I stopped here for lunch while the neighborhood and I’m so glad I did! The broth with my vegetarian spicy pho was flat out delicious. Lots of restaurants skimp on veggie broth but this one is deeply flavored - I finished the whole bowl. Add to that the vegan shrimp, ‘fish’ cake and ‘meat’ and you can tell someone put a lot of thought into all the details. I will definitely be back!
Love this little place on Clement. Their imperial roll and BBQ chicken rice noodle plate is filling and delicious. I love getting their iced coffee as well. Always served with a smile!
Thanh Thanh Cafe is such a gem in the Richmond. A lovely family owned business who make delicious and flavorful Vietnamese food. The daughter gave me excellent recommendations as well as being so sweet and friendly while her mom, also very hospitable, was cooking in the kitchen. I loved everything--Ginger Lemon Tea, Imperial Rolls, Chicken curry noodle soup, and a side Garlic Noodles to take home! I will definitely be back to try more dishes. Highly recommend for the great food and nice family! Thank you! ~Emi
Great spot for vegetarians & vegans. You have to try the shaking mushroom :)
The banh mi sandwich we had was SO DELICIOUS. ABSOLUTELY FIRE. I don’t usually leave reviews but I felt compelled to do so. Bread was light and crispy, pork was pepperry and juicy - and get it with the egg! Perfect lunch spot
So amazing!!! Awesome family owned spot! Food is delicious and they have very good vegan/vegetarian options. I actually love the lime-ade (it’s sweet which I like) and the pho broth is WOW very comforting. Seems like a lot of locals support them. Thank you so much Burke!
This spot is the definition of hospitality. There are lots of great Vietnamese and Asian options nearby and I'm so glad I stopped by. The restaurant has lots of signs saying they're vegan friendly, and the menu posted on the window confirms it. Not busy on a Friday lunch hour, but a couple of regulars were also dining and I quickly found out why they're so loved. The server gave the regular menu and the vegan one with photos by default. Got the vegan bun hue spicy noodle soup because the server said it was popular. I pointed to the vegan section, but didn't explicitly say I wanted the veg version. 🟡 The dish quickly came out, but it had brisket. I dug around the bowl to confirm, told the older gentleman, whom I assume is the owner. He quickly removed it and my used chopsticks, which was thoughtful. 🍜🟢 The vegan version came out and it was delish! There was fried tofu, konjac shrimp, konjac squid, seitan 'beef' slices, and plenty of veggies (broccoli, carrots, bok choy). The noodles were perfectly done so they had a great chew, but unfortunately not very splurpable as I had to chew carefully. The bok choy was overcooked, but all the other veggies were 💯. I can't believe they took the time to remove the ends from the bean sprouts 😍 That's next level attention. My first time having bun hue and I wish Chicago had as many veg Viet options. 💗🟢 The two owners and server stopped by to keep my glass of water filled, and say hello to all diners without being overbearing. Very attentive.
I always like coming here for their bbq chicken over rice with their imperial rolls. Super good plus their seafood noodle soup is also really good! Really good customer service, i’ve had to wait a while sometimes in the past for my order but i get to talk to the young guy with glasses who has always been there about Star Wars! If you’re craving Vietnamese Food, give this place a try, you’ll like it!
Had the spring roll and pork on rice noodles.. Greens and veggies were so fresh! The pork was delicately flavored and BBQ’d not cooked on a griddle or pan fried. The noodles were cooked to perfection, not overcooked and soggy or sitting somewhere in the kitchen and rubbery. The spring roll was crispy with a hint of I believe some sprinkle of pepper, not oily and greasy or rancid. Peanuts were nicely roasted peanuts, and fresh light green tiny mint leaves (2) used sparingly for just a nose to the dish. Thanh Thanh Cafe meaning clear pond or blue skies, aptly named, even I can see clearly. The food didn’t come fast like fast food diner, good things take a bit more time. Cám ơn rất nhiều. Second visit there had the beef noodle soup, broth was a little bit oversalted for my taste. So now I give them a 4-1/2 stars. On my third visits for later afternoon lunch, the rice noodle in dish was a bit mushy as if it had been a bit overcooked.
I had imperial rolls and lemongrass chicken over rice. The food was delicious and tasted like a home cooked meal. The staff is friendly and welcoming. A great little place to eat high quality, delicious food!
The lady that works the front desk here is so nice. I come here from time to time and the value to price ratio works. Unlike another spot close by where they charge extra for the herbs; your pho will come with the basil and bean sprouts. I’ve had their combination pho and banh mi, and both were very good portions. This afternoon I witnessed a couple of people come in and talk hey seem to be regulars—the lady remembered their order! Just goes to show you what kind of local gem this is
Best service I had so far in US. Great hospitality.
This family-owned restaurant in the Richmond is amazing!!! We sat by the window and had a beautiful view while having the best meal; my partner and I both ordered iced coffees and shared fresh shrimp rolls, beef garlic noodles & the chicken curry with rice. Everything was so beautifully presented and the flavor outstanding. We hope to be back soon for another round of memorable dishes. Thank you!!
This is by far the best Vietnamese restaurant in all of San Francisco. Fresh ingredients, great service, and good prices! I highly recommend the fresh spring rolls and deep fried imperial rolls as an appetizer, and the vermicelli is a delicious entree!
Great family-run restaurant with superb bahn mi. I make a point of stopping in here when i need food for a party
The owners were really nice to us. We were looking for vegan options and their menu were vegan friendly. They were also incredibly accommodating and reassured us of the contents of the vegan dish we ordered, detailing the ingredients used. Highly recommend.
Fantastic Vietnamese cafe! The soups were top tier - I was so impressed by the vegetarian pho options. The broth was so rich and flavourful, which is hard to find in a true vego soup. The owners were absolutely lovely as well. We were all chatting well past closing time, and loving it! If ever we’re on that side of the world again we will absolutely be stopping by for some great food and company!
This place did not dissapoint. Excellent food and excellent service. I ate my banh-mi waay too fast to take a photo of it.
Some of the best and authentic vietnamese food. I specially loved their Banh Mi
Had a lovely lunch at thanh thanh cafe - staff were so friendly and we loved all the vegetarian and vegan options - the vegan curry noodle soup was incredible (they made it less spicy for me) and the shaking mushroom was also delicious especially the sauce on the side - absolutely would recommend!
Good food, friendly service, seating outside, and decent prices. I asked for pork and shrimp vermicelli while they only had either one on the menu. They did it for me for the same price.
Henry was so wonderful and personable! We loved the waiters & honestly it’s so hard to find a place with good service with people who are actually down to earth and kind! The service was rapid, and the broth was yummy! The size was very big for a medium and the prices were definitely decent! Honestly, we’ll definitely come back just because of the amazing service from Henry and the others :) seems to be a local spot for those close by in the neighborhood!!!
Everything about this place is both unassuming and fantastic service. Food atmosphere highly recommended, the pork sandwich in particular!
Simple Vietnamese breakfast-lunch on Clement, noodle soups are specialty. BBQ Pork Spring Rolls, stuffed with fresh vegetables and chargrilled goodness. House Special Noodle Soup with ground pork, chicken and seafood, clean broth and a nice mix of proteins. Chicken (Ga) Pho, broth is deeply savory, but clean in taste. An extensive vegetarian/vegan selection. Spicy noodle soup with 5 different meat-alternatives. Vegan broth, decent but mildly flavored. Shaking Mushrooms, a flavor-forward new addition, yum!
They were very warmly welcomed, especially by the older Asian man; he was really good at caring for details. I ordered the pho; it was a large bowl for me. The noodles and soup were so good. There was a lot of meat in the bowl. After the meal, he gave me some fruit candy that tasted good. I loved everything about this restaurant and would like to thank you. 🙏🏼
Always a great experience here for some warm soupy pho! The service here is exceptional, even during the lunch rush they are so efficient and consistent. Solid menu, would come back to try other menu items!
Went there with family. Food was authentic and good. Enjoyed our dinner. Price was reasonable. Service was good. Would recommend this place for Viet food.
Our vegetarian friend ordered the tofu bahn mi devoured it in 3 mins and exclaimed that theirs was also wonderful while leaving no crumbs on his plate. I ordered the combo pork banh mi and it was top class. The bread was crisp and flaky on the outer crust and soft/delicate on the inside. The ingredients were generously arranged, but the sandwich didn’t fall apart. Please add egg! You won’t regret it :)
Food is authentic and good. The same level I usually get in my hometown in Dallas, Texas. Would recommend if you're craving for Vietnamese food. I ordered special beef noodle soup, crab noodle soup, and egg rolls.
This was our first time at Thanh Thanh Cafe. It was absolutely delicious. We ordered the chicken banh mi (half gone in the photo), bbq pork spring rolls, spicy rare steak pho, with coffee/Thai tea to drink. The flavor and attention to detail in the food was amazing, and the service was some of the best we've ever received. This will definitely be one of our new spots when visiting SF.

