Good thai place!

I didn't know anything about Silver Lake House other than its location and that it served Thai food, so I had 0 expectations. My friend wanted to come here and I have to say that it was a pleasant surprise! This is one of my top favorite Thai spots in LA. It's pretty much a house with both indoor and outdoor seating areas. Food: 1) Papaya Salad - probably the best that I've ever tried. It was so flavorful and it had a decent spicy kick. 2) Pork Jerky - I was expecting a tough dry meat but it was actually very flavorful, juicy and tender. 3) Pad Thai - Delicious. Got that dank sweet and savory situation going on 4) Tom Yum - Light, limey, flavorful broth. 5) Pad See Ew - flavor was a little lighter than some other Thai spots but still yummy and the beef was tender. 6) Mango with coconut sticky rice - order this for dessert if it's in season. Service: Pretty good. They were friendly and checked in on us frequently. Parking: If you're not familiar with Silver Lake, parking is quite the ordeal. Street parking is limited.

This is one of my favorite restaurants in LA. If we ever can't think of a place to go this ends up being the default spot. The ambiance is amazing. Sitting outside in their patio around sunset is one of my favorite spots to be. The prices are very good as well and never feel like I'm spending too much money. The location is great, only a couple blocks from the Silver Lake Reservoir. I can't speak highly enough about this place. Silver Lake House will always be special to me.

4.5 stars rounded up. Food is good. They give more meat than you’d expect, which is a pleasant surprise. Parking is easy. Service is quick and warm. Tom Kha was bomb. Pad Thai was mid to above average. Lacked some flavor and the noodles weren’t great. But again, the Tom Kha was excellent.

Best athai food I've ever had. The service was so quick we were pleasantly surprised Had the crispy rolls, summer rolls, Thai in papaya salad, green Thai curry, pad Thai And it's in the middle of trees and plants, what a beautiful peaceful ambience :) Everything was delicious. Can't wait to h back :) P.S. don't have photos cos we just stuffed our faces as soon as the food was kept on the table :D

Imagine you are me and all your friends want to get together for a dinner in Silverlake. Where do you go? One friend suggests The Silver Lake House by Leela Thai, saying she went once with a friend who has since moved away, gotten married, and unfollowed her on Instagram. Of course I agree and hope this place is as good as she remembers. It’s better. This is the kind of place that is so powerfully charming and delicious it makes you want to return to create new memories to replace the old ones with old friends who have removed themselves from your life. I got the massaman curry. It was rich, complex, and light. I was so delighted. Oh yes, and this place even has a cat who makes the rounds. It is not a weird cat, it is a gray cat.

This is some of the best Thai food we have ever had. Fresh ingredients and many unique flavors. Drunken Dumplngs are to die for!

My favorite Thai restaurant in LA. I lived in Thai Town and would still drive down here. They have a really cute patio, it's mostly covered outdoor seating but there are some indoor spots as well. Prices are reasonable, food is amazing, and my service is always great.

So damn good. Great after a walk around the Silverlake reservoir. We were able to walk in and get a table in their backyard seating without any reservation on a Thursday evening. Food was delicious although could be a bit spicier, loved the atmosphere out back.

Nicholas Popovac

Great little Thai restaurant! So glad it was open with all the patio seating it has. Portions are great and offering of small or large servings depending on party size. Don't be afraid to ask for low spice if its too much for you. Everyone was super helpful and quick to accommodate. Parking is non existent so prepare for a walk. That is the only problem I had. Great excuse to walk off my indulgence.

I ordered via DoorDash. Generous portions and each item was delicious! I got a Thai tea with boba, crab rangoons, pad see ew, and the crepe cake. (I treated myself lol) the only weird thing was I ordered pad see ew with beef and they included both beef and chicken, wasn’t a huge deal since I like both. Fair priced as well

One of the best thai food restaurants. I went there with friends and family this afternoon. It wasn't too busy. We ordered vegetarian food and they had plenty of options. Their menu is really extensive! The service was great. Food got delivered within 10 minutes of ordering it. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking to enjoy some thai food.

