Super long wait but worth it because you can check in online and wait elsewhere. Chicken rendang/curry in nasi lemak was moist and super flavorful. Very impressive! Dry Wonton noodle soup was good. A bit too much noodle to wonton ratio, but all was very delicious. Satisfying soup and wonton 👍 Our waiter could’ve been friendlier 😏
I would wait an hour and a half for this place. It is my favorite restaurant in LA!!! This place is well-deservingly packed, even at 5pm. The first time my dad and I went, we just followed our noses and eyes to figure out what to order. The laksa is so fragrant and the shrimp is so fresh — just don’t let it sit. The roti literally burned my fingers — that’s how hot and freshly prepared it was. The curry is on the slightly more sour end (it tastes like it has tomatoes?) and the beef rendang is so flavorful — I would pick this instead of the chicken curry to pair with the roti. The char kway teow is perfectly sweet and salty while not being too oily. The fried chicken wings were spectacularly juicy and weren’t overseasoned. The pineapple buns are also good for sharing between 4 people. I’d stick to that over the kaya toast personally because the flavor didn’t shine through as much, but that is also pretty good. Even the steamed yu choy was amazing, with the shallot oil flavor balancing super well with the whole veggie. The only miss of this place out of all of the dishes I’ve tried would probably be the wanton mee but the soup was also delicious. It felt a little too oily for me and I also just wasn’t a fan of the noodle texture and thinness. A group of 4 is the perfect spot for the number of dishes you can eat and the time you spend waiting! There’s a free underground parking garage, and you can join the Yelp waitlist ahead on the app.
We absolutely loved our visit to Ipoh Kopitiam!Everything was so delicious and packed with that authentic Malaysian flavor we’ve been craving. The nasi hainam was incredibly tender and fragrant, the dry wanton mee was perfectly seasoned, and the sambal had the right amount of kick. Even the Milo drink tasted just like home! We’re already missing Ipoh’s food, and of course we’ll definitely be back. Highly recommended for anyone looking for real, comforting Malaysian flavors! 🍜🇲🇾✨
The best and most authentic Malaysian food I ever had in the United States. Ipoh kopitiam is a famous chain in Malaysia. I am so happy when I found out they opened a store in Alhambra. We had the chicken rice, kway teow noodles and roti canai. All amazing. The place is always crowded and service is quick. There was a waitlist but it went by super quick.
Finally made it to Ipoh Kappitiam, and it absolutely hit the spot. Everything tasted warm, familiar, and full of that cozy Southeast Asian comfort. i ordered Hainan Chicken Rice The chicken was tender and silky, just the way it should be. The rice was fragrant and perfectly oily, and the trio of sauces—ginger, chili, and dark soy—tied everything together. Simple but so satisfying.
One cozy place for breakfast with delicious meals they serve is Ipoh Kopitiam. They got breakfast menu with affordable price until 10.45am. The price start $12.95++ for menu A and $13.95++ for menu B. I attached the menu which you can choose. First you choose the main course such as nasi lemak or noodle soup which is both are super recommended, the you choose the topping you want which is i love the spam, then the bread (toast) which is i recommended is the toast with Kaya and butter. This included choice of drinks which you can get freeflow, such as hot coffee, hot milk tea, hot chinese tea or hot lemon tea for cold (ice) got extra charge for $ 1.50. No wonder they got michelin bib gourmand since 2022! Super duper recommended.
My go-to spot for authentic Hainan chicken rice and white coffee! This restaurant never fails to deliver - the chicken is always tender, flavorful, and perfectly poached. The rice is fragrant and infused with just the right amount of chicken stock. And the white coffee? Divine! Smooth, creamy, and not too sweet. It's the perfect complement to their delicious Hainan chicken. The service is always friendly, and the atmosphere is cozy and welcoming. If you're a fan of Hainan chicken or great coffee, this spot is a must-visit!
We ordered the Singapore Curry Laksa, Rendang Curry Beef, Kaya Toast, and White Coffee. Everything was absolutely delicious especially the Rendang Curry Beef, which was insanely good. I’ve been to Singapore about twelve times, and the Laksa here tasted just like what I had there. The interior also really reminded me of cafes in Singapore and Malaysia — cozy, casual, and authentic. Definitely worth visiting if you miss Southeast Asian flavors.
Delicious food! Seems like there's a long line during the day but we ate around 8pm with little to no line. The Hainan chicken is our favorite! Meat is super tender and soft and the sauces provided are delicious. We also loved the Kaya toast and butter. Can't beat the classics! Parking is available underground behind the building.
Amazing Malaysian/Singaporean food! Came here for the breakfast sets. Price is so reasonable! A set comes with entree + hot drink + side. Tried the curry noodles, kaya butter toast, and hot milk tea. Everything was on point and authentic! Also impeccable service, they offered us refills for the milk tea. You have to come here for breakfast!
