Great food, great pricing. Amazing staff. Esthetics are a little bit off but everything else top tier
I used to go to your location in San Jose back around 1995 before going to my classes at San Jose State University. Your chicken burrito with cheese and a side of salsa was my favorite! I wish you guys were in Denver! God Bless! Thank you for the memories.
The smell of the food brings me back to my childhood and the beans bring me back to those Sunday mexicali morning accompanied by choco mil. My order is an enchilada plate because the sauce is ……. Daym, the bean and cheese and onion burritos and nachos. Horchata always and the staff is so amazing. Been a customer for years. Ok fine so I eat here once a week.
Tasty stuff . Being vegetarians our go to items are Bean and Cheese Burritos with onions, Taco Salad, Cheese Quesadillas with onions and cilantro, potato fries, side of chips to go with the amazing amazing green HOT salsa. Now due to conserve and be conscious of serving only take outs, they sell the HOT Green Salsa in take out tubs not as free condiments when they are normally open to dine in. Easily a local favorite as there always is a line and or they are packed even with the ample dine in space they have. 5 🌟
So nostalgic being here!! The last time I ate at a TICO'S TACOS was before the SJ location burned down! Being here was like stepping through a time portal! The beef taquitos and green sauce were just as I remembered! Delicious and made fresh! Great friendly staff. Fast service. Fresh salsa bar. Seating wasn't "plus-sized" friendly but they had an extra chairs along the back wall that I was able to use to sit outside the booth. Bathroom was clean but didn't have a baby changing station. Otherwise, it was q perfect and memorable experience!
I stumbled upon this by accident, this is my first time at Tico's. While I was reading the menu, I heard she ladies talk about how good their Chile relleno was, so I went for that and the asada enchilada, that with a small drink I paid about $15-16. The food was much better than expected. The relleno was so cheesy and perfectly sauced. The meat in the enchilada was tender. They also have an incredible salsa bar with I want to say 8 options, if which I tried 4.
Avoided this place in High School because of all the urban legends but a Buddy from San Jose raved about how there was one up in San Jose that had killer chili relleno. I was in the area so I order some to take back to San Jose for him and some chili Verde burritos, fish tacos and chili Verde plate for me. Boy was I impressed w/ the chili rellano. The chili's where almost 12" long with nice coating all the way to stem. Sauce on it was great. Brought back fond memories for my Buddy. Everything else was great too. Will now visit whenever I'm in the area and Buddy wants a heads up too so he can order more chili rellano.
$1 for a tiny sauce of thousand island? Inflation hit Ticos harrrd.
I had a shrimp burrito here and it left much to be desired. The tortilla was not all the way cooked , and the size of the burrito was smaller then other places I've bought burritos. I did not eat the chips because they tasted like dirty , burned oil.
I love their food, however this last time I went Sep/2025 I was disappointed with their extra charges for anything outside of salsa. The chicken was dry and that was a shock.
Disappointed the last two times I've gotten take out here. Been coming here for decades and now they are cutting down on ingredients. I've been getting the same l order for over 20 years. #20....the taquitos shrunk! They used to have a good amount of filling, now they are literally the size of my finger. Many restaurants have cut back or cut corners, but Ticos had always been consistent 100% of the time. Sad to see they're also on a downward trend
I got the Super Nachos, and they were just okay. They melt the cheese, so its caked together with the chips, and all the oil collects at the bottom, making the chips soggy. You have to eat them with a fork, and what's the point of eating nachos with a fork? Also, I asked if they could add lettuce, and they smiled and didn't. There's better Mexican food available in Salinas.
The prices are ridiculous! This was once a great place to eat, good food at reasonable cost. No more. I won't be back.
Was a bit disappointed on my first visit here. I came for lunch and ordered a burrito. The burrito came without paper or aluminum wrapper so I had to hold the burrito with my hand and it fell apart after just a couple bites. The burrito was served with pieces of lettuce on the side. The dining room also smelled strongly of sewage. Maybe I expected more traditional street tacos or burrito style food so I definitely was a bit disappointed.
Overall rating is 2.5 based on quality of the food served and the expensive price tag for menu items that aren't worth it. I have been going to this restaurant for over 20 years and I can't believe how much the quality of the food has gone down and the price of this food has gone up. I usually avoid this place but a friend of mine wanted to go recently. I ordered a burrito and it was really watery with no flavor. Keep in mind that the "salad" is just purely bitter lettuce that no dressing can save. Disappointing. Don't waste your time. Service isn't great either.
So not the same as I remember from San Jose years ago. I came once before Covid... once during covid and today, March 21, 2020. Once again the lady cashiers were rude and they rushed me to order eventhough no one was in line. The food food was just ok... the chile verde plate and the chile verde burrito was filled with so much fat on every piece of pork meat! Yuck! Taquito plate was ok with lots of watered down avocado sauce. The expensive quesadilla that I could have made at home for my baby was ok, but my 15 month old baby didn't even like it! The Nachos were the only thing that was worth the $10 price tag, only because I did like the chicken meat. I also did not like the ladies to get mad and grab my cup for a water refill and an iced tea refill. Wow, those ladies need customer service skills or they should not be working in the front counter. There was no greeting... no "niceness" at all and I have NOTHING GOOD to say about them. Needless to say, probably will not be back for a while if at all.
Been coming here a long time, and finally got the chance to come in today for late lunch with my daughter. The food was completely different and disappointing. The rice was yellow in color and used to be the best rice around. I have ordered it by the tray for a few events. The beans tasted old and extremely salty, almost as though they were canned refried beans. The enchilada sauce was very thick and more like a mole sauce. And the enchiladas were covered so much in cheese, I pulled more than half away and still had plenty. We made it through about 10 bites before we disposed of everything and left. Heart breaking... We miss the old food we had before. Change in owner maybe...?
My friend picked me up a taco salad and the ground beef was undercooked. I was told over the phone that is what happens with this beef when you over cook it. They said they would replace it. I live close by and I understand that it was close to closing, they gave me cash and said they had no more taco salads. Didn’t offer any other option or solutions at all.
No recommiendo comer aqui. Servicio muy malo. No tienen comida buena tambien el servico vacillo hacen la comida como quieren, tampoco te va cailler bien. I don’t recommend coming to eat here at Rico’s tacos their service is horrible they yell at you as a customer and make you feel invalid for ordering their garbage food. I would never step foot into this establishment not even to use the bathroom. Save your time and money for hard working waiters and waitresses. My condolences if you actually support this fast food store.
