Avis sur Banh Mi & Che Cali Alhambra
Flavor was excellent. Portions were large. Bun vermicelli with pork, shrimp, and vegetable egg rolls. Delicious. Atmosphere was Functional. Online info says take out only but I ate in as well as several others. Prices were very reasonable.
This place is exactly what you might expect. Decent parking. Inexpensive but tasty food. Fast service. I love it! Spring rolls are my favorite, but the Bahn mi is a solid option as well.
This place seems to have a lot of potential. The vegetarian Banh mi was good but a little dry, and it didn’t have pickled daikon, or cilantro. Only a little bit of pickled carrots and jalapeños. Is that the norm? Value is amazing, prices are low. Super local eatery. Random outside dining. Buy 2 get 1 free sandwich. $2.00 passion fruit drink. A whole fridge full of vegetarian items! LOVE it!
From the looks of it. It's really cheap prices and good deals. Buy one get one free. So if it looks expensive it's really not. Just a way to get you to buy 2. Other items as low as 6 bucks for a simple quick meal. Bomb drinks with boba if you'd like. Seems like they have many options. Definitely gotta come back.
Been going here since 2017. I had moved 2 hours away 2 years ago and hadn't been here in a while but man it's still good if not better. I love this restaurant so much I hope they never go out of business
Their egg rolls are amazing forget about Panda Express and their fried rice is delicious, my daughter loves their pho, I in particular don't like any kind of Asian soup so no matter how good it taste I always dislike it. My daughter is the one who introduced me to this place because her friend took her and thanks to her I don't stop ordering from there.
Just wow. Been going here for over 10 years! They have such affordable meals that satisfy my hunger and body’s need for nutrients! Healthy, filling, affordable food! They have had their buy one get one free boba for over 10 years and still going! They’re open everyday starting 6am… you can’t beat that mind of service! Their pho is so delicious and satisfying! Their noodles… cooked to perfection.. how can banh pho (rice noodle) be cooked so soft yet so firm? Their basil and bean sprout are very fresh and proportionate. Their boba is so chewy but soft, their milk and thai teas are also creamy and delicious! Ate with a friend and the total was $30 for 2 people! In this economy, Banh Mi Che Cali are doing their very best to satisfy their customers! Love this place and will always be thinking of coming back! (Clean up after yourself and leave a tip!)
Good food for a good price. Really hard to screw up banh mi, but it's pretty good. They also have good deals on some other non-Vietnamese drinks. Highly recommend stopping by and giving this place a try.
Love this place! Buy one get one free on their boba teas. They have so many specials. Not the fastest place for lunch but their food is worth it. I recommend the sandwiches. Parking lot is small might have to park on the street.
Love this little spot we found! The chicken pho is so delicious and they have Jamaica tea which goes so good with all the food there. The staff is super friendly and it's a little great place to eat in or to take out
My best friend and I come here at least once a week. Good prices and amazing food. The employees are also very friendly as well. Definitely the place to go for some soup when youre sick too!
If you want cheap, but super delicious, Vietnamese food then Bánh Mì & Chè Cali is your place. They have rice dishes with different types of meat. They Have a couple different types of Pho. And of course they have their Bánh Mì sandwiches, which are the best! They make their own taro bread so it is soft on the inside and crunchy on the outside, but not so hard and crunchy that it tears your mouth apart like other places. They also have so much more to offer from baked good, drinks (like boba), deserts, and more. I will take long trips just to go here and you can't beat getting tons of great cheap sandwiches and then taking them on trips to the park or Disney or wherever! If you haven't been here, you are missing something great!
The food is amazing!! It's also highly affordable, and their buy 2 get 1 free banh mi deal is hard to beat! I suggest their shrimp and BBQ pork rolls if coming here for the first time.
One of the best, if not "THE ONLY" banh mi I would recommend to anyone that asks me where I would eat pho food. The combination vermicelli bowl is like the perfect blend of flavors and 🍖. Don't forget they also have a bogo on the boba tea.
I’ve been coming to this specific location for about 8 years from Los Angeles and it’s worth the drive. I usually get banh mis and spring rolls, both are soooo delicious. And it’s okay affordable. I definitely recommend this location for those that are looking for great place to eat.
