This is a GREAT place to eat. Good food good family atmosphere at affordable prices. Highly recommend DOG FRIENDLY patio.
Googled dog friendly restaurants in Dana Point and the Brig came up. Wow. More like Dog’s welcome and treated just as important as the owners. Great outdoor patio to bring you four legged friend. Food was good and served in large portions. The restaurant does not have a view of the water, but is very close for a short walk after. Will be returning.
Good claim chowder. The waitress was Awesome and so helpful. The bread was fresh baked and food came out hot. The fish was great. For our large party The server was Awesome. We will think of the restaurant again for a group function at the harbor. Great breakfast also!!
My family of 5 celebrated Father's Day here today. We were seated right away when we arrived 1pm. We ordered Eggs Benedict, Ham steak & Eggs, pancakes and fish tacos. Everything was delicious. The portions were large. All the staff were really nice. We will definitely be comming back here❣😋
An older place with delicious food! You can tell they have been around awhile but you wouldn't know tasting their food. We enjoyed their vegetarian scramble loaded with avocado and alfalfa sprouts. My sons loved their pancakes and fresh fruit. They are right on harbor, so you can a beautiful walk before or after your meal. All the staff we came in contact with were friendly. I would definitely go back the The Brig for another meal.
The first time I went to the Brig I was a little defensive about the price of the hamburgers. How could they get away with charging that much for a hamburger? (They’ve gone up a couple dollars since then) I bit the bullet and ordered one. It was the best burger I have ever had. Since then I have tried all of them and they are all fantastic. I also love the calamari steak. I have a hard time deciding between them. Not many restaurants have a good slaw, but I like theirs very much. My husband always has the same thing: The breakfast burrito. He did have the fish and chips once and he said it was very good. He usually takes half of his meal home. The portions are very large. Their margaritas are perfect. The service is always good and the staff is friendly and welcoming. Today is my birthday and guess where I’m going?
Awesome homestyle restaurant with great food. It was a little pricey but this is what California voters get when they vote for $20+ minimum wage. Loved the Christmas music and decorations!
Always love going there. I usually have the same thing. Texas size chili size with their wonderful fries. Clam chowder is fantastic, and their rolls that come with the chowder are super good. Burgers are super. Fish and chips are great, too! Desserts are yummy! Great place to eat. The staff is very friendly and they come back frequently to see if you need anything.
Excellent service and so many choices! Cinnamon roll with maple frosting for a breakfast appetizer was absolutely delicious. First time here and had the corned beef hash.. sooo good! Everything was absolutely scrumptious. I tried a bite of the patty melt and a fry a member of my party had.. excellent and the fries were to die for! Best diner type food restaurant I've been to. Got the bread pudding to go... Huge slice and so yummy! Thanks Kevin!
Great atmosphere, friendly staff, menu offers wide selection. Fish and Chips are outstanding! Large portion, the fish is lightly coated, with a perfect crunch. The garlic seasoned fries remind me of the ones at the Orange County Fair. Yummy. The coleslaw is a great side dish. A lovely place to enjoy a relaxed meal.
Great Server with good local info. Great Upscale Bloody Mary service. 1 star off for soggy/frozen spinach in the omelet (go fresh). Everything else was great.
Great food big portions may want to share good value for money
The staff is very attentive and friendly. I would recommend this place to friends and family.
We had a great experience at Brigs! My husband ordered the Eggs Benedict and said it was absolutely delicious. I had the country chicken fried steak — it was perfectly cooked and seasoned just right. One little suggestion, maybe replaced the bread with biscuit. Everything was flavorful and satisfying. We’ll definitely be back!
the burger tastes pretty good. However there is no lake or ocean view like shown in other review photos.

I am giving it 5 stars for what it is which is a basic American family restaurant. We've eaten here probably 10 times. We get good service and our food is solid. It isn't Mastros but their chili, burgers, fish/chips and breakfast food has always been good for us. If you go in expecting so amazingly unique and fancy restaurants that isn't the right expectations. It is dog friendly and is very large so getting a seat usually isn't a problem. It is old and outdated in there but I kind of like that old family restaurant feel. It is a bit overpriced, but usually things are in the harbor.