This has to be hands down. The best Pad Thai in LA. Sooooooo goooood and yummmy. Price was roughly $20. Thai Tea was soooo good too. I recommend 100%

Wow! What a perfect spot. I could just sit here all day and eat and look at the scenery. Loved the outdoor dining area, and the lunch specials were a great deal. Hell the whole menu was a great deal. I’m coming back and never leaving! Food was delicious. Service is also great, with the waitress knowing everyone and the locals chatting it up! Too cute.

I ate here the other night with my partner and WOW it might have been the best thai restaurant we've ever been to! He is a chef and so we are very particular when it comes to eating out - and this place truly blew us away. The wonton pad thai is one of the best dishes I've ever eaten I am literally still thinking about it. We had to wait a bit for a table but once we were in, the service was so fast and good. Super affordable and absolutely delicious, we will be back if we're ever in LA again!

W

Omg, this place has the best vibe & super amazing food!!! Everything was great BUT my daughter wanted the Spicy Chicken Wings & asked if she could request mild, the server said no, so she then ordered the shrimp dish. We'll the couple next to us was chatting with us & we noticed he ordered ordered the wings & the server accommodated his request for mild seasonings. Other than that you will love The Silver Lake House!!!

Having grown up in Vancouver, I have a high standard for Asian food and this place is quite good. The atmosphere is nice - especially the garden seating area. We got the Drunken Noodle, Tom Kha soup and Crab Fried Rice. All the dishes tasted delicious. If I had to nitpick, the beef in the Drunken Noodles were a bit thick and the Crab Fried Rice lacked a bit of flavor. This isn’t to say it wasn’t great - these are slight preference developed from eating at hundreds of Thai restaurants. Service was also quite good. Portions were also good. For the price, the value was great.

What a terrific find. We were in LA for a few days and I can tell you we had a variety of dishes and all were so authentic, fresh, fabulous!! Recently, I was I was in Bangkok, and this was so on par with the real deal. Staff is so nice and efficient, cool vibe all around..you can’t go wrong!!!

S
S Kirupa

Everything was a 10/10 - There is a really charming outdoor space in addition to indoor seating. The wait time for the food to arrive was minimal. The quality of the food & drinks is on par to what you’d get in Thailand! We ordered all vegetarian dishes - tofu pad thai, tofu larb, drunken veg dumplings, summer rolls. I don’t see the thai iced green tea offered at most Thai places (outside of Thailand) so I couldn’t help but order it when I saw it on the drinks menu. It tasted exactly how they taste from the street vendors in Thailand!!! Price is unrivaled with the portion sizes and quality! Will definitely be going back.

BEST THAI RESTAURANT IN LOS ANGELES! Truly an amazing restaurant with brilliant chefs and employees! They are so friendly and welcoming. A cozy spot with outdoor seating options. Had the best Tom yum soup in LA so far at this place!! It is full of flavor yet not too salty or oily, and it is clean. After dining here, I craved their Thai food for an entire week. All my friends live their food too!

The food is so good! And worth the price, love coming here the service is good and the wait is short once you’ve ordered. We got here around 6? On a Friday and the rush didn’t hit until like 8:00 but it did hit. Parking can be rough around peak hours for sure it’s on a Main Street! We got the cream cheese rangoons, Tom kha, spicy glass noodles, and pineapple curry! It was so good and filling the portions were good as well we had left overs. I also got the Thai tea with almond milk instead of half n half since they have that option!

It was my friend Lisa's birthday and we didn't know where to go. So I said "We're just going to find an amazing fun place that's perfect for us to celebrate your birthday." We stopped the car (we were driving through from a different area of town) and did a quick online search and saw photos of this place with a beautiful outdoor ambience. We showed up and saw that there happened to be a "Happy Birthday" sign up. When we asked about it the server said that they keep the sign up because "It's always someone's birthday." We laughed. The Thai food was flavorful and we ordered fresh coconuts. Certainly a cute gem of a restaurant.

Lovely lovely food! Really couldn't not fault it! The service was great too, we got tap water as soon as we arrived. You'll need a smartphone to scan the QR code for the menu. Reasonably priced too.

Healthy and Delicious! I ordered the pineapple fried rice with Tofu, veggies, onion, curry powder, pineapple, and cashew nuts; and the ginger fish. Both were great together. Very easy to deliver and arrived on time, the perfect temperature.

