Food Delicious
Local, vegetarian/vegan, authentic Persian cuisine. Moderately priced, beautifully prepared food presented by casual, friendly staff in a cozy, intimate setting. A weekly favorite for food that makes you feel like you're doing something good for yourself.
Amazing good, even if you are not vegetarian/vegan! Everything tastes very fresh, you can tell they use quality ingredients. Our favorite is the Osh soup - if you find yourself at sage, it’s a must!!
I am a devout carnivore but absolutely love the dishes here! So delicious! The restaurant is also incredibly cozy and lovely atmosphere! I also highly recommend trying the tiramisu! Highly recommend going here!
Great veggie (some vegan) restaurant. I had the veggie burger that was handmade and had a delicious sauce. I'll definitely come back to try more. I highly recommend this place if your vegetarian, vegan or neither
Sage. 119 Weaver Dairy Rd (Timberlyne shopping center). Sandwiched between a Subway and the Post Office, Sage’s location does not exactly scream cool, but this spot will tempt the hard core carnivore to go vegan. It’s Persian origins are reflected throughout the all vegetarian menu, and the entrées explode with flavor. The lasagna is a can’t miss, but I’ve yet to be disappointed on any selection. A great call for a pre-cholesterol screening meal. Travel note: This summer we met a guy at Whole Food’s in Seattle’s hip Belltown district who helped open Sage. You always run in to someone with a Chapel Hill connection in the cool parts of any town.
So glad we drove by and saw this place. Probably one of the best Vegetarian meals I have ever had. Would definitely stop by again when im in Chapel Hill
We had such a great experience. The food was fantastic and delicious. All I have to say is Go Eat Here!
I thoroughly enjoyed this vegan meal. This eggplant dish was amazing and they substituted the rice for an amazing side salad with a flavor packed house dill dressing
We love this place. When we have a chance to go out, my wife and I just about always go here. Because we can't imagine finding better food anywhere else. We always get the Caribe.
What a pleasant surprise! Wonderful atmosphere, great quality food with unique flair, pleasing music, and friendly service. I'll be stopping here again! Recommend!
FANTASTIC! This is my favorite place to eat. Everything is amazing!!! I have tried so many other restaurants, but I keep coming back here because the food is so so good!
This was one of my fav restaurants in Chapel Hill, but sadly we rode by today (9/9/23) and confirmed it has permanently closed 😭 they will be missed!
Great food. Slow to get but we weren't in rush. Freshly made. Very tasty. Vegan too.
Amazing food. Fantastic ambiance, and staff is on top of it. I have lived in this neighborhood for years and the family that runs the restaurant are also amazing people.
Hands down, the best Soul Food I have tasted in the Charlotte area ! Very authentic dishes not soul food inspired like other restaurants I visited and I am a Foodie grew up on country cooking....
An absolutely amazing experience of wonderful food and drinks with great conversations with the owners. I cannot recommend this place highly enough.
Such a delight to dine at at. Menu, staff, and cozy setting all were fine. I can see why they have been around for 12 years (we are new in town, so I asked).
I'm used to vegetarian based restaurants to have mediocre food, but this was almost fine dining level. Def. Not comfort food compared to others, but damn good.
The orange blossom lemonade is delicious. I also had the sprout salad and pomegranate soup which were amazing.
Delicious food. Elegant setting. Nice service. They even have outdoor seating that is dog-friendly.
Great vegetarian food, not somewhere I'd go out of my way for though
Very tasty and fresh food. A little too small space, so it's hard to find a table in busy hours, but it is really worth it.
Reliably tasty food, high quality ingredients & very kind staff...so many great vegetarian options!
Fantastic tastes, filling & satisfying but not heavy. Worth a 45 minute drive as often as we can make it!
This restaurant offers various Vegan and Gluten Free options in there menu. One of the best vegan restaurant in RTP.
Ambient atmosphere and very relaxing, lost of both vegan and gluten free options, our waiter was also very friendly and knowledgeable. Both meals were incredible and generously portioned. We will definitely be back!
Always delicious! If you like Persian food, this is the place to go for authentic flavors in the Triangle. They also serve some Italian dishes, and at lunch they have some great sandwiches and wraps. This place is a must try!
This is the best carry out food you can get during Covid. Friendly and fast service . The food is amazing. Veggie food / the best ever! You will never miss the meat! I have been going here over 10 years. It is my very favorite food EVER! Please help support Sage during Covid. This is a jewel we don’t want to loose !!! They have won several well deserved awards. You won’t e disappointed with anything you order! My favorite- lasagna .
This is not only a great vegetarian cafe, this is one of the best restaurants if you really want great food! I have been a customer here for many years and when I am in town this is the first place I go. Ray and Connie make this place even better with their impeccable service and phenomenal cooking skills . If you are near Durham, Chapel Hill, Hillsborough, this is close by and just delicious.
