First time there. Good food. I had the special - Salmon Picatta. I was apprehensive because I was originally going to order the filet mignon. The Salmon in butter and capers was so tasty. I had to finish it even though I was full. Ordered carrot cake to go. Not the best I've ever had but still very good. Jill our waitress was awesome. She is funny, good personality, kind and an attentive waitress.
First time to order food here because if COVID-19.. first beef sliders in over a year and everything about them was perfect. The beef was tasty and cooked perfectly with a toasted bun. OMG... It was soo tasty. Very friendly staff and customers, Bartender is funny, well traveled and knowledgeable about drinks.
Food is delicious and portions are ample. The fish dishes, fried calamari and petrale sole, and fried chicken are my particular favorites. The shrimp Louie salad is huge. Usually have the same waitress, she does a great job serving her customers. Monday 12/7/20 they will start take out only due to covid. Go anyway and enjoy delicious food.
I don't normally write reviews but I really enjoyed my experience at the Brass Door this afternoon for lunch. I ordered the special -- meatloaf with potatoes and asparagus -- and it was delicious. Even though I was alone, my server brought me a basket filled with french bread. She kept my water glass filled and seemed happy to be serving me. The most delightful part of my experience was observing the other patrons. There was this one 3-generation table where the old were telling the young about when they once traveled to Brazil. Another table was a birthday gathering of 9 girls (In spirit, at least; they were probably born around the time the Wizard of Oz came out). The birthday girl sat at the head of the table and was crowned with a tiara by the others, whereupon she commenced to walk around the table presenting birthday bags to each of her girlfriends. Some meals fill your body; others fill your soul. My soul was filled today at the Brass Door. Thank you!
I liked it a lot. Riley was excellent, perfectly cooked, wonderful flavor cocktail was made just right
Fantastic food. I had the salmon. Green beans and mashed potatoes. Servers were prompt polite and friendly. Dessert was fantastic. I do not recommend this place for a meeting sense the walls are very thin and tends to be noisy. I would definitely dine there again
Great old school steakhouse. Everything is tasty, excellent salads, yummy bread, you cant go wrong with steak or prime rib, and great vintage bar area. I love their martinis! And they do brunch! Great for dates or groups too. Dont be fooled by the unassuming exterior. This is San Ramon's hidden gem!
San Ramon fixture since before I moved here in 1977. Pretty standard American menu but everything is done really well. Full bar, good wine and beer selection. The staff are experienced professionals, rare in the restaurant industry these days.
The Brass Door has been around forever. It serves good comfort food at decent prices. Great for families. We went there for Easter dinner. The service was also great and very attentive.
Went for lunch mid week. Seated really quickly and service was great. Had the London Broil. Delicious slices of what looked like prime rib cooked to perfection for a sandwich. Served on homemade french roll.
We came here on a random Tuesday after a funeral in Lafayette. It definitely needs to be updated style wise but besides that the food and service were AMAZEBALLS! We were a party of 8 everyone had something different and not one plate was bad. Everyone had great food. Highly recommended. We will be back again.
Great place for prime rib, crab sandwich, drinks and more. Staff are very great! White linen dining. We go here for lunch meetings and there is always plenty of room. Also has a full service bar with a great wine menu.
We picked up Thanksgiving dinner. It was really good! The turkey was moist, not dried out. Which is what I had expected. Usually, when we eat there, it is always great!
Great Food, great service, very good prices. Only $120 for 5 adult men w/drinks. The Server & Food created a fantastic meal & gathering.
Sad to see another Mid Century Prime Rib joint close…
Very accommodating we took our friends here who we haven't seen in years a total of six of us. They Place us on a good table, served us delicious, food the waitresses were very friendly and aloud us to carry on a conversation so much so that we lost track of time not realizing that the restaurant were already closed. They've could have easily just cleaned our table and give us a sign that they were close but yet they allowed us to enjoy our food our conversation and our dessert such accommodating place. Thank you so much for your patience I see why this place is very popular you guys were serving delicious food with smile environment is friendly, service is very fast. Thank you again, we left the place with full belly a little tipsy but full of beautiful conversation a place to remember with friends, thank you...
Lived in San Ramon most of my life and never had entered here. It seemed mysterious and not sure even what kind of business it was. I was pleasantly surprised by the American comfort food. Would happily eat here again. The service was cheery and helpful.
We absolutely love the old school feel and charm Brass Door offers. The food and drinks are moderately priced and consistent. You can get anything here from appetizers to pasta to club sandwiches to steak. Whatever you do, don't pass on the French Onion soup, it's one of the best I've tried! Our other fave is the Prime Rib French Dip sandwich.