This place has lots of options for anybody who likes different types of Thai and far Eastern type of food. Food tastes great and your're surrouded with nature when sitting inside which is outside at the same time as it's inside. Service is also great. I would definitely recommend trying it and seeing for yourself. I usually get the seafood soup, never fails. As a licensed Gereral B Contractor and Construction Company InnovativeConstructions.US, I sometimes have projects in the area so I eat here once in a while. Go try it for sure.

On vacation from Chicago and this is some of the best Thai we’ve ever had! The place was super busy and we had to put our names on their wait list sheet. It took 20/30 minutes but completely worth it. They’re a little understaffed but if you’re patient you can experience some amazing food! Panang Curry, Pad See Eiw, Summer Rolls, Rangoons all 10/10!

D

Great patio, I thought ambiance outside is better than inside. All of the staff was very good and friendly, and food was excellent for the price. Price, ambiance, and food is why I give it a 5. Sure, you can get fine dining and more refined at a high price, but you can eat here for the same price as a fast food joint or a strip mall. Even my kids enjoyed and want to go back.

J
Julia Gutierrez

Really really cute spot with a great ambiance! I loved the jungle-like patio and the overhead lights were a nice touch. The service was kind and attentive and the food was delicious! I had the tofu pad see ew and it was a great mix of broccoli, noodles, and egg. They have a pretty extensive vegan menu too if you need one!

I'm literally considering moving here just to be near this place. $11 lunch special this good?? I'm very particular about my pad kra pao basil stir fry... Most places can't hit all the requirements. Spicy, sweet, tangy, and with the chicken cooked properly. This one nailed it and then some 🤌🔥

S

We went here on a Sunday night before a show at the echo and had a great meal for a really reasonable price. I ordered the Tom kha soup with shrimp and drunken veggie dumplings, which were both really good and came out super fast. We sat inside, which is very charming, and it has a really cute patio area as well! Highly recommend!

A quaint and cozy, but somehow vibrant all at once, place to get the best Tom Kha soup I've ever had in my entire life. I wish this place existed in Canada in Calgary because I'm craving it and will be for the rest of forever until I can get back to LA. The staff were just so friendly, and the dishes came fast. If I could rate this 10 stars, I would! Make sure to visit in LA!

This place is fantastic. We originally weren't sure what to expect when we got here late on a Friday night and were the only customers here. But it must be the season or that this place is an inconspicuous gem, because the food was really good, the service was good, and the portions were generous. We'll definitely be coming back!

Silver Lake House is a wonderful neighborhood gem with incredible Thai food. Authentic, tasty, generously-sized portions, and with a full vegetarian menu, this establishment offers something for everyone and has never disappointed me! The Larb Duck is one of my favorites, as is their Pad Thai Boran. On weekdays, they also have fantastic lunch specials that are truly unbeatable. I've brought so many friends here over the years, and we all keep coming back! They can get pretty busy during prime time, so expect a short wait during dinner at times, but the food is without a doubt 100% worth it.

Best Thai food in Silver Lake. The staff are great and were very accomodating to our requests. The outdoor area has a nice ambiance with string lights and was spaced out nicely. Nestled in a little pocket of trendy restaurants, The Silver Lake House (by Leela Thai) scores on nice patio ambience, attentive service, and good selection of Thai, Chinese, and other Asian dishes. Having lived in Thailand six years, I was excited to try my favorites: Tom Kha Gai, Penang Gai, Som Tum Thai, Gra Prow Nui,. Goong Kratiem Prik Thai, Khao Soi, and Pad Thai. The soup was good, but lacking in ingredients... no ginger root or lemongrass stems, but instead only chicken, mushrooms, and oddly, cabbage. The Penang chicken was ok and as expected. The papaya salad was very good. The basil beef was the biggest disappointment. This dish is a favorite I have everywhere (with chicken) and it was lacking flavor and had tough beef. The garlic pepper shrimp was all wrong. Normally it is dry crusted with black pepper and garlic. This was just smothered in sweet chili sauce that is normally used for spring rolls. The khao soi was almost right, but the noodles were wrong... ramen type noodles were used instead of flat lomein type noodles. And there was no chicken drumstick! Finally, the pad thai was just ok. I've had way better two minute street pad thai in Thailand. All in all, good portions, decent prices, friendly service, great ambience, and mostly good food.