An older facility that has great specials. Great for the ages crowd. Not really a place that I would recommend to bring kids but not a bad place for them. They do have a kids menu and a few healthy choices. The decor is rustic sea faring type and in my opinion the decor could use an update. This had been a staple in Dana point and I have been coming here for years. Not my favorite place to go but I think about this place as a breakfast place mostly.
The atmosphere was nice. The service was good. The food was good but very pricey. Restrooms could be improved on.
We enjoyed sitting on the patio! We split a breakfast burrito and hash browns. The hash browns were very good. Our server was nice and the food was fresh/came out quickly.
Customer service was great food is a little pricey but was alright
We went for breakfast and it is great! The menu is broad, the food is delicious, the portions are large, and the nap needed afterwards is serious - especially if you’re in vacation mode like we were. Everything could use an update in and around this place in my opinion. It seems clean but it doesn’t feel fresh if that makes sense. The prices are about what you’d expect in CA. The service and food are great.

Food was pretty good. Big menu. Friendly service.
My char boiled salmon, veggies, and mashed potatoes tasted like a home cooked meal. Very delicious, I will have lunch here again! The lemon came in a super cute design, and warmed my heart lol. Thanks chef!!

Used to be a regular stop for my family. Pretty high prices these days for food that is just okay. I actually fed my eggs to the dog; they were so dry. We only went to the Brig because it held special memories for my mom and she wanted a new mug. Even she was shocked at the food prices. We could have had a higher quality lunch elsewhere for the same amount of money. Not sure we'll be back.

For the price of the food, you'd expect it taste a lot better than it did. There really is nothing special about the menu. If you just want a typical diner type meal, then this is your place. The only redeeming quality and why I am giving you two stars, is because of the outdoor seating which was nice.
So the food was okay but the problem is the price of that food. I had the eggs Benedict which just used a piece of ham instead of a proper Canadian bacon. It makes it too salty. The eggs were well poached and the hollandaise sauce was good. But it was $27 which is just outrageous for what it is and in a diner that has not been renovated since the 1990’s is my guess. Just really disappointing having just come from Japan where meals were amazing and priced so well that it was really better than cooking. Is it the fault of the owner. Probably not but it still just feels like being ripped off when a meal for 2 is over $60 at something akin to Denny’s. It makes me sad. Service was prompt and friendly however 15% tip on a not worth it $60 meal just doesn’t add up to anything reasonable. Since staff make higher wages tipping has to change from a percentage to something reasonable when exceptional service is provided. The service was good but nothing exceptional. Travel has allowed me a new perspective. The system here in the US is just broken.
Listen to the comments It has mixed reviews and the ones saying it wasn't the greatest is for a reason. It is over priced, service was ok, ordered biscuits and gravy and the there was barely any gravy over the dry biscuits. Eggs Benedict was good, the ham steak was thick. Dino nuggets for kids which was a hit, but my 6 year old waited the whole time for a waffle that never came because the waffle maker broke...this is where I have the problem. She kept saying it's on its way and then after the third time she said it was broken.... We as a table finished eating and my son was still sitting and waiting. He ordered a new meal after she cleared our plates. Refilled coffee once after we asked and it wasn't even busy for her not be attentive. Overall it was a nice patio. We visit Dana Point often and this was our first and last time dining at this place. There are better option throughout the point to dine at but take a chance if you must, you might have a better experience.
Great service ..waitress was awesome..food not so much. Nachos were like the ones you made in the microwave as a kid. Hamburger meat had a weird after taste. Enchiladas were not good and rice was hard, tuna melt was served without cheese. We sent 3 meals back which we never do. Dennys would have been a much better choice. The food was way overpriced for food that was horrible. However the waitress deserved her tip she tried hard to keep us happy.
The food was okay, but the service was slow and everything was overpriced. $5.25 for an 8 ounce soda?!?!? The server had no idea I was at my table. Now I understand why RJs cafe was packed and this place was dead.

