Food was good, atmosphere was relaxing, service was fast and staff were friendly and accommodating.
Excellent and delightful food, I like the character the spot has, and the cashiers were super friendly. I will surely visit here when I’m around.
Delicious thin crust pizza. Fantastic hamburger. Friendly, welcoming staff. Relaxing setting.
great time, as always! perfect outdoor seating area and great community space. definitely try the adult slushies :)
Great outdoor seating, a good place to bring kids to. The pizza is awesome!
Love their ever varying drink variety. Fabulous food. Gotta try the pizza.
Great pizza and a very relaxed and fun atmosphere. Very family friendly.
Sorry for the lack of pictures but the food was DELICIOUS so we couldn’t wait.
Great to go with kids. Good pizza.
Great local bar with excellent food, out door seating, and friendly customers.
Great Artisan Pizza, outside dining Pleasant atmosphere.
A family favorite. Under new management, will be interesting to see how they improve on an already wonderful place.
An abundance of melty liquid cheese on crispy fries that doesn't congeal? Check. An honest bartender that tells you she's tried almost everything on the menu and tells you what she thinks sucks? Check. A bounce house? Yes. They do tell you to not go in as an adult if there are kids inside but the bartender seemed pretty supportive of me tricking the kids out. A wonky ass pool table with sidewalk chalk to chalk the beat up cues? Well, ok that's weirdly charming. There's also a decent record collection and two record players. In one off amusing things, the bartender was having her personal 90's movie shark week.
Welcoming vibe, great bar staff, food & cocktails are on point. There's a pool table and plenty of space to sprawl (esp outdoor space). Very close to Wassaic Metro North station.
Excellent food and a friendly atmosphere. This place is fun and comfortable. Very diverse clientele gives this bar a social/cultural edge over other places. I really love the lantern and it is my usual haunt
Tasty fries and beer during our first quick stop, and I hear the pizza is delicious. Spacious outdoor seating with a fire pit burning...lovely!
Perfect for a chill, no fuss evening. Especially love the outdoor area where kids can roam around!
Always such a good vibe at the Lantern. Pizzas are always excellent but don't stop there, the burger is superb! Dog friendly too.
Delicious thin crust pizza 🍕. Nice open outdoor seating. Would definitely go back when I'm in the area.
What a find! A small but amazing beer selection and the pizza was so delicious. Décor of the place is lovely. I've never had a bad night at the lantern.
This is the BEST pizza place ever!! I have never tasted anything this good in CT. My family and I go there almost every weekend! I totally recommend it!
As laid back as it can be. Small menu and small selection. Better than the Calculus 3 menus places in the city offer...I just wish my days off were Thursday thru Sunday :(
Always solid. Great beer, pizza and delicious slushies. Lovely outdoor seating area.
Great locally sourced burgers. Wood fire pizza. Comfortable place to hang out, bring family. Dogs welcome in outdoor area
Amazing gourmet, locally sourced burgers and pizza, artisanal beers, great drinks in a beautiful creekside outdoor patio and friendly service. Very highly recommended.
Very busy. Parking is street parking with a bit walking. Delicious but the seasonal menu can have very spicy pizza choices
The Lantern is a great place. Friendly atmosphere, large outdoor garden, great pizza and local events. The lantern is near the Wassaic Project, an art space, which is also worth a visit..
Great place, straight out of Brooklyn, if you did not know better. Pizza and salads good and not overwhelming in size. One disappointment tonight no burgers
Pizza is awesome. Also Farmer’s salad! Servers are always friendly and helpful!
Went here for the first time last night -- sat at the bar and had an awesome meal and great cocktails. And the manager Ming is a gem!
Really cool space. Excellent pizza. Cocktails good but not great.
Cool, laid back vibe. Pizza is tasty and outdoor space is great. Kids played in the bouncy house.
Excellent pizzas (crust had just the right level of char from the oven) and a very solid burger. Fries are wonderfully crisp and the beer list is on the shorter side, but is well curated. Plentiful outdoor seating and lightning fast service.
Very cool country bar with huge pizza hall and beer garden. Very family friendly. Pizza is great and they have some good local brews. Eat inside in the pizza hall at long tables or outside in the beer garden whilst the kids run around on the bouncy castle. Bliss with kids.
The outdoor seating was enjoyable on the nice summer afternoon I dined at The Lantern. The live music really added to the experience. I was excited to try the very unique pizza creations - had the one with Kale, which was a little too charred for my preference but my friend liked it. The local beer was good.
My favorite bar in the whole Hudson Valley, the burger is incredible, the pizza is excellent and has a great selection of local brews. Adult slushee is highly recommended. Staff is kind and welcoming. Outdoor area is fantastic to spend time with friends or make new ones.
