my wife and I took THREE boxes. The ambiance is kinda blah but the food, selection, service and portion size were way above expectations. Not to mention immediate seating at 7:00 on a Friday night, unheard of... We are going back for breakfast 100%!

Sportsman Restaurant has a friendly staff and great menu with a good selection of food. It offers a full bar and nice selection of wines that pair well with their menu. Our lunch arrived shortly after ordering and it was hot and yummy! I would recommend the restaurant and plan on coming back again.

Glad we finally got a chance to give this place a shot. It was pretty empty but the service was very good and the food was wonderful ordered the pork chops and they were pretty much the best pork chops I’ve ever had. The bar area was really big and it looks like they can really throw a good party in there.

You really need to go on Thursdays for their Beef Stroganoff. It's better than Mom used to make!! 🤣 But seriously, it's probably the best I've ever had. They have both a cup or bowl. I order rice to pour it over as there aren't a lot of noodles, just the right amount!! All of their food is good but you definitely have to try the Beef Stroganoff! You won't regret it.

I travel all over America and this place is as Steak as you can get . Salad was cold ( yummy cold ) ... ohhhh The rolls here are addicting so be careful. Then the NY cut came out and I'll tell you this was perfectly cooked . Staff was working hard as they could to accommodate everyone . This is what a steak restaurant is all about .

Love this restaurant and bar. Had a chance to bring my kids for the Thanksgiving dinner and had Reservations for 3pm. The food was on point and the service was excellent as usual. I highly recommend this location for anything. Food, drinks, conversation they have it all. If you hit the bar I hope Debbie is working. She makes the whole atmosphere fun and enjoyable. They even have a cool Jukebox app and you can play almost any song you can think of. Then they even have Karioke night on Thursday evening. Must stop by if you haven't tried this local favorite.

A classic steakhouse with a lively bar, In my opinion, The Sportsman has the best food in all of SoCal. They use fresh, high-quality ingredients and it is always perfectly prepared. I no longer live in the area so last weekend was the first time I’d eaten there in two years. I was surprised to see that they hadn’t raised their prices during that time.

I recently visited the bar section in the back. There's a real local vibe here with great beers on tap and a good happy hour menu. They are famous for their drinks, potstickers, and rib eye steak. The rib eye was medium grade and very tasty, the potstickers weren't bad, and the bartender was engaging and very helpful. Great happy hour joint!

Lamb is really good. Sabina was very professional. Even with it all busy in there she still can take minute and say hello how are you nice to meet you made you feel comfortable.

I enjoyed our most recent visit to this restaurant. There are two sections that you can sit in. One is the restaurant bar area with dining seating and the other area is a restaurant only area. There is also a patio that has folding shutters that are closed during the cold season and open during the summer. There is a lot of room and when we went during lunch time it was not crowded at all. The bar was much busier than the dining area. They were short-staffed but the waitress tried her best to be attentive. I saw another couple do a quick lunch visit but they knew what they wanted right away and left. Our visit was a little on the long side but was pleasurable because it was a lunch date. If I was going in for lunch break from work I would have gone into the bar area where it was busier but would have a quicker turnaround. I had the seafood place and it was pretty good. My wife had a burger and onion rings. Everything was filling. As you can see from the pictures it is not modern and needs little remodeling (90s decor) but they warmth of the service really made this place shine.

Interesting to say the least, had gone to the bar to see dance lessons going on with on overwhelming aroma of men's after shave fish tacos had more salad than fish couldn't taste the fish or there tortilla under all the salad and for "happy hour" 4 mozzarella Strick's for $4! Not what i would consider a bargain

Majority of Food was Tasty. Steaks were over cooked. Way understaffed, only one worker tending to bar and restaurant. Having a big party, bartender did her best. Poor thing, especially when the female owner stood there not helping with our party..

