amazing local spot for the famous Pines Burger. Would also recommend anything fried here as they do it right ... Nice and crispy! Big fan of the onion rings and corn fritters. Free refills on fountain drinks. And don't forget to play Sunset Riders, a staple of any Ithacan childhood. Cheap spot, won't break the bank and you'll get a whole lot of family atmosphere! Must visit spot on any trip to Ithaca
Liked this place so much that we had lunch there two days in a row. It's quite casual, and has good seating with lake views both indoors and out.
I've driven by many times on my way to Ithaca, but never stopped. Dropped in recently on a trip to Taughannock Falls with family, great experience. Our waitress was very friendly, the food was served in a timely manner (to 4 people), and it tasted great (enjoyed a Pinesburger). I'll be sure to visit again.
Fast service... delicious bloody Mary with 2 shots and just the right amount of horseradish. The house burger is amazingly fresh and served on a soft french bread. Also ordered the fried mushrooms, any fried food is always good. My husby ordered the Cornell chicken sandwich, it was moist and delicious. For dessert, gotta go with the house made rice pudding....this reminded me of the local diner I grew up with....sweet, great rice texture, excellent sweet finish to a great simple meal. Perfect after hiking the falls nearby
Great spot. Good unique burgers, different then you'd typically expect. The burgers are char grilled and remind me of a backyard BBQ. Also they use different bread. Very yummy and filling.
We ordered the Crabwich and Fish Reuben with a side of Fried Corn Nuggets. The crab sandwich was served in a white bun with options of lettuce and tomato. The crab was light and very tasty. The Fish Reuben was large and also tasty. The coleslaw that it came with was creamy without being overpowering. The service is at the bar and quick!
Wings worth driving from NYC for. Unreal flavors that will haunt my most pleasurable dreams for aeons to come. In fact I would not be surprised if I had perished from pleasure whilst dining on aforementioned wings and everything I’ve experienced since is a flash of memory playing out before my soul returns to the great hereafter.
Best burgers OF YOUR LIFE. Thick cuts, keep the juice in, take a bite and you’re floating over Lake Cayuga. Is there too much plastic with the whole order-out culture - yes- but the quality has never waned. Grab a souvenir cup, talk with the waitress, check out the NFL bobble heads, and order a bucket if you’re inclined. Most creative corridor to a bathroom I’ve ever seen - if you a rock a XXL, God Bless. Burgers to go, or stay, support your local establishments, head on over to Buttonwood, stay regal. Bless.
Had a Pines burger and 6 wings with a pint of Winter Lager. Great burger, reminded me of cook outs. And the wings are by far the best I’ve had in Ithaca. Fun location by the lake too (with a view). Highly recommend!
We always visit here when we are visiting from Texas. Great food, great atmosphere and always with dear friends. This last visit I tried the center cut pork chop. It was the VERY best I have ever had!! They are still not full service. We were able to order take out and sit and eat inside the restaurant. And we were able to order bar drinks too. A wonderful time was had by all!!
This place is a gem, they have a wide variety of food for all tastes, their burgers are great but I always go for their Tuna steak, popcorn shrimp or pork chops. They always have a nice selection of beers on tap and other drinks. I'mean also told their Bloody Mary is amazing. Their owners and staff are always great and friendly and the building has such a great character. One more thing, their views, views, views. A must if you're visiting Ithaca
Came here for lunch after a hike at Taughannock Falls. We came with 2 kids, a baby and a dog and had a lovely lunch sitting at a picnic table overlooking the lake. We arrived during a bit of a lunch rush but still didn't have to wait too long for what ended up being really delicious burgers, fries, coleslaw, fried pickles and chicken fingers (a really generous portion!)
I have been eating here since i was in a high chair and it is well worth the small drive. The fried fish is amazing and as i have gotten more into drinks they have a great selection as well. Last time i was in the food was just as i remembered from my childhood! A gem for sure in the forested finger lakes!!
If there’s one spot I’m hitting every time I’m in Ithaca, it’s the Glenwood Pines. The Pinesburger is just unreal and the whole place is exactly what a true roadhouse should be. The staff are always so friendly, and when the weather is nice, the outdoor seating can’t be beat. Some of my other favorite items are the crunch burger, wings, fish sandwich, and my sleeper pick, the macaroni salad.
