Checked out the bar, more of a speakeasy, Saturday night. Drinks are amazing, had a Smokey Jane Old Fashioned and a Lady Austen. Only criticism is it really needs to stay open later- at least the bar. This area desperately needs a good cocktail bar that stays open later than 10.

A friend took me here last night and I truly enjoyed myself. The ambiance was delightful and intimate, the waiter was amazing (thank you Robert) and the food was delicious 😋 I will be back.

Another gem from owner Josiah. I have been 3 times and will be back many more. Great service and even better food! Definitely try the shrimp Louie salad, it’s great to split for the table.

Beautiful atmosphere right along the marina. Delicous good as well - especially the shrimp Louie. Also an amazing fresh seafood tower.

The salmon egg Benedict was so good. The potatoes were perfect. So was the granita mimosa! Can't wait to go back. ❤️

A perfect dining experience! Professional, yet easy going attentive wait staff, absolutely delicious food, all delivered at just the appropriate time. The dining room has a warm ambience with marina views and at sunset it was lovely… highly recommend!

The wait was worth it!!!!! After hearing that the sister restaurant, Dear Jane’s was going to open, my family and I went to celebrate my wife’s birthday and WOW!!!!! We could not be more impressed. Only opened 3 weeks, this place is awesome and the food is wonderful. The cocktails are unique and delicious, the service is great and to see the owners on the floor hustling to make our experience special, meant so much. We’re definitely going to be regulars.

The yellowtail carpaccio was excellent, the calamari was solid, and the trout amandine was even better than the sand dabs. Great cocktails and wine selection too; that's why our bill was so high! The atmosphere is old school and relaxed, you can go with friends, bring your older family members for some nostalgia, or get cozy with a date.

So much fun! We sat outside, it was such a lovely night. The food was delish, we had the chopped salad, the fries well done and the blackened Salmon in this sauce that was so so tasty! Pro tip, order the Louis dressing and dip the fries in that! All the service (bussers, servers, water people) was so attentive! And they take your "doggie bags" and keep it for you so you get it on the way out, so thoughtful!!

Incredible food in a gorgeous setting, both inside and out. We came for the seafood but loved everything we had. The sand dabs, the tuna tartare, the wedge salad were standouts. And don't miss dessert!

Dear Jane's, You offer Delicious cuisine and a great Speakeasy bar! You provide Excellent service along with so much fun! …and you are located on the Marina, which is perfect for a nighttime stroll after dinner by the boats! Cheers!

Dear Janes is a fun spot for date night or grabbing a bite solo. My partner and I like going to the bar, the ambiance and decor is just right. In summary: Excellent service, sand dabs, trout almondine, tuna tartar, Delicous. Ambience elegant but captures charm of the Marina. Fun artwork. Would go back many times and hope Dear Janes sticks around for a while! P.s. to those complaining. Yes, the valet is $15 and oysters blah blah. It’s LA, not Ohio. Get over it, this business has enormous rent to cover and staff so instead of complaining show local business some support for putting in the effort. When eggs cost $10 a business has to do what it can to survive

Really everything we ordered here is so delicious we started with a yellowtail carpacio and then had a shrimp Louis salad which we thoroughly enjoyed. We finished with The sandabs with the creamed spinach. Loved sitting at the bar area it was really trendy alive and super fun also really enjoyed the cocktails

1st time there. The salmon melted in my mouth. So enjoyed the ratatouille. Although short staffed, our server did not forget us. Do check out the lemon pudding dessert.

We had dinner for two last night and loved everything about this place. We started in the bar where we were able to take advantage of some happy hour cocktails and aps.. oysters and scampi dishes terrific and a cool vibe ambience. Then we had a wonder table for two in the main dining area with a gorgeous view of the boats. Started with a great wedge salad which we split and the most incredible bread ever which was more than worth the price. My partner had the tower for one with incredibly fresh seafood and was really impressed. I opted for the san dabs which were equally wonderful and our server Charlotte was there for whatever we needed. So happy the Marina has a world class restaurant now!

We ordered everything on the happy hour menu. Yellow fin Carpaccio was definitely the winner. Everything was delicious. Lovely experience all around.

I had a pleasant experience at this restaurant. Everything was enjoyable. Sand Dabs are very good. Calamari tasty. Mashed potatoes are perfect. Ratatouille is very good. My Surf and Turf: the steak was first class, excellent. The steak sauce is perfect. Only my stuffed jumbo shrimp did not meet my expectations. Although the sauce was perfect. Dinner was enjoyable. I'm going back to try the Sunday brunch.

We ate here on a late August Friday night. Glad we had reservations. Valet parking was easy. Inside is well layed out: tables and booths look over the marina. There are tables outside too. The bar is where I want to go next - cozy & dark and a great bar. Delicious cocktails. Our server, Charlotte, was a classic professional - well spoken, solicitious, friendly, and able to make helpful suggestions. Thanks! Our party ordered sand dabs, paella, and filets. The mushroom side was awesome. The fries could have been hotter. The sand dabs needed more lemon. The menu is pricey, but well worth it.