Came here all the time in the 90s. Fresh OJ, great food, etc. Now, everything is different. No fresh juice, sausage and bacon taste like rubber (identical to the kind you would find in a cheap hotel with buffet style breakfast. Eggs were absolutely horrific. Typical for classic restaurants that need to cut costs at every corner to afford the accelerating cost of rent on the californiaw coast. This is the last time i am coming here.
Such a disappointment! We went to The Brig because some family members went there years ago, and said it was good. Well, it was bad from the start! The interior of the restaurant is outdated, and it just felt yucky. We went anticipating prime rib, but it wasn't even on the menu. I ordered the country fried steak, and it was very bland, and barely warm. The only reason I ate it was because it was insanely expensive, and I didn't want to waste it. My sister was so embarrassed that she recommended the restaurant, because it was so bad. Just for fun, we went to Denny's the next night (it's just down the street). Denny's was better in every category. The food was better, it was served hot, it was half the price, and the service was much much better. You've been warned. Steer clear of The Brig!
I loved this place when I was a kid. I used to eat there a lot. Then they changed hands and the food quality was horrible. I stopped eating there for a while because of that. Then they changed hands again and the food quality was much better. I moved up to LA county so I haven’t eaten there for a while. My wife and I just recently tried to eat there, but when I saw the ridiculous high prices, we decided to bail. $19.50 for soup and salad?!!! Are you kidding me?!!!! The food is decent, but not worth that price.
The best thing about this place is the name and the glass of water I had. I feel bad honestly. I walked in here and was like, yikes. I read the menu and the prices were thru the roof. There is no bar. Really outdated and not in a charming way, in a depressing gross way. I read the reviews and was like ok let’s give them a chance. The staff was nice and pleasant but dear god was the food terrible. I ate 20% of my burger and just couldn’t go any further. I got a 16$ Pina Colada which was also ridiculously bad with no alcohol in it. Such a shame. So much potential here to be cool. Great location. The owner should just sell it to some one who wants To put in the Effort. Listen to the reviews. I should have. :(
DO NOT EAT HERE… $30 for a *terrible* single waffle with paper thin bacon. The restaurant genuinely made me think of the show Kitchen Nightmares. Even if proximity to the water is an excuse to raise prices it was completely unjustified for the price and poor quality of food. Prime example of how to kill your business, turn away new and long-standing customers, and prevent your wait staff from making living. The service team was nice.
I’ve never left a google review before but after my experience today, I need to. I now understand what other reviewers were talking about. The food had NO flavor. We tried everything from blueberry pancakes, to eggs Benedict, to their “famous” fish and chips. Everything was bland and had little to no seasoning. THE WORST PART is it’s very over priced. Each plate was around $20 and an extra side of eggs was over $4. If you want orange juice, you’ll get a small glass of some watery minute-maid for over $5. Service was fine but it didn’t make up for the food. In short, save your money and go to Stacks Pancakes down the street.
More for the elderly. I got a tuna salad for $40???
This is my first ever review -We all agreed the Most disappointing meal we have ever had and for over $20 an entree felt ripped off - zero flavor in both fish and chips and fish tacos - the fish was sour ( definitely not fresh) and left a bad taste - fish was also over battered and greasy - guacamole brown- beans over cooked and flavorless- salad was wilted - tacos soggy and tasted as cooked in rancid oil- table was dirty and the condiment were bottles sticky. Only took one picture of mustard bottle dirt.. if this is what you show your customers what is your kitchen like?
The ambiance of the restaurant is quite cozy and casual. Nothing special. The service is great, our server is very well accommodating. My problem with this place is the food. It’s overpriced, less to no seasoning, they put more sides than the actual food you order. Overall, this place is not recommendable.
This restaurant robbed us. The food was so terrible and the worst part is it was so expensive. They use absolutely no seasoning when it comes to cooking. The service was great the food was just God awful and expensive for no reason at all. I don't care how close this restaurant is near your hotel save yourself some time and money.

It's near a beach area so it's a typical tourist food stop. However, the food is not great. It all tasted like prepackaged food. My kids got a hot chocolate and it was $7 but you can taste and smell it was the Swiss Miss package. My egg omelette was mostly veggies and a little bit of eggs, for the price, it should be more egg. My wife's burrito was decent she said but her rice and beans were very disappointing. The beans were definitely canned. I also kept hearing a microwave door open and close with beeping. The staff is really nice but you go to a restaurant for the food and sadly, it was just not good.
We ate breakfast here and the pries were high. It would have been fine but the food was horrible. I don't remember the last time I had sua terrible breakfast. Sort of hard to make a bad omelet. Stay away!
