I've been living in this town for so long and have passed by this place a million times. Omg do not miss out on this hidden in plain sight gem!!! Absolutely feels like an old school diner. The food is delicious and I mean it is delicious so good I had to say it twice. If you like BBQ this is the place to go. They do bacon right and you will leave this place stuffed.

Fantastic senior menu! Great menu all around. Great food, great ribs, and great place!

Had the small order of ribs on the back page of menu. My one friend had BLT which she enjoyed. Cannot remember exactly what our third friend had but we all thoroughly liked our meals.

Awesome old school baby back ribs, pink like they should be. Sauce is perfectly tangy & sweet, without being too sweet. We *always* stop here whenever we're in the area. On my latest visit they were a bit less tender, hopefully just an anomaly. Oh, and the beans are kinda bland, get corn instead.

The food and service here are fantastic 😉👍 Update*** So the food and service is still fantastic. But now they are under new ownership. So there have been some changes such as the prices of the meals has increased, and in my opinion, the portion size of the meal has gotten considerably smaller. I still recommend it for good food and great service. But know that here in Merced there are a few other eating establishments that offer similar meals, for the same price, but have larger portion sizes.

I walked in and was treated like an absolute queen from the moment I walked in until the moment I left! Kimberly was who took our order and chatted with us for a few moments while simultaneously bagging and assembling orders. I told her a bit about us and how we came from Tennessee and that we so badly miss bar b que. She took her time explaining the menu to us, and gave us plenty of time to make a decision. This reminds me of the southern hospitality and charm that is often missing out here in California. Even if the food tasted like a shoe (it was wonderful) I’d still come back just bc of the service alone! Now for the food. We ordered 4 meals. A blt, a famous French burger, a taster sampler and a rib dinner. Everything was delicious. We were missing a single ear of corn in one of the bar b Que dinners but we didn’t notice until we got home. No big deal.

First time here. Got sampler appetizer plate is very impressed at the corner too of the onion rings and sweet potato fries. Got the taster platter. Brisket and ham were cooked. Absolutely perfect. Spare rib was good. Only weakness is the sauce. It seems to be really watered down but to be honest it's a double edged sword and it really allows the cooking of the meat to shine so I'm not really sure how to feel about that will definitely repeat

The food was great , definitely fresh and home cook feeling! The cinnamon rolls are a definitely must buy! Our waitress was kind and attentive! We visited 2/5/25 at 1045 am we are definitely coming back ! 5 stars all around ✨️ thankyou bbq pit ! I got the pulled pork sandwhich with onion rings and a side of potato salad ( house made! ) also grabbed mac and cheese for the baby, she absolutely loves it ! It was creamy and subtle not too overwhelming , my husband got the bbq burger and fries which was the star! It was double delicious ! I hope more people visit soon

I decided to order family packs for My employee holiday party Out of town. We had tri tip beans potato salad mashed potatoes and veggies. The service was excellent, They knew I was driving Out of town and had it ready for me first thing in the morning. Jesus and the rest of the staff were Amazing! They had it already for me packed up ready to go. Food was excellent. Everyone enjoyed it. I had 40 people and 6 family packs Was perfect. Some even went back for a second serving. Thank you to the staff They were wonderful.. food was excellent.. we definitely will be ordering for future parties.

They were so sweet. I went to get something to go and I had my dog with me. (Windows were down and the back window was open so he was actually sticking halfway out of the cab) I ran inside and grabbed a menu and went back out to my truck. I went back in to order and they took care of me quickly so I could get back out to my dog. She even gave me a large cup of ice water for him while we waited. I got the French dip and it was so tender. Absolutely loved the whole experience.

Coffee shop-esque so no need to dress up which is great because this delicious BBQ could end up inadvertently on a piece of clothing with the way you will be devouring it all!