I recently had a fantastic experience at Dear Jane! Dining on the marina, we enjoyed the Yellowtail Carpaccio, perfectly cooked Sand Dabs, Creamed Spinach, and flavorful Rice Pilaf. The Banana Foster dessert was a delicious finale. Excellent food, beautiful views, and top-notch service.

We had the oysters, trout, salmon, mashed potatoes, broccolini bread, and a glass of chardonnay. The trout was delicious, the creamy sauce it was sitting in was out of this world. I would highly recommend it. The sides were good as well, especially the broccolini. We had the half shell oysters which out server said came from three different regions. Our server, Jon was very known and attentive. The atmosphere was nice and romantic. We enjoyed the music they played that evening. Your check comes inside a book. When I asked Jon what that was about he explained all of the books are about fish. They only offer valet parking which is $12. Sidenote- it's very dark inside so if you plan on taking pictures here's your warning. Lol

We went on Christmas Eve with a party of 4. The restaurant was very busy so it took longer than quoted to get a seat. We got a drink in the meantime. Our server Ryan was friendly and gave us recommendations and was able to get us some small appetizers that wouldn’t take the kitchen too long. We ended up having a steak which was accurately cooked to temp, and my wife had pasta with marinara, which could have been better, to be honest. Still, I would come back, but probably not on Christmas Eve again.

Great service from beginning (on the telephone prior to arrival) to end (patient valet). Great food (chef's special). Especially notable was the considerate and knowledgeable service from our waiter Robert, a rare find. Music was a little too loud early on, but was lowered as the evening progressed.

The service was exceptional at Dear Jane’s. Friendly waiters and very attentive servers. We ordered the caviar fish sticks which we enjoyed. The shrimp Louie served table side was also yummy. Waiter said it’s a big salad but the 2 of us had no problem devouring it. We also ordered the cioppino and sand dabs grenobloise. Seafood is fresh and I enjoyed Dear Jane’s approach to traditional recipes. Ambience is fun and the staff seem to enjoy working together. Would like to come back and try more dishes and drinks.

We traveled from Miami, FL to visit our daughter and we have to say Dear Jane’s exceeded our expectations. We went to brunch, happy hour and dinner. Dear Jane’s has exceptional food, service and atmosphere. Looking forward to returning next year. We recommend it highly.

We've eaten at Dear Jane's five different times with party sizes ranging from 2 to 8. It has become our 'special occasion' fine dining restaurant in MdR. The restaurant and bar is often very busy (and sometimes seems a bit chaotic), but they always seem to deliver great cocktails, wine selection and delicious food. It's a seafood-centric menu that even die-hard carnivores will enjoy.

Love the views of the Marina. Great service from start to finish. Loved the oysters, calamari, the chopped shrimp Louie (delicious), vongole with linguine, salmon and sea bass!!! There was four of us so we ordered a bunch of plates and just shared everything and there was more than enough. Definitely a great evening!

Was able to grab a table while in town for a trip. The trout almondine, lobster, shrimp Louie salad and tuna tartare were delicious. I would personally skip the clams casino which were a little over cooked in my opinion. The drinks were also delicious.

My husband and I walked over for Happy Hour. Loved the happy hour options for food and drinks! Service at the bar was great and the atmosphere was cozy and felt very speak-easy! (Coolest bathroom wallpaper EVER!)

First timer here at Dear Jane’s and I loved it! Went with our server Ryan’s suggestions and ordered a side of bread, the wedge salad, blackened ora king salmon, and roasted mushrooms. It was all delicious and I’m happy to have given Ryan my full trust. He and the other staff members we encountered were very friendly and checked in to make sure our dinner date was going well. Even the valet employees were super nice and helpful. Loved the mood of the restaurant and the bar area looked pretty cool. I heard they have a pretty good happy hour too. Will definitely be coming back!

Excellent place with a great view for a special occasion or an evening with friends. Hostess Hanna picked the perfect table based on our request, and server AJ continued this wonderful service for the rest of the evening. This was our second time at Dear Jane’s, and I can see us going regularly. Stand-out dishes: Chef’s Manhattan cocktail, Yellowtail Carpaccio. Fried Calamari, Smoked Fish Dip, Sand Dabs. French Fries

What a nice treat. Got an early reservation for my mother’s birthday dinner and everyone enjoyed. We had the clams casino, oysters rockefeller, vongole, cioppino, and sand dabs. It was the perfect amount for the 3 of us. Last, we shared the sundae which was also nice. Everything was great! If you’re one who enjoys flavorful broth then def try the vongole and cioppino. Service was friendly. When they bring your check, there’s a QR code which allows you to check out with you phone via Toast which is nice. Valet was convenient and attendants were efficient and polite. Thanks for a nice dinner and looking forward to returning.