Updated review 6/19/2025: 2025 update. We came by to have some trued and tried good noodle soups. Thanh Thanh Cafe is always solid for that. They re-opened after a few weeks of being closed for summer vacation. Last time, it was pretty disappointing to see the closed sign and the outdoor chairs gone. It was nice to see they were opened today. We had the wonton noodles L $16.50, pho combo w/egg noodles M $15, pho combo L $17 and shrimp spring rolls $10.25. Everything tasted fine. Service remains excellent. Updated review 2/5/2022: We love coming to Thanh Thanh Cafe because they open early at 9:30am. That's cool because we tend to ride our bicycles early and we don't have to ride down to the lower avenues on Clement to get a hot bowl of noodles for breakfast. Indoor dining is finally re-opened! No more sitting out in the cold at their single sidewalk table. For breakfast, we had the beef noodles $12, sate pho $12 and imperial rolls $8. Everything tasted great. The staff is friendly and gave the children candy after our meals. The bonus is, there's a popcorn chicken place next door with boba/fruit drinks. 23rd avenue is closed off to car traffic and Thanh Thanh is right there. Their noodles are something we look forward to during our ride. I'm so full now, I need to take a nap. Updated review 10/2/2021: There was a crowd in front of Thanh Thanh Cafe around noon today. It took them about 15 minutes to make my combo sandwich. We were going to eat at their single table outside like usual but it was too crowded. We ended up biking to the Marina Greens and enjoyed our sandwich there. The bread was soft with a crispy crust. Plenty of meats and Vietnamese vegetables inside. Too bad we were too far from Thanh Thanh Cafe at that point, because I really would have loved to get another sandwich. Original review: Brunch at Thanh Thanh is always a treat. They used to open earlier at 9am. Now they are open at 9:30am. Indoor dining is still not available yet. The young waiter does not anticipate opening for indoor dining anytime soon. They did add one single table for outdoor dining. We had a Vietnamese coffee, spring rolls and pho. The only drawback is they served it in to-go containers even though we were dining there. At least this time we didn't have to resort to eating at a neighbor restaurant's parklet. I still love the food and service here.