This place is awesome. Cheap and affordable, delicious food. $6 bahn mi… In 2024!!! If that’s not your thing, they also sell pho, rice plates and stuff. Milk tea Boba is buy one get one free :)
Delicious foods at a very reasonable price. Although size or portion of meals have decreased the price have increased a bit but it is still considerable cheap compared to other similar restaurants. Employees are more friendly than before. The restroom have been improved but need to be cleaned more often. There are m a NY pre-oacked meals for take out. I would recommend this place to families and friends.
OH. MY. GOODNESS. I just found this place about 5 min from where I live. I haven’t tried anything yet but this all cost $15.70 before tax. 3 x Banh Mi 2 x Tea drinks 1 x Chicken w/rice Even if the food is just average (I’ll let you know the next time I come and try it), the price alone is worth the 5 stars. Be prepared to encounter some thick Vietnamese accents when communicating but why would you want to go to a place where you didn’t? The gentleman at the register was so kind. Definitely coming again!
This is the best casual, sit-down restaurant you and your family will ever go to: affordable, yummy, and comes out fast! Their menu is wide and varied as well so everyone will find something to like. For the vegetarians and pescatarians out there, there are some options on the menu (and a few others, if you're not a strict vegetarian and allow meat broth). These options include pho, fried rice, curry, and lots of desserts! My favorite dessert is the fresh yogurt for $2. Finally, the best thing about the restaurant is the amount of deals you'll find: buy one get one free for boba, buy five get one free for yogurt, etc., etc. So if you're looking to try some Vietnamese comfort food and you're in Alhambra, Montebello, or Rosemead, you should definitely check out one of their locations.
Probably one of the best deals in SGV if you know what you're getting. Yeah, the lines can definitely be kind of crazy, and it's always a grab bag for what's available when you get to the counter, but you can rest assured a group of four can feed and be stuffed for $30 and have enough food for another full meal!
Great Place. Ressonable Prices.Small parking lot with One Handicap space. The employees speak English. Their sandwiches(Baguettes$ 4.25) are Buy 2 get 1 Free,Except the Terriyaki ones. Boba Milk Tea's Buy One ( $3.95) get One Free.the Prepackaged meals ($4.50) are good and vary every day..The Egg Rolls($.85) Have lots of minced Pork, its Not a Spring Roll that is mostly vegetables...
The secret is the bread. Crunchy, doesn't get soggy. It holds its form and tastes BOMB. A single bahn mi won't fill you, but get a side. It's all affordable!
Bbq on a baguette. Classic sandwich. Not overstuffed, but tasty...got tip -- just check the jalapeños inside, those were generous. I loved the deals here. 15 percent off. Or the BOGO7 on boba and tea drinks. Green tea, very fragrant. Probably a jasmine mix in that green tea, it was delicious....and sweet. I'll be back to try the pho.
The buy 2 get pne free banh mi deal is amazing! Love this place! So friendly!
Love their banh mi! The bread is so fresh, just perfect, and their pickled carrots and daikon and peppers and cilantro is nice and crunchy and tangy - going perfectly with their BBQ chicken and BBQ pork!
So good and affordable :) my favorite is the ham meatloaf… it’s great when they put a little extra pickled vegetable
Banh Mi & Che Cali has the affordable prices I’ve ever seen since forever go if you buy 2 banh mi you’ll get one free !!! And for the boba buy one get one free!! You can take your significant other for brunch there!! It does get packed but it’s worth it, and they even prepackaged meals for you to eat there or to go!! High recommend the pho or bbq chicken banh mi :) !!
I ordered 3 banh mi's from this place, per the Buy 2, Get 1 Free deal. The two BBQ pork banh mi's were superior to the BBQ beef one, which featured slightly stringy and perhaps too much (?) flavoring. The pork was tender and on point! Great deal with the 20% off everything promotion right now, and my total came out to be about 12 bucks. Credit card accepted on tabs above $10, which was also appreciated. I would definitely come by for banh mi's in the future!
I love their Banh Mi! My favorite is #5 and #10! Great Banh Mi and Thai Tea deals! They even have soup and entree items! This place is packed even at night! Parking lot gets full quick so just find street parking.
