Red’s Java House is a classic spot with over 70 years of history, located just below the Bay Bridge. It transports you back to the 1950s, and the reality is, their cuisine is really good. I’ve been a couple of times and their service is always very friendly. Their burgers are made with a special sourdough bread that gives them a unique touch. The mustard, onions, and pickles add a surprising flavor, and their onion rings are a must-try. Pair it with a house special Bloody Mary and enjoy the spectacular view. A great place to start your day in San Francisco.

Here's the thing. If you want a little bit of old school San Francisco go here. Grab a pint of steam and plate or corn beef hash. Finish your beer and grab another while glazing upon all the photos on the wall's and tables. It's a semi time warp back before today's pressing nonsense.

Geoffrey Payne

What a nice way to have lunch with a stunning view of bay bridge. Food was served quick and tasted good you can see why these guys are busy though we did not have to wait long.

G
Garnet Cheung

Excellent views and fish and chips, which are reasonably priced. The fish fillets are big and have a nice fried shell and the fries are like McDonald's.

Classic Old School I don’t even want to see go away.

Don't believe the negative reviews. The Fish N Chips were a hit. Definitely try them. Ice cold beers with a great view. Staff was also friendly.

Perfect in it's own way. It's not the best burger you'll find in the city. But what they do, they do well and at very reasonable prices. Highly recommend stopping by for a bite and beer on a sunny day

J

Really good vintage type place to grab a nice hearty bite to eat. Definitely a good place to go to when you need that extra help getting over a hangover, burgers are tasty and greasy in a good way though, lol. Chili cheese fries are great, I recommend the double cheese burger and laguinita combo with the chili cheese upgrade. Cool little spot to pregame before a giants baseball game as the stadium is right next door. The view from the outside patio is amazing, and the old black and white old framed pictures inside give this restaurant's age credit! Theres a big parking next door i highly recommend too that leaves the ferry building just a small walk away incase u plan on visiting there too.

Great place yo grab coffee and watch the waves or sit with friends to have a meal. Nice and quiet inside, or breezy outside. Good combo deals too on burgers, hotdogs, ect.

Always worth to get there for a snack while you look out of the window to the bay and enjoy the old fashioned but true interior. When I am next time in town,.. I am there.. :-)

Go here because it’s great. Go here because you should. Go here to get an amazing simple burger on sourdough. Go here for the coffee. Go here to have an ice cold Anchor Steam with your burger and fries. Go here for breakfast. Go here because it’s the last of its kind. Go here because it’s always here for you. Just go.

If you ever find yourself craving a burger while in the city, here you go! Been coming here for a while! Single cheeseburger, fries, onion rings to die for. Oh and they also have a special day of the week menu! You'll have to check them out to see those specials, but those are yummy too! Great service, great view, right off the Embarcadero, and the dining room is open. Love this place!

Just moved to this neighborhood and this is easily my new Saturday morning spot. Delicious and fresh corn beef hash, crispy sour dough roll for toast, and nicely cooked over easy eggs (no runny white at all). Has that diner vibe that reminds me of NJ

Best fish and chips in town! This place is amazing. Great food, great prices, and fantastic service. Sam was my server and he went above and beyond. The kitchen guy was very nice too! Didn’t get his name but they both made me feel very welcome. I was visiting from Portland. I walked all over SF to find the best fish and chips, and THIS was the place! SUPER RECOMMEND.

We absolutely love this place! It’s wonderful and I find some of the items on the menu quite appetizing to share!! If I am focusing on feeding my self breakfast. At least once a year I try to get here before 9am on Saturday. The corn beef and hash is legit!!!