I don’t think I can put into words how much I love this restaurant. I have been going here consistently now for eight years, and their food is always incredible! Even if you’re not a vegetarian/vegan, you will find something here to enjoy. This restaurant actually helped start me & my love on our vegan journey; we had no idea food without meat/dairy tasted this good until Sage! PS- They are a small restaurant, so yes, at times they will be busy. If you’re willing to wait for some excellent homemade vegetarian food, stay. It will be worth it, trust me.
Ray and his staff have been taking care of our Sage cravings for over 10 years now since we first discovered this awesome neighborhood restaurant in Timberlyne Shopping Center! The food is made to order, not massed produced, and it is delicious! We absolutely love it! Highly recommend!
Decided to check this place out on a whim and so glad that we went! The food is super delicious, doesn't matter whether you are a vegetarian or vegan. My wife and I tend to eat vegetarian. We loved the Tofu Bahn Mi! It was so yummy! We will definitely come back for that sandwich alone. The staff was so nice and helpful. They allowed us to change what came on the Garden Burger.
This gnocchi pomodoro has the best tasting red sauce I have ever had, in my entire life. It tastes homemade like my grandma used to make. We've been here multiple times and absolutely love the Persian food as well. Everything we've tried has been seasoned perfectly, and very well balanced. 11 out of 10 would recommend to a friend. Admittedly we've only had carryout because of COVID, but the staff has been friendly both on the phone and in person. This is my absolute favorite place we've eaten carryout from since we moved to NC at the start of the pandemic. This is the only place we've gone to more than once. I can't wait to eat here again.
Everything smells amazing as soon as you walk through the door. I've been going here for maybe ten years and the food stays consistently delicious. The osh is maybe my all-time favorite soup - really hearty, super flavorful. The gnocchi is also amazing - highly recommended. Great warm, calm feeling in there. A really nice place to be.
Wonderful vegetarian options. Have been several times and never disappointed. When out of town guests are looking for a healthy out to eat option this is my first thought. The dishes are made fresh so plan on some time for them to be prepared, you won't be disappointed.
Love how most things can be made vegan. The tofu dill salad dressing is delicious! I'd never suspect that was in the ingredients, just a very creamy dressing! The food is so healthy, but it tastes like REAL food. Very interesting flavors and spices as well. The only thing I'd change is the price.
Sage is a wonderful little cafe with a completely vegetarian menu. I love the fesen-jun, which is a pomegranate Walnut stew with tempeh. I've ordered it every single time I've visited, ever since they opened. I've tasted their other dishes and they are excellent as well. Their Persian iced tea is perfect on a hot summer day, like today!
I love this place! My husband and I drive from Greensboro to RDU often so we schedule flights in the afternoon so we can have lunch at Sage on the way to the airport. We have tried several things from the menu and all have been great. I love the food so much I bought the cookbook! We enjoy the outdoor seating when the weather is nice too. The flowers and plants are so lovely. Go, even if you aren't vegetarian (we aren't). You won't regret it!
We’ve been going to Sage Cafe for over ten years (since 2007). It’s one of our favorite restaurants in the Triangle area. We love all the Persian dishes as well as the vegan wrap, house-made veggie burger, and the Kabob and Caribe entrees. Everything is delicious and full of flavor, and we always feel welcomed, like family!
Following a plant-based diet can still be a bit of a challenge when dining out, so it's always a treat to go to a place that offers so many options. Our experience was wonderful. The staff was very helpful (letting us try a sample of one of the dishes), the food was delightful and fresh, and the decor was sweet and inviting. Will definitely be back!
I work right around the corner and Sage is definitely my go-to spot. I am absolutely in love with the food and the staff is amazing too. I have ordered many different things on the menu and I am always completely satisfied. Everything is so unique, fresh with amazing flavor. Although a rather simple order, I'm obsessed with the daily hummus. I have never had better hummus in my life! BTW- I'm not a vegetarian but I'd choose this place for lunch any day :)
This place is a treasure. We at Green Beagle LOVE having such an incredible choice so close by - we all work up some serious appetites doing what we love, and Sage's food is an art. And their fare is satisfying enough to keep us fueled up enough for an afternoon of dogs and fresh air; that's impressive. The Caribe is unlike anything we've tried, and their Persian iced tea is addictive. Sage's waitstaff is always friendly and knowledgeable, and we just...love them. And it's a local business - what could be better?
This unassuming little restaurant in the middle of a strip mall is truly a hidden gem offering a range of veggie/vegan dishes with a Persian twist. Everything is fresh, colorful and vibrant - we opted for the sampler dish since we know nothing about Persian food and got to try three completely different dishes. The portions are generous and flavor is created through spice instead of the overuse of oil and salt. We didn't have enough room left for dessert but next time I'll definitely make it a priority.
Food is delicious! I just wish the staff was a bit friendlier.
Tasty and cozy...a great combination!
Delicious all-vegetarian fare!
The food add Sage is very tasty vegetarian fare with a Persian influence. There is both inside and limited outside seating. The wait staff is always friendly. It is a very popular little restaurant.
