Opiniones de Max's Opera Cafe San Francisco
I've been to many Max's especially the Stanford mall one at the time but this place here felt really good, spacious and very friendly and enjoyable staff. That is before we even get to the food. I enjoyed my lunch tremendously and will be back again!
Best Ruben sandwich and Russian soup. Great place to visit before a concert, play or ballet in SF. Easy to park near by and walk to Max's and to the show. Highly recommend for a quick and good meal.
Come in hungry, go home fat! I seriously love this place and enjoyed sharing the experience with an out of state visitor. Can be crowded around opera and symphony events, so plan ahead.
I miss the Max's location in Walnut Creek. This location is smaller but everything is there. The great menu, piano with singer. Pastrami on rye and of course motza ball soup! If you just want dessert this is the ideal place for that too, they are large. Try the banana split sundae just bring a few people to share it.
Dinner portions are huge! Fries are always fresh and delicious. And the best part is everything is reasonably priced. That's a huge win considering it's in the city. I'm looking forward to our next date night. Had the patty melt its was great! Wife had chicken parm that was fire.
I love this place. The chicken-soup is world-class. That being said, the decor does seem a little more kitsch/retro than it used to. Service was great, but I usually get takeout. The food is generally tremendous. I hope I get to come back soon when someone is performing.
Waiter "Carlo" took good care of our group. I forgot how classy this place is. The atmosphere felt good. Even though this was a weekday and there were no theatre shows going on, they had a pianist playing every imaginable tune, people were dressed well, and it was a happy environment. our group was seated quickly, service was excellent, and the food good. The portions are generous so come hungry. Pro-Tip: Save room for desert!
What an amazing discovery! We had dinner here before going to a show (we’re from out of town). My ruben sandwich was a true experience. It had LOTS of pastrami AND corned beef on fresh grilled rye. My wife’s french dip was also substantial and tasty. There was no room for dessert, so we came back a second day just for that. I recommend bringing friends to share the yumminess. (Tiramisu and Brownie Mud pie)
I love Max’s. I’ve been going for years. Went last night and had a great dinner with the lovely piano man playing the piano. Not something you see a lot of in San Francisco. They currently have a great Passover menu and a special menu highlighting artichoke and asparagus season. The must haves from their menu are their famous Reuben sandwich, which is massive, and if you’re a tuna melt fan, theirs is one of the best I’ve ever had. My partner had the red wine braised brisket from the Passover menu and it was fantastic. You can also get a bottle of sparkling wine for a pretty affordable price compared to other restaurants. The staff is always so friendly. I love it here. Menu is huge with a great selection for everyone. Give Max’s a try if you’re in the area!
Great place to have drinks before going to the Opera. We really appreciate the great staff and excellent food. Rose the bartender was fun and knowledgeable. They had a huge selection of sandwiches and lots of excellent made desserts. What really sets this place apart is the live music played on a baby grand piano. I give Max's opera cafe five stars.
Stopped for quick dinner before the Opera. We were seated quickly, and the speed of the service was appreciated in order to make it to the performance on time. Enjoyed the wedge salad, Reuben sandwich and hot fudge sundae.
First time visiting this classic deli inspired restaurant. We went before the ballet. It's a big place and it's not fancy. But the staff are super friendly and the portions are generous. It's got a very classic feel. No pretenses. Nothing special. Just solid classics. They have seasonal specials so for spring it was heavy in asparagus and artichoke which are two of my favorite things. We started off with the mushroom appetizer which I would absolutely go back for! Then each of us got an entree which was way too much. And a slice of carrot cake which was overkill but how can you say no?
Pot pie was great, but seeing a woman with disgustingly long hair that comes down her back working in and out the kitchen turned me away from this place for good. Where are the hygiene practices here? Long hair flying around food being made and this woman used her bare hands to our sprinkles on someone’s ice cream Sunday? Hair should be tied back and secured in food prep environments and anything that isn’t cooked should required food handling gloves to be used. Never once saw her wash her hands in between going out to customer’s tables and back in the kitchen. This place used to be a wonderful classic city staple and not it’s an overpriced dump trying to hold onto to nostalgia. Also ordered drinks this didn’t come until after our food arrived. Do better.
Crab cakes: Under-seasoned and bland. Best part was the lightly dressed cabbage slaw. Chicken wings: Decent Fish & chips: Under-seasoned and bland. Accidentally gave cocktail vs. tartar sauce. Tuxedo cake: Not sweet enough and dry. I’ve had better from Costco.
We came here seeking comfort food and had a decent corned beef on rye sandwich. It was served with a pickle and Cole slaw. Also available are a selection of mustards which were necessary because the sandwich is plain. The carrot cake slice was pretty big and tasty, though a bit cold. The interior is a bit dated and there is too much glass for my taste. Staff were nice and came around pretty frequently.
This time around I door dashed a key lime pie and a slice of carrot cake. The carrot cake was very fresh and the icing was not too sweet. I would order this again. The key lime pie is a different vibe. Taste more like a mochi cheesecake n texture. Not what I was expecting and would not try again but anything is worth a shot once. The side of whip cream made it a little better but over all not it.
Some meals were very below par. One of five meals was good. Service was friendly enough but not that good. Some food was cold. Appetizers came out with entree. Very many better places.