I recently had the pleasure of visiting Red's Java House, an iconic establishment nestled on the picturesque waterfront of San Francisco. Known for its old-school charm and delicious comfort food, Red's Java House has been a local favorite since 1912, and after my visit, I can see why it has stood the test of time. From the moment I walked through the door, I was transported to a bygone era. The interior of Red's is delightfully rustic, with weathered wooden walls adorned with vintage photographs, memorabilia, and nautical accents. The place exudes character and history, making it a unique spot to dine. The menu at Red's Java House is simple but satisfying. They specialize in classic American fare, with a particular focus on burgers and sandwiches. I opted for their renowned Java Burger, and it did not disappoint. The patty was juicy and flavorful, perfectly complemented by the melted cheese and fresh toppings. It was a no-frills, hearty burger that hit the spot. As I savored my burger, I couldn't help but appreciate the stunning view outside. Red's Java House is situated right on the waterfront, offering panoramic views of the San Francisco Bay, the Bay Bridge, and the city skyline. There are few places where you can enjoy such a delicious meal while soaking in such a picturesque setting. What truly sets Red's apart is its undeniable charm and friendly atmosphere. The staff members were warm, welcoming, and full of stories about the establishment's rich history. It's clear that they take pride in their role as custodians of this iconic establishment, ensuring that each visitor has a memorable experience. It's worth noting that Red's Java House is not a fancy, upscale eatery. It's a casual, unpretentious spot that captures the essence of old San Francisco. The prices are reasonable, and the portions are generous. This is the kind of place where you can kick back, enjoy a tasty meal, and revel in the nostalgia of a bygone era. Whether you're a local looking for a dose of nostalgia or a tourist seeking an authentic San Francisco experience, Red's Java House is a must-visit destination. It's a true gem that showcases the city's history, charm, and culinary delights. So, grab a seat at the counter, indulge in a burger, and take in the breathtaking views at Red's Java House. You won't be disappointed.

Every now and then you need to slow down, catch your breath, and have a treat. I found myself in this situation on a sunny Thursday afternoon and Red's was there to deliver. If your day is calling for some great fish in chips in a relaxing bay front outdoor patio, this is your spot.

Love this place! Almost seems back to normal! Can’t beat the view and food is good! Customer service is good too! Park next door and tell them you’re going to Red’s!

I've being coming here since I was a in 2nd grade and 35 years later it's still one of my favorite places breakfast/lunch spots to share with people. If you get there early enough, you get to see boats dock and pick up food. And no matter what time of the day, incredible views of the Bay Bridge. Love this place. Authentic. Quality. SF staple.

Before the game stop, line was out the door and place was packed! Quick friendly service, our burgers were ready in less than 5 minutes! Sat on the outdoor patio in the back, tons of Giants fans having a blast and good eats!

It was 14 years in between visits, but it is still a great place. Good burgers on sourdough & a PBR. Hard to beat.

M

This location is iconic to grab a hot dog and watch the Bay Area. We ordered a plain hot dog and added our own condiments. The internal store is worth your time. There is so much history on the walls here and made into the table tops. Share a meal outside in the back courtyard or take it to go. Paid meter parking next door but when we visited the gates were open and no one around.

N
Nikolai

Really great place with a nice view, and we used to go regularly for breakfast .. but couldn’t yesterday, due to the adjacent parking lot removing the pay by hour option - it was absolutely empty, so clearly no event, but ticket machine was turned off and the only options was to pay flat fee of $40. I checked today and it’s the same (photo attached) I’m really worried that this approach from the parking lot owners will kill Red’s Java, one of the few remaining OG SF places with a great history

S
Sara Martin

What you see is what you get - over 70 years of history at Red’s! The fish and chips were by far our favorite and we had to stop in anyway because of the late Tony Bourdain, which you can never go wrong with spots he’s visited.

B
Bartholomew Roland

Wanna gird yourself before the $15 beers and $7.50 hot dogs at Oracle Park? Do you enjoy sitting by the wharf, watching seagulls stalk leftover fries, and throwing back a bucket of 6 PBRs for the same cost of one Coors Light in the ballpark? Then stop by Red's. I can't tell you much about the java, but there's no better place to pregame a 12:45pm Giants game. Pro-tip: the portable toilets usually have a much shorter waiting line than the indoor bathrooms.

B
Baydestrian

Cool little lunch spot, great views of the bridge. Was told it gets pretty packed for Giants pre game.

Fantastic burger, great location. Cool vibe.

A must-try when visiting San Francisco, this dockside greasy spoon (built on Pier 30) carries a long and colorful history as well as front-and-center Bay Bridge view. Far from gourmet (read sign: ”We don’t serve tomato or lettuce”), the breakfast and burgers are simple, stick-to-your-bones divvy staples. Back patio and cheap beer-burger combo a plus.