Absolutely love this place! Short wait, fast service, good food, great drinks, friendly staff. Also the outdoor dining area is beautiful! Nestled in under the trees next to a creek, and the tables are spread out far apart enough so each group has their own little area. Highly recommend!
Among the top 3 pies in Dutchess County. Great bar, nice crew, focused menu, all delicious (especially grilled ceasar & pastas). The backyard dining at twilight in the summer is perfect. Easy for those of all ages & palates to enjoy.
Absolutely incredible food. Very interesting topping combinations. The fries might be the best I've ever had tbh. It's the quality of food you'd expect from a bougie place in Manhattan but it's in a lovely small town. Also in the evenings there's often a fire on the patio, making eating outside much more pleasant.
Love this place. Outdoor vibes are immaculate. Great brews and food. Get the dill pizza.
The "old time" bar atmosphere. Definitely a "must" when you want a beer or adult beverage and pizza, wings or any of the other wonderful menu items. An "old haunt". You can feel the stories in the old wood floors, the bar and even in the old phone booth. The tales, the loves, the friends the Lantern holds ..........sigh....... ♥️
The owners are friendly and entertaining. The food is delicious, light crispy crust on the pizza, with just the right amount of chewy crust. The toppings are complex and surprising. A favorite is the Dazed and Confused, a mushroom explosion!
Pizza, workers, atmosphere, cocktails […] Thank you !
Fantastic thin crust pizza, very cool and comfortable atmosphere. We went with our 4 and 1 year olds; totally kid friendly, at least at the early evening hours.
We went there for pizza. We sat down at the table and waited to be served. We didn't know you had to place your order at the window. The wood fire oven pizza was much better than I anticipated. They have a full bar, outside they have a blow up slide for the kids to play around on.
If you’re in the area, this place is a can’t miss for pizza lovers in a small town. A mix of NYC visitors, artist residents (check out the Wassaic Project artist residency), and townies hang out here but you always feel at home. With lots of outdoor seating and a fire pit this spot is perfect for nice weather. Definitely order the Heart Throb (a margherita pizza with a spicy kick). And don’t forget to bring singles to play Buck Hunt or a round of pool.
A neighborhood favorite. Yummy pizzas and fries that exceed expectations every time. Good selection of drafts and ciders. Come early if you want for though. Sometimes they stop for service a little early.
Have had several awesome pizzas here along with a nice rotation of beer to choose from. Very good martinis. Great vibes in the space, overall.
This is the best pizza in all of New York. They have great variety, interesting combinations, and a full bar. Their courtyard is expansive and on a nice evening it’s the perfect spot. We can’t believe such a good spot is just 5 minutes away!
Fun place with comfortable atmosphere. Great outdoors space with picnic tables, fire pit, stage for live music, and space for kids to run around (if you like that kind of thing). Wings and pizza were very good. This is more than just a bar. Seems like a beer garden/pub/restaurant/event space. Very enjoyable and comfortable.
Chillest spot to hang at! Great pizza, good for vegetarians. Also dogs are allowed here!! Bring your pup, enjoy a drink and fab food!
BEST pizza & vibes in the area if you’re looking for a cozy, friendly, casual, family friendly dinner spot. Amazing in the summer — there’s a lovely outdoor patio. But even lovelier in the winter when you’re craving A+ pizza (or wings, pasta, etc.), even better fireside. This our standby / go-to!!
Upon walking through the door it’s like transporting back to a simpler time, but with some great food. It’s a neighborhood joint that has a menu that you’d find in a trendy neighborhood in the city. I chose a burger with a heaping side of some of the best fries I’ve had in ages. The burger was delicious too! The price is on point with the quality of food they offer. The pizzas looked delicious as well. The staff was on point and nice. Look forward to going again.
Top Tier! This awesome spot is only 5 min away which is great. It’s like a taste of summer meets your favorite bar in Williamsburg. Great food, great drinks (frozen drinks) awesome outdoor and indoor seating area and a pool table! One of my favorite spots in Dutchess County hands down. Erika & Minh are exceptionally fantastic, glad to be a neighbor!
My partner and I come here regularly and they are very accommodating of her gluten intolerance. We like their gluten free pasta and chicken wings. The pizza is also fantastic but not gluten free. The staff is very knowledgeable about cross contamination.
I will give 5 stars because I don’t like bringing peoples scores down when intentions are good. If they worked on this pizza dough and temperature of oven this could be the best pizza in the area. They have all the fresh ingredients going but then the dough Is doughy and floppy, burnt but yet undercooked Imagine if the bottom of the crust was crunchy. Play with that recipe and temperature a little and this pizza will amaze.