Originally opened in September 2022, Dear Jane’s is the sister restaurant of Dear John’s, therefore same ownership. Ownership is on record saying: “what Dear John’s is to steak, Dear Jane’s will be to seafood.” It’s located right on the water in Marina del Rey near the boat anchorage so this restaurant has some seriously great views of the harbor filled with boats. Parking is very limited given the location so you’re most likely option will be valet or a pay lot. Inside is quite large with indoor and outdoor seating, as well as a very large private bar area. It’s really dark and moody on the inside and is a great place to spend a few hours. It leans more to the mature and classy side of things so it would also be a great place for a work dinner, in addition to a date spot. Our server was very polite however it did take some time for our dishes to arrive. It was quite crowded so I can’t fault them too much. I started off with the Wedge Salad and really enjoyed it. It was loaded with toppings and felt that it was a good sized portion. For my entrée, I chose a classic California seafood dish, that being the Sand Dabs. It came with three which were not very large, but that is usual for Sand Dabs, however, they were packed with flavor and overall I really enjoyed it. We finished the dinner with a Passionfruit Parfait, and although I was not a huge fan of it because I don’t like bitter flavors, my girlfriend loved it because she does so that could be a good dish to order if you like those flavors as well. Overall, I would recommend Dear Jane’s to anyone searching for a great date, work, or friend dinner spot and I plan to be back in the future to try their brunch.

Such a fabulous gem in the marina with a retro-plush- nautical dinning room, an outside patio tiki bar over looking the boats and a dim lit swanky bar inside with a fire place, great art and tasty tunes that throw you back to a generation you might have never lived, yet still feels nostalgic. Food is an innovative twist on the classics with cocktails that broaden your drinking horizons. Service is great and the hospitality is neighborly. Cool for a place for a sip and a bite, but will easily be your main event for the evening. Highly recommend exploring all the vibes they have to offer.

Great food and cute setting on the marina. We ordered the baked oysters Rockefeller and lobster roll along with a couple of cocktails. I highly recommend the Pure Passion Margarita, and ask for tajin on the rim. We were happy with the food and service and will be back to explore the menu. The only issue I had there was a really wet bathroom floor. Update: we're back two months later, and this time for brunch with the family. Instead of sitting in the extended dining room, we are now sitting by the window with the marina view. We started with drinks. My wife had the bottomless peach mimosas, which were quite good. I had the Bloody Jane with vodka. It was surprisingly chunky in a good way and the perfect balance of spicy and savory. It also happened to be Dine L.A. week, so we all ordered the brunch special with Eggs Benedict and crab cakes. They include a shrimp cocktail and a butter flake croissant/muffin with jam. The shrimp were jumbo in size, but not completely cleaned, as there was visible waste on the shrimp that I had to remove myself. For that, I removed one star. They give two jumbo shrimp and a sizeable croissant muffin. Great service too. Robert was our server for brunch.

We had a very enjoyable meal here. Ben was a super server. If you like Dear Johns this is the perfect seafood complement. As always, the bread was delicious and the butter came in a cute fish shape. We love a place that understands it is the details that matter. At first we were taken a bit back by our appetisers. The carpaccio was swimming in a sauce (which ended up being excellent) and there was no bacon in the Oysters Rockefeller (they serve the more original recipe). However the main course was perfect. Trout almondine and herb crusted sea bass. Our non seafood eater got the chicken parmesan. Sides consisted of creamed spinach (super smooth and fresh tasting), whipped potatoes (a little gluey in texture) and broccolini (they keep the crisp). Dessert was the parfait and it was eaten completely. Would come back, however, Valet only for cars kinda blows, though, and they brought us someone else's car. 😂.

This is an updated review. I’m happy to report that our visit on Friday night was a complete 180 from our last visit. Mike was kind enough to invite us back to make things right this time which he did in spades. We had a beautiful table facing the Marina and each course got better and better. We started with the crab legs, shared a wedge salad, and sipped on cocktails. We really had fa chance to enjoy the food and the service. We both had the sea-bass which was exquisite. I also appreciate that it was wild caught. We had a delicious sorbet for dessert. I will definitely come back again. Thank you for making us feel so welcome. My friend and I will be back again.

Given everything else they just needed to be a little more attentive and to follow restaurant conventions about service that other places mentioned in the Michelin guide have no problems with.

Having enjoyed food at Dear John's, I was happy to celebrate my birthday at Dear Jane's. I was associated with the owner Patti Rockenwagner, years ago and was excited to see this new endeavor. The food was delicious. We had a lovely chopped salad and the Ahi tuna. I had the branzino and my husband had fish and chips. Our friends had the chicken parm and steak. All delicious. The problem for us was the pace and attitude of the server. He was slow to come to our table and every course was "behind" in his own words. I know getting good help at a restaurant with a Michelin-star awarded chef is hard, but it is about training. I have never worked in a restaurant but true or not, I believe that the "Forks" episode of the Bear is a great peek into fine dining restaurants. The waiter apologized for being behind but didn't offer a percentage off the meal or a free dessert. Opportunity lost for goodwill. v.