A fine local haunt with a long and storied history in San Ramon. Poppin' bar - at least every seat is taken every time I've been there in the past year. I had a very fine ribeye, spot-on medium rare. Always enjoy the creamed spinach. Want your chicken piccata to be a veal piccata? Not going to be a problem. We've been there thrice in the past 2 years and the service has always been fantastic. If you're expecting a Ruth's Chris experience, this isn't it. Looking for a great meal in a local joint with a storied history? Give it a try.
After our scheduled meeting, it was quite nice to be able to appreciate such a delicious meal for agroup of 36. The Chicken piccata was excellent along with the atmosphere and the service.
I stopped by Brass Door and had their soup du jour and deep-fried zucchini — both were fantastic! The soup was comforting and full of flavor, a perfect start to the meal. The deep-fried zucchini was crispy, golden, and delicious — a great mix of texture and taste. The cozy ambiance and friendly service made the whole experience even more enjoyable. I’ll definitely be back!
Da halibut and veggies was perfect the ribeye was fantastic and garlic fries crisp and crunchy
Enjoyed one of the final days at this classic restaurant with family. Closes December 25, 2025.
The staff is extremely friendly. The menu features a wide array of food to choose from. The food items are a bit pricey but they're worth every cent.
Great old school Steakhouse. I hope it never goes out of business!
Oh my goodness what can I say. We haven’t been there in a long time but the food is still delicious!! I started with a White Russian drink. Mixed perfectly 👌. Had the cheesy crab bread. That was something else. Such fresh crab and the sauce they put on it was just yummy 🤤. I had the beef raviolis and it was delicious as well. Hailey was our server and she was just the nicest as can be. Kept checking on us to see if we had needed anything. I really appreciate that kind of service. I think I’ll go back more often. Still sooooooo good 😊!!!
Celebrated Mother's Day here for my mom and it was a nice treat. We had a reservation set for 7pm and my husband notice a table to itself and asked if we can have the table for a little more privacy. The host first said that everyone in our party had to be present, but he said, ah! It's okay, table is all yours! I regret not getting our waiters name because he was very friendly as can be. Refilled our waters constantly because we seemed to all be dehydrated. Lol! Very attentive. Was patient with our ordering. He even gave us this delicious bread while waiting for my brother and his girlfriend to join us. I happened to order the special of the day which was a Chicken Romano. It came with a side of penne pasta, but since my pregnancy cravings wanted mashed potatoes, I asked if I can replace the pasta with the mashed potatoes and gravy. He did not hesitate to say yes. When I got my order, I am not sure, but I think it was the wrong dish. It sorta looked like a chicken piccata to me. I failed to say anything because I really loved it. It was so tasty. My mom, brother, and brothers girlfriend had the prime rib, medium rare, but the prime rib they had ended up being medium well. My dad had a rare prime rib, which he enjoyed because it was rare. My husband got the rib eye, medium well, but it happened to be well done. This is why -1 star. This place is great for seniors because they have a nice senior menu. My dad made me ask if they take AARP discounts which was so embarrassing. Even though the food we ordered were slightly off, we all had a great time and enjoyed our food! I even announced that my husband and I are expecting our first child!!
The brass door is an excellent local spot. The bar, food and crowd are amazing. My favorite things are the broiled prawns, French onion soup, halibut or the fish special, Cesar salad and prime rib. This is a regular spot for many people so the best option is to grab a spot at the bar. The drinks are classic, I usually stick to dirty vodka martinis that are strong and delicious, Martin is an excellent bartender. Not too many beers on tap but they carry things like kona brewing and Deschutes which will keep you happy. This has been a family favorite for generations, so I was surprised to see negative reviews. I recommend stopping in here frequently to become a regular if you can, it’s great.
Outstanding staff at the brass door make the difference. Great steaks, well put together sides and fresh cold beers on tap at the Brass Door. Lots of deliciousness on the menu here.
Mark, the Bartender, was Awesome… Food was absolutely perfect… Salad, Prime Rib and Ice Cream..!! Highly Recommend… For Sure Coming Back..!!

This is one of those "old school" style restaurants that is an icon to the "Tri-Valley" area, that has been there as far back as I can remember, and will still be there long after I am gone. I love the menu and the variety of dinners offered. I rediscovered this "Culinary Gem" recently while visiting some friends who recently moved to Danville. We had trouble deciding what to order because there were so many items that are not available at the typical theme style restaurants, that are popping up all over, like dandelions on a front lawn. Things like Breadad Veal Cutlets, and grilled Petrale Sole,( which was my choice and was perfect). I will be heading back there again and again , until I try everything on the menu...that's a lie...lol I probably will order the Sole everytime, because it was so good, like I always do. It's right off Hwy. 680, north of Crow Canyon Rd., on San Ramon Blvd . Easy to get to, with lots of parking and in my opinion, one of the few places worth driving over to from the East Bay for a meal.