What can I say. Love this cozy, excellent restaurant!!!! The smoked wings are the best we ever tasted. We sat and devoured them, trying our best to savor each bite. The hamburger married the soft roll, dressings, onion, cheese perfectly. Each bite calls out for you to take another. I would not let anyone near the coleslaw!!! Ate it all. All the culinary delights are exquisite. Ample amount of space to eat and enjoy company! The best part is the wonderful bartenders that take your order. They are so nice, so friendly and fun to be around. What a treat!!!
An Ithaca tradition. We always stop in for a Pinesburger when we are in town. This place is casual and friendly. They have easy seating for any size party because there are long picnic tables downstairs. I wouldn't call the food gourmet because it's simple pub fare but in 25 years I've never had a bad sandwich and their fries are delicious.
I'm going to love writing this review. We found this place by accident and came back twice during our visit to Ithaca. The place has a funky vibe and so does the staff. Fun and easy going. Great food and when you sit out on the multiple decks, the view is amazing. Really great drinks (try the Bloody Marys) and the prices are very fair, even inexpensive for the area. We ate at a lot of restaurants on this trip, spent a lot of money on some, but Glenwood Pines was our favorite and probably one of the least expensive even with it's million dollar view.
There were 11 of us celebrating a 5th anniversary with a Cayuga Lake Wine Tour. Stopped at Glenwood Pines for lunch and they could not have been more accommodating and friendly! They even celebrated with us and gave the couple a Glenwood Pines souvenir! It was a great addition to the day and the food was awesome! Have stopped here a few times and they have never disappointed!
Their solution for a burger bun made the burger so good. I had the bacon blue cheese and that was great. The view is also great
What a great little find we sat outside on a beautiful day with views of the lake had a wonderful steak sandwich and my wife had a crab sandwich. Nice selection of beer friendly staff very reasonable prices nice people to sit with as well. Beer was served in their own special plastic glasses, which we were allowed to keep a very nice souvenir.
Had a good experience with the fish fry and fried mushrooms. As others have said, their reliance on single use plastic prevents me from wanting to go often, but I'm excited to stop by in the summer and sit by the lake. The crowd was a lot more college/frat oriented than I expected, but everyone was respectful. There were families there as well.
The best hidden gem in the finger lakes. Down to earth staff and great food. It’s an order everything at the bar type of place. They have seating indoors and outside. There is also a second level with a few games including shuffle board darts golf and pool. Great area to just relax and kill some time. The beer is decent but the food is to die for. Try the Ruben fish sandwich.
The service at Glenwood Pines was exceptional, with attentive staff who were friendly and accommodating. Whether you're a local resident or just passing through, this charming restaurant is a must-visit destination in Ithaca. Trust me, you won't be disappointed!
Comfortable, friendly, roadside dinner with a Beautiful view of Lake Cayuga. We happened by in the fall, so the leaves were beautiful. The food is wonderful. We had the Corn Chowder, Salmon Burger and the Chicken Fingers meal. Each dish was cooked wonderfully. Flavor and freshness were great. You'll also find a myriad of sandwiches, burgers and salads on the menu. I'd definitely stop again.
This place serves its burgers on fresh French bread, which is a subtle, yet excellent twist on a standard burger. For that reason, myself and everyone I know always loves it here. Since Covid, you pick up your food at the bar, and bring it back to your table, but it works. Overall, their burgers (even the burger salad) has been consistently outstanding for as long as I can remember.
Primarily fried food with a few other options. I'm so glad they brought chili and soups back to the specials menu! Rated service a 3 because there isn't table service however the bartenders are fabulous.
Good food at fair prices. Kids menu was portions-appropriate for a kid Wings were Smokey and tasty- the buffalo sauce didn’t have the vinegar zing that is typical but it was still good Burger was cooked well and served on sub bread Game room was neat— perfect for little kids to try out retro games - pinball, etc. Funky decorations made this place really fun to be at.