This is my go-to hang out place. They have really good banh mi sandwiches. They also have great noodles and rice dishes along with some of the best Vietnamese food here, like bun bo hue, banh cuon, banh uot. You can buy them to go or eat there as they made them for you then and there anyway. Don’t forget about the che dessert. If you speak Vietnamese, you can even customize what you order. They speak English but not enough to understand if you customize; hence, better if you speak their language.
I tried beef pho and bun bo hue. They were both very hearty and delicious. I thought this restaurant is specialized only in banh mi, but I was wrong. Fyi, I arrived an hour before closing and I couldn’t order sandwiches.
I first came here because I wanted Banh Mi. Since then I've tried many things on their menu, although I tend to go back to a select few items. The place here is not the largest, and parking is not the easiest. However! Their prices are hard to beat. There's specials on Banh Mi (buy 2 get 1 free) and drinks (buy 1 get 1 free). I've also tried their Pho, which is quickly served, although it can be difficult to flag down a waiter at times. The cashiers are sometimes impatient, although they have never made a mistake with my orders. I recommend buying the baguettes ($1!) in the mornings, when they are freshly baked.
I've been coming here for years. Theor "buy 2 get 1 free" sandwich deal always has me coming back. It's such a great deal. The restaurant itself needs a little updating but as far as food goes they do not disappoint.
Food is pretty good for its price. I can't say the same for their boba though, those are low-key kinda trashy. I would've given this place a 5 stars, but I definitely realized the value of their food has slowly gone downhill over the recent years. I remember a few years back its pho was like around $5 now its like closer to $10+, with lesser amounts of food as well.
The banh mi is ok. You can get one free for the price of 2.
Vietnamese food to go, cheap and affordable. Sometimes the lines get long.
Don't think four stars is a bad thing! This place is reasonably priced, it has several meals to go options, and serves really solid, simple Asian food. They have a buy one get one free drink special that has been there for years and every day there is a different featured dish. There's also a buy three get a fourth one free banh mi daily special. The food is consistent and I've eaten here for years. If you want good food at a reasonable price, this spot gets the job done!
This is a chain restaurant. The sandwiches are not bad. The selections on the menu is not extensive but the dishes that I have tried are all doable. Order one Bubble tea and you get another one free. The prices are very reasonable. I would choose this restaurant over other fast food joints anytime.
I come here often, this place is good and the prices are good too, but the service is not great, they made a big deal on my to go order because i threw away my receipt and they wanred to confirm it was me
Typical Vietnamese restaurant with Pho and ban mi's. I got the bbq pork and shrimp with vermicelli and my dad got the beef noodle soup. The soup was a little too salty for both our liking, but the vermicelli was pretty bomb. Same price for both so I'd rather get the vermicelli for what it's worth.
I re visited this restaurant after 5 years. I ordered 3 of their sandwiches, and sadly, one of them had old meat that was gummy already. From what I remember, the bread and relish tasted better, and the sandwiches had more sauce and flavor. At buy 2 get one free, it's a great deal at 6 bucks each. The service was good! I recommend trying this place out!
Good food, broth is brothing but needs more of those lil star seasoning. Only thing to work on… maybe hygiene All your workers using the restroom go to the bathroom with their apron…
This is a Vietnamese sandwich, pho and Chinese food outlet with a good selection of teas and boba drinks. Banh mi sandwich was good except their baguette were not as crispy and fluffy as others. Yangzhou fried rice was very good. I think you get a good choice of Vietnamese dishes and Asian drinks at a decent affordable prices and good portions. Parking is plenty in the rear of the shop. They offer order 2 get 1 free deal for Banh mi.