Whow! Just want to share my thoughts on Brass Door Family style Restaurant. It's been around for decades, and the food is consistently delicious. The prices are more than fair, and the drinks are generously poured. It has a very welcoming, grandparent-like atmosphere, and the location is incredibly convenient. Going to this restaurant is always a worthwhile experience. I highly recommend Brass Door
We live local and have not been here before! We loved everything about our dinner. The food, the service, the local feel! It was perfect. Definitely hope to become a regular!!
Wonderful prime rib french dip and clam chowder. Calamari generous portion. We frequently go here. Sunday has a brunch.

The drinks are average, but give a great buzz. The food is good and hot. Service was very good. We had fish in a steakhouse, so next time steak for a final decision.
She had blue plate special of pork chop, peas, and mashed potatoes. Lovely. I had half club sandwich and clam chowder. Great lunch and service was perfect. Lots of regular guys at the bar watching football on a Saturday. We'll be back
Scouted the place out for thanks giving dinner early on a lunch date with the MIL. Lunch was fantastic, so she went ahead and made a rez for TG dinner. We were not disappointed. Our dinner was fantastic and the service weas excellent. How ever they seated us off the main dining room floor in a smaller "room" with another family and we felt a bit cramped. Other wise it was a fantastic experience. Will absolutely eat there again.
We went for St. Patrick Day corned beef and cabbage, it did not disappoint. Very flavorful and moist plus good service in a lively setting. March Madness NCAA basketball was on in the bar, the drinks and service was exceptional. We will be coming back to enjoy next year again.Ok
The French Onion Soup was great. My wife had a Cesar's salad, and she felt it was awful. Her description was flavorless, so cold it hurt your teeth, and the added shrimp were just boiled, not grilled. I had the Prime Rib, and it was pretty good. We'd definitely return for the soup, at least. Had it not been for the salad, it would have been a 5 star experience. The waiter was very friendly and attentive.
Old local restaurant with old Fashioned food menu with warm friendly service. This place has been around many years. The menu is large and there is always something you'll like. The Ruben sandwich and prime rib dip are favorites. The full bar with TVs is a hang out for a lot of regulars. Parking can be tight at night. Make a reservation for dinner. Enjoy.
Go to The Brass Door if you want a comfort food meal in a warm and calm steakhouse atmosphere with excellent service. I have visited many times, and the recent new coat of paint and reupholstered booths were noticed. My young adult children also appreciate the restaurant and its niche in the community. Consistently delivers.
Came here for Thanksgiving with the parents. We had the turkey dinner plate and it was excellent! Staff was friendly and attentive. However, the dining room had no atmosphere at all. It felt like a dining hall at a retirement community.
We had a family birthday party in the banquet room. The service was excellent. My scallops were delicious, but my husband said his prime rib was not as good as the last time we were here.
The food and service was great. Steak was cooked exactly like I asked for. The atmosphere could be a little better though but that was a minor issue.
We were traveling through and stopped at the Brass Door. The only reason we gave a 4 out of 5 is we had access issues with our service dogs. We were initially denied access but after having explained ADA, we were seated. Once we were seated, we had a great time. Kyle was great, answered our menu questions, and took great care of us. We would recommend the Brass Door and would go again.
Great food, friendly staff. Upscale place, so it's rather pricey. For my group of 10, the food and service was 5-star, while time to prepare meal and my perceived value was more like 3-star...parking lot was a crowded challenge, forcing me to park out on the street, but there was a large party that night, so probably not a typical issue.
The setup here is old school, tons of parking available. Ordered the calamari. Came with tartar and cocktail sauce. Got a MR Ribeye that came with Mashed potatoes(garlic+parm mixed) Boiled peas and boiled garlic. Steak was in need of salt and pepper. Was juicy but lacked flavor. Once i added condiments it was good. Waiter didnt seem happy i came alone or at least it seemed like it. Overall pretty nice place to come once in a while.

It’s an old family restaurant. It’s been there 75 years. So it’s old school atmosphere. The service was excellent. The only thing wrong was the steamed vegetables were not hot. Other than that the food was very good.