Tasty pizza and festive atmosphere! We came with a big group (10 adults, 7 kids) and were able to spread out at the picnic tables with plenty of space. The backyard is fenced in, so we felt safe letting the kids roam nearby without worrying about them running into a busy street. Plus, very good food!
I experienced wonderful moments at this place over the course of a month. I used to come to this establishment in the evening to relax after a demanding day spent at the art residency. Amazing people, fantastic food, excellent beer. I hope to return there someday and reconnect with the 'old' friends. Wishing Lantern lots of relaxed evenings. Paul from Czech republic ;-*
Love this place! They make excellent wood fired pizzas but best of all, for my wife they make their own gluten free pasta. It is home made fresh when you order. The owner is super nice and very engaging. The inside bar/dining area is now open which is great. They have a lovely outdoor area with a fire pit and music. We plan on hitting the Latern weekly! Definitely worth checking out.
An amazing establishment with great food, great people and an authentic New York vibe. There is a bouncy house for the kids to play on, and beautiful outdoor and indoor seating where people can socialize. Craft drinks, pool, and antiques galore make this place a great stop in the Hudson Valley.
Had a great meal at The Lantern! We were seven people, ordered almost all of the pizzas, a salad, and a burger as well as numerous drinks from the bar. We particularly liked the carbonara pizza and good local beers on draft. Excited to come back and hang out in the back yard area with the picnic tables and fire. Pizzas are around $15. Some say this is pricey, but it's hard to find good casual food in the area. Lots of the fine dining restaurants (and some more mediocre ones) charge $15 for an entree and $30 for a main so I'd say this is a pretty good deal for the very high quality!
A little pricey but it's family & kid friendly, Food is Amazing and very friendly staff! We'd definitely go again!
Out in the middle of the sticks in upstate NY is this hidden gem that is a great local place with the feel of "Cheers" and great pizza 🍕
Not much of a drinker but food was great and awesome outdoors area. Thanks!
We came here after my friend's recommendation... Pizza is my favorite but I took one star because I think my pizza was too burned...
Love the cocktails food was good.
Great pizza, nice relaxed atmosphere. Great place to unwind
The pizzas are thin and delicious, but it takes a very long time to get pizzas on Friday nights. If you don't mind paying over $15 per personal pie, then you should definitely dine here.
Love the outdoor dining area and the food is good. This place caters mostly to rich city people. They aren’t open on weekdays but maybe that will change when COVID is officially over.
Great little local haunt in Wassaic, NY. Had the Norma Jean pie and local Sloop beer on tap. Great little outdoor garden space.
A lot of fun, counted more than 30 kids under 8 running around having fun. Lots of families and a few dogs on leashes. Food is good, limited beer selection.
Good pizza, good burgers, and salads. A bit noisy inside but lots of outdoor seating .
This was our first time at the Lantern. It was a little confusing to order food in place and drinks at the bar, but the food was good and we enjoyed it. The outdoor seating was great, especially for our kids, who enjoyed moving around and playing after they finished their food.
Some of our pizzas were meh...the kale one specifically was blegh. The mushroom sausage pizza was damn good. Atmosphere is cute as heck and full of families and has a shuffleboard? table. The outdoor eating space was really gorgeous.
Good flavor but small and became quickly soggy! Even after reheating in the oven..
Great food, friendly staff, and it’s hard to get bored when the menu changes weekly. However, lately The Lantern feels like a Chuck E. Cheese. And despite how delicious the food may be, it’s hard not to get indigestion with kids running rampantly and screaming at the top of their lungs without any parental supervision. I don’t blame the staff and it’s clear that the place is a family establishment, but at times the chaos is intolerable for a restaurant. Unfortunately the Lantern is becoming a place to be enjoyed only in the summer when the outdoor space is open.
Nice outdoor dining area. Friendly staff. The pizzas vary by which one. The meat based pizzas are excellent. I had the rattlesnake pizza and it was awesome. The vegetarian pizzas need some additional toppings such as garlic, olives and onions to raise up the flavor profiles. The wine selection is good. Currently all the dining is outside or takeout. Well worth a visit.
In historic Wassaic. The bar is good for quick stop for a cold beer. Old timers have plenty of stories to tell.
Stars are for the pizza and outside area only. I am not trying to bash a local place but about $50 on 2 club sodas, a small pizza, small beet side, and a hot dog I am going to give my opinion spending my hard earned money on a not so great experience. It was our first time there, walked into employees clustered at the bar area, no greeting or smiles. Confused on the layout and how things worked. Go to food area, and discover we get our own food and have to go to the bar for our own drinks. I stand at the bar with my number in hand to pay cash with 2 bartenders ignoring me until I state I want to pay. We sit at our table and the woman at the food area brings our stuff out with no plates, utensils, napkins, I’m in and out the entire time feeling like I was at work after getting off my shift and wanting to have a relaxing night with my family. The entire tipping situation at this place is extremely tacky when the customer is responsible for moving around to get their own stuff and buss their own table. I have been a server and bartender for over 10 years, small personable touches need to be made especially with a self- serve place where customers are doing most of the work. Everyone looks entitled and like they don’t want to be there. Employees had time to lean, they could at least buss tables to give customers a break. Tacky and arrogant vibe. A shame because this place is beautiful and not being used to its full potential! The pizza was delicious but we left still hungry and just annoyed about the entire experience.