Great spot for breakfast – they are open earlier then the nearby bahn mi places! Got the combo and 5 eggrolls the egg rolls were very good and so was the bahn mi except the day I visited they didn’t add cilantro. Or is this typical of this place? Nonetheless, I am a fan of cilantro so I was a bit bummed my sando didn’t come with it. The service was fast and friendly ambiance that of an asian café and it was very clean inside for being open at 7am they have a ton of workers! Smell of fresh baguettes when you walk in! I should’ve read the sign bogo on milk tea! Will come back for that next time
I was craving banh mi and decided to drop by. They had the buy 2 get 1 free deal on the banh mi so I ended up getting 3. Each one costs $7. I also got the wonton noodle soup for $6.50 and the combo house special pho for $12.50. Bun rieu was delish for $9. They had a 15% off promo going on, which was great. They also had a bogo boba deal going on. You can pay with a credit card if you spend at least $10 for no charge. However, if you use a discovery or Amex card, they charge you a $1.50 fee. I got in line, paid, waited a bit, and got my order. They use baguette bread and don't use as much meat like in the past; it's not as fulfilling when you eat 1. At least this location uses pate, unlike the other location I went to a few weeks ago. Out the door it cost $17 something. They have a small parking lot, but it gets packed. People come and go quick though.
Good foods as always not that many choices for dessert but to there are still boba to teas. Workers are tired you can see that. Vietnamese management stile. It means one work hard the others sitting there or doing nothing but don't care about customers waiting in long line but don't blame the cashier he or she is the one working hard
Good comfort food. Cheap prices. I guess the bahn mi specials are done. Had an interesting experience in the line last visit. A young bum was staking out the food and had a light altercation with a customer in line. The bum looked familiar with the setup, touched a bunch of stuff, and snuck some food under his shirt. He then stole some coins from the shrine before the staff yelled at him to leave. As we drove away I saw him walking down the street, eating the stolen food.
I would give it a 5 star but over the years the restaurant feels more and more disgusting feels sticky as soon as you walk in and some of the cashiers are rude!!!! I know one of them doesnt like my girlfriend and myself we’ve been coming here for 5 years and every time she sees us she tells us they’re doing “to go only” the restaurant is not busy and there are plenty of tables but she always does this to us. Great food though.
This banh mi & Che Cali isn’t the best location. It’s dirty and old looking inside. We got the baguette banh mi, buy 2 get 1 free. Tasted good but the sandwiches seem to barely have any meat in them so it was almost like eating just bread. A disappointment since I’ve been going to this restaurant since the 90s in little Saigon in Westminster.
One of the most tasty traditional Vietnamese sandwich. I paid lil extra for extra pate n veggies... which I don't mind, and they gave me plenty! The cold cuts were tasty and the pate had a great flavor. The bread had a light crunch with a soft inside. The veggies were fresh n crunchy. Great value too. BUT..... go in expecting a slow paced service. Make sure of ur order cuz they missed my coffee. Also ask them to mark the different sandwiches cuz they didn't. You would think that's common sense, but apparently not. If ur looking to have a great sandwich but don't care for time and service... must enjoy a sandwich n Vietnamese iced coffee!
Very good bun mi, I love their food, but. The service is the worst here. They have many employees, but one cashier and the cashier is so slow. There is always line here but it takes so long to just to order the food. Manager needs to manage this place. The ladies that prepare food always argue.
Disorganized, could be cleaner. Also, for since reason they wrapped our egg rolls in plastic and therefore made them not crispy. Odd choice. Decent Banh Mi and iced coffee.
Banh mi sandwiches were alright. Buy 2 get 1 free. $7 each. Meat portion is small and there was little to no pate. Sandwiches also needed more pickled veggies. Pate Chaud is $2 for one. Meat was flavorful and was warm. But the pastry was a little dense. Not as flaky as it could've been. Sesame seed ball was large but not very crispy on the outside with minimal sesame seed flavor. I think a smaller ball would've made a better ratio of mung bean filling to chewy exterior. Restaurant can get crowded with people ordering to go. Staff speaks limited English in helping you when you try to dine in. You'll have a better experience if you can speak Vietnamese of Cantonese.
This Banh Mi Che Cali is located on Valley Blvd. and 7th Street in Alhambra. We've been there before to get to go sometimes because it was casual and cheap, like Vietnamese fast food. The price is low (they even have 13% off right now), but don't expect much in terms of quality. It looks brighter and cleaner after the renovation, but it's still unorganized, busy, and crowded. They always have a discount on Banh Mi (short baguette), such as buy 2 get 1 free, but sometimes we order their pre-packaged steamed vermicelli, desserts, etc. I didn't like their Bánh cuốn (Vietnamese steamed rice rolls) because they didn't have much filling inside, such as pork or mushrooms, and the rice rolls were not smooth enough. I ordered their Bún riêu (Vietnamese rice noodle soup, with soup flavored with tomatoes, shrimp paste, fish sauce, meatballs, and a meat broth), and it was mediocre. The taste was lacking in flavor, and the cabbage was bitter. Their banh mi tasted okay compared to other food. When I got my receipt, it didn't show my order number at the bottom of the receipt, but other customers had the order number on their receipts. I had to ask the cashier, and she showed me there's a tiny number on the receipt for my order. Many people waited for their orders for a while, and there's always a long queue there. Overall, it was a mediocre place for casual Vietnamese food, but it was very economical.