My husband and I love the sportsman! We come here for special occasions… Anniversaries, Christmas Eve, birthdays, etc. We’ve always had a good meal. This last dining experience was not good. We ordered prime rib, and my husband asked for the end cut. The meat came out room temp and dry as cardboard. The server graciously took it back and the next time it came out warm but full of fat and gristle. She took it back again and brought him a regular cut piece, cooked medium. The third time was a charm, but it was very awkward. Since it was my husbands birthday, she brought us a piece of German chocolate cake that was dry and tasted old. We are now reluctant to come back after this experience.

Food is good but at a high price point given the dining atmosphere. The place is dated and quirky, suffering from an identity crisis. For instance, there is a seemingly non-functional arcade game in the bar area and a random Koi pond in the entrance near bathrooms that had a sickening sewer smell. Had some good meals there in the past but honestly not sure I will be going back given the prices and dining experience.

1st time visitor - Stopped in for dinner as I've driven by this place a million times and wondered how it was. Service was attentive and friendly. Beer was cold but unless you sit at the bar you'd have no idea how many choices they have. I have to assume the bread basket that was first brought to the table was a mistake - they rave about their sourdough and the chunks in the basket were rock hard! My wife and I laughed as we pounded on the table with these bread bricks! I ordered a steak medium rare and it was on the well done side. Edible, but not quite what I wanted. The second basket of bread was waaaaaaay better - soft, chewy, warm. My wife got the honey battered fried chicken and was a bit disappointed that at least one of the pieces wasn't a breast. All in all an OK meal but nothing that makes me want to rush back.

Went here on New Years Eve for dinner. The menu was very limited, (5 or 6 items) maybe because of the holiday? I ordered an "end cut" prime rib. It was tough, tasteless & the worst piece of meat I've ever had in any restaurant. My wife had prime rib, done medium. She said it was tasteless. The mixed vegetables had a weird taste. A Prime rib dinner at Denny's would have been superior to this meal. We got a "to go" box and brought it home for the dog. I hope she'll eat it. LOL

Waitress was nice. Went there cause I wanted a calm spot to relax after a long drive. My daughter and I ordered the fried chicken with mashed potatoes and vegetables. I kid you not the chicken came straight from a banquet box and on to my plate. Mashed potatoes where a weird texture and there was no flavor. 50 dollers I'll never see again, but live and learn.

As soon as I walked in the lady asked me was my order to go didn't even ask if I wanted a seat to dine in almost thought she was going to tell me you had to make my order at the back door 😞

This place smelt like a damp bathroom. There is a small Koi fish pond in front and the whole place smells like soggy mildew. I thought about walking out after I ordered my drink because the smell was disgusting. The service was good. The food was ok, but not worth the money. The smell ruined the food. The owner should have some ventilation going to keep the smell down. I will not be going back. EVER. I have learned, if it smells when you walk in....walk out.

Disappointed when I heard they CHEAT the entertainers from an agreed fee they are to be paid. To make 300 % + profit from cocktails and beer......and Not pay the entertainers that distract the customers who are paying these rediculous prices for a drink......is totally wrong. We had reservations for Thanksgiving. We were seated immediately but no server for 30 minutes. Finally I asked bus boy and 10 minutes later server came over. 55 min after being seated we got our wine - $12 for 5 oz of house wine. 75 minutes after being seated we were served. Turkey was good, salmon awful. Never again!

As a pilot, I have eaten at a lot of restaurants, NEVER have I seen Mushrooms on such a nice piece of sea food. The Cesar salad had a che.ical taste that burnt the rood of my mouth. Slow service, bad food. What a waste of $35.00 Never again. Absolutely STAY AWAY FROM HERE

Food was unimpressive and way too pricey for being ho-hum. Limited menu, mostly steaks & potatoes and derivatives. Salads are bland. Drinks were watered down. Service was sparse but the people were nice. Everything (even drinks) took very long even though the restaurant was not busy. Had dinner 5-6:30pm on Friday night. Crowd was thin and primarily AARP members. Interior was decorated in the 80's but never updated. Avoid unless post-apocolypse. So many better places to eat in Camarillo and Oxnard for much better value. This place is sad and dying.