Husband suggested an impromptu Wednesday date night and I’d been hankering for steak, so we headed to Hana Japan in Dublin - for a 90 minute wait?! I called the Brass Door and they said, “Come on up!” There’s a star right there! Once we arrived, I was immediately reminded of a pet peeve: places that blast the air conditioning on a hot day so that people who walk in underdressed just freeze. Fortunately, our very nice server walked us to a table in the back where it was a bit warmer. I ended up ordering the Chicken Piccata and my husband ordered a Filet Mignon so we could share some of each. The chicken was actually pretty tasty, though served with some oddly sweet, orange- flavored carrot coins. It’s the steak that was unforgivable. I like a medium rare steak, especially one at a quality steak restaurant, but my husband ordered it medium as usual (no accounting for taste). What we got was a raw slice of meat with a little sear on the outside. I would expect better even at the Sizzler, but this place has “Steak * Prime Rib” right under its logo! On the plus side, it was a 9oz filet for $34, if you like quantity over quality. Other than the cheerful service and an adequate, pounded and pan-fried chicken breast, I found little to recommend this restaurant. Oh wait! Two things… - Lots of “Senior portion” items on the menu and - When my husband ordered a Drambui neat, he got a whole juice glass full! We figured maybe the same newbie bartender cooked the steak?
Nice selection of steak. Some seafood items. Halibut was good. Wife ordered stir fried prawns with fettuccini, waiter brought deep fried prawns with fries. She complained, no resolution. Had to make do with what was served.
The wings and chicken were delicious. There wasn't a last call for alcohol. Would've loved to order more drinks.
Tjey server was all alone and there were 3 grpups.of at least 15 so things were slow, mossing and forgotten. She did try her best. The crab and shrimp omlette was excellent. Typically when I go there for my club meetinga i dont order food since its usually gross....this omelet was excellent.
Food was okay. Nothing too special. Prime rib lunch did not appear fresh, looked dry. Fried calamari had a pale look to it. So I have tried it, don't need to go back
When we got there, it was mostly empty except for people at the bar. We waited a long time for someone to finally come out and seat us. My menu had old food on it. Our server was nice though, and very accomadating to our requests. The food was okay. My salad had no taste, but the prime rib dip was very tasty. It was medium rare, which was fantastic. Their horseradish was great on the sandwich. Overall, I wouldn't recommend lunch here, but I'd give them another chance for dinner when they might be busier.
We had a group of five, and ate dinner in the bar area. The food was good, but the service could be improved. The waiter did everything from memory, resulting in some errors on food and drink orders.
First visit to this restaurant....apparently it has been around for decades! Lunchtime on a weekday, the parking lot was crammed and navigation tight. Not a very attractive facade, but Inside it is large, well lit and well spaced. Tables have starched white tablecloths. Pretty extensive menu, but they are known for the prime rib. Our group ordered a variety of sandwiches. Fillings were not that generous. Portion of fries was fine, but onion rings portion was small. Wine pours were generous. Overall, nothing memorable about the food or the place.
Each room has it's own unique stench, food was just okay but they charge like it's fine dining... it's not. One of my crispy chicken pieces was under cooked, and it tasted like they needed to replace the fryer oil. Staff is friendly and attentive. Not likely to return.
Very dated atmosphere. Ordered a filet and it was as if they just took the meat, didn't season it, and cooked it on an old retired Carrow's grill. Mashed potatoes were meh, as was the dinner salad. Our server himself was a great person but he only refilled my drink at the end of the dinner. If you're considering coming here for dinner, you might as well look for a Denny's and order a serloin.
I went here once awhile ago and don't remember the food being all that it was made up to be. I would recommend going to an outback steak house over going here as it's more affordable and I would say it's the same quality if you are looking at steaks.
Watering hole for lunch. Service is what to expect at a bar/ lounge area. I would only go again if I was taken and did not want to be rude. I would not go back. Sorry. Service was slow. Bus person did the work.
I suspect this was cream of the crop back in the day. Those of you who've been coming here for years should keep coming back. I only paid one visit, and for me, the experience was lackluster. The rib eye was nicely cooked but unseasoned, as was my dinner-mates fillet and prime rib. We visited several other restaurants during our week in town that were noteworthy, but alas, this one was not.
Used to be a favorite spot to meet friends. Surly lazy servers are a total turn-off. Water served in a chipped glass, orders confused. This place was once a bright spot. Now it is a fading star. I won’t go back. Same fate as Flames.
