Avis sur Uchiko Austin
My husband and I have frequented Uchiko often especially to celebrate special occasions over the last few years. It’s so easy to make a reservation so we never have a wait time. Our most recent visit was unlike the others, unfortunately, in a negative way. Let’s start with the positives (as per usual): - Food and drinks were fantastic especially for the price! We did the Happy Hour Omakase and Vegetarian Chefs Tasting Menu. Zero regrets there. 🙂 - The staff is so thorough about dietary restrictions! It makes the meal stress free for me since some of my restrictions are substantial in terms of consequences. - The ambiance is lovely and the space is super family friendly! It was our first time taking our now 1 year old son and everyone - especially the front greeters - was kind, sweet, and supportive of us walking around with him since he just started walking and won’t sit still! The negative (docked 1 star for this): - Our server, Luke, served up some unnecessary sass. While requesting the Omakase tasting, they had asked for dietary restrictions - restrictions tend to be health related so it was easy for me to share my restrictions - allergic to shellfish and sensitive to black pepper. Those specific words “dietary restrictions” did not translate in our minds to include dietary preferences as well - my husband only eats white meat, not red meat. - Move ahead to a few courses down… beef was served to him. It looked beautiful but I very politely mentioned “so sorry, but my husband doesn’t eat red meat… is it possible to substitute this with something else?” We would’ve been happy to cover the cost. We just didn’t want to eat something we don’t eat both preferentially as well for cultural/religious reasons. Luke’s response was less than kind and empathic saying something along the lines of “when I asked for dietary restrictions, that’s where this should’ve been mentioned…” yes, okay, we accept that and apologize but mistakes happen especially by sleepless parents of an infant. The attitude in which the response was given took a celebratory occasion and fantastic meal and turned it into a memory that has been painted negatively for us. - Luke was kind enough to bring me a vegetarian dish to try, on the house, which I was so grateful for! But ruined the moment by saying “I had already put this in free of cost prior to the changing out of the previous dish…” wow… way to take a kind gesture and make it awkward, rude, and unpleasant. - In addition, despite this interaction, my husband politely said goodbye and thank you. Luke did not acknowledge the niceties at all. We’ve been eating at Uchiko for years and have had, overall, fantastic experiences! Hoping Luke was simply having a rough day but if this is how they speak to others often, prepare yourselves for some discomfort. Who waits on you matters and what you say/how you say it matters so much; hoping next time we’re back that we get someone else.
Went to Uchiko for the first time for my birthday dinner and I have never felt so special!! We got a reservation to sit at the sushi bar and I could not recommend that experience enough!! The chef was absolutely incredible and prepared us so many delicious dishes I was incredibly blown away! Our cocktail waiter was also incredibly attentive and suggested amazing drinks for our meal. We opted for the Omakase, which allowed us to try many different types of sashimi, tempura, stand alone dishes, etc. We also got a few on the house items for my birthday which I thought was such a special touch. I absolutely loved my experience at Uchiko and will be coming back for a happy hour as I’ve heard it’s one of the best in the city!
Love Uchiko! It was my second visit and I brought a friend to try it out who said it was her favorite restaurant in Austin. I love the selection of vegetarian rolls. The staff are lovely and I can't wait to return soon.
It was a surprise to be able to get a reservation here on a Friday evening. We browsed the menu and talked with our server about the choices. We eventually settled on the somakase which allowed us to work with our server on preference and allow them to pick dishes. A nice feature was to specify a budget as well. We also picked out and enjoyed two glasses of unfiltered sake. All the food was delicious. Many of the crudo were served with flavorful broth and we were encouraged to use spoons instead of chopsticks to enjoy these dishes. We were celebrating a special event at the end of the meal our server graciously comped is our beverages.
