Outstanding location...I've enjoyed this On the Border for over 35 years...great lunch with family...very affordable and killer chips and salsa....gotta feast on queso, it's excellent...new streamlined menu makes the selections way less overwhelming....beef and chicken fajitas rock! Borderita margarita on the rocks is definately a must...this location is very clean and the bathrooms are very clean as well....service is top notch and all employees definately show a sense of urgancy....food came out fast and was piping hot...Reviews of restaurants are very popular these days and I highly recommend On the Border in Arlington Texas.
I highly recommend getting the Big Burrito, it's not on the menu but it's absolutely amazing. I don't remember my servers name but he was awesome, constant 10/10 service. We showed up a little late and left about 20 minutes before closing but we weren't rushed out like other places do, been here before and will eat here again soon.
Stopped by on Taco Tuesday a cpl of weeks ago... Got it to go, and for $20 I got 10 tacos, 2 bags of chips with salsa and All the fixins for the tacos!! And the tacos were light and delicious 🤤😋 I wouldn't have gotten that much at Taco Bell or Taco Casa
By far the friendliest OTB in our area. Service was exceptional and food cooked well. Our server was one of the best seen of late at any restaurant we've dined. Highly recommended. The fajitas for two and queso with our chips and salsa were fresh and delicious.
This is a fantastic restaurant! All of their food was great, but the beans were the best I ever had. They can make beans that are actually flavorful. I love tgis restaurant.
This was one of the best meals I have ever had in my entire life. I have worked in food management for many years , and my meal last night was worthy of 20 stars ! Our server Nicole was so very kind and had the best service I have ever received from any business! We even went an hour before close. Staff was very friendly, and our food was hot and fresh considering they were pre-closing.
Previously my mom and I had stopped going back to On The Border because they stopped serving the Chile Rellenos and it had seemed like the service was getting less and less. However, we decided to give it one more chance because they brought the Chile Rellenos back. My mom was very happy and that is what determines my satisfaction at a restaurant. I don't know if it is just this restaurant or the area but the food was delicious, hot, and good. Also, we had a very professional; waiter who was very patient and respectful, and we made sure to give him a hefty tip. Congrats to On The Border at this location. We will definitely go back!
Food was great- $6 were fantastic! Our chips were a little cold, and salsa was not cold but not warm either. We ordered chicken fajitas for 2, huge portions. Fresh tortillas, and great side set ups! Even came with the pappasitos butter that I love. My biggest complaint is that this location needs a remodel- the lighting is crazy. Huge bright LED lights and then extremely bright LED hanging lights over each booth. A little mood lighting or ambient lighting would make a huge impact. Overall we were impressed! Once they’ve updated the restaurant to match the food we will be back!
This restaurant has stepped up their game. The food was better than I've had in the past. Very much all-around improved. Attentive waiters helped my wife with her food allergies, as well as kept our salsa bowls, chips and drinks full. Delicious cocktails. My only knock is the hard taco had too much grease from the beef but they took care of it and it came back out quickly and oh so yummy
Good place to eat and drink, if you desire adult beverages. It's near the mall, so can eat before or after shopping. Once you get pass the old wood smell, you can enjoy the rustic decor and the custom liquor bottle light shades. There is plenty of seating and a covered patio. Seating is a combination of booths, tables, and banquet seating. The service during this visit was very good. Our food came out hot, tasted delicious, and plated well. It was slow getting our ticket and I wasnta fan of the server having to go to the back to process the payment, but overall a good experience.
Great location. Great food. Great table service (his name is Brandon I think), minus the front hostess who seemed didn’t like her work. She doesn’t greet us and doesn’t smile. Just a cold ‘how many’. It was odd so I paid a bit more attention and yes, she gave the same treatment to 3-4 other groups of diners when they walked in a span of 10 minutes. Maybe she had a hard day or something. Hope it is better for her tomorrow. Anyhow, it is a festive feeling every time I at On the Border, maybe due to their music and decors, and lights. Gracias!
We visited this location on I20 in Arlington on Wed.Jan 21 around 4pm Greg was our waiter. He was phenomenal😍 The problem was the new salsa it was awful and I was craving it so bad. I understand you have a new owner which is great but please fix the salsa it was too warm and had NO flavor other than that, my fajitas were great very tender and delicious 😋 the salsa almost ruined the meal. Please fix the problem! I'm 💯 sure I am not the only customer feeling this way.Thank you!
To put it plainly we weren’t impressed. On the border was mediocre Mexican but it was affordable. Now that it’s owned by pappas it’s pricier and my food was still underwhelming. I wouldn’t go again. I’m not paying over $100 for 2ppl to eat Mexican and we don’t even want to take our leftovers.
Food was amazing! But the service we recieved was sub-par, at best. It wasn't busy while we were there and we barely saw our server. Our drinks weren't refilled, though cups were empty. When given payment, our server swiped my card and then disappeared for almost 10 minutes WITH my card. I had to go ask for our swrver to get my card and reciept.
Very very disappointed that the salsa has changed. The original salsa is what kept be always coming back. It is not a fresh salsa. It is a warm and smoky very mild salsa. The queso also changed which I believe is an improvement, with fresh ground beef and more flavor. But an enchilada is an enchilada, fajitas are fajitas. Their salsa was one of a kind. It's too bad I will miss the salsa and the many good times had.