While I respect that this place has survived for almost 70 years (est 1955), I’m not exactly sure how. It’s basically a diner for seniors charging those of us without our AARP cards fine dining prices. I had lunch here, alone, with only seltzer water to drink & it was NINETY BUCKS with tip. Granted It was a “fancy lunch” but…no…just…no. $2.95 for seltzer out of the bar gun? Check. (Also had to change my glass as she noticed the first one had lipstick on it…charming). Free refills tho, so… $8 for a “side salad” that was MAYBE 2 cups of iceberg lettuce (literally) with a single microscopic sliver of red onion & a paper thin slice of carrot (singular), 5 croutons (yes, I counted) & maybe 1/4 cup of the most watered down Bleu Cheese dressing I’ve ever seen (this was after the waitress brought my first dilapidated salad w/ the dressing mixed in when I expressly asked for it on the side…not a huge deal, but kinda annoying when I’m 1 of 2 diners in the joint (that grew to about 9 by the time I left). Prawn cocktail was 5 decent-sized shrimp & some cocktail sauce, which showed up as $20 on my bill. I went back to the menu as I was pretty sure it was listed at $18 (it was…& that’s already pretty damn high for 5 shrimp, $4 per medium shrimp is COMPLETELY insane). After going back to the menu to confirm I asked the waitress “the menu says $18 for prawn cocktail, but the bill says $20. Did you guys raise your prices?” She’s like “oh, yeah. We must have”….cue pregnant pause…then I said “well, since it says $18 in the menu, that’s what you’ll charge me, right?”…another slight pause “…sure”. She was fine about it, ultimately, but I shouldn’t really have to suggest what the correct price to charge a customer is. Your menu dictates that. Raise the price, change the menu. I got an extra helping of the creamed spinach as my side, instead of the mashed potatoes. It was a large portion, & pretty tasty, tho it was almost more sweet than savory, so I added a bunch of salt & pepper to get it to where it tasted good to me. My main (which included mashed potatoes & creamed spinach) was the “gourmet cut” of Prime Rib, medium rare. To their credit, it was a thick slice, & cooked a true medium rare, with au jus & horseradish on the side. BUT easily 4-6oz of the 16oz “gourmet cut” was just pure fat. Not marbled thru the meat, but rather HUGE inedible chunks that I had to saw off & put on a separate plate. I’m glad I ordered the largest portion, or I would have likely still been hungry. It was also completely flavorless/ unseasoned. The outside “crust” tasted like literally nothing. Cut to me adding a ton of salt/ pepper, au jus & horseradish to get it “up to snuff”. This entree was $41. Service was polite & amicable, my server (also acting as hostess) was nice, & the food was brought out fairly quickly. She checked on me during the meal & seated me quickly as well (it was only 11:30am, so there were mostly just old dudes at the bar chatting & drinking & watching TV when I arrived). I’m no spring chicken, but I likely brought the median age down a bunch just by walking in (again, this is a spot for seniors & retirees who maybe knew this place in its heyday…I believe it has new owners as of a few years ago). In a nutshell, you can get far more for your money at much better establishments. Maybe folks come for the memories/ sentimentality? Whatever the case, I won’t be coming back…
The food and service was horrible. She served us well but was pretty sassy and pushy about ordering items on the menu. I honestly believe I could have made these dishes at home for a fraction of the cost I spent here. Needless to say, I would probably not come here again.
We were greeted at the host stand by an older gentleman who was not that pleasant. Being greeted promptly was nice. Our water was brought in different sized glasses which is not a good presentation. Our appetizers were lacking in quality as the fried zucchini was soggy and the potato skins lacked flavor. One of our guests ordered a well done steak that was cooked medium. It came back “fixed” and streaming hot in less than 5 minutes straight out of the microwave. Absolutely unbelievable. My wife’s NY strip steak was over cooked, tough and flavorless. My ribeye was overcooked and smothered in was more than 2 ounces of blue cheese. The steak itself was tough and lacked good flavor on its own. The only crayons you had to offer were broken ones from the Outback Steakhouse The soda was flat and blender was broken at the bar. While there, a group left because no one greeted them at their table. There was a waiter that had his keys attached to the outside of his pants. At head level they jingled in the ear every time he passed. The waitress was new and pleasant. The support staff saw on point filling drinks and clearing tables.”The Brass Door” is a solid name for a dining establishment but it should also have one. I felt that they are trying to excell . But lacking some fresh input and a new menu with higher quality ingredients they will continue to be overpriced for the experience and flat.
The first thing we noticed was the carpet. I personally do not eat at restaurants with carpet as the cleaning of it seems to be the last thing on the list. The second thing was the odor of what smelled like an old building. We decided to cancel the reservation and go elsewhere. Granted that the food might be amazing, we simply couldn’t get past the environment of the restaurant.
We went twice to this restaurant. First time it was so so, second time it was barely tolerable. The service was OK, but the food was well below average compared to other restaurants in the area. The place looks and smells old. I will not return.