Had a great lunch here with my boyfriend. Their homemade chips are amazing! Definitely recommend over the fries. I got the chicken sandwich which was a solid choice and the sloppy Joe hot dog special my boyfriend got was even better. For dessert we had the lemon cheesecake which was also really good. Everything was reasonably priced and don't be scared away by the takeout style dining. They have lots of open tables with great views of the lake you're allowed to use, and some fun arcade games in the basement if you're interested.
All food is served as takeout, but there are plenty of tables on multiple levels inside and out where you can eat. While you wait for the food, there is an arcade, shuffle board, and darts. It was actually a little hard to keep track of where my family was going back and forth to get the drinks and food. The lake view is mostly blocked by trees but it is still very pretty. Crab cake sandwich was small but affordable which was nice!
Incredible food, great beers, awesome atmosphere. Glenwood Pines was our harvest host for a night so we came in for lunch as well as dinner. For lunch I went with the pineburger and wings combo. Wow. Every component of this plate stood out. Extremely fresh roll, juicy delicious burger, and 1000 island dressing is a new favorite burger sauce for me. The wings were perfect, juicy and tender, crispy on the outside, and they have an awesome smokey flavor. Dinner was the fresh fish fry, also incredible. The fish was definitely fresh, cooked perfectly. Flakey on the inside, crispy batter. Same goes for the fries. Topped off with a great local IPA. Also, you cannot sleep on that slice of peanut butter pie for dessert. Owner and staff were really great, service was excellent and friendly. Very relaxed and inviting atmosphere. Overall a really awesome place I wish I was closer to, and will go far out of the way to visit again.
The views of the lake are a nice background while enjoying the food at this location! We have been twice now and the food is great. We ordered the marinated chicken sandwich and buffalo boneless wings! Food comes out quickly and seems to be a good portion for the price that we paid! The staff are also friendly and easy to take orders with! Will continue to enjoy the food here. Update: Seriously the wings here are perfect! Super tender inside, crispy outside and unique sauce flavors! Daily specials on different menu items. Great attentive staff that make the experience even more enjoyable. Does get super busy in the summer but the food still comes out quickly, they have the system down right!
Everything is perfect at Glenwood Pines. We visited on a slow Thursday afternoon in the early spring and had the pleasure of being treated like royalty by the owner. Perfect views, food, and libations. Game room with arcade games, pool table, and shuffleboard. Must try the wings and burger 😋 Also, get the best peanut butter pie in the world. Don't skip out on merchandise!
What a great little stop on the way up the lake. Was very busy, and still food came out hot and yummy! When we walked across the parking lot, I said to my husband I wish we could sit on the patio (it's winter so no go), but they seated us downstairs which has the same view of the lake, just inside! Yay!
Had one of the best fish fry’s ever here! We went after an afternoon of hiking the Taughannock Falls trails. It was late and we were all starving. The hostess asked if “downstairs” would be OK. Having never been there, and not wanting to wait, we agreed. The downstairs basically reminded me of a church basement or a fire hall- rows of long, rectangular tables with folding chairs. It was very unusual for a restaurant (hence the 4 stars). However, the service was good, the food arrived quickly and everyone liked what they got
It's pretty standard bar food. The food is edible and they have fair prices for the portions you get. A bit small in terms of space in my opinion. But you do get a nice view of Cayuga Lake. Not a bad place to grab a meal in the summer time which is what I usually do.
The burger is good, but definitely not the best one in Ithaca as they claim. The French fries taste really good. Nice and crispy. One more thing that I experienced one or two times is that they don't cook the burger the way you ask them. I get medium rare every time I ask for medium. Keep that in mind if you care about doneness.
We grabbed a late lunch after a 4.5 mile hike in and around Taughannock Falls. Great outdoor seating with decent views of the lake. Good variety of food plenty of choices of sides. We both got grilled chicken sandwiches, hers was a cordon bleu just grilled, mine was a simple grilled chicken sandwich with bacon and both were good.
Glenwood Pines has adapted nicely during the past couple of years. They have a "new" model of ordering your food and drinks at the bar. The time given to return to pick up your food is very accurate, ours was 25 minutes. We both had the classic Pines burger, jalapeno poppers, and Korean BBQ wings all very tasty. They have nice seating indoors with a lower level game room and more TVs. Outside are several picnic tables with a wonderful view of the lake. I spoke with the owner, a very nice gentleman, who says he started this model during the pandemic and found it helps meet the needs of his customers and the challenge of having enough staff. Be sure to check it out when you are in the area.