J
Jenae Lien

Inexpensive, home-style diner cuisine with an unbeatable view of the bay bridge. Situated right next to Pier 28, with big windows and outdoor seating to enjoy your meal. $2 hot coffee, nice and strong. No cold coffee but yes to cold beers! Even though it’s called a Java house, there’s only 1 kind of coffee. Feels like Grandma’s kitchen in there. Metered street parking out front. Cash is best here.

D
D Barnes

Lovable Dive. Its ON the waterfront, OVER the water. Parking is all around it, plenty of parking. We liked the food, ww had breakfast quesadilla and pancakes with Java. Service was personable and good. We will come again for lunch. Oh, I forgot to mention the bar in back where we looked out at the cruise ship docked close by across the parking lot. Must be fun in the evening. Bar was featured in a TV series with Billy Bob Thorton.

I have been visiting this place off and on for the last 20 yrs. Food is classic americana. They've added outdoor seeting for a nice view of both the giants stadium and the bay bridge! Double cheese burger, a pint and fries!! Cant miss!!

This is a San Francisco icon. I am lucky to live close and enjoy eating here on a regular basis. Food is great and the staff is super friendly. This venue is a true safe and friendly San Francisco experience that you must try. Please support this type of local San Francisco business that are important to neighborhoods.

It’s a good place to have burger at this place and enjoy the beautiful beach view. There are some flies at this restaurant. But for the food part I can’t resist the delicious food which offered by this restaurant. I ordered double cheese burger and it comes with the sourdough bread which is good and the onion ring is so good and fresh just cost me 6 dollars for the rings ! It’s an old and historical restaurant which amaze me !

R

It is exactly what it looks like. A place to get a fast, cheap burger & beer. And eat it while enjoying the ocean air and the bay bridge. Oh, and the burger is served on a *sourdough* bun - nice!

B
Brian L. Frye

I love this place, primarily for the setting. Get a burger on a sourdough roll & sit outside in the sunshine & watch the bay. What could be better? A classic SF spot, not to be missed.

YUM!!!!⭐️AWESOME!!!!👍Amazing experience!!!! I read that the great Anthony Bourdain ate here so we visited too see what it was all about. Ok, this place is amazing!!! Simple, historic, delicious! Toasted sourdough double cheeseburger with onions, pickles, mustard- so good, so juicy!🍔The garlic fries were also good.🧄🍟Cold water on tap. I like water.💧 The inside is interesting with many past celebrities photos. Large outside bar area on the water.🍻🍸🌊 I give this place high praise. Everything was great. Stepping inside to Reds feels like entering a living piece of the city's past. It genuinely feels like Red's hasn't changed in 100 years--from the narrow footprint and worn bar to the vintage signage and unapologetically old-school vibe. Add in the great views and constant sounds of the Bay Bridge overhead, and it becomes a full sensory experience that's impossible to replicate anywhere else. Red's menu mirrors that same philosophy: robust but simple. It runs the full range from fish and chips to pancakes, covering breakfast through lunch without drifting into trend-chasing. But the most important note--the one regulars care about--is the famous Red's burger, served exactly as intended: mustard, pickles, and onion. Period. No lettuce. No tomato. No substitutions, no apologies. That same mindset applies behind the bar. The Red's Bloody Mary process is as stripped-down as it gets: the bartender (Shout out to Sammy!)--who might also be the manager and the cook--pours vodka, adds the mix, and finishes with exactly five shakes of Tabasco. That's it. No shaking. No stirring, served in a plastic disposable cup. The ice does the work, the drink settles on its own.

Classic historic waterfront diner, no frills just thrills! One of my favorite places to stop before a giants game, the sourdough burger is a sf staple and a must try! If it’s a game day show up early

Red’s Java House is a San Francisco classic along the waterfront by the piers. They have indoor seating, and you can look around and catch real history on the walls here. Outside, there’s plenty of seating on the pier by the water, view of the bay and High Dive. Food is affordable, vibe is relaxed. If they’re not busy they’ll make breakfast past 11am… maybe! Ha. There is a bar in the thorough way to the pier seating and a few tables there too. You order food at the from counter. Stop by, relax, eat a double cheeseburger, sip a coffee or beer. It’s a good time.