I often feel like fine-dining seems to punish its clientele with strange flavors, severe portions, heaps of vegetables, restrictive use of fat and salt — like it’s daring you to not enjoy your food. Uchiko is not that kind of restaurant. I had, basically, chicken nuggets, fried potatoes, and fried ice cream — and the child inside me was soaring. The menu is approachable for any palate or pricepoint. The flavors are elevated, but the mediums carrying them are indulgent and comfortable. The crab roll was my favorite. The gyutaro skewers were my least favorite. Service was excellent, and the restaurant is beautiful. You have to try Uchiko!! It’s so good!
We had an incredible meal here last night. We went for a server directed tasting and Aaron really delivered. Everything we had was so amazing that we really couldn’t pick out the best item served.
We had an absolutely incredible experience at Uchiko in Austin! Our bartender, Sharon, was phenomenal — knowledgeable, attentive, and so thoughtful with her recommendations. She guided us through the menu and helped us discover dishes and drinks we may not have tried otherwise, and every single suggestion was spot on. Their happy hour was wonderful, the cocktails were delicious, and everything we ate was beyond flavorful. Each dish felt creative, unexpected, and genuinely surprising in the best possible way. From start to finish, the experience exceeded our expectations. We can’t wait to come back — highly recommend!
This was one of the best meals I’ve had in my life. We did the tasting menu option where your server chooses what you eat (after you share what you like, don’t like, price point). Our server was Brandi and tbh, she could make a ton of money with a consulting gig teaching folks how to provide excellent service. Uchiko clearly has an amazing chef and a really impressive focus on full-team service. Anyone who brings you a dish explains it to you and that is awesome. We loved all of our food. My fav was this trumpet mushroom bite that was possibly the best thing I’ve eaten in my life. I said what I said. Importantly, I wouldn’t have noticed it if Brandi hadn’t mentioned it when she took us through the menu. If you’re looking for a once in a lifetime experience and a true food journey, check this place out. I’ve eaten at a few Michelin star places here and abroad and I can tell you this is that level of quality. The fish, the meat, the care and clear understanding of (and joy for) food comes through impeccably. The focus on service and experience is seamless and perfect. 1,0000/10.
2nd time Austin visitor and couldn’t miss dining here! My daughter and I sat at the bar and it was a fun experience! Very one on one service! Atmosphere is versatile: not quiet, but not loud; can be cozy and entertaining at the same time! So smartly designed. Try the unfiltered Sake! The food was exceptional. Nothing looks the same. Chefs here come up with amazing combinations of fish, textures, colors, and flavors that blend perfectly. Loved the Charred Edamames! An odd one but great was the mushroom one! Oh…. Must try the banana desert…. Muahhh! Not cheap! But you can taste and feel the quality and the dedication on each serving! I declare UCHIKO my one place to go when I visit Austin!
Went to Uchiko for their happy hour omakase and it was so delicious! The price and the quality make it well worth! The service was amazing and the ambiance is super nice! There is complimentary valet which was a lifesaver since this area has very little parking and there are signs in the neighborhood saying not to park there. It’s super popular here so I’d recommend making a reservation before hand! They were able to accommodate some walk-ins while we were there but the place was packed!
Visited on a Friday evening during happy hour. We were seated promptly. Our waiter Jeremy was efficient, helpful and attentive. He was happy to answer any questions we had about the menu. All staff were proactive and professional. Every dish we had was extremely flavourful and stood out in their own way. We liked the gyudon and also shag makinono. The karaage was very tasty too. The sashimi was fresh and my husband who has been looking for a good Japanese restaurant is happy to come back - kinda the first Japanese restaurant he's said that about in a long time! Foodie 5yo enjoyed this place too and has asked when we will be coming back and which of his friends we should bring with us 😂 Is it authentic pure Japanese? No, it's fusion Japanese with high quality ingredients. Our family will definitely be back.
This was my first time visiting, but I'll definitely be back. I sat at the sushi bar and was assigned a chef. Tony prepared everything in front of me and it tasted amazing. I enjoyed the tasting of various dishes and gave him the go ahead to be as creative, as he wanted. My waiter was also amazing and very attentive. The service and food were outstanding! I cannot wait to visit again.
