Avis sur The Old Place Agoura Hills
Outstanding location. Limited menu but huge portions and everything was outstanding. Wait staff was excellent. Roaming guitar player was awesome. Don’t miss this place.
Love this place great spot to stop on the way or have dinner/lunch Don't Skip on the Bacon 🥓
A cool hidden gem in the middle of Malibu. Their cinnamon buns were delicious. Tasted like an almond croissant with cream cheese frosting on top. Worth the calories. They have a cool espresso bar with a vast selection of coffee. The flat white with almond milk is always the move. Tons of seating and parking. Definitely a cute date spot or a nice stop while on your Sunday cruise.
We happened upon this place because we were visiting the winery next door. We noticed that everybody there had little buzzers going off and then would walk back with the most DELICIOUS smelling food. After a flight of wine we ordered from the outside menu. We had the most delicious steak sandwich with potato wedges. The food was just incredible. And whatever wood they were burning or smoking smelled so incredible. Such a great find.
The most amazing experience here last night, the staff are a delight, Atmosphere is amazing, and the food, oh my gosh. Please never change your food, it was just perfection. Check the photo. Really loved the two ladies who were singing at the tables too. Does anyone know their names? I forgot to ask for business card. Place is very busy so go to the wine bar next door and the waitress will come and find you there, this is how business should run - together!
GO!! I can't say it any better than that. Large servings. Great atmosphere. Super staff. BUT, review their web page. Dining services is limited and requires reservations; bar and patio are first come; parking is limited. And it is not cheap, but worth it.
Sunday drives are not without a great lunch destination. This is definitely a top 5 spot for me. Historical buildings, delicious smoked BLT, cars, and people watching was the recipe that kept us here longer than we anticipated. Wandering through the property you'll find those 1870 buildings that make it feel like you're stepping back in time but when the beautiful Porsche GT, Lamborghini, Ducati, or Skylines pass by it becomes a fever dream. Food was delicious and with everything in take out boxes you just feel like you're at the best picnic spot.
Very rarely can any establishment rank all areas as 5. This place doesn't disappoint. Meals are fixed. Order your steak or cut of meat how you want. Four beers on tap and no nonsense. Take a women here, no substitution, be a man! I highly recommend!
Talk about some awesome steaks! Wow. Wish I took a picture, but forgot. The char on the streak was amazing and cooked perfect! The huge baked potato was steaming hot and salad dressing was very tasty. Very cute atmosphere and rustic feeling. The craftman 1903 beer was delicious! Bacon appetizer was beyond tasty. Enough to share with 6 people. Its thick! And enjoyed the desserts. Lava cake is rich! We were SO stuffed when we left! Really enjoyed the night with the 6 of us and the crew that was working was amazing! Side note: There are not many inside seats and they are by reservations, so book ahead! We set ours about a month ahead. All others seats (outside and bar counter are walk up). Worth the trip out there from Santa Clarita! We will be back.
We have been coming here for years. It’s an easy drive up the PCH and aside from the beautiful drive that you must endure there is a reward worth every hard hour of work you did to shell out your hard earn dollars for a dinner experience worthy of it all. The staff is amazing, charming and the service warm and friendly. The ribeye 🥩 is the plan, cooked to perfection and seasoned with expertise. The loaded baked potato 🥔 calls you to eat it before anything, pace yourself. The meat and cheese board needs your attention as well as the baked mushrooms in a cast iron skillet. If you have room, the baked cookie and the blueberry cheesecake in cast iron skillets will bring your belly bomb to a complete end. Thank you Old place for making all the past dates, Birthdays and just because(s) perfect 👌. Enjoy 😉
We have visited The Old Place for both inside and outside menus. The food was excellent for both services. However, I must probably give more stars if I could for the outside service. Yes, you have to usually wait in line to place your order. However, the vibe is awesome to be able to eat outside. They have numerous areas spread out across their property and you can easily find an area to eat. Inside, we tried the Cheese & Cured Meat Board, the Ribeye, and the Chicken Pot Pie. There wasn't any food left on anyone's plate! Outside, we had the Old Place Burrito and the Steak Sandwich and they were both excellent. There's a little separate cafe where you can buy drinks, lattes, espresso, coffee, etc. I also tried the Manmosa ("man"-sized mimosa) and that was great as well! Finally, there are numerous wild peacocks on the property. Take a stroll while you're waiting for your food or to walk off the meal you just ate. We definitely recommend this place!