We stayed the night at the Luna Hotel and decided to have a quick bite at Red's Java House. I ordered the fish and chips. The fish was fresh and cooked to perfection. We sat outside and enjoyed the sea breeze while eating brunch. My Husband ordered tue breakfast quesadilla with bacon. It was delicious. Service was awesome, price reasonable, clean and safe area as well!! I highly recommend!

I used to work on Market Street, so I would visit this gem almost monthly. It's hamburgers are one of the best in the Bay Area. There website says it best: There's nothing flashy about Red's. We have been here for a while ( over 70 years) doing the same thing and it still works. It's what makes us "us". You can get a Cheeseburger for $8.94, Garlic Fries - $5.43 They also have Chilli cheese burgers for $12.86 and Fish and Chips for $18.52. What sets this burger apart not to mention its incredible price is that Red's uses fresh sourdough rolls. And the burger comes with mustard and dill pickles. It's truely a work of art And the folks that work their are friendly and you can tell they take pride their business. Matt says if you are hanging out on the Embarcadero or are headed to the Giants game, stop at Red's for a hamburger or hotdog. It will put a smile on your face.

First time here. Was not expecting the burger to be this good. A bit from the traditional burger. Their bread choice for the burger is so GOOD!!! Definitely coming back when I find my self this close to the bridge. Hats off gents. 🤤🤤🤤

Dive bar all the way! Eat meat, drink beer, watch sports - what more do you want from a staple in SF. Great place to hang out and have some fun. The burger was good and the bread was unique. The onion rings were crisp. I sat outside and had all the smells and views to go with it. Cool place.

Quick, inexpensive fast food restaurant with bar. From the front, it doesn't look that big. Once you walk in, you're surrounded by old photos and framed newspaper clippings in a seating area. There's hall that goes past the kitchen and a second dining area and leads to the patio in the back. The menu is simple and the service is fast. I ordered a cheese dog with everything ($8.94) and garlic fries ($5.43). The cashier yelled to a cook for garlic fries and I had a paper tray of them seconds after I paid. The cheese dog had pickles and onions and was wrapped in paper. The food was good but unremarkable. You do get a great view of the Bay Bridge. There was a single restroom inside and two porta potties outside. The tables can be messy if the staff is busy and the customers don't clean up. Check this place out if you want food and drinks fast and at low prices.

Rustic and calming. A very quiet place with a beautiful view of the harbor and the bay bridge. When I sat down i felt all my troubles slip away. I had a egg salad sandwich and onion rings. The food was really fresh and the atmosphere was tranquil. Really nice break from a hectic life. If you need a time out and some great food, this is the place. I live across the street. Honk twice when you drive by send me a shout out.

Red's is known for its burgers. The burgers come on a half of a delicious sourdough loaf and it's real sourdough. It's chewy, it's toasty brown on the outside and it's tangy. However, I can never pass up the chance to get their fish and chips, no matter what time of the day I arrive. They're my favorite fish and chips, which they make to order, dipping cod fillets in a PBR beer batter and frying until golden. And they're a good value.

This place is all about the history. When you walk in you can feel the history pictures everywhere giving you the vibe that if the walls could talk which they really can because the pics have archived the history around the building. The food Is good but it’s not about the food it’s about where you are eating the food. We had pancakes with eggs and bacon (wish the pancakes were softer or fluffier. Also a sausage patty breakfast sandwich with egg and cheese on sourdough bread. (I wish there was more meat on the sandwich) The vibe That’s why you should come here is because you want to experience eating right of the water, reviewing all the history stored in the photographs.

M
Mike Wallach

I've been in San Francisco for over 40 years, and Red's Java House has been here longer than me. "No frills..." is the usual description and that's apt. But you don't come here for a gourmet burger. You come here for the location and the history. The double cheeseburger, fries and a beer are my standard fare. "Everything" means mustard, onions and pickles. For future reference, I'll put the pickles on the side. This was a classic smashburger decades before people started calling them "smashburgers". They've upgraded the bun to a sourdough roll since my first early visits. Anthony Bourdain approved (Google it). Go. Eat. Drink it all in.