Great vibe and atmosphere. Wait staff were friendly and helpful and knowledgeable. One odd thing. And I read a similar review mentioning the same thing. We loved our server. A truly good restaurant will hire staff people can feel comfortable with. I cant recall his name. After about an hour as we were heading to the dessert part of the evening, he came to tell us "his shift was over" and another server took his place. While the second guy was fine, we started wondering about the tip, how it would be split, etc. While pleasant, it was just an odd encounter. We did ask and were told it has something to do with mandatory labor laws and the other server was reqd to stop. Just this doesnt happen in most other full 4* restaurants Otherwise a great experience

A bit pricey for the food served. Service is good but food can improve, particularly for the price charged.

Calamari was dark in color suggesting old oil. Salad was great. Sand dabs great as were the oysters. Our server was professional and attentive. Great atmosphere and table.

I was impressed by the quality of food and presentation. The crudo was super fresh and the flavor on the scampi was well balanced. The bar area is a dark and cozy space, perfect for a drink before dinner. The only downsides to this place are the crazy traffic getting there and the lack of parking. There is a 15 dollar valet fee before you even walk in the door. A good way around this is to park in the City Lot about 1/4 mile away and then walk behind the condos on the walkway for a nice stroll to the restaurant. All in all, its a beautiful restaurant worth visiting.

Excellent seafood dishes in a comfortable setting. Good table service from our wanna-be actor waiter. Hostess suffered from new/overly popular restaurant syndrome, as she dealt with the expected overbooking very poorly as we ended up being seated 30 minutes after our reservation. But my biggest problem was the $50 corkage. Outrageous. Offering to waive it if you also buy a bottle is fine if you are four people, but not if you are a couple. And while the wine list is reasonably priced and has some interesting choices, it is also way too young. I'll say it one more time: Please stop trying to make all your money off of beverage sales. Charge a fair price for your food, because that is what I am coming to you for. Part of the pleasure of a fine meal comes from enjoying a bottle from my cellar, and when you charge such a ridiculous corkage fee you take away that pleasure, and then I do not return.

Just had dinner here after reading that this place was Michelin recommended. Ordered the Vongole which was excellent, cockles were fresh and the sauce was superb. If only the linguine was hand made, this dish would be perfect. Next, the potato crusted sea bass for protein which was unfortunately a big miss. The fish was dry and the presentation was pretty ordinary. I'm pretty sure when the Michelin inspectors ate here they did not get the sea bass. Also had the clam chowder which was good, very hearty. Decent vibes, par for the course for venues on the water. Great for romantic dates as I see multiple tables turning on their phone flashlight to be able to read the menu. Probably the smallest restaurant (unless I missed a closed off section) I've been to where parking is valet only. We did have a very late lunch inside the hotel because we were behind schedule. By the time we realized we were still kinda full it was so close to our reservation time that we decided to go anyway. Finally, what attracted me to the place aside from the recommendation were their appetizers such as their seafood tower and oysters on-the-half shell. I suspect this is where they really shine. Definitely still worth giving them a try as anyone can have an off day.

Seafood tower had loster, stone crab, scallops, clams, shrimp, and oysters with four tyoes of sauces. Rockenwagner bread came hot and crispy with a light texture. I asked the waiter for a cocktail with Mezcal and grapefruit, which was delicious. The service was excellent. Tables not too close together. View was great, with yachts floating by. Only negative was the $15 mandatory valet parking fee (no other parking in the area).

Happy Hour on a Friday. Wonderful place, friendly staff and good Happy Hour deals. The food is really great...the Fish and Chips tastes amazing. The atmosphere is dark and moody but high end. Bar feels very East Coast...LOVE IT!!!

First off, the valet is $15 which is outrageous, and there is not another option. Starts the evening off on a sour note. The service is good and the food is above average for a marina view restaurant. The bar is dark but good vibes.

Disappointing. I was here for dinner with 2 friends. None of us liked our entrees. My mushroom ravioli was very salty. The restaurant is very noisy. The valet parking was $15 which is outrageous!

Moved next door and tried this place out. I had the scampi and bread. The bread tasted 5 days old, warmed up and the scampi had a rotted smell. I will try again but would have rather driven somewhere else today.

The food was delicious, but the table service did not match the white tablecloths and fine-dining prices—$200 for two appetizers, two entrees and one nonalcoholic beverage. We were still enjoying our appetizers when the food runner arrived with our entrees, “auctioned” the plates, then stared at me as if to get me to move my appetizer plate out of the way. When I didn’t, she set both entree plates on the table. When the busser came to collect the appetizer plates, I asked for new silverware; he looked like he had never heard that before. Later, he picked up our finished entree plates while I was still chewing! My water glass sat empty for about 10 minutes before it was refilled. For Dear Jane’s prices, I would expect better. Even the valet was expensive, at $15+ tip.