Went to On The Border with the family. Like most Mexican restaurants, it is themed well and inviting. The food was hit and miss, and my enchiladas were super hot and tasted good. My wife's were Luke warm. The issue today was the service. Like most know, I judge a good restaurant by checking on you inconspicuously and keeping my drink filled. My drink was empty before our food arrived and stayed that way till we were almost done. Why? Because a runner brought the food. The waitress stopped by and asked how everything was, and if we needed anything, we told her a few things, including my drink refill. She brought an extra plate and forgot everything else. She finally came back after we were practically done, then asked if I needed a refill. I said, "Well, not anymore." The overall experience was OK. Great atmosphere with family. The food was ok. Service was below average. I have eaten at good On The Border's, and everyone has a bad day. It wasn't so bad that I wouldn't return, but I'm not in any hurry to go back.
I was in town for a concert. Very happy to find this restaurant so close. We eat at the one in Houston a lot. This location is literally almost across the street from the Globe Life field and ATT Stadium. I can only assume they get very busy in game days. But on this day , a concert in the baseball field did not warrant scheduling staff. We got there at about 430-5 in a Saturday night and they literally told us the wait was about a hour cause they only had 3 waitstaff. They were trying to get others called in. It was not very busy when we got there but people were filing in and right back out after waiting for so long to be seated. The food was great but it just took way to long to get drinks, menus, once we ordered it came out very fast, delivered by a manager that was working tables as well. Place was very nice and clean , just need work on scheduling staff for busy times with events center so close.
Service was good! But the food genuinely is awful now. The chips are better, I'll give them that. The tortillas are the same. That's it. But the salsa is worse. The chicken in the fajitas is way worse. The beans are WAY worse. The rice is worse. The margaritas are definitely worse. Why is it all so much worse, OTB?!! Just bc you got bought didn't mean you had to change nearly EVERYTHING to be worse. I'm genuinely so sad, we used to come all the dang time and now we won't be back unless it's at gunpoint for some reason. We had a good run OTB. I won't forget what we had these past 25 years. I suppose there comes a time for every good thing to end. I just wasn't ready. I wasn't ready... 😭😭😭 Ps - OTB team, please for the love of God do not reply to this review with the exact same boilerplate reply you have given every other review that people took the time to write up individually. I will be so annoyed, I swear to heck lol
The names of the dishes have not changed, but the taste of the food has definitely changed.... and not for the better. I will give the new fire roasted salsa, served warm, a thumbs up. I also like that they are serving the thin tortilla chips. That is where my praise ends. The chicken fajitas have zero trace of a grilled flavor. Rather than grilled the chicken appeared to be nothing more than pan seared. The "new" spice blend is odd at best. My neighborhood restaurant has a better fajita at a fraction of the cost. The worst offense though was the refried beans. They were more like a refried bean slurry. Bad enough the beans were runny, but the taste was just awful. After decades of being OTB customers, after last nights meal the consensus is that OTB has run it's course with us and it is time to bid adios.
If I could give this place zero stars I would. On The Border used to be one of my favorite restaurants, this place is horrible. They completely changed all of the food. The menu doesn't have many choices or some of the great dishes that they were known for. The queso was watered down, the taco salad was disgusting. I will NEVER come back again. I can't believe they sell food like this! Our server is great though. That's the only good thing about this experience.
This place sucks now. They messed it up. The food was awful. The cheese and salsa were not the same. We will never be back. I used to love on the border.
What happened to OTB? This food is HORRIBLE. Everything is different from the rice to the chips to the chili sauce. It’s absolutely disgusting. We ordered take out tonight and had no clue they were now under Pappasitos. We will never eat here again. The classic OTB taste we loved is gone. You can get better tasting food at Taco Bell. Guess we are Abuelos and Chuys customers now.
We’ve been coming to on the border regularly for 13 years and have always ordered 2-4 quarts of salsa every time we’ve ordered, which at times was at least twice a week. The regular menu is mediocre at best, but the salsa was my husbands favorite in the world. We were SO disappointed to have spent over $200 on our order tonight only to get home and our salsa be this mild, watery, flavorless tomato soup and not our hot, zesty, chunky, flavorful salsa we’ve depended on for over a decade. Additionally, our order was incomplete. What a slap in the face to spend that much money in this economy just to have such a lackluster meal. We will not be back until the salsa is reverted to the original recipe.
Got the classic burrito and everything on the plate seems to have changed and not for the better. Somehow the meat was spicy, dry and tasted like it was seasoned with cinnamon. The rice looked and tasted like cheap supermarket rice and the salsa is not the original salsa at all. I was looking forward to it for dinner, but was left disappointed.
Review 2022- I really want to support OTB, but service was not up to par. Items where missing from my meal that I had to ask for. I ordered sopapilla's for dessert, yet the waiter brings them out while I'm still eating my entree. The group behind me had words with the same waiter. I've never seen a person dine and dash, but I saw it. A lady at the bar, barely touched her food and alcoholic beverage. I could tell she was also annoyed by the waiter so she just left. When I asked for my flour tortillas I received cold ones. This was the first time this has happened and all the yrs I've been going to OTB. I feel my waiter took unused tortillas from other tables. Note: I visited around 12-1pm on a weekday. I saw many men with briefcases coming out from the back. They looked like managers/corporate. If so it's crazy that this was the worst experience I ever had from OTB. BTW the waiter said her name was Emma. Review 2021-I dined in today and enjoyed a great meal. OTB did a great job with social distancing everyone, but I do think the hostess needs to be more welcoming. They were only opened for an hour and she already seemed annoyed and ready to go. However, my server Emile did a great job like always.