I’ve never been disappointed. I’ve been visiting this place for years. Enjoy their lunch and Combo special. Very pleasant location for summer and winter.

Great portions and food quality! Will be sure to visit when I’m back in LA.

Separate Vegan menu. We tried the Spicy fried rice, Yellow curry, Pad See Ew, Spicy Spaghetti, and the sauteed Green Bean. All were good, but ai would have preferred it a little more spicy.

Tasty food and great service for such a busy Friday night. Can't wait to go back and try the BBQ chicken which was sold out. Prepare to wait but it's worth it.

The food was particularly good - especially the tofu apetizer. I can’t say I was blown away but we definitely enjoyed it. The atmosphere is very nice too and not expensive.

This is a quaint restaurant that has been serving Thai food for so many years. The owners have kept and displayed napkin doodles, postcards and notes from their customers. These are haphazardly displayed on the dining tables under a glass top. The staff is knowledgeable and helpful. The food was served at a nice pace. We loved the fancy shrimp salad and dusty pig . The Tom yum, pad Thai and pad see ew were too sweet compared to other places. The satay chicken was flavorful. We ordered too much and there was no room for the mango sticky rice.

The Silver Lake house is a local institution that serves some delicious food at a wonderful price! This family owned and operated restaurant offers a wonderful lunch special from 11 to 3pm 5 days a week for $7.95 starting. You can get chicken and mix vegetables along with the egg roll and side salad all for that price, nowhere else in town you can beat this and the quality is good. I highly recommend stopping by this Silver Lake restaurant. They offer sidewalk dining but I prefer the garden dining that is wonderful and you're surrounded by nice plants. It's a great place for family, friends, single or for parties.

The food is delicious, I’ve been many times and tried different dishes and they are all excellent. The place is nice too, has a beautiful patio. The only problem is that sometimes it takes too long to get your food and it’s very common that they will bring the food to one person in the table and the rest will be watching for a long time before they receive theirs 🫤 anyway I keep going back because the food is really good.

The ambience and food were great. I enjoyed the drunken noodles, crispy roll, and tom kha soup. The dishes had lots of flavor and not too greasy. It was a bit packed when we were there so service was slow that night.

The food was excellent but the service was trash. We didn’t have a designated server and had to keep flagging the staff multiple times to order food and request napkins. When it was time to pay, the wait staff were very attentive. We ordered the chicken satay (yum!), lettuce wraps, fancy shrimp salad (yummy dressing) and chicken broccoli noodles…oh and the gnats were too invasive.

This restaurant's biggest issue is consistency. I've been a few times due to convenience, and it's either pretty good, or incredibly bland (mostly had the curries and appetizers, and this is trying the same item multiple times), and i would say it's about 50/50 at this point for the times I've gone

The chicken pad see ew was pretty good and flavorful but the beef in the chef ka pow is tough, dry and salty

I am a big fan of Thai food, and I've tried many good Thai restaurants in LA and OC areas. Honestly, I was very very disappointed: the 4.7 rating does not fit my expectations at all. - First of all, street parking is very tough because it is on the main road where many cars pass by. I'm not sure the parking area in the back of the building is for the customers. - Second, they do not provide tap water, so you should expect to pay extra bucks for Arrowhead. - Third, I'm healthy guru who tried not to consume much sodium, and I often advise my mother about cooking less salty food. But, what this restaurant served was so salty, even for my mother who consumes lots of salty food. I started to think they deliberately made the food very salty so that people wouldn't be able to stand without drinks. The two extra stars come from the outdoor seating's environment and vibes. The trees were outstanding and good place to eat and chill. It would be better when you go during evening when it's dark and the lights are on. However, there were so many flies that we were so distracted from trying to enjoy the food. Since it's in Silver Lake area, the atmosphere around there is generally good, and it's a couple of minutes away from the lake by walking. I eat Panang Curry wherever I go for Thai food, and this place's Panang Curry was a big disappoinment for me. Pad Thai was too salty. Generally, everything is salty, so I asked later dish to be made less salty. But, I believe this place's saltiness may suit for many people.