Oh man this place has one of the most tastiest bbq hamburgers I added all-up-enyas and dang 🤤sent me to my quiet place for the rest of my day. If you eat here plan not to work afterwards its that good. Service as well the employees/waiter/waitress were very welcoming thank you bbq pit for your kindness and great service. This place has been around since I was little. The food never changes, always delicious. My favorite is the Country Breakfast. Their biscuits and gravy are to Die for. If I could give this place six stars I would!! The food here is amazing! I’ve heard about this place for many years and just never tried it. I had the ham and cheese omelette and home fries. It came with 2 pancakes. I ordered a half order of biscuits and gravy, and my taste buds did the happy dance. The biscuits and gravy are homemade!! You don’t find often when the biscuits and gravy didn’t come out of a package. I highly recommend coming here. I will definitely be back, this is by far the best breakfast place in Merced. The service here is really good. For my beverage, I ordered a large apple juice and black coffee.

Came here with my whole family and it's great! The food is delicious and the service is fantastic, I highly suggest the steak and eggs. I would've taken a picture before I ate it but I was hungry and it looked good. The waitress was friendly and checked in on us often, felt very welcoming.

I phoned in for take out. It was ready when got there in 10 minutes. The tri tip was tender and juicy, the barbecue beans were yummy and the coleslaw was very good. Every dish was well seasoned. Nice

I order from here for our office meetings. The family packs (take out only) are such a good deal. The food is definitely a staff favorite! Chicken is sometimes dry but the tri-tip and ribs are great. We will continue to give them our business.

Comfortable, "at home" feeling as soon as you walk in. We were seated promptly by a friendly waitress, who was good at checking on us & keeping our drinks full. The food was very good. My open faced beef sandwich with mashed taters reminded me of my childhood. Plenty of food.

Typical diner type of cuisine. I have been here a couple of times and the food was good. Since I love family owned restaurants, I would give the food 4. Service was outstanding. Coffee cup never emptied and food came out hot. The interior is a bit rough but what do you expect from a bbq joint?

Been going there for ,20 years. Good eats but some cooks fix items differently. When Roy is there all is good and standardized. Waitress said new cooks, and never replaced what we could not eat. I have not give up be back soon from Mariposa.

This was my first time and I would probably give it 5 stars if it wasn't for that. My daughter found a spinach omlet for me (she knows that is what I like). It was a little different, but it was very good. She says they have biscuits and gravy to die for. I know others who agree. I completely forgot to take a picture of my plate (duh moment). I am looking forward to going back and hopefully I can get the pics and adjust the stars accordingly.

Came in for breakfast today for the first time in years. They were out of the breakfast item I ordered but had plenty to substitute my choice. The staff was very welcoming and we never needed to ask for a refill on coffee as they checked on us several times. I'll be sure to come back and try lunch

$15.99.....🤔. Ribs taste good. But doesn't have that much meat. I expect it more ribs I guess too....I liked them with more bbq sauces. If I knew that the add so little i will ask them for more.... cones with beans that I didn't like it. Comes with bread I ask garlic bread it is greasy but taste pretty good. Bake Potato it's ok. Its wort to try.

The chicken was a little dry but I don't like chicken anyway. Overall great little spot! Definitely left full and satisfied! Would 100% go back.

I always have a good experience here, the food is good lately there's been a few snafews... Like wrong order or spilled bbq sauce, not coming to fill up drinks, just clumsiness and forgetfulness but nothing to not come here again the food is very good! I have done walking orders to take with me and a blonde lady is always short with me and a bit rude that's why I'm not giving it that extra star. I just smile and ignore her but it's starting to get irritating and I come here quite often with my friends. The place is very clean and I love the food there's plenty of seating it's not always packed but sometimes it is on the weekends. They have two restrooms there that are amazing because they're painted wall to wall so cool to look at! And don't forget the pies they are really good I truly recommend them ❤️ overall great job barbecue pit! Maybe just brush up on some customer service friendliness even when you're busy and in a rush you should always calm down and give people your best side! Especially if they come here quite often 😊

Cute place easy to access. Staff was nice they started cleaning and shutting the blinds when we got there. You could tell they wanted to go home. It was about 730pm. The food was basic. Big portions.. Chicken was cold when we got it. Bbq sauce was canned as well as the BBQ beans and nasty faked mashed potatoes and garlic bread was obviously frozen . You are better off saving your $$ and going somewhere else.

