Really nice meal and great service! Everything was served very warm and very tasty and in good time. Service was great throughout our meal and my salted caramel brownie was probably the best dessert I’ve had for a long time. We will be back for sure :-) highly recommend
We absolutely loved our visit to the Barley last week, the staff couldn’t do enough for us and the food was amazing. Great village pub atmosphere with friendly locals. Our absolute go to pub/restaurant
First time visiting the Barley Mow and we weren't disappointed. Food was delicious and Hannah was great as our, think the term is server these days, good choices on the menu and very reasonably priced. Really enjoyable and look forward to a return visit
Lovely village pub with a great menu and well-kept ales. Dog friendly. Pleasant service. Pleasant interior.
What a really cracking pub. We were recommended by a friend so we thought we'd give it a go, not coming from the area, and we found a gem. The building itself is a good old fashioned rustic pub. The food was fantastic. Your chef deserves a payrise, and your staff were excellent. Really friendly and welcoming. You have made another customer. I shall return
Iona & At Matilda we're brilliant service top rate and the food was brilliant. Out local pub has finally arrived thank you team see you next week cheers R
Had a lovely time for a friend's leaving do, lovely lady on the bar was bright and chipper, really felt a homely atmosphere and would love to visit again.
David and his team have done an incredible job of turning our local pub into the heart of the village. Welcoming, amazing food, lovely atmosphere and very family friendly. We love it here and appreciate David and the team so much. Best pub ever!!
Great experience here for my daughter's birthday. Excellent food and service. Will definitely go back!
This pub is absolutely everything you’d want in a small village pub. The staff are amazing and the manager David always goes above and beyond. The food is amazing, they are always very accommodating for any dietary or additional needs. They have done some wonderful events recently and add so much to the local community. Would highly recommend.
I recently attended a band night at the pub. I had a light bite in the bar area beforehand, which was delicious and perfectly priced. The band was in the tent area in the garden, so despite being winter, they opened the garden bar and service was great. The tent was full with an amazing atmosphere and we had such a great time. Such a brilliant village pub!
Unbelievably good roast dinner today, I had the mushroom bourguinon pie with a side of honey roast sausages. It was all lovely. My daughter had a child’s roast beef and really enjoyed it. My husband had the trio roast and said it was the best roast he’s had in a long time…considering he’s a butcher and loves proper meat, that is a huge compliment! Our friends really enjoyed theirs too. My only complaint…it was freezing cold! Despite booking a restaurant table we were seated in the bar area, even after we asked if we could close the door we were still shivering and sat with coats on. On a chilly autumnal day a pub should be nice a cosy. The food was hot and yummy and that made up for it.
Great little place, really popular with the locals... Queuing up when before it opens for food and socialising. Great outside space with covered seating and outside bar in the massive beer garden. Traditional interior, very clean and inviting... Friendly staff A great space to enjoy the warmer weather
Fantastic pub - and even better food. Wonderful service, very high quality food dishes. Will be back when next in the area!
We have not been in for a while so decided to take advantage of a free evening and enjoy a meal out. Some great options on the menu and had all vegetarian with the baked Camembert and veggie wellington. Excellent food with great service and very agreeable wines. To be honest I am surprised this place is not packed out as the menu and cooking way surpasses the average pub. Plus this is a pub that cares about the village community throwing on brilliant events for children at the end of term with magicians and face painters.
Food is excellent with plenty of choices on the menu . Gluten-free options are available. Service is good and staff friendly. Prices are about normal for good pub food. Booking a table is advisable and car parking is available. Lovely meals and a friendly atmosphere made the evening very enjoyable. Would definitely return to the The Barley Mow.
Had a great meal here tonight. Everyone enjoyed the food, they went above and beyond to make the birthday lady feel special and catered well for one of our party that was GF. Will definitely be returning soon!
Fantastic food & service was great. Atmosphere was bubbly & friendly. Great place!
Just love to say came for my mums birthday meal. Had a gorgeous meal . Just want tp say thank any was any was fantastic and just friendly and polite 😊
Thank you, Leo. You did a grand job. Our impromtu dinner for four on a Monday evening turned into a really pleasant event: good food, nicely presented and served, interesting drinks, and a lovely atmosphere in the dining room. The strings of lights make it feel special. Well done to all at The Barley Mow and to you, our waiter who looked after us so well.
I attended a company lunch today and was treated to your festive menu. The turkey was absolutely the best turkey I have ever eaten. It was succulent, gorgeous flavour and served with a lovely selection of roasted veg.The food presentation was fabulous Treat yourselves first … brilliant value for money . Thank you Barley Mow
Four for lunch on a Friday, lovely little place. Polite and efficient waitress. Had the Smaller Classic Meals, all good and very tasty, size just right. Desserts lovely!
Lovely meal and reasonably priced. Beef and Ale pile was enjoyed by the men and the fishcake and frittata by the women. Especially liked the hot drink and small pudding offer to finish off. Will definitely visit again.
Excellent service and food was delish: Best Sunday roast and so lucky to have the Barley Mow in our village.
Great pub with that village feel. All the locals seem friendly and welcoming. I can't wait to move to the area to make it my local.