R
Robert Lowers

Aside from the flies, this was a great stop. There was no line and served as fast as one can order! Good food and fast.

Decent burger in a nice spot. Nothing spectacular from a taste perspective but it's good. I like the uniqueness and idea of a sourdough bun, but I didn't really enjoy it too much because the bread is hard. The store itself is cool.

Great spot right on the water with a lovely breeze. Order at the counter and then grab a table. Very casual and a small menu with burgers and dogs. Fast service and they remembered my name as I was leaving. Great specials and a bar in the back!

Burger was ok. The Bread was too thick and took away from the meat flavor. Hot dog was good with all fixings. Garlic fries were normal.

j

A classic throwback hamburger and hotdog stand. Waterfront dining in front of the Bay bridge on the cheap. Burgers are nestled in between the freshest and chewiest sourdough creating a unique twist from the boring bun. Crispy garlic fries. Daily specials included a delicious eggplant sandwich for those choosing vegan options.

I really enjoy the food and atmosphere at Red's Java House. My husband and I decided to check it out because Anthony Bourdain used to go there and spoke highly of it, and it didn't disappoint. We've been there a couple times now and I love the veggie burger, my husband likes the fish & chips, and the onion rings are crispy and delicious. We like sitting out on the back patio right on the water.

Hannah M-W

A nice little food place with oldie pictures beside the pier with a patio. Paid parking on the pier itself. Had a tuna sandwich, onion rings, and fish and chips. Could use a little more salt and seasoning and a little less grease, but otherwise it's a great hangout place.

J

The line was long and slow on this opening day of 2024, the fish and chips were ok. The best part is the outdoor patio in the back, so fun to hangout with friends. Go Giant!!!

Limited menu, but a lot of fun. Sit out on the deck and enjoy a wonderful view and have a beer or soda.

P

Not too bad when it comes to price for the fish n' chips (seeing as this is in SF where most items are $15+). For $11+ you get two large pieces of cod and some fries. Cozy atmosphere and customer service is awesome! They have a great sense of humor and have fun questions of the day. Just know they can be a bit tricky. As for the food it tasted great! Fish was deep fried perfectly; crunchy on the outside and hot and moist in the inside. The tartar sauce is nothing amazing, just plain ol' tartar sauce you can buy at your local chain grocery store, but it's not bad by any means. Fries were lightly salted and had a crispy crunch to it, yet soft when you bite in. '' Highly recommend to at least try the place out and enjoy the view!

Red’s Java House is one of those rare gems in San Francisco that seems to have been untouched by the passage of time. Every time I find myself at Pier 30, I'm instantly enveloped by that unmistakable mid-century waterfront ambiance, no polish, no pretension, just an authentic old-school greasy spoon vibe. It’s clear why icons like Anthony Bourdain were drawn to this place. This isn’t a tourist trap masquerading as local; it’s the genuine article. Most of my visits have been for breakfast, and the classic diner fare hits all the right notes. The Two-Egg Breakfast Plate, breakfast sandwich, and pancakes served with eggs and bacon are all dependable choices. However, the item everyone raves about, and for good reason, is the cheeseburger. Served on chewy San Francisco sourdough with yellow mustard, onions, and pickles, it embraces a minimalist approach. No lettuce. No tomato. No substitutions. The patties are on the thinner side, reminiscent of classic fast-food style, but paired with that sourdough, it delivers a delightful experience. The coffee is straightforward diner fare, nothing fancy, nothing particularly memorable, and that’s perfectly fine. You don’t come here for an artisanal pour-over. What truly enhances the experience is the back patio, which boasts one of the best unobstructed views of the Bay Bridge you’ll find anywhere. It’s an ideal spot to grab a bite before a Giants game, meet friends for a casual beer, or sit back and savor the stunning waterfront. Red’s Java House doesn’t try to impress anyone, and that’s exactly what makes it so charming. Simple food, honest prices, stunning views, and a deep sense of San Francisco history. Sometimes, that’s all you really need.