Last 2 times I have been there i have not been pleased.if your going to garnish a plate with lettuce make sure it's not wilted.then again recently ordered a French dip sandwich and the meat was cold and adjusted was so salty I couldn't eat it.

I'm only going to comment about what I ordered which was the family dinner combo. The tri-tip was a little dry for my liking, I'm not a fan of mac and cheese but my kids loved it. Didn't like the fact that it seemed drenched in Velveeta cheese. The colslaw was really good, better then most places I've tried. The beans were good and fresh. The dinner rolls were perfect nice and fresh. The customer service was great, they were really friendly and helpful and had an upbeat attitude. I am going to try this place again because their breakfast menu looks really good.

Our server was very nice, we got a tri-tip sandwich, which it was dry and had no flavor and the dip It's like salty water at best.the potato salad, it was good. The French fries were good. The baked beans we're okay, Don't get me started on the barbecue ribs. All I can say is wow, and not in a good way.

Seems more like a senior-oriented diner that happens to have some BBQ than a dedicated BBQ joint. Went on a Sunday afternoon with my family, was empty. Waiter was nice, but getting food and drinks took a very long time. Ribs were reasonably tender and well smoked. Sauce was decent, I prefer bolder flavor but it wasn't bad. The rest of the food we had was kind of mediocre diner fare.

Not impressed with the fajitas dish. And the fact that there was a giant bug in the back really ruined the entire experience. This place needs a major makeover. Wait staff was the only reason I even gave it two stars - Cashier was very friendly. Crossing my fingers it gets better. I hadn't had a meal there in three years, now I remembered why!

The meat for the French dip was extremely dry. The Spare Ribs were done way too much. The people are very nice. I made the phone order to pick up and everything was correct and done well.

Sad because this may be the worst BBQ I have ever eaten and we had hoped for something we could return to. The sauce tasted like marinara mixed with ketchup. Beans were not cooked till soft and tasteless, as if cooked in water, salt (not enough) and pepper. French fries looked like they had been fried 3x ! We tried everything on the BBQ menu as far as meats. They were dried up or chewy. No bueno! We would be simply shocked if this place has any people come more than once. So disappointing.

Went because I was craving barbeque and the high rating. Maybe their other selections are good, but the barbeque ribs were dry and tough. I would also encourage the owners to put just a little effort into cleaning up the place. The walls of the booths looked like they haven't been wiped down in a very long time.

Food was not good at all. My boyfriend only like the pulled pork we didn't eat the rest of our food. I paid for it and the waitress told us she can't take anything off the ticket because owner said. I told her I don't care I will pay because I ordered it, but I did tell her the food was not good. And the table was dirty stuck arm in something gross on the table. Overall it was very disgusting. The only reason for the 2 stars is because the waitress was somewhat nice.

The food was nothing special. It was ok, but I would compare it to airplane food at best. The restaurant itself is just very dirty and dusty. I won't be back unless they do some serious work on the quality of the food and the environment.

I was in town on business and was hoping to find a local favorite, this was not it. Slow service on a slow evening. The BBQ sauce was pretty close to the worst I've ever tasted. The atmosphere was okay. the server was okay, the meat was okay, but the BBQ tasted like I remember from my childhood school hot lunches and it was on everything thick.

Ordered the Bbq Chicken and Rib combo with vegetables and mashed potatoes. Food was cold and smothered in cold ketchup sauce. I cant comment on the meats flavor as all I could taste was the cold sauce. Very disappointed.

To be honest I'm not sure how this place stays open. We are from out of town & couldn't find anywhere near the immediate area that wasn't fast food so we gave it a try. Our waitress was so sweet & attentive I wish I could leave a better review! But to be honest, the food was not good. The burgers were premade patties and the poppers came still frozen in the middle. The restrooms smelled of bad plumbing. There were a few "regulars" /older gentlemen, that I'm sure were there only for the friendly waitresses.