Great service and food. New to the area. Can see this quite easily becoming our regular
Great service, would recommend. Had a birthday party there. Such a lovely meal
The Barley Mow was brilliant on Christmas Eve, it was packed full with lovely people. We had absolutely amazing food and a brilliant time Thank you guys
Well done to The Barley Mow for running a SEND carer event last night. A pub that truly is at the heart of their community. Thank you for opening your doors and providing such a welcome.
My husband was disappointed that on a Thursday there wasn’t his first choice of food available but the alternative burger was tasty. My food was tasty too but I was disappointed that the main course came with piles of peas.
Lovely food and service but very close seating and loud atmosphere (we did dine on a Friday night though)
Absolutely Lovely food, would definitely visit again, just a shame they don’t do a gluten free menu as I’d love to come again and bring friends, noticed all items contained gluten.salmon was incredible and cookie dessert delicious. lovely waitress also, didn’t get her name but a lovely accent (South American?).
Really good food, Sunday roast was excellent and the desserts were amazing, a good selection to choose from. Will definitely be back again.
Visited the Barley Mow for a catch-up with friends. We had food, which was fine, and drinks for 3 for under £70. The staff were lovely and welcoming. We sat outside under a canopy, which was great given the glorious sunshine. We look forward to our next catch-up.
Lovely lunch - just could have been a bit warmer in the restaurant.
So this is a fairly loud pub even in the dining area. We booked almost a month ago for the festive meal to celebrate Christmas with family while visiting from the States. When we arrived we were told that they don't serve the festive menu on Sundays. Yet the printed menu says that the festive meals served every day except Christmas, No mention on their website of not serving it on Sundays, wish we had called instead of booking online, maybe that would been mentioned. That said the service was fantastic, The dining area is too tightly packed and a bit noisy and I was really looking forward to venison roast and ended up with a tiny portion of venison in my casserole. My sister reported that the Sunday roast chicken was dry. I really think that the restaurant could have made a better effort at telling us there was not the festive menu available when we booked or on their website or printed material. With the many choices of pubs, don't see any reason to return.
Lovely place but the food took nearly an hour from ordering, and was quite expensive for it to taste meh. The salt and chilli chips weirdly tasted of cinnamon, no chilli or salt. I ordered mac n cheese and was asked what topping as it needs a topping. I chose the mushrooms. Not only was it burnt, but I saw they charged extra when I wasn't allowed it plain. Pork belly was nice though.
Been three times now and although food, staff and atmosphere is always great, the kitchen is one of the slowest ever experienced, food has taken from 40 minutes to 1.5 hours to arrive and on one visit we were second out of three tables to order. Far too long for 3 adult and 1 childs meal, real shame as price not an issue for us but service is. Not fair of management to expose front of house staff to complaints about what is ultimately a management failing.
Came for late lunch for my husband’s birthday. I’d been before and enjoyed the food so was looking forward to coming again. Waitress didn’t really feel like serving us, had to ask if it was table service or order at the bar. At that point she decided she could take our order for us. Gave our order .. 2 starters, 2 mains. Our mains came, no sign of the starters so had to give them a miss and my main was wrong anyway. Nothing in the way of an apology. Nothing! We had our drinks for free for our inconvenience, a pint and a lime/soda, but by the time I left I felt like it was my fault everything was wrong due to the young lady’s attitude. I’ll need time to forget the whole experience before I return
I would not recommend it. In short, it took about 50 minutes for them to make 2 coffees and over an hour for our food to arrive, despite the restaurant being quiet when we arrived. Had to follow up twice with the waiter, who ended up asking us what we ordered after nothing had arrived 40 minutes after we placed our order. The lamb looked and tasted good, but the chicken schnitzel was bland. No real apology was offered, despite the fact that other tables received food and drink before us, despite ordering more than 10 minutes after us. Another table seemed fairly unhappy about the lack of service as well.
Myself and my family came here for Sunday lunch and having not been from around here we were eager to eat someone lush and chose the Barley Mow. However the expectation vs reality hit when we walked through the pub door. We went in to the restaurant and having booked a table prior to our booking there was not one appropriately set up considering we had reserved it. This aside, we sat down 4 adults and a 13 month old baby. We ordered our drinks first and having got them it took another 20 minutes for us to get our food ordered. Again, we waited and waited and having worked in a pub previously I was worried something was wrong since unfortunately our food took longer than 45 minutes to come. Considering we also had a hungry baby we would have expected a little bit more consideration and communication. We even peeped round to the restaurant and it wasn’t as busy as we thought! The waitress was clearly rushed off her feet and although polite, promised the children’s roast dinner would come in 5 minutes however 10 minutes later and we were left wondering. When the meals arrived the meals were ok but unfortunately I think had I known a meal of that quality would take that long - I would’ve chosen somewhere else. My roast potatoes were burnt to a black crisp and my creamy leeks were hand delivered from the freezer however in spite of this the staff tried to remain in good spirits. As frustrating and disappointing that our experience was - I’m hoping we are the only unfortunate ones who have waited an hour for our food. However please consider thinking about if it is worth waiting that long for food prior to coming to the pub.
Came for a family meal and the service and wait times were really long and it was not busy. The starters were nice, but the mains weren't the best. Potatoes tasted like they was a day old, with no seasoning as described on the menu, the meat was chewy and overcooked and had to ask for another round of drinks, and waited a long time after asking for the bill.