An excellent and fun place. It is not very big plac, very rustic. Loud. Food is excellent ❤️❤️ Come check it out.
I came really close to writing an essay on how wonderful my meal was here. No. I won't do it. A person could write poems, songs, and screenplays about this place. I won't do it. Just go. Go and get the steak. I had the ribeye cooked medium rare. It was wonderful. The baked potato was glorious. The salad was spectacular. Just go. It's like Disneyland for your tastebuds.
A great place to go for a romantic date wonderful atmosphere and ambience the food is superb the wine exceptional wait staff is wonderful I would highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys a romantic night out with a rustic atmosphere
Amazing food, great friendly staff, reasonable prices, beautiful rustic setting indoors, and a great rustic outdoor area as well, with a seperate wine room.
Tucked away in the Santa Monica Mountains is a a modern frontier town. Old Place, a Winery & Nursery. It was nighttime when coming to eat at Old Place & I was just in awe of the charm of this rustic little place. We chose this place because of the reviews but, after our own experience, I know now what everyone is raving about. Firstly the sourdough is amazing! We toasted over a bottle of Malbec and some live music at our table!! Truly a treat! You must try the clams & the giant bone-in ribeye did not disappoint- the portions don't either! Whatever the cheese on top of the mushrooms left me thinking about it for days, lol. All in all, a great night, great food and pretty good service!!
Cool spot. Good food with good portions. They could be a little more lax with their seating though. The barmaid said we couldn't sit at a table when EVERY table was open. The have a weird reservation process that has people's names tagged on the table its reserved for. We walked in at 4:25 and the tables were marked as a 6:30 reservation. Seriously! We can't sit at a table. Just because it's reserved 2.5 hours from now! Besides that it was a very nice place that felt like an old western saloon.
I leave around and I love coming in there every Sunday to see all the cool cars and motorcycles people are bringing there. DRINKS Also, it is a vine tasting place, though I don’t drink alcohol. But they have quite a selection of non-alcoholic wines, and beers. And I am talking about the store/bar, not the restaurant. FOOD People say the stakes are amazing. I am vegan so the only choice I have is portobello mushroom plate or salad, which I think it’s a bit too expensive. The tables outside are available on first-come first-serve. Usually there is no problem to find one. If you want to sit inside, it will be very difficult to find reservation.
Steak and eggs was fantastic. Steak was smoky and had a more country, spicier seasoning. Eggs were fresh and cooked to sunny side up perfection. They paired well with the hardy portions of potatoes. Atmosphere was fantastic. Side salad was a large takeout size. Mostly the salad lettuce green medley with a bit of cherry tomatoes and cucumber. The honey mustardy dressing was tasty tho. Parking was fine and could be found in the back.
I love everything about this place. The vibes are awesome, food portions are huge and the dishes are tasty. You can also see tons of cool cars and motorcycles that pull up here. Our favorites are the steak burrito, BLT and cinnamon buns. Don’t ever forget a side of their famous bacon. Add a Manmosa if you’re not the one driving. I’d recommend getting here before 11am on a weekend for brunch to avoid the line. This is a must go out of your way anytime you’re in the LA area.
This place is heavy on the atmosphere. It does the old Western theme without being cheesy, while serving some delicious meals. The bacon is unlike anything I’ve had! When you order the Cesar salad to go, make sure you order the bacon and chicken to go with it. It comes deconstructed so you can build it yourself and the croutons are massive. Love this place!
The Old Place Steak House is a true gem, consistently delivering delicious steaks that keep me coming back for more. Nestled in a picturesque setting, the restaurant's charm is enhanced by the presence of majestic peacocks that roam the grounds, adding a touch of natural beauty to the dining experience. The tender, flavorful steaks are cooked to perfection, satisfying every carnivore's palate. This enchanting combination of scrumptious cuisine and the serene ambiance with peacocks makes it my all-time favorite dining spot. If you're looking for a memorable steakhouse experience, the Old Place is an absolute must-visit.