We’ve been coming to this restaurant for nearly 40 years, so hearing that they are closing was genuinely sad. Like many others, we came in one last time hoping to enjoy our longtime favorites and say goodbye. Unfortunately, the experience was disappointing across the board. All five of us ordered our usual meals, and every dish showed a noticeable drop in quality. The burger was burnt and overly charred. The filet arrived rare instead of medium-rare, and when sent back, it returned burnt and completely inedible. The salad was mostly cheap white lettuce, with just a few croutons and a single cherry tomato — a far cry from what we’ve known here. The fries had no seasoning at all. When we arrived, we were told there was a long list of items already unavailable, which was surprising given how busy the restaurant was. What was most concerning, however, was a fruit fly issue. I personally killed six fruit flies, and the person across from me had several as well. When we politely mentioned this to our server and showed her the bugs, the response was dismissive and came with noticeable attitude. The manager echoed the same — acknowledging the problem but offering no explanation or reassurance that it was being addressed. To cap off the evening, we were told that even the ice cream for the senior meals was unavailable. We understand the restaurant is closing and that this has likely been an emotional and challenging time for the staff and owners. That said, it was clear that standards have been let go, which was heartbreaking for a place with such a long and meaningful history to our family and community. We truly wanted this visit to be a positive farewell. Sadly, it felt like the owners have already checked out. I’m sharing this not out of anger, but to honestly inform others who may be planning a final visit so they know what to expect.

I loved their Prime Rib French Dip Sandwich with steak fries, however the last three times I've ordered takeout and have been very disappointed. I always ask for a medium rare, yet the two previous times, got home to find out that it was very well done with very little meat in the sandwich. I gave them another try today and again disappointed with little meat in the sandwich and lots of fat, but at least they got the "medium rare" correct this time. Unfortunately there is no consistency, and when you're paying $30 for a sandwich with a 20% tip for takeout, you expect quality and it to be right. I've been a prime rib dip fan of theirs for 18+ years, but sad to say, this will be my last time going to Brass Door.
Came here on a recommendation from next-door on Valentines Day. Not good at all, overpriced for the quality of steaks we ordered. NY steak, prime rib and French dip were all not seasoned and bland. To top that poor service all around.
If you want a good dining experience, I hope you don't get Rod as your server. Worst dine-in service of 2022! I thought I would wait a couple of days before I posted this, however the experience still lingers in my mind. My wife and I have been excited to try this place for some time now; as many of the locals have raved about the prime rib. We made reservations 1 month prior and arrived 5 minutes early the day of. Standing there admiring the atmosphere, no employees ever greeted or acknowledged us. Instead sat a couple, who cut in front of us, despite our reservations. We were invisible. Eventually we were placed at a booth in the very back. 15 minutes went by and we had our first and last interaction with our "Waiter" Rod. He rudely asked us "whad ya want"; as if we were in a New York Deli. We ordered the Chessy garlic bread and 2 of the 12oz prime rib dinners. I'm glad we ordered both items at the same time; as we never saw Rod again. The cheesy bread was decent, it was chewy and sour, and reminded me of something I would make at home. The prime rib was great and the side mash potatoes and creamed spinach was amazing, but small portions. During our meal, the only people who checked on us were the bussers, who frequently refilled our waters and cleared our plates. The waiter (Rod) was nowhere to be found. After our meal was finished, the wife and I were ready for dessert(chocolate cake). We waited 15 minutes to try to get the attention of our waiter, but he refused to look our way, continuing to check on others. I stared at him, hoping to make eye contact, but he was good at ignoring us. I eventually flagged down a busser and he said he would grab our waiter. 15 minutes pass by and.....nothing. By now, I was noticing that all the other servers were helping their tables and we were the only patrons sitting there with no service. I was fed up with the lack of attention and just wanted the bill and go elsewhere for dessert. At this point I was livid and I refused to spend anymore at this establishment. I waited yet another 15 minutes to get the bill, but just like before; nobody ever came. Frustration kicked in and my core temperature was heating up. I marched right up to "Rod" and demanded he closed us out. He gave me the receipt and noticed I was angry. He apologized for the service (little too late). I would have been more understanding if he apologized during the service. He only apologized because it was time for gratuity. Its a shame I spent that much money on a terrible experience, as I had such high hopes for this place. Its sad that I received better service the next day at a "hole in the wall" taqueria. I have an inkling of why I was treated unfairly, but don't want to make those assumptions. Food was good, but if I decide to return, it will be for take out only.