Visited Red's Java House last month for the first time! I get the appeal of their extra tangy burgers, served up on a sourdough roll with only pickles, onions, and condiments. And the appeal of their view and laidback atmosphere? Even better! This place is not high-brow cuisine, but it's filling and the feeling of being here is laid back and fun.

The beer is ice cold and the place is like an oasis that takes you back in time and lose track of the hours - especially on a sunny day. The 4 star is basically related to the burger. I was dying to try this SF classic on the sourdough bread but didnt hit the spot for me. Too much bread (even though toasted perfectly) and too crisp for my taste with burger. This is a matter of personal preference and I’m still glad I tried. They do a great job doubling down on mustard and pickles though. Their fried stuff (onion rings specially) are a 5.

Really dope burger and bar spot in the southern tip of the Embarcadero, near Oracle Park and Chase Center. Place can get really packed on game days (before and after the game) and there were a lot of flys inside the restaurant. The outdoor seating area is very nice though!

Note: I can't rate food or service since we made a pit stop on the way to the stadium. I will say, the food smelled great. They have an outdoor bar and seating area by the water. Seemed like lots of happy people inside. This is a must do place on our next trip to the city.

Stopped by for a quick burger while in SF for business. Wasn’t expecting a luxury interior, but the place was unfortunately quite dirty and filled with flies. That said, was there for the burger. Service was friendly and the food came out fast. Burger was decent but the bun was tough. Seems like a great place to grab some brews and sit on the patio, but the burger left me a bit wanting.

Fish and chips not so good. Great little spot and nice people though. I would try something different another time.

Great place before or after giants win. A sunny day will be fantastic as you can sit outside with a full bar..only one restroom which can be a little funky. Great food quality.

I go here when I have a chance. Faves are huevos rancheros and fish and chips. But, the recipes have changed and they aren't the same anymore. No home fries and no big chunks of beef with the beans and fake Kraft like cheese. And the batter in the fish is bready instead of light and crunchy. Not sure what happened, but now there isn't a burning desire anymore to make a special trip to this place. I guess this is what happens with all the great places.

A cute little historic pub, the word Java completely misled me to believe there would be a nice brunch selection. Although there was brunch, the coffee was not what you would expect with the only option being filter pot coffee. I had a fish and chips. The fish was extra fried a little mushy (not the flaky meat I’m used to). It must’ve come from the freezer and not been fresh. The fries were not amazing. So I was a little dissatisfied the food and drink. Great seating area along the water though.

Expensive for a burger that doesn't even come with lettuce or tomato. $13 bucks

Not sure I get the hype around this “burger” joint. The burger isn’t your typical burger, as it’s served on a bread roll and they only offer mustard, onions, and pickles as toppings. They fries were okay, nothing special. Long line to order but the food was prepped quickly.

It is definitely a unique spot - right on Embarcadero but away from the busy parts. Offers great views of the bay. I like their skinny french fries. But if you like the handcut thick rustic fries these are not for you. The idea of using sourdough bread as burger bun is intriguing in theory but my taste buds did not like the application. Their default (not sure if they offer tailored doneness) of the meat patty is WELL DONE. 3.5 stars

5 customers before us but with as many people in the kitchen it took them a while to even order. The fish and chips I had was actually pretty good with fish flakey and not over-cooked. And the hamburger was of medium-size in a large French bread hoagie-type bun with NO veggies and too much bread. My hubby says it was tasty and wouldn’t seek it out again. As for me, the meat is plain tasting- I make better home-made hamburgers than that. The tables were dirty. We had to clear ours. I even saw a couple of customers asking for a cloth which to wipe the tables, and that they would do it themselves. Hmmm.

Today was open season for the giants, you would think that would have better food preparation so when I return next game that hopefully my first thought would be visit red's Java... this definitely won't happen. The burger was bogus, on bread that I don't like and didn't have an option to choose. The coffee is ok

Great location right on the water and hard to beat before or after a game at Oracle Park. The food is decent - a solid menu, but portion sizes are on the small side for the price, which is definitely on the high end. Not bad food, just not great value. This is a great place to grab a beer and enjoy the atmosphere. If you’re going specifically for food, manage your expectations. Staff is very friendly and welcoming.