We came here to sign up the queue and found out that you could just do it by yelp’s app for faster seating. Mostly seating are for two or four. There seems a section that could accommodate larger party like 5 or 6 people. A lot of families came too. We already came couple times before. It actually has been our favorite place for laksa noodle soup. I like its flavorful soup and very bouncy noodle texture. Also included a lot of fried tofu boiled egg shrimp and fish balls. We had already tried stew beef with bread so this time we tried fried beef with wide rice noodles also sweet buns with butter. Both were great. For drinks you could customize the sugar levels. Our favorite dish is fried chicken wings in peppercorn and salt flavors. Also waiters were always friendly and courteous. The only things was it could be a bit of noisy since everyone was talking loudly and sometimes seating was very close.
Authentic Malaysian/Singaporean breakfast spot with great combo prices (12-15 bucks for a set with an entree, a drink - all kinds of kopi, and complementary pastry of choice — ranging from Kaya toast, pandan cake, to pineapple buns). We ordered three sets, giving us a chance to try instant noodles with curry pork skin, nasi lemak with curry fish balls and Malaysian sticky rice with chicken. All the dishes hit the spot and are reminiscent of what you would get in the region locally. Definitely need to come back to try the lunch, which seems to be popular!
Came to Ipoh Kopitiam in Alhambra last Friday with my parents and it turned out to be such a comforting meal. We ordered the Laksa curry, Singaporean style Hainanese chicken rice, and the Char Kway Teow. All three dishes were solid, but the one that really stood out was the Hainanese chicken rice. The chicken was tender and juicy, and the rice was packed with flavor on its own. Once you add the sauces, everything just comes together perfectly. That was easily the most memorable dish of the night. Our second favorite was the Char Kway Teow. The flat noodles had great texture with a nice smoky wok flavor. It was savory, slightly sweet, and super satisfying. The Laksa curry was rich and comforting with a good balance of spice and coconut. Ambiance is your typical modern cafe and the noise level was moderate, so we could still talk comfortably. Service was a bit on the slower side, but that’s pretty standard for the 626 so we weren’t surprised. If you want to save some time, you can join the Yelp waitlist ahead of time which definitely helps minimize the wait. Parking can be difficult during lunch since the lot is small and shared with other businesses. Street parking is available, but you might have to walk a little. Overall, the food was amazing and I would definitely come back for the chicken rice and Char Kway Teow.
The service was great! The food was prepared fast and tasted authentic but lackluster. The spice and the seasoning were dull leaving more to be desired especially after waiting two hours. The roti and the Kaya toast were delicious.
Noticed that this spot was getting some popularity so wanted to try out their food. This restaurant specializes in Malaysian and HK cuisine. We ordered the Roti Canai w/ Beef Rendang, Nasi Lemak w/ Rendang Curry Beef , and Char Kway Teow. All were very solid dishes. I love roti and have tasted some really good roti before, the ones here were pretty good, but I did remember wishing that the roti wasn’t as dense. I wished they made the skin a little thinner so that it could be more on the crispier side vs chewy side, but this is completely personal preference. The curry and beef sauce compliments well with the roti! The char kway teow was also delicious, but nothing extraordinary. The rice dish was also good but my least favorite, just because I felt it was lacking some sauce. The chicken was tender and full of flavor, but because there was just more rice the ratio felt a bit off. We ended up using some of the curry from the roti and that paired super well with the dish! It was quite busy when we went on a Thurs afternoon. The place is quite spacious with a good amount of seating. We ended up parking in a garage close by and walked to the restaurant. Staff were friendly and the food came out fairly quick and all around the same time!
Came here for lunch. I've been when it first opened, since then they had picked up 3 Michelin Bib Gourmand awards. This is a nice Malaysian comfort food café, so don't expect immaculate service. The staff is very nice, friendly and multi lingual. The food, however, is excellent. I ordered the Roti Cenai and Hainan chicken rice (to go) and the Hokkien Prawn noodle soup and Malaysian milk tea for dining in. The broth is amazing, the noodles are not soggy, the water spinach (kangkung) is fresh and crisp and the shrimp is good as well. It seems the Hainan chicken rice is rather popular. Will find out how it compares to Savoy. I got seated right away, however as I was leaving there was a line outside at 1pm.
Second time lucky as there's usually a very long wait here. The virtual waiting queue helps as you can't book! I grew up in Malaysia and Laksa is my go to. My broth was rich from the coconut milk, fragrant from the spices and umami from the shrimp and curry flavours. The noodles were different from the mix of Hokkien noodles with Vermicelli I'm used to, but still chewy and contrasted with the textures of the other ingredients. My friend's Bak Kut Teh (pork ribs in herb soup) were tough and dry, like the meat is overcooked. The ratings reflect this chewing exercise for her jaw. Service was very efficient as we would expect for such a busy place. The front patio increased the seating area and the whole place was bustling. They didn't kick us out as soon as we finish, which would be very common in many countries. Maybe this is because of the tipping culture?