Open and in business since 1970 and tucked away deep in the Agoura Hills, The Old Place is a truly unique dining experience for Los Angeles and it really feels like you are eating in a different county and time. When you pull up, it looks like a series of old western buildings, but also cozy enough and that you immediately want to check it out. Parking in the area is kind of tricky but if there aren’t any spaces available in the parking lot behind the restaurant, it’s easy to park in the neighborhood directly next to the restaurant. You will have to walk a block at most. There was a bit of confusion when I booked reservations for dinner. We have been for lunch before where they served steak sandwiches and you have to eat outside, but I wanted to stop in again for indoor dining. I didn’t realize when I booked the reservation that you need to be a party of three or more to reserve a table. When I arrived, they told me this, but it was not a problem being that the bar is quite large and many others were eating at it as well. We were a party of two and could comfortably fit and ate our whole meal at the bar. They have a fairly limited menu but a ton of hearty classics that will really fill your belly. They obviously have a very large drink menu as well so whatever you are in the mood for you, you’ll be able to find here. For our meal, we started off with one of the specials of the day, which was the Fried Pickles. To our surprise they were whole pickles and breaded just like fish and chips, so it really was a pleasant surprise. For our entrées, we chose the Bone-In Filet Mignon 16 ounce and the Chicken Pot Pie. The filet was cooked perfectly and seasoned well and I truly enjoyed it. There is such a little fat on the filet that you can pretty much eat the entire thing which is my favorite part. The baked potato that they serve with it is gigantic and honestly delicious. It was lacking sour cream, otherwise it was perfect. The Chicken Pot Pie was also a unique take on the classic dish and the puff pastry was crispy and delicious just like I hoped. Overall, this is a really fun place to have lunch or dinner and the drive out is a big part of the charm. It’s really nice to get out of the city and The Old Place is a great destination to mix up your dining locations. I would recommend to anyone for any occasion.
This hidden gem is tucked back among the canyons of Malibu. Getting here from the south is part of the experience as you meander through the Santa Monica mountains. The history of this restaurant and its surrounding buildings is well worth a read. The actual restaurant is small and rugged but charming at the same time. Walking into the Old Place takes you back in time with its historic bar, appropriately distributed architectural elements and cozy dining booths. The whole property is a fun place to explore and take in the natural beauty of this old family owned property. The food here is legit and the service comes with a healthy dose of old school family charm. Definitely recommend making reservations if you plan to eat. Even though it’s a bit of a drive to get to, the weekends tend to bring bigger. crowds. The Old Place is one of my favorites!
This is one of our very favorite restaurants. What a hidden treasure, located in one the most beautiful areas of our country. Has great food and of lovely people, sometimes accompanied by their cute little furry friends. Old place seems to attract eclectic groups of people, from families, group parties or date nights. Oftentimes you will see fun cars, a few motorcycles..... There's such a quaint, creative, old fashioned, andromantic feel to the entire property. Definitely not a boring hang. We always see the peacocks strutting about. Sometimes we also see parrots flying above. The rustic old buildings, the hundred year old trees, and the butterfly gardens are what give this a vibe that attracts people from all over. So yes, I recommend checking it out.