We had Mother's Day brunch here. The atmosphere was fantastic with beautiful views of the marina. The food was good, but not great. The service was adequate, but certainly nothing special. The waiter had my wife go to the bar to get her last mimosa, since we had already closed out, even though we spent over $500 there. We were very disappointed that we were not able to add one person to our party of 7 when we called two days prior. We were told they were at capacity. We then showed up to not only find enough room at our large round table for an additional guest, but several tables for a party of 10 that were not used until we were leaving. Also, the restaurant was only at half capacity until we left around 1pm. We would have happily put one more chair in to accommodate our guest. Overall I could see coming here for a few drinks, but that's about it.

SIGH. I had High hopes for this restaurant. I Googled Michelin star rated restaurants near me and this restaurant popped up. Immediately upon arrival, I could see myself coming back to have tea or a drink because the ambience was amazing. I thought what would this restaurant look like during the daytime because it was gorgeous at night. It was my birthday, and I told the hostess that. They did nothing for my birthday. OK, fine… We ordered the smoked fish dip. It was pretty good. I found the consistency to be kind of runny. Then I ordered the Branzino and while the presentation was good, it lacked the buttery taste that I know Branzino can have. The flavor and the seasonings were just not up to par for $66. We also ordered the lemon potatoes. They were extremely underwhelming. Nothing lemoney about them. My friend ordered the lobster pasta. The presentation was terrible. Two lobster claws just plopped down on top of the pasta. Very little flavor. He didn’t like it so he sent it back and ordered the halibut. Again, the presentation looked amazing. One bite into it, I could see on his face that it wasn’t any better. So I tasted it. It tasted like it wasn’t cooked with any love. It was a dry hard brick of what tasted like previously frozen fish. Even though I haven’t been in 25 years, I feel like red lobster would have been better for a fraction of the price. If I was the owner of this restaurant, I would reevaluate my head chef immediately. It’s time to redo the menu because this restaurant is not operating at its fullest potential!!

The setting and fish were excellent. Unfortunately, there was an issue with a veggie side dish. Our server/the kitchen missed the point I shared that I have celiac disease (CD). First the dish was undercooked and impossible to cut with a knife and fork. The server offered to refire it. The second time the dish came with bread crumbs, had to send it back. This oversight could have totally derailed our vacation. She took the dish off the check and apologized. If you have CD, please be vigilant.

I want to give this place a full 5 stars because the neighborhood needs better restaurants, but I have to say the food was underwhelming. Good seafood should make you exclaim at it’s freshness, and good cocktails should give you a buzz without spiking your blood sugar. The seabass was a little dry, the vongole were drowning in brine and the baked mussels were incomplete. The bread was also dense in the worst of ways. It tasted like food that hadn’t been practiced enough.

Finally got to experience Dear Jane’s after years of walking past. My review is very mixed. The Good: the location is amazing. Nestled on the marina feet away from docked boats at the marina. The interior decor is impeccable! Great artwork on the walls. Color coordinated with such attention detail that is probably in the top 5% of all restaurants in LA. The patio is also tastefully done with heat lamps if the temperature isn’t warm enough. A+ Came for Happy Hour The Bad: The food. I was surprised just how mediocre to bad the items we got were. The calamari was shockingly awful. Our order came out cold and over cooked - almost as if it was the last remaining in a basket. Some of the calamari was missing the actual calamari - it was over fried breading that I guess had detached from the actual protein. Also got a basic green salad that tasted as if though salt was added. Fresh greens but never had a salty salad before. Next we got the Happy hour shrimp cocktail - 😂 two shrimp. $13.00. These weren’t small shrimp but weren’t large either. They were butterflied to look bigger but very average. It was ok - the cocktail sauce had quite a bit of horseradish and again it was ok. Next we got the shrimp scampi and it was again just ok. Very mid. Nothing really stood out. Very small portion and between two people we just ate half. Wasn’t terrible but not good either. And lastly the sirloin. Was surprised it wasn’t a lot better considering Jane’s is affiliated with Dear John’s - a steak house. Ordered medium rare came out closer to medium well. Overall: glad we came on happy hour to try out some items instead of the full dinner orders which are not cheap. Great date spot but the food will leave you desiring so much more. We actually left and went to a nearby waterfront restaurant and practically ordered the exact same things for a fraction of the price and much larger and tastier portions. Really wanted to like this place especially considering we spent $100 for happy hour. I’d go back and take advantage of the cocktails or half of bottle of wine days.