They swipe the table clean and let all the small leftovers drop to the floor. They expect the customers to squish little food pieces and vegetables with the customers shoes.
I wanted to like this place. Maybe I hit it on the wrong day? The BBQ pork sandwich was just not that good. The bread seemed day-old and the pork want that good. I also got the chicken sandwich - which suffered from the same issues. The line was long and the wait was too. So it could be that I picked the wrong menu items. I will conceed that the egg rolls were very good.
This was one of my go-to's for a very long time but unfortunately, today did leave a very bad taste in my mouth. I simply asked for a cup of water for me and my friends, which apparently caused some conversation and debate between the servers. Not long after, we got our waters but in boba cups, sealed and in a carrier and were given a check for the water. After that, we asked about it and were told it 75 cents now, even though we saw someone else receive a Styrofoam cup of water. She told us he paid too but then why is the man paying for the water in a smaller container that we were paying the similar price for? While it is in the restaurant's right to provide any service but in this instance, this felt like targeted discrimination because every other Asian customer got the Styrofoam waters without issue besides us. Look, I'm a person of color and by family has also run a restaurant. But the treatment my friends and I received this time around felt like grounds enough for me to say something, unfortunately. It was an unfortunate situation and I really wish it didn't happen.
This place has very poor service! Their food may be decent, but the service is slow and the maintenance of the restrooms is very low from no toilet paper to slippery wet floors. If they can’t keep their wash rooms sanitary imagine what goes on in the kitchen. Keep that in mind the next time you decide to stop by for some lunch.
I traveled to LA and used uber eat to ordered my food. On the Uber app, the menu was very confused. They listed several categories that requires customer to selected. For example, You need to select 4 different types noodles for your soup. Example: pho noodle, egg noodles, large vermicelli Noodle, or large Flat noodle. Then No spicy, medium spicy, or Very spicy. Then choose your own Veggies, however, for the veggies there is $.75 extra fee for bean sprout, onions , cola trời , Basil, cilantro. It’s supper confusing because I never see any Vietnamese restaurants requisite choose tbe noodles for the Beef Stew Soup, Phở, and Spicy Beef Noodle Soup (bun Bo hue) . They never asked customer to pick the vegetable for the special soup, which they should know what type of noodle supposed to go with what special noodle soup. They would never ask what type of vegetable to pick to eat with that special type of soup. Because of the way they expected me to pick on their menu made me think they don’t provide bean sprout and I have to pick a type of noodle for each type of soup, so I paid more to get bean sprout to eat with the Bavitemsmse e eerof the bean sprout for my soups, and picked my own noodle. At the time my food arrived, there was a bag of vegetable and beans sprout was packed along with each order of soup. No lemon to eat the beef stew soup . No utensils so how could we eat our soup? The chicken wing came with a very very tiny cup of ranch. The beef stew soup came with a lot of white radish and carrot. Very little beef and the soup tasted bad. It’s not even close to the traditional Vietnamese beef stew. The Spicy Beef Noodle soup doesn’t smell and tasty like Bun Bo Hue and it’s not very spicy as requested. I’m a person who eat less salt and very less potassium but I still need to put a little Salt into the soup to make it taste a bit better. No tasted of shrimp sauce ingredient and cooked lemon grass inside the soup. Pho soup doesn’t smell like the tradition Pho broth. In concludes: its not worth it to buy the food here. No utensil to eat food if you are a traveler, not tastty, paid extra money to buy extra bean sprout for nothing. .
Careful of the pre-prepared food, I ended up getting food poisoning- the worst I’ve experienced in decades. I would not recommend going here unless you’re really in a pinch, the quality of the food is low but at least the price matches. It’s just a question of whether the risk is worth it or not. Lots of people here always, but I would not go out of my way to try this place.