I made the mistake of reading the review rating instead of the individual reviews. After my meal I look through the reviews and found that others had the same exact experience as me. Number one I've got two words false advertising. If you stay on your menu that the ribs are fall off the bone quality I'm going to expect that. Although the flavor was decent the ribs were tough and far from fall off the bone. The mashed potatoes were not real which was very surprising considering that they serve ribs. I did not find one thing there that I enjoyed. If you are not a picky eater and you don't seem to care if you're getting lower high quality food or just don't know better do too your age or just your taste then by all means go here. I was extremely disappointed with this restaurant and will not be back.

The customer service today was awful. The waitress was so rude and neglectful. Even my grandson commented on how angry and depressed she seemed right as we arrived. She was argumentative and defensive when I asked for some salad dressing. I couldn't believe it. She said it was already put on the salad, but when I said it was dry, she literally put her finger very close to the lettuce and argued that she could see dressing. I eat out a lot and have ALWAYS left a tip. Even when service isn't the best, I've always tried to keep in mind how difficult the job is. Today for the first time in 55 years, I stiffed the waitress. She was horrible and deserves to be fired. I like the food at this place but they should really make sure staff is more customer service oriented.

I always used to drive by this place when my wife and I decided to give them a try. We stepped out of the car and never smelled any smoke or BBQing going on but figured maybe they do it off site and bring it in. No biggie, I tried the BBQ beef, ham, and rib. It was just sliced sandwich meat ham in BBQ sauce.The rib was okay, the beef was ehh....Honestly I was a bit let down because for all the decent reviews I expected real authentic BBQ. In fairness I'm from Sonora and we actually BBQ and smoke meats so I just hoped and figured you valley people knew how to. I wanted to like them but we wouldn't go back.

I can remember being a toddler driving all the way from mariposa to eat here because it was so good and family friendly but what I was served if thats what you call it was absolutely a shame. To start the servers hate their life as they mope around not asking once if I needed anything but then again how could they the whole meal was less food then I feed a four year old! It looked like a kids omelet the hashbrowns were practically frozen on the inside of a burnt shell. I left feeling like I ate nothing! I was starving even after the meal. As far as the taste...I would rather pick up cow poop for 9 hours then eat there again. Cost me 50 dollars and I only finished it because I didn't want.to be rude to my husband who paid for it but let me tell you the last bite almost cane back up. The cook needs retraining!! Steak was ordered Med. Rare came out Med. Well. Baked potato was so cold the butter wouldn't melt. BLT had 3 small pieces of bacon on the whole sandwich with only a dab (smaller then a dime) of mayo on half of the sandwich and a thin half slice of tomato. Fries were undercooked. 25 minutes after I ordered, the cook decides to tell the waitress that they have no biscuits and gravy (I ordered my meal specifically for that). Would have been nice to know that sooner, not a couple of minutes before my food came out!! Really bad experience!!

I got the merchant. With ribs. An side of mac an cheese. 1st mac was cold to warm an tasted more like water. Ribs microwaved I think a hard to chew Literally took 1 bite. BBQ beans were good but seemed more like a peppery bean soup.the frues were still raw too My "garlic bread" came late to my table an had been microwave also. I drove from fresno to try them otw home. Terrible experience to say the least an the waitress say my unearned plate an wife half ish eatn French dip an let me pay 47$ crazy good service lol

I hate to leave a 1 star review for the smoked slab of pork ribs I ordered. I paid 55 of BBQ smoked spare ribs……… and I get ribs that taste and look like they are cooked in an oven….. it is really disappointing. BBQ sauce is home made and just lacks in color and taste. There is a polite , pretty girl that takes your order. My problem is not the service, it’s the food I was served. I drove 3 hours to get home, and the mash potatoes and Mack n cheese was already spoiled. When you get your food…….it is a total let down. This is not a BBQ PLACE !!!! It’s a home style dinner . Maybe the locals like this food, but a person that knows BBQ will be really mad when they get their “pork ribs”. Please don’t say ribs are cooked in your smoke pit…….. they are over cooked and not cooked properly.…… this is false advertising. It was a bad meal, I am sorry.