Waited 45 minutes for 2 pizzas. Rude, apathetic staff. Plenty of better places to try in the area.
They charge 20% service upfront but u have to wait in line to order at the cashier, order separately and pick up your drinks from the bar, clean your own table, bring your own utensils and napkins, and put away your dirty dishes. So please tell me what have I paid 20% for..?
Fresh good food! Can be pricey but worth it if treated properly. But unfortunately some of the employees have horrific bedside manner and such rude demeanors. The one guy who did the orders at the outdoor register must've woken up from the wrong side of the bed not sure what his deal was.
Made it a special trip from Pawling expecting at least a good pizza considering is a casual place for pizza and drinks the ambiance is artsy and nice , The pizza has the aspect of Neapolitan product but thats all it was , the dough was super dense and in some places raw and for that price point the scars amount of mushroom and the quality of the mozzarella has nothing to do with a bufala used on a true Neapolitan but more to do with processed prepackaged one you buy at a deli, for $21 The salad was a mix green salad with so much red onions and some sprinkle of cheese on , served in a cheap plastic plate for $11 , you go at any farms around the area and you can get a huge bag of salad for the whole week for much less To top it all , there is no service you get your food your drinks and then you have to clear your own table , sorry but those are NYC restaurant prices , but you eat in a serviced restaurant Probably won't return
I don’t leave many reviews on Google, but in this case I just had to. I have read the owner’s below rebuttal on a prior review regarding their 20% service charge. I could challenge it line by line, but suffice it to say I don’t agree with it, and his explanation doesn’t cut it. And, why is this fee only added to bills over $50? Does that make it ok to charge some people this and not others? How about a 10% service fee for everyone- isn’t this at least more fair? I will say that the owners statement about the business operating at a loss seems absurd to me; I’m not a business professional, but if a business doesn’t make money after a few years, how can it survive? It would be easier to stomach if the food was a good value, but it’s simply not. Keep in mind that value doesn’t equal cheap; it means getting your money’s worth. They kind of fail here too. $11 dollars for a small (75 cent tops) bag of Cape Cod chips and some French Onion dip. Are you freaking kidding me? This is just plain absurd. Pizza is decent, no better; at over $20 bucks for a small pie, it better be. Fries were I think $8 bucks; nothing special but at least it was a big serving. Last but not least, the wings; $12 bucks for 6; most places are no more than $13 bucks for a dozen. Again, nothing special. Credit where credit is due: the staff was very friendly this time, but prior times if felt like they were doing us a favor. Judging by the vehicles driven and clothing worn by most of their clientele here, most aren’t hard up for a buck or two, so they probably don’t seem to care about these prices or policies. They have ridiculous descriptions for their (expensive) pastas that only a foodie would understand, so it’s obvious who they are catering to. For this hard working guy, never again.
They'll charge a 20% gratuity for orders over $50, but you need to order at the counter and clean up your own table. Burger and fries was $20 and wasn't that special.
Are they ever open? Clearly these millennials are not actually trying to run a business. I’m confused how they actually keep the lights on. Seems like they’re closed for every other pagan holiday 😂
Bartender was a complete jerk! Menu is absolutely horrible. Even the beer selection was bad.
The food here was awful at best. Pizza was tasteless. My burger had a quarter of it missing. The staff was spaced out and didn't seem to care about anything. It took way too long to get this awful food.
Please, update your hours. People drive from far away to give you business. Showing up to a bunch of construction when it says open is not ideal
Staff was extreamly rude and unpleasant for no reason. Seemed like they had no desire to be there or to make pizza. Pizza was mediocre at best. Burnt crust but not crispy if you understand pizza this is undesirable. Portions are tiny for the price. 15 dollars for a personal pizza. Very loud obnoxious music made it hard to hear the person next to me. Bar tender and beer was good, thats it. Wont be back. For real pizza see new haven
Auto charging 20% gratuity on orders above $50 is ridiculous. I have no problem tipping for good service. I am happy to tip more than 20% for excellent service. Customers have to fetch their own plates, napkins, waters and must go to the bar to get their own drinks, yet you force gratuity on them. Oh yeah, customers also clear their own tables. What are you thinking? This is a huge turnoff. Pay your employees and stop stealing from your customers.