We dined here tonight and left feeling disappointed. I just don’t think the food warrants the high price tag. We had to send the calamari appetizer back as it was mostly just fried crumbs and no squid. Everything is a la carte so you end up paying a ton just to get a side with your dish. I had the scampi and my shrimp had no flavor. Spent almost $400 for 4 people and it just wasn’t worth it. Not impressed, sadly. For that price tag it better be fantastic IMO.

(10/22 visit) Dear Jane- What it is: A beautiful restaurant with great views, friendly service, and a fun, retro menu. What it is not: A foodie restaurant. All of the fish is frozen and farm-raised, mostly shipped in from other continents . The only local fresh item on the menu was the Ling cod, but unfortunately the only available preparation was in the form of fish and chips (which were tasty and paired well w the Dauvissat Chablis btw.) For the most part, everything we ordered was either a wee bit under- or over-cooked. That said, I am hopeful they will work out the kinks. This place has the potential to be a decent replacement for Café del Rey - one of the best local options for business lunches/dinners. They even have a Cougar bar behind a curtain to replace the one at Cafe del Rey lol.

Our family of 10 people went to the Mother’s Day Brunch. This included two grandmothers, one grandfather, one mother and one father, plus five young folk. The youngest diner was 16 and the oldest diner was 88. I am one of the grandmothers and it was my fourth time to dine at Dear Jane’s. The starters were lovely, especially the avocado toast and the shrimp cocktail. The serving size was just right, a taste of everything leaving you wishing for more but recognizing that it was just the beginning. I ordered the Crab Cakes Benedict which came with two crab cakes topped by two poached eggs. The crab cakes were generously sized so I could attempt to eat only one. I say attempt because the crab had been over cooked until it became as tough as shoe leather. I couldn’t tell if it had been baked or deep fat fried but my knife was greatly challenged in an attempt to break through the exterior wall of crab meat. It felt as if I were trying to cut into a brick. I would have been better off with poached eggs on toast. In retrospect I should have sent it back but I have never sent anything back before so it didn’t occur to me. My other three times having dinner at Dear Jane’s have been very enjoyable and worthy of five stars so this was a disappointment. I love the Sand Dabs and will go again for dinner. Most of the family were happy with their choices (no one else had ordered crab cakes) so I would just warn people at the upcoming Father’s Day brunch to be wary of the crab cakes.

I have been to Dear John’s and had a great steak dinner in a dark and funky environment, so I was really looking forward to Dear Jane’s, their sibling restaurant in Marina del Rey, specializing in seafood. Unfortunately, it was pretty meh. Valet parking is $12, which isn’t bad, but weird when they have a giant lot right at the front door. The atmosphere is nice, facing the boats on the marina, and the sourdough and butter were a great start. In fairness, we also enjoyed the shrimp cocktail and wedge salad. But the killer moment was, because I could see the kitchen, I saw our entrees sitting on the pickup counter for a looong time. And then, when the staff picked it up, they held each plate directly under the heat lamps to rewarm the food. Blah! Our entrees were lukewarm and uninspired. Then our waitress completely forgot about us and it took forever to get the check. Finally, I really hated the “yacht rock” music they played, although it fits with being in a marina. The vibe overall is an elegant restaurant with good, standard seafood for older people who like yachts.

Atmosphere and wait staff were the best aspects to dining at dear janes. Beautiful view of the marina, spacious seating, and very friendly/punctual service. Although i did enjoy my drink (the Smokey Jane) and the bread, the entrees were disappointing. The sea bass was over cooked and bleak. The tuna was also over cooked. The sides were sub par. Overall, everything was ‘fine’ but not good enough to ever want to come back. I prefer the environment here over dear John’s, but this place needs to work on the menu a while longer and I’m sure they could reach the potential they are aiming for.

Nice atmosphere but can’t cover up the poor food quality. Got the pre fixed menu for LA food week. Crab cake: bland, tough, boring Filet Mignon: tough, flavorless, cheap cut of meat Dessert: literally a Costco brownie with cheap ice cream Expensive, not worth it. Come on! Maybe for a martini at the bar and a date, but nothing more. And $12 for valet, bruh

N

Worth the skip. Olive Garden pretending to be a high-end seafood restaurant. $11 for bread? Please, Rockenwagner doesn’t have that kind of cachet as a bakery.

M

I’m giving this two stars instead of one because I love Josiah and am a huge fan of Dear John’s, but this restaurant is definitely a miss. The bar area is cute and I enjoyed my glass of Bordeaux, but it’s mediocre food at a high price tag. And, for the price, it’s not a “dining experience.” It’s an in and out. Also, valet was $17 in Marina Del Ray. Eye roll.

J
Jet Lee

To be frank I don’t believe this place is Michelin Star quality. The service we received was not as accommodating as you’d expect, and the food quality is especially low. Our mains that we had were very bland, and nothing unique or outstanding. However, the manager was nice enough to refund the dishes that we were not happy with. I’d hope that they improve the quality of their food to meet the expectations that people come in to the restaurant with, as currently it’s simply just disappointing.