It’s a family owned restaurant and they were so nice to us. We came here after supporting a friend running marathon and they were kind enough to chat & ask more about the runners and gave us their support. Not to mention that the food was also bomb!!!
After 6 years in SF I have finally found my favorite pho spot! The food is beautifully plated, clean and so so fresh! The service deserves 10 stars as well! The family here is so friendly, kind and attentive. Love this place.
I've now ordered from this establishment six times and can confidently say they make the BEST tofu sandwich in SF. Seasoned perfectly, even if you're not a fan of tofu you’ll love theirs. The Thai tea is delicious too. I
I highly recommend this restaurant. The folks running this business are friendly and helpful, and they serve delicious food with options for vegetarians. This is my go-to restaurant to fix my craving for Vietnamese food. I absolutely love their tomato noodle soup.

Food tastes great. Food is made to order, so it arrives hot. And I like that they open early (10AM), which is rare these days unless it's a diner-style restaurant. But portions are super small for the price. There was barely any meat on the plate, mostly rice.
Really good Vietnamese food, with a lot of vegan options. The vegan Bò Lúc Lác, made with mushroom, is excellent as appetizer.
My first-time visit. The space was medium and neatly arranged. Staffs were nice and helpful. Food comes up fast. The seasoning is strong, the cut meat is soft and not dry. Reasonable price not too cheap.

Family-run, cozy little place with super friendly staff and a clean, no-frills vibe that's perfect for solo meals, quick lunches, or casual hangs. Pho broth is clear, deeply flavorful with that signature anise-forward kick that's not overpowering, served piping hot, decent portions, and tender rare beef in the pho tai that melts in your mouth. House special noodle soup and chicken noodle options get tons of love too. My standing order is the Bun Rieu, which is a tomato-based broth loaded with crab paste, fluffy pork/crab chunks, fresh veggies, and that perfect tangy-spicy umami loaded balance. Their Banh mi is generously stuffed, fresh, has earned a spot as my go to banh mi on Clement street. I can vouch for the vegan shaken mushroom appetizer which is a crispy, garlicky, innovative twist on shaken beef, imperial rolls/chả giò, a perfect crispy appetizer, wrap 'em with lettuce and noodles for the full experience. Vegan items are clearly labeled and solid (tofu vermicelli, veg curry noodle soup). Portions are generous, prices stay reasonable—full pho or combo under $20 easy. It can get busy during peak lunch/dinner on Clement (waits possible, but turns over quick), and street parking is the usual hunt—circle or use nearby lots. But none of that dims how consistently excellent it is. Authentic, flavorful, comforting Vietnamese that punches above its weight.

Very pleasant place. Good soup. Fair price.
Broth was good, Meat and noddles not very good. Was expecting more in the quality of ingredients. I would prefer to spend more money and get something higher quality.
Took 40 minutes to get our food when the place was empty (there was only 1 other table eating and they had their food already). We ordered congee and a cold vermicelli tofu dish, which should not have taken that long to make. The person told us that it would take 10-15 minutes for takeout and then kept telling us it was almost ready - if she had been honest, we would have gone for a walk or gotten food at another place. I cant imagine what the wait would be if there were actually people dining there.
Do not go here. I ordered an 11 with extra tripe and other goods to go in my soup I was charged and not giving my extras and they claim I didn't ask when there was a couple of us making sure she got the order right. The flavor is bland and everything was just nasty 🤢 don't waste your money.