Very rude and unprofessional towards non Asian customers. Food is ok prices ok....cashier attendants not customer friendly . Never going back because of cashiers.
Waited ages for the sandwich despite being not that busy. Very poor quality bread, dry bbq pork. The sandwich was as a dry as the desert, no mayo no nothing. And it wasn't even warm. Worst banh mi I've ever had, should have went across the street but I wanted to eat in rather take away. They just don't care. Look at the photo Jason posted below that's what I got too.
This place changed a lot compare with 2-3 years ago. Sticky rice doesn't have any natural flavor (panda leaves, coconut...) of it, all add by colors. Bun Rieu, Bun Bo... they serve customer from the day before. The workers are very mean and racist! Never come back again!!!!
The restaurant advertised a 15% discount but when i bought it a female vietnamese employee didn't tell me that and kept the price the same and said "over 5 dollars there is a discount" and didn't give me a receipt.
A big fan of pho n there soup. I BEEN GOING HERE FOR ALMOST SEVEN YEARS! but a good experience here last night went to HELL!! I order two chicken pho to go, when I got home in Santa Monica, OMG the greasiest soup u can imagine, this was oil chicken soup, and the fat on the chicken it made KFC look good, horrible horrible, and when I called them to tell them what happened they banged my calls, I do not recommend anyone taking food to go unless you check, we where in desperate need of a good chicken soup but they killed our experience and we will treat them like they need to b treated with there stupid rude attitude, really!!
The guy at the cashier not nice at all. He knew im speaking Vietnamese but he trying to speaking back English, his co worker said let speak Vietnamese and he speak some Vietnamese fluencies. After that he still speak english while iam trying to buy some more food .after that he charged me more than what i buy and He have to recharge again and still his manners and personality not nice at all. Iam not recommended to have the people don’t know how to work and services at the restaurant.
Came off f of a 13 hour shift having set up a pick up at 8pm that day for 2 trays of spring rolls. Got off shift 30 minutes early than pick up and attempted to call 3x, no one picks up the phone. Came in and they report that they haven't finished making it. Waited 45 minutes for them to make it. Did not want to be there, had a 40 minute drive home. If you cannot make it at the appointed time, please do not set up pick up time over phone. Just don't do it. If you wanted payment up front, was more than willing to give credit card number over the phone.
I recently starting coming here 2 times a week. The price point is great and food is decent. On Friday I got food poisoning. The food made me sick and for 2 days I can’t eat or drink anything without using the restroom. Going to hospital today. Highly do not recommend - something wrong with there kitchen
I’ve been waiting for half an hour to pick up the order, but no one has responded.
Attention everyone ‼️ Cashiers may overcharge you. Some food items on the receipt don't have a detailed breakdown of the cost, only a total price. I bought four boxes of coupons, but the receipt didn't show the price per box. While waiting to pick up my food, I asked a server how much a box of coupons cost. No one told me! It's ridiculous! I asked another server, but they were evasive and gave vague answers, which seemed suspicious! The servers all pretended to be busy, saying their English wasn't good, and finally told me I had to check with the cashier. I asked the cashier, and she told me it cost 8 dollars per box, with three coupons in each box. However, I've always only bought boxes with two coupons; I've never seen three coupons in a box. I told her I overpaid, as the price for two coupons is different from three. She refunded me, but I felt very uncomfortable and won't go there again. I believe many people will fall for this scam. Everyone should verify the price of what they buy before purchasing.
The workers are rude. No customer service at all. I thought after reopening they would change. I ordered 2 baguettes and other items. The cashier took my money and didn't say anything. When my order arrived there was no baguettes. I tried to get an employee to ask where my baguettes were. They all ignored me. Finally they gave me a couple of rolls instead of baguettes. Ill never go there again. The reason I went there today was because New Hoa Thai on Garvey was closed till tomorrow.
Called the restaurant multiple times and phone was not answered. I too drove to restaurants and arrived by 840 and restaurant was closed. Why say 9pm if they won't be open till that time. Hours should be change to 830. That's time and gas. So much for wanting a delicious warm meal.