K
K Shultz

We started out partaking in their happy hour offerings - nothing fabulous here, but the calamari was good, the Oysters Rockefeller were tiny and inadequately prepared (lacking the touch of fennel that makes it just right). Service was hectic, even though the bar wasn’t crowded. It was ok. Then we went to the dining room for dinner. It’s a pricey menu so you expect something a bit special. The salmon was …well, BAD. Small cut, very much overcooked to the point of dry and stiffly chewy. And the presentation was just so unappealing: this small overdone piece of salmon floating in the middle of a blue-green sauce. That’s it. We asked what was this sauce and got a garbled answer as our waiter raced off. It didn’t taste like much of anything and it didn’t help hide the dryness of the fish. The wedge salad was cut into small bits and was very watery - as in soaking wet with water which of course made the already very thin dressing taste even thinner and more tasteless. A hostess came by and asked how much did we love our dinners? We reported the dryness of the salmon, to which we were treated to a brief lecture of the loftiness and grandeur of the chef and that chef’s Michelin Star wins. Not exactly a great ending to a dismal experience.

J
Jonah Hall

Nice space but the food is really disappointing. Went there with friends last night. My wife got the fish fillet and it felt like it was cooked in the microwave. The calamari was soggy and boring. I paid $45 for some black ink crab pasta and it was just flavorless. We got the mushroom appetizer and we could swear they were canned. My wife got a tequila cocktail called a Fonda that she left half empty because it was unpleasant. Decor is nice and the staff is nice. The wall of buoys is a cool feature. One issue was that the bussers kept trying to clear our plates before we were done, so we kept having to fight to finish apps and drinks. The bill was $500 for six people, before tip. If the place is great that's fine but this was not a menu that can command prices like that. Hopefully they can right the ship. It's only been a couple of months.

K
Kyle Anderson

Very friendly staff and the look and feel of the dinning was great. Right on the water and decorations were right on key. Food was very low par and small portions. Very expensive. 9.00 for bread and butter which wasn't impressive. 18.00 for a cup of claim chowder. Soup was very watery and not much taste. Large clams though. 25.00 for an appetizer of crab cakes. Which was only one cake. And was ok but have had better for less. If we go back it would be for drinks and the dining room

G
Gareth Morris

Took my parents here for dinner last night. Service unfortunately really lets this place down. I asked a few questions about the ingredients in the drinks and how they're served -- the waiter seemed disinterested and dismissive, along the lines of "yeah probably that drink is the one you want". Ended up ordering a drink I expected to be served neat, that arrived on ice. Shouldn't be a big deal to clear up right? Well, waiters aren't allowed to rectify things here, the manager has to come over, and their approach was "you ordered this, if you don't want it I'll take it back but you're still paying". I had to flat out argue for several minutes before they swapped the drink. At one point the manager said something like "imagine if we just swapped everyone's drinks without question" -- that was astounding to hear, as if we were there just to try and scam them. This was one cocktail on a $350 dinner check! It's the kind of contempt for customers that can only come from a toxic business and work environment. It's a shame as the ambiance in the restaurant and bar is very nice -- the drinks were actually great, and the food was good. It would be a solid four star if not for the service. Definitely won't be back based on this experience.

Came here with my coworkers and the service was awful. Dylan came to save the day when he shouldn’t have - I’m positive he was the floor manager but unfortunately I had to flag him down because our assigned server (who I couldn’t even remember his name) never came to check on us and Dylan saved the day. Why assign a person who was tending to a holiday party , to a table who he clearly didn’t want to serve? He only came to try and make up for it by the time we were ordering dessert (which we didn’t). The calamari was extremely salty and the main dishes were nothing to rave about. Probably only worth it when it’s sunset. Do not spend your money here, LOTS of better places in the area. Thanks to Dylan for trying to save our dinner.

Overprice, poor menu with small choices, y ordered a fish and a side for $60, butter sauce all over that y cannot taste the fish. I can buy a Fresh fish and put on grill myself with tons of butter, I expected much more for dishes diversity. Service was good. Overall, we need more places in the marina but not this type of restaurants, bring no values to our neighborhood and it is totally overprice for what you get

We dined in the bar which was tastefully decorated. My both ordered oysters Rockefeller which had extremely small oysters and they were $24 for four. I ordered the clam chowder and my partner ordered the shrimp scampi, which was a very small dish for $38. My chowder wasn’t chowder is was basically seasoned water. I couldn’t find any clams either. The waiter was good enough to remove it from the check. Oh, not to forget the $9 for bread and butter. I consider myself a fairly refined diner and I couldn’t give this meal more than one star. Service was also spotty primarily because the owner was having dinner with friends next to us. I strongly suggest thinking twice before dining here. $130 for bread, two orders of Rockefeller and shrimp scampi is pushing it even for LA.