Food was bland. Steak was overcooked and undercooked, ordered chicken in oil ( forget the name) and the oil was expired and sour. They then tried to say that was just how it tasted. service was ok and atmosphere felt like I was in a funeral home
I was really fond of this place. Unfortunately, tonight's experience shows the reason for the falling ratings on Google. I decided to take my parents here for my birthday tonight. Upon telling the server my order, she told me she would not put in my steak med well as I requested and would put it in med. Either she "knew better" than me or this is due to their tunover rate (it takes too long to cook med well for the establishments liking). It came out under cooked and med rare (a lot of pink). We decided to go to the bar for a night cap, hoping for better service. 15 minutes later, the bartender finally slammed our drinks down on the bar without saying anything, other than what do you want when we first sat down. He then went back to talking with his regulars. We wanted another round, but the 8 other people at the bar were a bit much for the bartender to handle, so we left. As a bartender for over 15 years, I can attest that this was a rough experience. I hope the owners/managers realize what is happening and make changes for the better in the future. This place used to be good. I feel bad for recommending it.
Definitely more dive bar than restaurant. The prime rib was offered as the best on the menu, was full of fat, tough to chew and tasted 3 days old. Atmosphere was very much situated for the senior crowd with dated furnishings and darker lighting. Service was good.
I have been going there for the last 7 years.I go once a week and order the prime rib french dip very rare. The last 3 times it has been so well done that I couldn’t eat it. I took one back and they did nothing about it. The only good thing was the prime rib. Very poor customer service.
I rarely write reviews but I just had to on this one. The worst steak I've ever had. Overcooked. Just blah. The sides are not far behind. The atmosphere is like it's 1997 again inside with dated decor and patrons appearing to be overwhelmingly into the 50's. This is not really a place for good ambiance and food. It appears to be a gathering place of some sorts after work etc(locally). Worse of All, quite expensive compared to other places that serve the same quality. Hard pass.
Horrible experience! Service was very slow, took 45 minutes for 1 cocktail and 2 bottles of wine. We were are a party of 11 and were there for 3 hours!! Our server was very nice, but she should of asked for help as she clearly could not handle our table nor the other 3 (smaller tables) she was servicing. The food was served lukewarm and our meals did not come out together. Its unfortunate that I won't be returning here for quite some time to give them a chance to hire more help and maybe turn things around. There are plenty of other restaurants that I would rather frequent.
This restaurant should be avoided – we wanted to try something new in the Danville/San Ramon area and ended up at Brass Door. I had the Sol (fish) and got extremely sick about 2-3 hours after the meal threw up for about 30-45 minutes. Luckily, I felt better after having thrown up to be able to avoid the emergency room but felt the effects the following day. We should have known when we walked in and then again when the food arrived, the food was cold and felt old and reheated, and the place wasn’t clean. While my wife didn't throw up, she was nauseous all night, she had the Chicken Piccata. My wife called the next day to let them know so that the restaurant can take measures to prevent it from happing to others. Unfortunately, they were dismissive, even the restaurant manager was dismissive when she returned our call. They suggested that we were the only ones with that experience. The manager then offered up a free meal for next time by asking for her when we are there. We will not be going back so there will not be a next time, we would not even go back if they paid us. If this review helps prevent at least one person from experiencing what we did, then it's all worth it.
Probably one of the worst thanksgiving dinner we ever had. Turkey was so salty and not edible. They had peas and onions, non flavored and the sweet potatoes were horrific. An expensive dinner for such a non edible dinner. We paid and could not eat. It was simply horrible. They were established in The 70’s and their cooking all chemical style never changed.
I had the worst experience at Brass Door last week. I have never had a bad meal there in over the 50 years I have gone. I always have the prime rib rare. First time to done. Second time to done. Meanwhile the other person I was dining with was already done with dinner. After the second time I asked the waitress what was going on. She was very apologetic and said that all three roasts were cooked medium. She asked if I would like a steak. Against my better judgment I ordered the ribeye. I had her box it up and I went home. Had one bite. It was terrible and tough! I brought it back the next day and asked to speak to the manager or owner. I was told the owner was in the office and would be out shortly. I waited for over 20 minutes only to be told she was not there! The hostess then called the manager and the owner told her that there was nothing she could do!! She did not even have the decency to speak to me on the phone or in person!! Danny would never ever treat a customer in that manner! I am truly disappointed and disgusted. I will miss the wonderful staff and used to be wonderful food. Shame on the owner!! Seriously! So much for having a yummy birthday dinner!