Not entirely a 5-star place (IYKYK) as it is more of a locally-known local’s spot with exceptional food, bar-like super friendly service and provides an overall excellent experience. I now fully understand why I was brought here by a local. “You gotta check this place out”, my local told me; however, be aware there is not a full bar and thus should be marked down a star, but the overall experience is 5-star. Our table ordered waaaay too much food (the portions are abundant), but we had to try the menu. Two med-rare and very tender rib-eye steaks (these were quite rare, but not blue), some deliciously crispy bacon (pork belly) and some Mac-n-cheese they call some kind of baked macaroni. It’s very Mac-n-cheesy. Good though. The steaks come with a deliciously loaded baked potato and a spring salad. The plate is served with a serrated steak knife, which I have never cared for because the serrated tears the steak, and even more so on the rare steak. I used the butter knife and it was a very tender and flavorful steak. The table was also brought some very fresh and very crusty sourdough bread. Great stuff!!! All of the items brought to our table were very good except only one for which I have a complaint. The bacon (thick pork belly) needed a sauce of some sort. Although good, perfectly crunchy and smoky, if this was the only appetizer ordered while drinking, you would be drunk before finishing the plate. It was in need. Just before we left, at 6pm-ish, a soulful musical artist came in the door and began an unamplified set walking through the bar area and indoor tables. Speaking of the reserved tables; be careful of the legs when sitting in the booths. You’ll quickly figure out why. A good place for locals and some not so locals. I’m understanding this is a biker hangout and serves a good brunch. A neat little area outside to walk around or sit at the outside tables. Careful, the menu is more expensive if you order from the window. Maybe again sometime. Dicks
Great place in the neighborhood. Don't expect culinary craziness, as this is more of honest good food by honest, good people. The pricing at the moment is good as the portions are giant (I joked if they source their potatoes off jack/beanstalk) I wish the seating situation was better for 2-3people groups. The bar seats are NOT comfortable. Side note, you can just order your food to go and just sit in one of the multitude of seating choices available outside 2nd side note - the wine tasting area next to it is an excellent idea for a 2nd/3rd date
I went to the Old Place for the first time with three friends at the beginning of June…and then immediately took my family a week later, it was that good. The Old Place has a short menu and does everything on it really, *really* well. I ordered the steak and eggs with potato wedges, and had leftovers for *two* more meals. The portion sizes are immense. After you eat (or while you’re waiting for your food and someone saves your table for you 😊), take twenty minutes and explore the grounds! There’s an excellent on-site shop with a little bit of everything local, peacocks are waiting to be found, and there are so many art installations scattered throughout the property! If possible, get there between 10:00-11:30 am before the parking lot fills up.
As a resident of LA for the past decade, I can confidently say that this restaurant has become my top favorite. The staff are welcoming and the food is outstanding. I highly recommend it, regardless of how long you may have to wait for a table. It is a true iconic spot and well worth a visit to share with friends and family. Bonus, the phone signal is poor inside, perfect to disconnect and enjoy the moment. It's truly the best of the best, I give it a 5-star rating.
I’m in awe. So glad we found this on a late Saturday evening. Felt like a dream. Amazing fresh food. We were there on a business trip from Toronto and the owner really made us feel at home. We got to sit at the bar and interact with the locals. This was the highlight of our trip. Outside is serene and peaceful, between mountains.
I've really only been here for breakfast on Sunday mornings at 9 AM where you order and pickup at a window and eat outside. The coffee shop is great. The bacon that comes with the bacon and eggs is exceptional. But the atmosphere and view of the mountains and fresh air is what brings me back over and over again.
Pretty neat place that magically gives a wild west saloon vibe w a guy w a banjo singing acoustics at your table. Food is interesting. Bacon as an appetizer, chicken pot pie a for dinner. It definitely is a must see. At least once.
Finally made it here! $120 for 2 people for lunch is wild, and definitely someone only Malibu residents can tolerate. Truly, changed nothing for me. It was worth every penny. Food was beyond delicious. Food was prompt. Seating was eclectic, themed to perfection, comfortable. Service was simple and dialed in. What a wonderful experience from top to bottom. Espresso shack was a worthwhile side quest also.
One of my favorite restaurants ever! Wine bar next door while you wait. Local musicians tend to wander in. Warning...portions are enormous! Nothing frozen because well, they still don't have a freezer! Short rib stew tastes like it was simmered down for a long time. Yum. Atmosphere is so fun. There should be a list of places like this set in old California buildings. Add Cold Spring Tavern... You get the idea.
A very authentic steak house with old town vibe. It’s usually crowded due to popularity. You are recommended to make a reservation a few weeks in advance. I think we booked about three weeks before to be well seated at the time frame of our reservation. We got a booth table for 5. It was very cozy. Food wise, if you are steak person, don’t is their rib-eye, baked potato. If you are a sweet desert person, order their lava cake. It’s delicious! Everything else we got was very tasty! Portion for everything is generous. Friendly price given today’s economy. We got quite a bit of leftovers back home to enjoy too! Service was good, not too warm but we got everything we wanted eventually, they were just really busy all that time. I recommend this place to people who love a good steak and a cozy place to dine&wine. I do apologize the pictures aren’t doing the food justice due to low light. But I guarantee everything was tasty.
