My wife and I stopped in on our way through Old Forge. We both ordered the 2 eggs and 2 pancake breakfast. We thought it was going to a nice little light meal. We were very wrong. We got a huge amount of food. My two scrambled eggs covered the whole plate. The pancakes were massive. Everything was delicious. On top of the great food, the staff was wonderful.
First time trying Keyes and it won't be the last. Homefries are the best compared to others in town. (Flavorful and actually cooked) I'm not big on raw cold potatoes. Omelette was tasty and my wife was pleased with her meal too. Wait staff is pleasant!
We stopped in here on a whim & absolutely loved it. Service was wonderful. The food was delicious, was served fairly quick, and was very affordable. Highly recommend!
The food was great and amazing portion! Stayed on top of refilling my coffee. Atmosphere adorable. Wasn’t a long wait. Waitress was very sweet. Would come here over and over! Good job!
If you’re looking for 6 eggs at grocery store prices, just make it yourself. But it’s always nice to sit down at a breakfast joint, be served a hot meal, and enjoy good coffee. Keys Pancake House was popping, and it’s not hard to see why — the food is consistent, the service is great, and the atmosphere is lively. It’s a greasy spoon at its finest. I’ll definitely be back next time I’m in Old Forge!
This place is just is how I remembered it as a kid! I felt like I stepped back in time. It was so great to be back! Awesome food! You can’t come here and not get the pancakes! Service was wonderful! Food was delicious! Can’t wait to make it back up here again!!
A recent visit to this charming pancake restaurant nestled in the heart of Old Forge, and it was an absolute delight! From the moment we walked in, we were greeted by Kathy at 72 who smiled the whole time and you could tell she still loves her job. The food was fantastic—perfectly fluffy pancakes with just the right amount of sweetness and a variety of delicious toppings to choose from. The restaurant has a cozy, nostalgic vibe that really added to the experience. It felt like stepping back in time to a simpler era, where good food and friendly faces are all you need to start the day. I highly recommend stopping by if you're ever in town—it's a true gem!
6/22/2024 stopped here for breakfast! The service was wonderful and the food was hot and delicious!!! Our food came out quick and the waitress was so nice, she even laughed when I asked for grits!! I ordered two scrambled eggs, corn beef hash, and a pancake! I highly recommend stopping here for breakfast!!
Great place in Old Forge. Stopped for breakfast on our way home from our snowmobile trip. All are welcome, as noted on the board. As a note, there are no split checks. This place has that local diner feel, which I always like. Service was great as soon as we walked in. They have specials. I opted to the heart attack bowl (breakfast style garbage plate if you know anything about that). Very good. Had the bloody mary to go with it. My friends all tried the different number specials. They enjoyed it as well. Reasonable prices. Parking was good. We had two trailers and there was enough room in the area for them. Stop in and enjoy!
My family has been going to Old Forge for 40 years. I do not miss at a chance for at least one breakfast at this excellent diner when we are in town. I have NEVER been disappointed with food or service even when its busy. Everything I have eaten has been excellent. A most stop in Old Forge.
This was our first time. It took a bit for the server to greet us, but we were seated fast. The food was what you would expect at a breakfast place. Nothing crazy good but all good none the less. Pricing was so high for juice, but everything else was priced reasonable. Will go back to try more of the menu.
Cute country diner - came here with a group of 5 around 9:00am. We got seated immediately, and were served by Julia. She was attentive and made sure we were always topped off on coffee. A mix of pancakes, French toast, omelette, and sides were ordered and none of the party had anything negative to say. Would highly recommend if you’re in the area!
This place is a great stop for reasonably priced breakfast food. The service was just ok, nothing spectacular. I did find a piece of sausage in my home fries which, as a vegetarian, wasn’t a fun experience. All the rest of the food was really good though! There are also crayons and paper for kids (or adults who still act like kids) to color with which is always nice.
I was camping at a nearby resort and came here for brunch. Instead ended up ordering a cheeseburger and fries which was okay but nothing spectacular. My 7 year old nephew had a cheeseburger meal from the kids menu and it costs the same as an adult size meal, so I didn't get that concept. It was nice in here and clean. I would come again to try something else. It wasn't a bad experience just not what I expected. In response to the restaurant $0.50 means nothing to me. Everything else on the kids menu is between $5-6. The burgers aren't that great to jack up the price on the kids menu. The meat was real unlike a lot of restaurants but it was bland. Everyone has their own opinions and mine is that maybe the breakfast would be better, since this is a pancake house.
The atmosphere and service are great but the food was lacking in flavor and the pancakes were gritty. Maybe that's the way the food has always been maybe that's why it's so popular but it didn't work for me. We had the pancakes loaded home fries eggs Benny and apple stuffed French toast. If you go, I hope you have better tasting good.