Came here on a Friday evening and it was honestly only about half full. You order at the bar here - there aren't any servers so it feels more like a bar than a restaurant (they do have what I believe is a full bar too). I got their famous pine's burger and a side of apple sauce. The burger is served not on a regular hamburger bun, but rather what seemed like a french roll. Honestly, it was a good decision - the bread was really good. However, the rest of the burger was pretty mid in my opinion and I don't know what separates it from other burgers. The food came out fast and the pricing is quite good - I paid about $12 for my whole meal.
The food portions were unbelievable, the food was good. The atmosphere was not wonderful as there was a group of Cornell alumni that were cursing throughout our meal - completely not the fault of the restaurant but took away from us being able to enjoy the meal.
While in Bills territory was looking for a place to try and watch the Eagles game. Both played 1PM on the same network. The owner/mgr made an effort to put RedZone on for us because it was acting up. Had great conversation with him and bartender during the games. Food was good bar food and had great beers on tap. Nice little spontaneous find for a Sunday afternoon!
Good burgers / great wings and a nice view of the lake Thin / smash style burgers so I get the double. Pines sauce is also a great addition and fries are much better than average. Also very good wings - they're rubbed with a nice seasoning and smoked - then finished in the fryer (most places do one OR the other and doing both really steps them up another level) and they have two sauces to pick from if you want to add a little more flavor (Buffalo or Korean BBQ - both excellent) For those looking for a view of the lake, several tables have a nice view through some gaps in the trees, so you can feel like you're eating by the lake. And really, only a couple places in the Ithaca area can say that. My only 'knock' is they don't have a huge beer selection (a few taps) and you have to ask what bottles / cans they have as they don't put up a list. So many great local breweries I wish they had a few more options (they always have a couple though). - also to note - no more 'wait staff' - order food/drinks at the bar and go find a place to sit - they will call your name out, so it helps to not go too far until you have your food.
Ordered two Pinesburgers, one with mayo one with thousand island. Burgers were good, though the onions were overpowering (would recommend without). Both drinks we got were water based, and the water has a very strange and unpleasant taste to it. Would recommend a drink without ice. Overall, $26 for two burgers, a side of fries, and 2 drinks isn’t completely outrageous, but nothing entirely special.
Great location and good views of the lake. All four of our entrees and appetizer were very bland. Service was just okay in that we had to wait forever to get our check. Looked like it was mainly tourists so maybe repeat business isn't what they're going for. Closest thing to the Inn at Taughannock so it was easy.
Ate here about a month ago and wasn't bad so went again last night. (Sept 5 21) Ordered before we left home for 6pm. My wife had the fish and enjoyed it, I as always ordered a Tully Burger. We picked up the order at 6pm and ate at one one of the picnic tables. My burger was a huge disappointment. It had one little piece of lettuce, two little strands of onion, very thin tomato, the bun was dried out and fell apart when I picked it up. The meat itself was good tho.not warm. It was like a Burger King that had been sitting all day. I ate it but wish now I had donated it back to them so they could sell it again.Guess they had a veggie shortage last night. Good way to ruin a business.
It's different from most places. To pay for lunch you order from the bar by looking at the only menu on the wall. My burger was on a slice of french roll. That's different. They have windows to the parking lot but the building could have a view of the lake. The bill was high for two burgers and two beers$$
Got a burger and a fish sandwich to go. Asked for the burger to be cooked medium and ended up with well done. The fish sandwich was on the dry side. First time trying Glenwood Pines. May have been an off night for them, but I'd give them another chance in the future.
I've been here many times over the years and always had great food and good times. However, in November 2023, the food was great, the service was good, BUT I was very disappointed in the atmosphere. All the food and drink is served in disposable containers, that you have to retrieve yourself at the bar yourself. There is absolutely no wait service at your table. It's like going to Burger King, but more expensive. Why would I want to eat my food out of a white to-go box and my drink out of a plastic disposable cup while looking out at the beautiful lake? I can't even imagine the amount of trash created by severing everything with disposables. Maybe I'm old and grumpy, but I like to eat my food off a real plate and not feel like I'm at a Fast-Food joint.