Sad to say, I was extremely disappointed with my Christmas Eve pre-fix menu dinner experience. I would suggest avoiding busy set menu nights like this 😕 Reservation was at 7:45pm and didn't leave until 10pm and would have been longer if we didn't take dessert to go. Delayed seating, ridiculous wait between courses (like 45 mins for some), lack of attention (like took 30 mins to get sparkling water we ordered as we were sat), waiter was not friendly, kitchen was out of food (didn't tell us until we asked where the veggie was), table next to us was sat 30 mins after but were a course ahead. And they sent me home with someone else's left overs 😳😳😳😳 Paid way too much for such a poor experience. We frequent Dear Johns but thought we'd switch it up. Both locations have lost my business now.

Made an anniversary reservation for 7pm but was seated furthest from the kitchen. First course took 40 minutes to materialize and second, including one fixed price (standard course) meal, a further 30 minutes. Food was retro and OK. But service was terrible. Too few cooks and wait staff for so many covers?

S

DISAPPOINTING on so many levels Let's start with the FOOD since that's ultimately most important: Multiple dishes felt like it was frozen food that was rush to be thawed and microwave heated. We were joking that they seemed to be taking the retro vibe too far by serving us Sizzler or Long John Silvers quality food.  The bread start was blah as well…cold unappetizing bread and ice cold mediocre butter. The VIBE is fun, but it is also WAY too dark in the restaurant. It's like they lit the entire place at bar lighting levels. DRINKS: This was a hot mess! One us got a whiskey sour that was all sour and no whiskey. And another person in our party ordered a whiskey drink and the server asked him what whiskey he wanted in it. The server showed him a list with no prices and he picked Whistle Pig. When the bill came we were shocked to see that drink cost $38! Tried to argue with the server and manager and they just didn't care. PARKING: $15 valet! There is no self parking within half a mile, so you're forced to pay that fee. Ugh. AVOID!

Dear Jane....the ambiancé was pleasant and the staff overall were very nice but to say this was a disappointing experience in an understatement. As a huge fan of Dear John's I was so excited to visit Dear Jane's but this restaurant has a long way to go to share the same credentials. As we were eating our appetizers, we were asked if we were ready for the main course. Obviously we were not....fork still in hand! Not surprisingly, when the main courses did arrive they had been sitting under heat lamps for at least 8 minutes. Sanddabs drenched in sauce that is now congealed tasted as you might imagine. When again the staff tried to rush us to dessert, I had had enough and ordered oysters and champagne for our first dessert. This meal was intended as a thank you dinner for a good friend and we were spending accordingly. I was embarrassed that I had chosen somewhere, that despite impressions and cost, does not live up to expectations. Even if they got the food right - there would have been little time to enjoy it.

To start the music was extremely loud. The $68 1 lb Lobster that was presented in a lovely way but was 1/2 raw and not edible. They took it back and said that they cooked it and they really didn’t. These chefs need to go back to class to learn how to cook! This was a totally disappointing culinary experience!! 👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻

If it came down to the atmosphere and the actual restaurant itself by appearance, it’s five stars cause the look of the restaurant is great. But sadly, the food and the service don’t come close to the atmosphere and look of the restaurant. I paid $19 for a “bowl” clam chowder, which was laughable only because it was served in a cup and the chowder itself was more like soup - there was nothing creamy about it. The chopped salad looked and tasted like it was from a low end diner and considering it was a $20 salad you’d think it would have had a little better presentation at least. The others in my group had similar complaints about their food. The lobster pasta was a kid sized portion and not very good, the chicken parmesan was literally a chicken breast on a plate, no sides or even garnish, and it wasn’t tenderized - it still had a bone in it. The shrimp cocktail was four shrimp and some cucumbers I think but barely any cocktail sauce and a poor presentation. The only redeeming item we had was the sourdough bread and butter. That was great. Service was extremely slow. We were given a time window for our table to accommodate the incoming reservation and were totally fine with that except the extremely slow service took up all of the time we had so we didn’t have the option to even consider dessert, but to be honest after the seriously lacking dinner we probably were better off not overpaying for more mediocre food. Needless to say none of us will be going back. We miss the Chart House, at least their food was worth the price. 🫤

Was so excited to try Dear Jane’s. I was never so disappointed in both the food and service. The shrimp scampi was bland and flavorless…absolutely tasteless and the shrimp tasted like rubber. When stating my concern, the manager was extremely rude! I will NEVER patronize this establishment again.

Place has no idea how to handle a patron with no reservation...sat us down and it took over 30 minutes to get an entree that was over salted...this was 1 of 3 visits this past year, the latest debacle of dining out was tonight. Order for a burger medium and scampi was never put in...server ask if we want dessert before we had our entree...30 minutes later get a rare burger with a cold bun (see pictures attached)...avoid this place, so not worth the $50 to $100 a head you are being charged.