It was my first time visiting this place, I didn't mean to do so on the same day as a baseball game so there was a lot of people. If you prefer not being a swarm of people avoid game days. The place is an old school place and has all the charm that goes with that so I absolutely love that. The service was great, the lady taking orders was nice and efficient. I tried the burger and fries combo and added coleslaw. The bread for the burger was better than Boudins. The beef patties were good and the only draw back in my opinion is they go heavy on the mustard and just in case you like mayo on burgers make sure you ask for that. The fires were above average and the portion was a good size. The coleslaw was made in house I believe and it was decent. Overall it was a good experience and I would go back again.

Came here since I've never been and I always passed by it! Good: - Very convenient location! Super close to my running trail - Nice large outdoor patio! Lots of seating and feels like a place people go for happy hour at work - The chicken parm was filling - the fries were meh and the chicken parm was good and comfort food - great price too Bad: - The place is very self service and you get your food and eat it wherever - The wind was so strong our food and napkins kept flying out of our plates and hands - Wouldn't come just for the food though Overall this was an authentic SF dig and felt like a nice visit for once.

Service and atmosphere are great, I love the music they played and the cashier was friendly. HOWEVER, the place smelled bad and had flies all around. The food was high school cafeteria grade with a frozen costco patty and fake cheese, I paid $14 for a double cheeseburger and was severely let down at the quality of the ingredients given the premium price.

Interesting historical spot with a lot of character. The food was cheap but not very good - my pancake tasted like it was made from a mix and the eggs were a bit overdone. It was also pretty cold in there on a chilly day.

Another legacy SF joint that is really for only tourists. The deck is great to have a beer. The inside is dirty with swarms of flies. Multiple ppl have mentioned the flies in reviews so apparently the owners think it’s endearing. The burger was tasteless and a spongy patty. I can’t see why I would go back.

Friendly staff. Fast service. But the burger had no flavor. The meat was dry. The buns didnt taste good. The french fries was okay. The only thing that i liked was the ketchup bottle that you can sqeeze.

OMG. When I was a young adult, early 2000's, they ran a special. $5 hotdog and a beer. Now the spot where the price went is left blank. Probably because if people knew the price, they wouldn't come in. Once you order something, it's rude to not just pay the outrageous price and take a blow to your wallet. Yeah, they got me for $13. Never again. Not if I was starving and they had the only food in the city. I'd be dead.

Stopped for a quick bite, got a bad experience in return. I don't believe that a place that has existed so long has had these people running it. I wouldn't write a review at all about a cheap boiled hot dog on a cheap bun that was falling apart that cost about 10.00 with a can of Coke. What made me say something was the rudeness that turned away a group of school kids to use to the bathroom, although they bought something. They literally begged who I assumed were the owners that came out and sat behind me, then told them no, use the public restrooms that were not close to the restaurant. I was the only guest inside, I found it to be unacceptable.

Disgusting food. Green/grey hot dog with a vomit-inducing amount of outdated mustard. Wont return ever.

$80 dollars on three plates of rock-bottom quality frozen food served on paper plates with plastic utensils, and coffees we had to pump from a jug. I can’t speak on the burgers and the workers were great. They were happy and singing along to music. It was nice and they did the best they could with the provided ingredients. But honestly…I would be so embarrassed to serve such low quality food to people at these shameless prices. We felt swindled. Our mouths dropped when we heard the price, but figured maybe it was incredible quality. Anthony Bourdain is on the wall, after all. NAH. Frozen Costco deep fried potato squares, fake eggs, toast (the best part) and a single, uniform and previously frozen sausage round — all for $20. Just don’t serve breakfast. Walked away with my feelings and my wallet are both hurt.

Sad to say this but where's the BEEF?(See pic) Yeah took my mom and kid here with our dog since we took a nice walk. Been in this city since 1985 and man oh man I MISS THE ORIGINAL JAVA HOUSE BY THE GIANTS stadium. I walked in thinking I would get the same experience but ok NOT to get the WORST Hamburger in all of San Francisco..... but paper plates?!?! Is this a picnic or a business meh yeah SF is lacking the good ol mom&pops experience with cooking with love. This was pure laziness ....very disappointing.