Love the pines burger and the smoked wings are amazing! Don't love ordering at the bar and getting take out containers to carry back to my table.. I'm sure it's just the price of doing business in NY.
Used to have a 5 star review, but unfortunately I think they have gone down hill a little. The bartender/ server seemed angry as everyone was coming in. I ordered a rare burger and it came out looking like medium well (I didn't care enough to send it back or anything, but others may care more). I had a side of salad with Italian dressing, and their dressing may as well have just been olive oil. I am assuming they just make a large batch and then pour into the plastic containers without bothering to mix it first. There is nothing wrong per se with Glenwood Pines, but the service has gotten worse (servers also don't actually serve anymore, you have to go up to get your little to go containers and plastic cups), the food hasn't gotten any better, and the prices have gone up (which is understandable). Value overall now is just simply worse, and the kitchen is less consistent. Luckily these are relatively easy issues to solve. Hope to bring my review back to 5 stars after my next visit.
Why so much Styrofoam? Is this still 1990 when we haven't learned about ruining our planet with plastic that isn't ever recycled? We simply wanted to sit on their patio to enjoy our food, and they wouldn't serve the sandwich in anything but Styrofoam. Their dumpster is piled with these huge air-filled single-use plastic containers. The food sufficiently meets expectations to soak up some beers, sandwiches are decently priced, and the fry-fry broccoli bites are dopamine hits. But please serve this in something responsible.
Stopped for a very late lunch. $9 sandwiches that were just sandwiches. Fish was good size on French bread which was a tad thick, toasted would be better. Crunch burger OK, very enjoyable Montreal Angus sirloin. A side of fries were not huge. Desserts of rice pudding and carrot cake were good.
Food was average, good but not up to the hype. Hated ordering at bar and then waiting around to get food... No personal attention then having to tip.. it was counter service like a McDonald's. But atmosphere is nice.
Casual bar/restaurant along Cayuga Lake. Lots of seating available when we were there, but it's off-season. Not sure what it would be like at other times. Food is all served in carry out containers, so serve yourself and eat after you order. Prices reflect the more casual atmosphere. Outdoor seating gave glimpses of the lake on our visit. We ordered two meals; one was a fish reuben sandwich, which was served with none of the defining ingredients. It was a fish sandwich... we had to return to the bar to obtain the cheese, sauerkraut, and dressing. Overall, food was ok, but it didn't hit a homerun with us.
We were not impressed with the food nor the service. All food is A la carte so for $40 we got 2 charred cheeseburgers and small portions of sides that were not very good. The fries were soggy and the bread tasted like a day old sub roll that got burned on a grill. The corn fritters were decent. After ordering we waited patiently for everything including 2 sodas. After seeing multiple people who came after us get their drinks we inquired about the sodas and the girl laughed and said "oh..I forgot about those" and walked away while another guy got them. The bathroom door has a shotty lock and some dude randomly barged into the ladies room on my friend. All around just a bad time. Will not return.
Was looking forward to trying the infamous “Pines Burger” Unfortunately, it turned out to be just a regular burger on a sub roll, thin patty. Chili’s has a burger that is way better. The smoked wings and the coke slaw were good. I was definitely not impressed with the burger. Nice lil place to eat as well.
This used to be one of our favorite places. So disappointed. The restaurant fails to meet expectations since they changed their business model from a cozy sit down family restaurant to a McDonald’s stare at a menu on the wall, wait for your food, and then bus your own table type of place. They use only disposable takeout containers that made me cringe for the environment. Food was alright I suppose. probably won’t be going back.
Ordering is slow and laborious. Atmosphere is sad and screams of a business that cut costs in the name of profit and the customer service be damned. Everything is served in disposable containers and really diminishes the dining experience.
Great views, atmosphere is amazing, bartender is great, owner can’t melt blue cheese on a burger. Everything served in to-go containers. Waste of a solid location. Under seasoned, sysco provided basic. Go to Wendy’s unless you want a great view of the lake, otherwise, pack a picnic.