It was my first time dining at this Japanese restaurant, and I was truly impressed. The atmosphere is cozy and beautifully decorated, and they even have private rooms. We came to celebrate a birthday, and every dish was fresh, delicious, and clean. The drink menu has a great variety, and the prices are reasonable. The staff provided excellent service, and the manager was very polite, checking on us throughout our meal. I’m not surprised the restaurant is so popular. I will definitely come back again!
Just Amazing and Accommodating! I made a reservation for my Brother's Birthday since he loves sushi and I wanted to treat him for his first mini vacation in Austin. I have lived in Austin for about 5 years and as a vegan I have never tried Uchiko but after seeing their menu online it was the perfect restaurant for my not only my brother and I but also our plus ones! Our server Melissa was so sweet, welcoming, and made our first experience so much fun and pleasant! Melissa made sure each of us were satisfied and was consistent with refills, explained the menu to us, and helped make my brother feel special for his Birthday. He was so grateful for the experience he had a Uchiko and plans on visiting again. The ambiance of the restaurant was classy with warm comforting lighting, was not too noisy, and it was entertaining watching the chefs get in the zone. The food was mind blowing good! Each bite we took of our dishes made us pause, close our eyes, and savor every bite. From the drinks, to appetizers, entrees, and dessert we were pleased with our selections and the complexity of every meal, even the most simple dishes felt like a whole experience. We definitely plan on coming back to have others try Uchiko!
We had such a wonderful experience here! Our waitress, Elizabeth, was absolutely enchanting in the way she described each dish. She gave us thoughtful recommendations and guided us so we didn’t overwhelm our order, which allowed us to enjoy the full experience without missing a thing. Every bite was delicious, and the service truly elevated the night. We’ll definitely be coming back!
Uchiko delivers a fantastic dining experience with top-notch sushi and attentive service. The atmosphere is vibrant yet refined, making it perfect for a night out. Every dish was well-crafted, but the standout was the dessert—“milk and cereal”—absolutely incredible. Highly recommend for anyone who appreciates quality Japanese cuisine with a creative twist.
Plenty of parking, there’s a parking lot and valet available. It’s in a complex so there are other parking areas available just a few steps away as well. Food and service were amazing. As someone with a shellfish allergy but loves the sushi experience, there were still plenty of veggie (and even meat) sushi options. The menu can be overwhelming if you’re not as familiar with different sushi types but the server was very helpful in that regard and gave some wonderful recommendations. The noise level was pretty loud, and it can be difficult to hear and talk to your table without raising your voice a bit. Overall a great experience, pricy but this is expected, I would absolutely go back!

We’ve been to a few Uchiko and Uchi locations and while we had some good food at this one, the wagyu dishes we got fell a bit short, for example the gyutoro was too charred to get that usual great flavor of the meat. We maybe ventured a bit too far off our normal path also because one dish we did not enjoy at all but on the menu it sounded great. Our waiter was really amazing though and could tell we didn’t like it and took it off our bill. Overall, would maybe give this location another try but will probably go to the Uchi in town next time.

My Go-To for an Unforgettable Austin Meal: Uchiko
You know how some places just stick with you? Uchiko, right here in Austin, is one of those culinary gems that truly stands out. People aren't just saying it's good; they're calling it their favorite place in the whole world, and I can absolutely see why.The service here is just on another level. It’s not just polite; it’s genuinely welcoming and incredibly attentive. I’ve heard stories, and experienced myself, how the team goes above and beyond. Imagine doing a tasting menu where your server...
Uchiko: Austin's Japanese Gem Where Every Dish is a 10/10
Hey Austin foodies, let me tell you about Uchiko. You know how tough it can be to snag a prime spot on a Saturday night? Well, I've heard from more than a few folks that even then, securing a reservation at their bar is surprisingly breezy. That's a huge win in my book, especially when you're looking for a top-tier Japanese experience without the usual reservation headache. What really sets Uchiko apart, beyond the fantastic food, is the experience at the bar. Imagine this: the sushi chefs the