I’m a “meat and potatoes” kinda guy and this is meat and potatoes at their finest. The sirloin is perfectly cooked, medium rare, of course, with great grill marks. The chicken is juicy, I love the dressing on the salad and you can never go wrong with a loaded baked potato. I also recommend the sourdough and chocolate chip cookie. And I really like how you have a 2 hour window to eat, makes the night go at the exact right pace.
Very cool spot. Make a reservation and bring your appetite. The rustic setting is awesome, the plates are ginormous and everything is reasonably priced for location and limited supply. My sirloin was cooked perfect, the potato is a meal in its self and the appetizers are all worth the splurge if you are are that hungry or have a party to share with. Definitely worth the drive!
I look for places that bring joy and The Old Place has been doing just that for years! It's a cozy space filled with good music and laughter. A place that cultivates unbelievably delicious cuisine that one can't get anywhere else. A place close to home but feels like a different world, rich with rustic outdoor charm, lots of seating, ample parking, and yes,...peacocks! Bring the kids, they will love it! After you eat you can take them across the street to the park for more adventures! I have had the pleasure of eating at The Old Place several times, and my favorite dish is the steak sandwich on fresh sourdough. The fresh fish and daily special salads are absolute heaven. Don't forget to try the potato wedges with fresh aioli! They have a scrumptious portobello sandwich for the non meat eaters, and for those looking to just sit and talk with friends, the coffee truck will whip you up some incredible coffee drinks. The deserts?? Unreal. Are you looking for some incredible food and great service nestled in the beauty of canyon? Look no further!
What an experience!!! My wife and kids brought me here for a birthday dinner. I was pleasantly surprised and left a very happy man. I grew up at Musso and Franks steakhouse in Hollywood. My father was the grill master for 35 years. So saying this place was an absolute amazing experience says quite a bit. You definitely need reservations to sit inside. Do it even try to walk in. The place is small but very comfortable. Highly Highly recommend The Old Place!!
Amazing spot with a unique old Western vibe — rustic wood interiors, friendly staff, and a peaceful, laid-back crowd. I had the draft beer (served in an aluminum can-style mug!), beef stew, and a side salad — everything was fresh, hearty, and flavorful. The setting is super quiet and relaxing, perfect for a getaway from the city. Service was top-notch, and the history of the place adds to the charm. One of the most memorable meals I’ve had in the Malibu area. Will definitely be back!
The Old Place has been around for a very long time and has been a local favorite. Dinner reservations have to be made ahead of time as it’s always fully booked. In recent times it has become the it spot for all road enthusiasts whether car lovers, bikers or road cyclists. Everybody comes together for breakfast and coffee or drinks on the weekends and just hangs out. Food is superb. Coffee is tasty. Come check it out and you will not regret it.
This is one of my favorite spots in LA! You can choose to sit inside or outside, and both options offer incredible experiences! I prefer Thursday nights or Friday and Sunday evenings when it’s not too crowded for a more relaxed atmosphere. My favorite dish here is the grilled mushroom, and I’ve started exploring their fish dishes, which change every two weeks. I loved the pan-fried fish with rice and curry, as well as the grilled fish with a delicious red sauce! Sitting inside feels like a cozy cabin, complete with lovely live music from different artists who come to your table to play your favorite songs!
I didn’t know what to expect in coming here as it’s a bit of a drive for me, but right off the bat I was introduced to this cool little corner, where classic cars, exotics, bikers and others all meet up to hang out in this inviting area! It makes everything seem to welcoming, the food is absolutely delicious too. I got a steak sandwich, for the price this was probably one of the best steak sandwiches I’ve ever had. Super tender meat, bread was crispy and not overpowering, I’ll say the wedge fries are a little bigger than I expected but safe to say fully tender throughout the center too! The lady was super nice in taking my order up at the window, everyone here has a good vibe and it really adds to making the trip up here worth it. I don’t think there’s a single bad thing on this menu, others in my group ordered variety and were all massively satisfied in the quality and quantity they gave. Will be back here for another brunch trip 😋
Amazing place for food and drinks! When ordering, keep in mind that the portions tend to be really big! Enjoy your food at one of the outside tables and make sure to get some wine from the main building as well! Old Place also seems to be a gathering spot for car enthusiasts - you will surely find some amazingly preserved classic cars drive by and park inside. This is an amazing place to relax with friends over some good food and some drinks after a day of hiking and exploring the Santa Monica mountains. In its neighborhood you will also find several wineries!