Ray is a great chef and all around stellar human! I love the Special Cauliflower curry stew! I would love to taste more Safron in the rice! I will go again!
A little pricey, but the food was excellent. Vegetarian and gluten-free friendly. You've got to try the sweet tea with cardamom.
Wonderful food and excellent staff. One of the better choices for folks on special diets. Very reasonable prices too.
Food has good flavors. A little on the pricier side of things. The special combination platter was $20.
I opted for the wrap as they were out of burgers...it did not disappoint. -1 for running out of Sageburgers in the first place.
I adore this restaurant... All of the Persian specialties are incredible, and so is the hummus platter. I can't recommend it enough! I'm not even a vegetarian, but this is always my to choice for taking out friends our relatives... Perfect for a light dinner or lunch!
I went here with a friend because I heard it was a good restaurant from a lot of recommenders online, and I'm a vegetarian. The restaurant itself is pretty small (and so were the tables) but nothing unmanageable. While there was some ambiance (a few mirrors, christmas lights, some paintings, and a colored glow), it didn't really yell to me one specific theme. We ordered the Cari-bowl and a Vegetarian Lasagna. The Cari-bowl was quite delicious. The taste was all from the seasonings, because the vegetables tasted incredible (and let's be honest, by themselves they suck). The Vegetarian Lasagna was also pretty good, although it was too hot to eat. Not a bad thing, but we had to wait 10-15 min before digging in. The service was just average, nothing exceptional but not subpar.
Out of 3 diners we had 1 'perfect' 1 'okay' 1 'I thought I had ordered something else (English is a 2nd language?)' Hummus 9.9/10 by all Salads 9.9/10 Caribe 10/10 rich and flavorful Vegetable Kabob 8/10 not special Gnocchi 5/10 order miscommunication, rich and filling, other 2 thought really tasty 3 glasses wine Bill with tip $120
Decent food, but all dishes are significantly over priced.
My wife loves the food here. I think its ok. I'm not vegan so of the dishes I've eaten in here they were good, but just not my forte in general. I usually take her because she likes it and we mostly do take out. We went in there on a saturday night and we were the first ones to arrive before the rush. We put in our order (which was pasta and my wife ordered the special) and our salads came out immediately which we ate. Then the place filled up with patrons. We waited for like 45 minutes and still no food which seems odd since I just ordered pasta and she got the Special which you would think would be readily available since its the special right?. Our clueless waitress kept promising our food would be right out. Just 10 more minutes she kept saying, even though I just ordered pasta, how long does it take to cook pasta? Well other people that came in after us were getting their food. We even saw a couple come in probably 30 minutes after we did be seated and receive the same order that we placed (which as it turned out was OUR FOOD) however, the waitress would not admit that our food was given to someone else and said to me "I'm not in charge of what happens in the kitchen" as if that was the point anyway? Isn't it the her job to take care of her customers instead of make excuses? The manager didn't give a crap either even though we spoke with her. Finally after 1 hour and 15 minutes passed our order came out. We would have just left but we were starving and didn't have time to get food anywhere else because we were going to a movie next door which was starting soon. Anyway, as I said the food is ok, but not worth that much hassle in my opinion. The wait staff in there is hit and miss. My advice is do takeout with them if you're going to eat their food. I will never spend another minute of wasted time sitting in that restaurant. I know people have off nights but come on.
First off its immensely small. Even though there were tables open, it felt super crowded. The decor was overbearing. Too much for such a small small place. I walked in, asked for a table and the woman toys me they closed at 9. It was 8:25. I said ok and again asked for a table. She repeated herself, so I asked for menus and to sit outside. And that is also crowded. Ordered our food? It was really good, a bit overpriced for what you get really. The entire meal we were really rushed by the server. Got our check before our dessert and then..... our server left. In fact, several left at once.I am a server as well and that is completely unacceptable. So the tip reflected it. May go back because the food is tasty. But hope I get a different experience!
Small portions for lunch and pricey. Caprese Sandwich was good but the feson joon was very sweet. Also the portion was suitable for a child with rice and small bowl of entree for $15
It’s CLOSED! PERMANENTLY! So sad!
We were really looking forward to dinning at this restaurant because of the overall positive reviews on Yelp. Unfortunately, we were very disappointed by the terrible service. When we arrived, we were not greeted and not sure if we were supposed to sit ourselves or order at the bar. So we sat ourselves at one of the empty tables. Then the waitress came to us and told us that they were closing soon and rambled about getting out on time, awkwardly. At this point we really wanted to walk out and just leave but the high reviews of the food made us decided to give it a try. We placed our order quickly because we felt rushed. When the waitress came back with our drinks, she did apologize about her rudeness. At the end of the meal, we asked for baklava to go. Unfortunately, she messed up the order and gave us tiramisu, which we did not realize until we opened the bag at home. The waitress never came back and asked if we were doing okay throughout the dinning experience either. Overall, we are VERY disappointed at the service and will likely NOT visit again.