I have been eating here for the last two years on a monthly basis. Usually the experience is more than pleasant and the food great, especially given the price point. However, something has changed in the last two months. The last two visits have been far less than underwhelming. One month ago, visited for lunch, and our sandwiches were not edible (both the Ruben and the Tuna Melt). Also did not receive our appetizers. The waitress told me we never ordered an appetizer. I would have expected an apology for the misunderstanding and an offer to put the order in - but no, just a comment to me that I never asked for an appetizer. Yesterday, went for lunch again. Same waitress. The appetizer of fried zucchini was burnt looking (like the oil in the fryer needed to be changed). The calamari almondine smelled fishy even after smothered in the lemon butter sauce. Pasta side was over cooked. Vegetable side was old looking. My dining partner ordered a sandwich and cup of soup that was gross looking. However, the coup de gras was a bottle of mustard that the waitress brought to the table, which had disgusting dried chunk of mustard and other stuff attached to the top of pour spout. We did not eat the food, for fear of maybe getting sick. We paid and left.
Wed 3/19, 4 people. Not busy at all, yet 20 min Wait for drinks. Never saw bartender. Ordered dinner, arrived in 15 min. Every dinner was luke warm, even French fries. Seemed like leftovers from lunch. In the past food has always been EXCELLENT. Completely ruined our evening. Not sure if we will ever go back.
Does this look like a 30$ dollar steak to you?! I have had steak in many places , first of all, I could x see the meat glue on it and I think they just boiled it and kept in the fridge and in two min! It was in my table! Disgusting, my bill was $65 and I did not enjoy any of it, never go back there again
I ordered my prime rib rare. They brought it medium. I returned it and kindly reminded them that I wanted it rare. They ended up bringing out a rare, mangled, mess of a steak. The shape normally associated with prime rib was not there. It was a total mess. For dessert, I ordered the carrot cake. It was half the size of the cheesecake and chocolate cake slices ordered by the other two people at my table. First and last time I'm going to visit this place!
I stopped here because I was working nearby. I was skeptical about ordering seafood because it might not be fresh. I ordered chicken fettuccine instead. I got food poisoning and diarrhea today. The brass door was the only place I ate yesterday.
I’ve been coming to the Brass Door for nearly 50 years. The food is excellent. My Grandson celebrated his 21st birthday tonight & wanted to come to the Brass door. I’ve brought a group of 7-15 people every Thursday night to the Brass Door for over 29 years. The service and food has been exceptional. Tonight the service was terrible. The Matre Di was a Grumpy old man who was terrible. Our normal waitress Meghan was not assigned to us. The service was terrible. My Grandsons 21 st Birthday was not enjoyable. The Brass Door needs to get employee S who represent them well., not grumpy old men. I should note I’m 83 years old & this guy was terrible.
What a disappointment. Sat us at our table and never came back. We walked out with several others/... Update decided to come back for a happy hour, had the calamari which was excellent. Then, got the bar bill, well drinking at Happy Hour, 9 dollars, unbelievable
Please get rid of the smell coming out of the bathroom that is permeating the restaurant. The employees are amazing and the drinks are good, but it makes it very unpleasant to smell the order, to the point I don’t want to come anymore. Suggestion, please rip the carpet out and sanitize the restaurant
$38.00 for a half inch thick ribeye steak? I don't think so. Very disappointed. And you simply cannot prepare a steak medium rare when it's that thin. The burger ordered was better but still disappointed. Zucchini appetizer good. Most upsetting was sharing the information with the waitress and all of a sudden l was a horrible person. Stay with the actual good steak places.

I went to this restaurant on Thanksgiving and there were so many gnats flying around our table that it killed my family's dining experience. We killed like 7 of them, but they kept coming. I mentioned this to our waitress and she replied,"I know, I'm so sorry." This is unacceptable that we had to ask for to go containers to eat at home. They should have hired a professional exterminator for a problem this bad.
Had a reservation (special memorial dinner celebration), was not in the system, hostess was nasty. Gentleman “found” a spot for us in the bar. Not exactly the table cloth setup we were expecting. Prime rib was way over cooked, not good. Filet Mignon ordered medium, came nearly raw … sent back, came back in 3 mins, raw again. Ordered a baked potato, received mashed. Gnats all over the place! Table and floor were dirty. Old atmosphere that supposed to have character but rather is just disgusting. Service was decent. Will not come back. Ever!
Upon entering the restaurant it smelled very musty and old.. Dinner at 5:30, 3 guests ordered prime rib with baked potatoe and creamed spinach. Bake potato was from day before, old, and still cold inside, wouldn't melt butter, prime rib very chewy, cooked as ordered,(medium rare) but chewy, and no favor. Cream spinach tasted terrible and was luke warm. Don't recommend and won't return.