A truly one-of-a-kind rustic spot with a unique atmosphere, perfect for those who appreciate car culture and a laid-back vibe. The small specialty shops add charm, and on Sundays, you can expect to see classic cars, motorcycles, and friendly motorheads enjoying good conversation. The food, however, is hit or miss. Prices are on the higher side—a sandwich with fries can run you $32, with an automatic tip included. Given the limited hours (Thursday to Sunday), some might find the cost justifiable, but it’s not my go-to for a meal. The coffee shop in the back is a hidden gem. As soon as you step inside, the rich aroma of freshly brewed coffee hits your senses, making it almost irresistible. The quality is great, and while the space is small and there may be a wait, it’s worth it to enjoy the coffee there. There’s also a bar inside that serves wine and other beverages, though I don’t drink, so I can’t comment on the selection or quality. Despite that, the overall atmosphere is relaxed and enjoyable, especially during the day. I love stopping by to soak in the car culture, but when it comes to food, I usually hold off until I’m elsewhere. The coffee, however, is definitely worth the wait ❤️☕🏁🏎️🏍️🚘
Food was great, but portions are huge! Our party ordered the ribeye and the sirloin streaks, and they were both good. Service was outstanding (Courtney was our server.) The only drawback was the bench seat was very hard and not terribly comfortable. We ate inside, and I would like to try the outdoor seating next time.
Pretty damn good for first visit. I need to go back and explore more menu items. Vary nostalgic place and lots of people. Parking is a bit challenging but all good otherwise.
We visited The Old Place today and really enjoyed the atmosphere. The property is spacious, and it doesn’t even feel like you’re still in Los Angeles — very beautiful and unique. We ordered the beef stew, a salad, and beer. Everything was tasty, though the salad didn’t seem very fresh. The bill came to about $100, but one thing I didn’t like was that an 18% service charge was automatically included.
It's definitely a goto place! We enjoyed everything. the food was amazing. Entertainment was great even though the restaurant didn't have electricity at the time due to the fires and was running on generators to light up the place with limited kitchen supply. everything was on key. All the food was cooked perfectly, Parking -4.5/5* Accessibility -4./5* Atmosphere - 4/5 Clean - 4/5* Ruestrooms - 4/5* Service - 5/5* Food visually -4/5* Food taste -5/5* Food freshness -5/5* Price - 4/5* Total score 4.3/5
Nice setting. Good overall vibe. - Just OK food. Feel quality has dropped and just did not reflect the price. - Coffee shop seemed far more popular than the food the early morning of last visit. - Nice amount of tables spread out, although a bit dirty with the grounds area needing some cleaning too. - 18% gratuity automatically added. Ok, but we order in line at a window, pick up our own food and drinks at another window, then buss our own tables afterwards? Worth a visit if you’re aware of what you may experience.
Food was good, but very pricey. Charming older place. It serves wine and beer, but no hard liquor
I visited yesterday and was excited to try the steak sandwich, but unfortunately, I found the experience underwhelming. At $23, I expected a dish with bold flavors and thoughtful preparation, but the sandwich was quite basic, and the steak lacked seasoning or any standout taste. That said, I really appreciated the atmosphere—it was warm, adventurous and inviting. However, for the price point, I believe the quality of the food should align more closely with the overall experience. As much as I enjoyed the ambiance, the food didn’t meet my expectations, and I don’t think I’d return. I hope this feedback can help improve the quality of food and future experiences for other diners!
Since covid, outdoor seating is now available. There are no servers. Meals are ordered at a walk up window. Don't be shocked when you realize youre being required to pay an 18% tip for walk up windows ordering. I used to love coming here to eat inside. This new walk up window forcing a huge extra charge on my check feels obnoxious. This last visit, when I saw the check, I just left. 18% tip for take food is just beyond rude and abusive.
