Avis sur Aria Super Market & Bakery Alameda
I think I've found my new cozy, me time spot! Such a great selection of E.European foods, coffees and even Mitchell's ice cream. The people who work here are always so sweet and welcoming too, even when I came in with my young, and not undisruptive kids. I wish I'd discovered this place sooner!
Wonderful to stumble upon this European market while walking to the Farmer's Market on Webster Street. It just moved across the street into the old Alameda Lighting space. The groceries are in the back of the store, almost like a secret annex behind the Mitchell's ice cream shop. The owner is from the former Yugoslavia (Bosnia), so many brands from the Balkan states. Canned sprats, German Appel zarte herring, Hungarian goulash, Turkish hamsi fried anchovies, Podravka pâté, Bosnian burek pie, Milka chocolate, Vegeta Mediterranean seasoning. As someone with an Asian background, I see so many things I wanted to buy! I will definitely make this a destination when I find myself in near Downtown Oakland and Alameda.
I don’t know how this slipped through my typing fingers to not have given them 5 stars yet ! I absolutely love this store! They have products from the Balkan! Macedonia, Serbia , Bosnia . The blend of all good flavors in traditions ! You can find from milk to the cooking supplies . And the people are always so nice and friendly ! It’s lovely experience every time I shop here! I will give them 10 stars if I could !
Came here on a Sunday morning because I saw a sign outside that reads "fresh smoothies". The Owners are super nice and bring good vibes. The smoothie has all fresh fruits, nothing frozen. they have a great looking ice cream parlor and then grocery store looks organized and very appealing. I'm coming in to try the ice cream next!
We drove one hour to get to this place, and I can tell you we can definitely drive more if we have to. Everything was amazing. Having cevapi and lepinja that was almost like being home.
I love this place. Friendly service. Helpful in explaining things. I have bought potato pierogi, country bread, and the Bosnian coffee. All were yummy. The selection of European products is amazing. Highly recommended.

Today 23FEB25, I had the pleasure of a first time expeience. Being stationed in Alameda in the 80s,I saw a lot of Asia plus Africa, Australia etc... but, nothing Europe. I met a wonderful lady named Jenny and she recommended items for me to try plus her coffee part, she made me something she liked, at my request. All this being new to me, I told her I trust her judgment and didn't want to ruin the experience with typical American ways and habits, she did NOT let me down. I don't get to Alameda that often now but, I have another reason to come. Thank you Jenny you are wonderful and everything read great. I recommend you am try this place even once. It's VERY affordable and if you open your mind to what you haven't tried before I bet you'll be pleasantly surprised. 👍💜💯
Can’t beat these prices, especially for the Bay Area. If you are Eastern European, you’re bound to find classic savory foods and sweets you’ll remember from back home! You can even order warm cevapi (a Balkan classic) in-house and they have frozen, ready to bake Balkan pitas!
Here they make very tasty coffee and always have a good selection of products.
Wow - such a hidden gem of an Eastern European market and beyond (Bosnia, Croatia, Slovenia, Czech Republic, Armenia). I had no idea until I walked by one day and saw someone drinking what I thought was Turkish coffee - it was Bosnian, like the owner. Lots of folks come for the amazing Mitchell’s ice cream. My husband and I are fans of wines/beers in the region, and the selection doesn’t disappoint.
I love this market, it's as if I've gotten on a plane and landed in Eastern Europe and I'm touring a grocery store with all kinds of exotic treats... With none of the hassle of actually traveling.
Great place! The owners and their tiny dog are very nice. If you need to make a gift basket for a foody friend this is the place to shop. They carry pelmeni, Tongue loaf, totally delicious marinated mushrooms, a lovely selection of teas and meats that I can't get anywhere else. I always find something new to try. I There are a number of unusual brandys and a selection of wine as well. European cookies, candies and pomegranate turkish delight so grab one of their shopping carts and try something you've never tasted before. We had coffee and dessert on a rainy day it was so pleasant. Next time I'm going to try their ice cream. So next time you are in Alameda try this little gem of a place.
Outstanding selection of foods from around europe. Excellent items from Germany and even some Russian ones. Wonderful owners. Nice place to sit down and have some food. What a gift to have this in Alameda.
Great place (i mainly go for ex-YU/balkan produce), bossman keeps all produce super fresh, and has high quality stuff. Alwayes friendly and ready to help!!! Definitely one of my goto spots and worth a drive from SF.

Walked in by chance. Went in for ice cream & coffee. Discovered they also offer a wide variety of pastries, prepared by/for them. Another discovery is the wide selection of imported snacks, both refrigerated items & shelf items. These are entertaining to browse even if not familiar with them; unlikely not to pickup one or several items just to try them. Another worthy discovery is that pricing is very practical & family oriented: both for eat-in & take-home food items. Glad, really glad.
Only place in Alameda where we can stock up on frozen pelmeni, our favorite cold weather instant dinner. We don’t have to go into Darkest Oakland any more (or out to Walnut Creek).

They have a dog that roams around freely. They sell groceries and serve ice cream and desserts. Enough said.

We just had the strangest experience. We were browsing in the store and our kids were very gently playing with some candies that had little hands on the end where you could play rock paper scissors. They were not being crazy with them at all. A woman scolded them and said to put them back, which they did immediately. Then a man came over and told us we were very rude and to get out of their store. I have absolutely no idea what we did. I genuinely asked him what we did wrong and he angrily waved us out of the store. 😳 We are a multicultural family, so not sure if race played into things. It was a very unnerving experience!
Owners are not friendly at all. Why have a business if you don't want people around? Actually seem like they were racist but that can be my opinion. Very rude and when confronted about the rude behavior they gave a very silly reason . Our child dropped a paper (transparent candy wrapper) and we did not see it and he decided that was the issue but instead of telling us acted very rudely. We've gone a few times but no more No point supporting a local business that doesn't want locals. It's 2025 for crying out loud! IT IS ALWAYS EMPTY FOR A REASON!!!!!
Im pretty sure the owners do not like people or maybe certain people. Just hovers over you like your about to do something.
Super rude shop owner. Asking about an allergy with potential cross contamination and she just laughs at us.