Rude slow and smells. Cold greet like she really didn't want to serve me. Coffee had lipstick on mug which happens but she never came back over. No sugar or spoon to stir. When she finally came back 15 minutes later she dropped off a fork then ran off. I finally just left never made it to food. Looks like a good bar but horrible restaurant.

Needed a Booth for myself and 4 other patrons. We got turned away simply because the dining room is closed and only the bar is open. No wonder nobody is ever there.

On a work trip. Four of us came to this location, hotel next door. We told bartender, Debbie, that the bill was wrong. I had 3 beers and the other male in our group had approx 5. The bill showed 11, so we started dissecting the bill. $240 later for a short evening, we felt was a little over the top. So 3 of us chipped in cash, the other person put the rest on their card. A week goes by…..no ‘Sportsman’ charge on the card. Yet it had Apple, Best Buy, and clothing store on their account. Good old Debbie did a number as the best bartender in Camarillo. Good luck!!!!

Unfortunately, there wasn't much open for nice places to eat on Thanksgiving. They had a very limited menu which did not include pasta or great options for a vegetarian. We thought the food was so so but the price was ridiculously expensive since they jack the prices up for Thanksgiving meals. Very poor that they allow for the back door to be propped open, allowing smokers to fill the restaurant with second hand smoke blowing in from them allowing smoking at the back door.

Yikes. I can't complain enough about my experience here on a Saturday night. We went to watch a band play (which was fantastic), but the service was so incredibly slow and bad that it was painful. Took an hour to get our food and we were the only people in the restaurant when we ordered. They ended up bringing out cold wings and I had to send them back and wait again. The bartender was making jokes about why people would actually eat there...I wonder why too. It was also incredibly expensive for how bad the food was. We also sat in card table chairs which were obviously uncomfortable. Ugh. Go anywhere else.

Waited at host counter for about 5 minutes before we seen anyone that worked there. Finally when the host came to the counter he said to sit anywhere in the bar. We did not get menus or anything and got pushed into the bar. As we sat in the bar for about 10 minutes waiting for a waitress we saw another couple that walked in and were handed menus and were seated. Horrible customer service! Bad atmosphere due the bar scene that was very loud. I highly do NOT RECOMMEND!!!

I'm staying at the Fairfield Inn & Suites behind this Sports Bar. After working all day, I was tired and didn't want to get back into traffic on the 101, so I decided to eat within walking distance. I looked up locations around me and came across Sportsman Camarillo. The menu had so many great choices for dinner, and even the appetizers were tempting. I finally decided on the rack of lamb for $44, which came with mixed veggies and my choice of clam chowder instead of a salad, along with a baked potato as my side. I was told the order would be ready in 20 minutes. When I walked over to the restaurant 20 minutes later, the atmosphere and setting were definitely more bar than restaurant. I was greeted by both bartenders, and one of them checked on my order. It wasn't ready yet but only took another 8 minutes. When I got back to my room and opened my plate, I was immediately disappointed. But then again, I did order lamb chops at a bar. The lamb chops were cooked to my requested temperature, but no seasoning at all had been added. The presentation of the signature rolls wasn't great, and the taste was just as bad. The mixed veggies, which I was looking forward to as much as the lamb, were just as disappointing—soggy and not visually appealing. The baked potato wasn't the loaded baked potato I'm used to; it had no cheese or bacon, only chives and green onions, and they still included the sour cream I asked them to hold. The clam chowder was the best part of my dinner. I won't ever visit this establishment again, but if I had to for some reason out of my control and I wasn't paying for it, I would only order the clam chowder.

This place is outdated, food is horrible I mean horrible. They don't know how to make a burger or Country fry steak either. Everything needs to be reinvented to the 2026. workers need to be trained.