We had the fish and chips, they did allow for changing sides so that was nice. The restaurant is carry out only, no dining inside, except for a few people who were drinking inside??? I also ordered their Bloody Mary which was advertised as being great... I asked if it was that great and the lady said YES, well maybe. Her second statement was more accurate, it was spicy, but that was all. It was bottom shelf vodka and not good at all. The fish was soggy and not very good. My son had the fries and he didn't like them. So, for $42 plus tip... we went and got another dinner elsewhere. I will not be returning and do not suggest anyone else does.
Once a cozy , friendly place I often went to for decades. This time I asked for a table for myself and two visitors. The guy at the counter rudely said "the menu is on the wall, order and pick up here". Can we sit downstairs? "The menu is on the wall, order and pick up here". Turns out there is no longer waitstaff, you find or share a table, everything is plastic (utensils, cups, dinner boxes), the salad is soggy and dressing terrible, the food not close to its previous incarnation and they don't even inform you when your order in the plastic bag is ready. I was embarrassed I took friends there and will never return. The only good thing at this fast food location was that they didn't ask if everything was O.K. I miss the Pines!
It used to be great but now the new kid who owns it has wrecked it no more great waitresses food on plates and pool and video and bowling right in the door if you like food in styrofoam you’ll love this place
If you want a sit down dining experience, you won't find it here...We stopped in for dinner and found a table sit at to wait for a server. We waited for awhile and finally went up to the bar and asked the female bartender, "Are we supposed to order here?" She snidely replied, "Umm...yeah!" Then asked, "What do you want??" I replied, "Idk...What do you have?" She then rolled her eyes and said, "The menu is over there!", while pointing to the wall. So, we looked at the "wall" menu and then, put in our order. Finally, they called my name, so we had to go back up to the bar, and our order was in to-go containers and we found a table to sit at, but didn't have any silverware or napkins. So, my Husband went back up and she told him where they were. The food was mediocre and the service was practically non existent...Honestly, you would get better service from a cafeteria. We will never spend another dollar at this establishment!
It’s taken me a while to write this. A stages of grief thing, I guess. This place was a local treasure for decades. So many great memories for my wife and me and our kids, not to mention dozens of friends, their families, and out-of-town guests. Sadly, the memories are all that’s left. That and the view. Everything else is gone. The good food, the great service — the whole experience — all a thing of the past. We all miss “The Pines”.
Absolutely not. Waited 8 years to come to this place. Finally came for Father’s Day and it was massive let down. This had to have changed ownership or something? The “famous” burger, which is why we came, was overcooked and rubbery, had 2 small wilted fragments of iceberg lettuce on it, some wet tomatoes, a barely there speck of some special sauce. Had zero flavor. We actually all agreed we wish we would’ve just gotten the burgers at the concession stand at Taughannock. The food was like a lesser version of concession food. Also the juices and soda are all off and have a very weird flavor. Maybe an issue with their fountain machine.
A far cry from what this place used to be is realy all that can be said about the place. You come in, have to stand in line at the bar to order your food, have to wait around the area for a good 20 minutes to pick it up in a plastic box with a pair of plastic utensils.. McDonalds has a greater Restaurant feel, than this has now. COVID is just not an excuse anymore. It's been years. So quit cutting cost, on customers expense! Not serving people, no customer service to speak of, but sure willing to take a tip. Just to bad, we used to love to stop there when visiting. Won't happen again. Very dissapointing
Beware the parking lot! Someone thought it would be a good idea to put a dangerous rock by the curb to the street, perhaps so cars don't cut the curb. But the rock, and the curb itself, are too low to see from a higher SUV. We hit the rock and it dragged our muffler. The nearest place to look at our muffler is hours away. The sign on the door said the owner had closed for the week.
Just a waste of good money. I just wanted a burger well done. Burger was not well done and leaked red onto the bun. If your talking atmosphere the air was pleasant and clear. There is no service. You pick up the food in a throw-away container and go outside and throw it away. Cannot reccommend.
Was painful to eat this salad. The water was the worst I have ever tried. Must have washed the salad with it. The sandwiches had hard bread. Do not have any options for gluten free. On the right side had a decent view. Will not be returning and neither should you. 0 service as you have to order and pay at the bar.