First, you need to make reservations weeks in advance. It is small and always packed. No walk ins available from what I saw. They may have space available at the bar, but to get a both you have to plan ahead. Atmosphere: Unique atmosphere and story of how it came to be, good for a one time novelty visit. The exterior and interior are straight out of an old western (picture a saloon or general store) with wood everything, big tables, and rickety booths. They're uncomfortable to sit in and the lighting is terrible (wish they're turn off the obnoxious overhead lights and go for dimmer table lights instead). The old, eclectic, mismatched plates add a cozy, homey feel. Food: Appetizers: the appetizers were tasty and big enough to share easily. My family shared the mac n cheese, and chowder (I think). Everything came with a thick, baked cheese layer on top which I loved but if you don't like cheese, be careful. The menu is very small and limited so there were no appetizers for my husband (picky eater) and very little for me (gluten free). I had the mushrooms which were pretty good (because of the cheese layer) but I wish I'd saved the space for my entree. Try not to fill up before your main course because it will be gigantic and you'll need the space to get through it. Entrees: I had the beef stew which was gluten free and a staple of their menu. The veggies were cut small and the beef was tender and delicious. The bowl was gigantic but somehow I ate the entire thing (you'll be impressed if you order one and see the size). It was flavorful, comforting, and very filling. I highly recommend the stew. My family ordered a pot pie and sirloin steaks which were also huge and delicious according to them. The steaks were too marbled and undercooked for my taste since I only like well/medium well lean cuts and can't stand chewing fat, so I opted not to try any. Apparently everyone raves about the baked potatoes so I ordered one of those as well because I usually love them. I absolutely hated the loaded potato here though. They make their own sour cream using vinegar but it overpowered everything else and and ruined the flavor for me. Our server was shocked I wasn't into it and said maybe one person in a thousand doesn't like it. According to her, everyone else goes crazy for the mystery flavor (vinegar) which I honestly can't believe. It was horrible. Soupy and tangy and completely unlike any baked potato I have had or would want. I'd never order one again. They are huge though, and I guess if you like vinegar on everything you'll probably like these. Dessert: For dessert, my family tried the lava cake which was more chocolate soup than cake. When we mentioned the odd consistency of the lava cake, our server told us that we should've ordered the chocolate chip cookie instead but didn't say anything earlier because we didn't ask. They don't have ice cream because there is no freezer, which is a bummer. There were also no non-wheat / gluten free desserts. Service: our server was funny, sarcastic, personable, and pretty quick. When asked, she gave us good recommendations but I wish she'd taken the initiative to warn us about the polarizing quirks not mentioned on the menu (the vinegar in the baked potato and the soupy lava cake) because we would've changed our order and enjoyed our food more. Over all I'm glad we came and it was a fun experience but I don't feel the need to go back.
Obviously can't beat that Western style atmosphere, but gosh, $25 for a sandwich and some potatoes you need to pick up yourself at the counter, given to you in a to-go box, with compulsory tips added to the receipt.. (for what service exactly ?!), this is a joke.. except if you are a rich hippie I guess..
Service was great! Waiter great! But the food was not great & they’ve cut down their brunch menu to just a few items. Also, no liquor other than beer, wine, & champagne. Don’t remember that being the case in the past.
Very cute atmosphere and setting. My side salad was halfway filled WITH the big dressing container in the salad so for it not to be filled more is quite annoying especially after tipping and we don't even get a real server. Got water cups with no ice. Hopefully when they open up with better service it could be a better experience. Food was still good for being pricey takeout.
Cool themed restaurant. 22oz Rib eye was good but extremely overpriced price at $72 in a takeout container with a just baked potato and a side salad and a built in 18% gratuity for a meal that you order from a take out window! Apparently on Sundays there is no eating inside the restaurant so you have to sit outside. Homemade chocolate chip cookie was not good at all especially not for $9. The mixed berry crumble pie no berries all crumble for $20 +(see photo ). Honestly no need to ever go back. Great tourist trap or a meal on someone else’s tab… lol
Besides the exotic cars that show up here there isn't really anything that notable here. We got the breakfast burrito and the cinnamon rolls. The breakfast burrito was very tasty but its a hard sell at $20 plus an automatic 18% tip (for them just taking your order and calling it your number, they really should just make the prices higher). The cinnamon rolls were a complete let down they came with a cream cheese frosting that they don't even let you order without, the frosting if you like cream cheese isn't bad but it ruins food for me. And then all the pictures showed a large roll but this was three small rolls, so basically just a bunch of crust.
The Old Place has a really cool atmosphere — rustic, charming, and full of character. The service is excellent; the staff is super kind and welcoming, which really makes the experience. While the food is just average, the overall vibe and hospitality more than make up for it. It’s a great spot to hang out and have a good time with friends or family. Definitely worth a visit for the experience!