We came here after seeing the good ratings and decided to give it a try. The place is cute, especially the outdoor patio. It was a bit cold and there weren’t heaters near our table, but we were given the option to sit inside, which was nice. The menu has a lot of options. We kept it classic with dumplings to start, then pad thai and pad see ew. There was a bit of an awkward moment with the service. A waitress dropped off an unopened can of Diet Coke that we hadn’t ordered. We mentioned it, thinking it was just a simple mistake, but then our waitress came back insisting we had ordered it, pulling out her notes. It wasn’t a big deal, but it created a slightly weird vibe over something that was clearly a miscommunication. Food-wise, portions are generous. My pad thai had a lot of tofu, which I wasn’t expecting since I ordered chicken. Flavor-wise, it leaned on the sweeter side, which just isn’t my personal preference, so I was a bit disappointed. Overall, nothing was truly bad, but it just didn’t do it for me. Probably more about personal taste than anything else.

For Thai food, I think there are much better places nearby. The service felt chaotic. It was very busy and loud. The food wasn’t as spicy as I’d hoped, and some of the flavors were missing.

We were excited to go but the customer service was disappointing. They wiped all of the tables in our area for the parties next to us and left ours dirty. They also took the orders of people that arrived after us before taking ours, and we were not checked on as often or treated with the same warm attitude. The unequal treatment was off putting. In regard to food, the wonton soup was good, but the chicken in the thai red curry was underwhelming.

Got a Penang curry, boat noodle soup, and crab fried rice, with spice level medium. They gave three day old rice with the curry. Literally it’s yellow and dry, just like how my rice would be like in the rice cooker for 60 hours. We asked the waitress about it and she said they are fresh, which I doubt. The curry wasn’t spicy at all, only sweet. Noodle was okay… nothing special. Also never had crab fried rice where the egg was separately placed on top. Most unsatisfied meal I’ve had. Don’t know how they got such a good rating. Oh right and the plates were that clean :/

Very poor quality orange Chicken, I literally had to search for any type of meat, everything else was like leftover scraps underneath the frying pan after cooking fried Chicken. The cream cheese rag... was the only thing that saved the meal.

Second time here and this time was not as good experience as the first time. I was on a date with my husband. Service was not good this time, (we had 4 different waiters) and we didn't get our food at the same time. I had to wait 8 minutes for my food and at that point my husbands food was getting cold. Green curry was very good, even if they missed to make it "Thai spicy" in the kitchen. The world beef is good but a bit "simple" and bland. Try the Thai ice coffee, it's delicious!

It’s proper the sweetest pa thai i’ve ever had, and it’s weird. I asked for medium spicy but i can’t taste the spice at all so i asked for hot sauce twice and it never came. i think ill never come back again.

Positives: Service and atmosphere is great for a casual get together albeit somewhat packed, and visually, the food looks great. Negatives: Very disappointed by the use of old ingredients in every dish we ordered (pad thai, panang curry, papaya salad). I could tell based on texture and flavor that every meat we had was pre-cooked/frozen and simply reheated in the wok/curry before serving. The outside of the cabbage had dark spots on the edges and marks like it was nibbled on by a bug.

I tried the larb duck. It had a lot of dry parts. When I asked the employee, she said this was the normal service. I think it was reheated a few times or burned in the oven. If this is the normal service, it is definitely not my style. Those who will order should take this into consideration. Creepe cakes are different and original. I can give 3.5-4 stars for this dessert.

Service wasn’t good and chicken was dry, but I seen in other reviews that it is an occurring issue. I accidentally spilled the Thai iced tea right when I got it, and told the waiter with an apology but they asked me rudely to change table, and gave me looks as I should feel shame for the mistake.

So disappointed! We were a party of two and were forced to leave our table when almost ready to eat so staff could accommodate another party of people, when in fact they had more than plenty of space at another section of the restaurant, service was extremely slow this time, when called to speak with the manager or person in charge no one was available to receive my complain they said, hostess thought she was right and we customers were wrong, we are not coming back, did the travel from Glendora for nothing..what a shame!!!!!

Food is below average. Service is absolutely terrible. Extremely slow service and we were not checked on, not even once. Parking is nonexistent. Lots of other Thai food options in the area that are better than this one.