Ah, Keys. Many people love this place, and that collective love draws me here every couple of years. Unfortunately, I have never been impressed. After today, it's time for my review. Due to some temporary insanity, today I ordered the steak fajita omelette (violating my rule to keep it simple in a place I'm not 100% on). To replicate the steak in this omelette, you would need to take an unmarinated sirloin, cook it WELL done, and then toss it straight in the fridge. In 2 days, take the steak out and chop it up (you'll need something REALLY sharp) and throw it on the griddle with enough vegetable oil to make it swim (this does nothing for the texture it's just...how they made it for whatever reason). Now throw the chunks in an omelette with as much of the grease and oil as you can salvage - actually, squirt another 4 oz of oil right in there for good measure. As you may have gathered, my omelette was greasy to staggering proportions while containing a truckload of leftover, unchewable, boot-leather steak that the restaurant was desperate to get rid of. My fresh fruit bowl looked promising, and the blueberries were good, but the strawberries were soggy and flavorless. The banana had a surprising urinal-cake overtone. The coffee tasted watered-down and uninspiring. The toast was ok! On to service: a nice lady greeted me on entry and quickly brought coffee and took my order. After she brought out my breakfast, I did not see her again until long after I finished (despite the place being only a quarter full). Taking away my untouched steak, she asked with a smile how everything was while backing away. "The steak was tough," I called after her retreating form. She shrugged, smiled, and said, "Oh well." I had a feeling she knew. I've had the pancakes here in the past and they are decent. If you've ever made pancakes yourself from scratch and aren't afraid of a hot pan, you've had better. I came in at 7:00 AM and there were 3 or 4 other tables. In the past I've come in after 8:00 and faced a long line out the door. The prices are quite high for a diner-type restaurant, probably owing to the "legendary" status of the place. In summation: If you are easily taken in by hype or nostalgia, you might enjoy this place. If you have a discerning palatte where breakfast is concerned, you should avoid.
This place is giving upstate NY tourism a bad reputation. We had a party of 7 on a Sunday morning, our expectations of quick service were low, but this set the bar even lower. We were told 35 minutes to get a table, we waited 55 minutes. When seated, two of our party were sat on the other side of the dining room. Our food order (mostly pancakes, sheesh) took 45 minutes to arrive. Another party of 8(seated after us) finished their meal by the time we received our food. Waitress gave me my brother-in-law’s omelet, and forgot my sandwich - which she verified with me after taking the order…. because she “couldn’t read her writing.” She took the order again, but by the time the sandwich arrived, I had already eaten my wife and niece’s leftovers. I waved it off, asked it to be boxed up. I wasn’t going to post a review, but now I’m home and the cold breakfast sandwich isn’t even what I ordered. Please work on this, you are sabotaging people’s vacations. Edit: receipt says ‘Suzie’
We beat the crowd so well that we got there before all but one of the servers who seemed like a veteran of the business. She was polite and professional. My biggest disappointment was the generic taste of the food. As basic as it can get. The lumberjack came with dry toast, dry sausage, pre scrambled eggs from the distributor like egg-beaters and pancakes that got cold before I could open a few butter packets. (It took 10 minutes to open a few).
A Reply by the owner to my review was in a very negative manner. Yes owner, I would rather complain on Facebook regarding a small businesses failure because, as I said at the time we are finishing up eating everyone was just rushing around getting ready to close that was their focus, what was the point of bringing it to anyone's attention? With an attitude like yours there is no way you would comp my meal and I sure as heck would not wait for it to be recooked it was a lose-lose situation. Other reviewers- I recommend you go through all the reviews that have negative responses on this place;the owner comes back with sarcastic excuses for what they are saying was wrong with their meal. He is blind to anything being wrong with his place. That should tell you everything you need to know about this place he is going to have a rebuttal for everything. He gets a -10 out of being a lousy owner er.
The 2-hour drive to Old Forge to eat at Keys once or twice a year was a regular trip for us.. We have always enjoyed their pancakes. I guess that routine for us has come to an end. I got their special pumpkin wrapped around cheesecake topped with whipped cream special as I love pumpkin in the fall. It was missing the whip cream and completely raw in the pancake. It was just like taking a fork and eating pumpkin puree out of a can. I ordered a chocolate milk which was about 3 oz for two something and it was warm. Husband had one pancake he always gets chocolate chip. In the past the chips were mixed through the pancake batter and all cooked together. Two days ago it was a few on the plate then the plain pancake and a few mini chips on the top. Cutting corners much? He also ordered two scrambled eggs they came in a huge dinner plate and we're all spread out and looked very strange with some kind of seasoning which he did not want. Cost of his two eggs? $6. Yes $6 for two eggs even though the price has recently come down on eggs. We tried to get a waitress to refill our water and there were two young college age waitresses running around busy trying to refill everything for the end of their shift , as it was about a half hour till closing. That seemed to be their only focus that and showing off their hind ends in their mega short shorts. We miss the old keys and will not be back. not happening. about 30 bucks for a breakfast for two not ever returning here. That raw pumpkin taste is still in my mouth 3 days later. Gross. Didn't bother taking photos like I usually do with our restaurant trips, because it just wasn't worth it. Don't write something on your board like covered with whipped cream, and then not serve it that way!