Went with my girlfriend and it was "Meh" at best. I ordered a medium rare steak and what I got was between medium well and well. The meat was under seasoned and difficult to chew. The baked potatoes was both undercooked and burnt. The outside was burnt, the inside was undercooked. The deserts were completely amazing and a bargain at twice the price. I've been to a few steak houses, and this while not expensive for a steak house is too expensive for the poor food. Great servers, cool place. Likely, I caught a bad break with the steak... Maybe they misheard me when I ordered. I should have complained at the time, but too many things were going on (we were a large group).
Really fun special place. Shout out to Cornell wine co.!! Food is delicious and service is alright- Anyways, that leads me to the automatic gratuity when ordering outside for their outside hours (which I refuse to go). If I get two beers… they will charge 18% gratuity. What!? Not to mention, this arrogance is ridiculous, and I’m only talking about the outside hours. You’re going to serve your wonderful dinner on paper plates….?!?!? And charge 18% on top of that?!? It’s wild. I do not understand how people can go for that?? It’s a wonderful open fire steak… and you’re fine eating on paper plates??!?! It’s so soggy. Also, 18% automatic tip for Take. Out. No table/bar service, that is straight up obnoxious. So be warned. I say go when it’s inside hours. Also, Covid isn’t a huge thing anymore please consider opening the inside. But maybe they got it figured out. Less cleaning (definitely no dishwashers cause of paper plates), less staff, more money. 🤷
It used to be my favorite place in Agoura. I came this weekend, for my surprise when I was ordering my food there is a sign "each bill will be charge 18% for gratuity" really?!! Tips are voluntary not mandatory, and this place has not table service, you have to pick your own food and tables are dirty! So bad this place is taking advantage when the food is not even worth it, only the atmosphere! A chicken sandiwch $34
For a place that's already ridiculously overpriced to charge a mandatory 18% gratuity when you have to order at the window and pick up your own food is so obscene that it should be illegal. A breakfast burrito and lemonade was going to cost $34. Those are LAX prices! What an absolute rip-off. These clowns should be ashamed of themselves.
Horrible overpriced food, annoying musicians who invite themselves to your table. The worst restaurant ever. A waste of time and money
Old Place – Agoura Hills I was excited to try this place, but the experience was a complete disappointment. We arrived on a Sunday around 1:30 PM, only to find the doors locked. They wouldn’t let anyone inside and said you could only eat outside. Fine — not ideal, but we went ahead and ordered anyway. I ordered a steak sandwich and was asked if I wanted potato wedges or a salad. I chose potato wedges. My wife ordered a sandwich with a salad. After paying, I was told the tip was already included — which made no sense. There was no table service, no refills, no interaction beyond them handing us a paper bag and sending us to sit under a tree. The bill? $95 for two sandwiches, potato wedges, one salad, two beers, and one Coke. An extremely high price, especially considering the “service” was nonexistent. If the food had been good, maybe it would’ve softened the blow — but it wasn’t. The salad was wilted to the point of falling apart. The steak sandwich was basically inedible, nothing but gristle. I couldn’t finish it. The potato wedges were just okay, nothing special at all. Needless to say, I will never eat here again. This place survives on reputation and foot traffic, not quality. Don’t waste your time. Don’t waste your money.
ATTN MANAGEMENT: This place is well-loved for its large portions and incredible ambiance but myself and my cohort cannot eat there because it is clear you use SEED OILS in your cooking. I know you make everything in-house but the quality of the ingredients paramount. We keep trying but we feel incredibly ill every time we eat here and we have determined it is because we are 100% seed oil free and eating at the OLD PLACE is ingesting SEED OILS that cause inflammation and stomach distress. I assume you use perhaps canola oil in your salad dressing, or to sear the meats? We beg of you, please make the switch. Use beef tallow, or ghee or olive oil or avocado. As locals we would love to enjoy this restaurant 2-3x per week but we are prevented from doing so by this simple fact. Regrettably we must advise all of our health-minded friends to avoid this place as well until the change is made. Please upgrade and we will be back! ELIMINATE SEED OILS NOW! Thank you 🙏🏻
