This is one of my favorite places to eat while visiting Bastrop. American comfort food and desserts at respectable prices. Casual dining experience with country front porch atmosphere.
Vintage cottage w patio, delicious menu/lunch specials and live music every weekend!Lunch specials even have a tiny cake dessert. Wonderful trout, pulled pork, and meatloaf. I love the old style salad w peas, egg salad sandwhich, and fried pickles. And the nicest servers too- Ava is so sweet!
We were hungry and in downtown Bastrop poring over reviews. Gracies caught our eye, not only for the overwhelming positive reviews, but also for the great atmosphere. We were not disappointed. It was a beautiful and abnormally warm winter afternoon, which made for a perfect lunch on the patio. Service was prompt and super friendly. We split a spinach salad as an appetizer. We liked it a lot - good amount of diced purple onion and bacon to add some flavor and crunch. The dressing is a little thin, but don't let that turn you off. It doesn't overwhelm the salad itself. The chicken fried steak was truly good - the steak was tender and the breading was crunchy and tasty. Good gravy. The french fries were better than most places. Kinda disappointed with the green beans - under seasoned and uninspired - they really needed a dash of salt and bacon fat. The strip steak was cooked exactly to order, which we appreciated. The garlic mashed potatoes were good, but seemed more like a casserole. The broccoli could have benefited from some red pepper flakes, butter, and lemon juice. Prices were reasonable. The kitchen was efficient at getting the food out quickly and all hot on the plate.
I've now eaten here twice and loved it. I got the same thing both times - the steak. It was cooked to perfection both times. I ordered rare. The 1st time, for sides, I got the green beans and the Brussel sprouts. The Brussel sprouts were so good the 1st time that I got a double portion the second time. I was visiting my daughter from Oregon (in November for her birthday and for the Thanksgiving holiday)... when I visit her, we always go to Bastrop to eat out. We will definitely be going back to Gracie's when I visit again! Oh, and sitting out on the front patio (when the weather is nice) is a real treat! And the service was great both times we ate there!!
We stumbled into Gracie's our first night living in Bastrop. What a delightful experience. The patio was awesome - food was excellent - and the service was personal. After a day of moving, I wanted a filling meal and a cold beer. Gracie's delivered both. It felt like we discovered a hidden gem tucked discretely about fifty feet off Bastrop's quaint Main Street. I had the hamburger steak which I should have ordered "medium" instead of "medium-rare." I forgot what my wife had, but I'll never forget the French fries. These were some of the best French fries I've ever had in a restaurant. Gracie's is certainly worth the stop. Give it a try.
Dang! Gracie’s ROCKED it!!! Pun intended. 🤭 We came to Gracie’s, in Bastrop, to watch Pete Caren and his band. Then we discovered a hidden gem. Tucked around the corner of Main Street in Bastrop, is Gracie‘s. We love the atmosphere outside. We enjoyed good drinks, good food, and great service. Very accommodating and friendly. Good prices as well. If you’re ever in Bastrop, and looking for a place for good food, good service, and a great atmosphere, go to Gracie‘s!
We found ourselves wandering the streets of Bastrop on Labor day and luckily came across Gracies. Ali took care of us like we were family and gave us all her top tier recommendations. We had the shrimp portofino and the rosemary peach chicken. I'm literally getting hungry writing this review. Everything was simply amazing. We started off with the fried okra, paced ourselves with the chicken and shrimp and a salad and sadly never made it to dessert. The mini-bakery alone is going to inspire me to intermittent fast the next time we come back. We also got to meet Emma who was super kind. Each person we encountered made sure we were taken care of and had all we needed. Why doesn't google let you leave 10 stars?
If I could give it more stars, I would. I was stuck in Bastrop longer than I expected, and decided to try this place on a whim. I was drawn in by how it looked—just like someone’s home—and I was pleasantly surprised to find the atmosphere just as warm and peaceful as it appeared. I would go there to do homework and eat dinner, and the waitresses were always so kind. The food was delicious—very Southern, very comforting—and the sweet tea was absolute perfection: not too sweet, not unsweetened, just right. To anyone who gets to experience that atmosphere: take a chance and people-watch. That little street is so quiet, green, and peaceful. This restaurant was one of the few places that truly made me feel homesick—in the best way. It reminded me of sitting on my mom’s front porch.
We were starving after kayaking the river for over 3 hrs and Gracie’s was a recommendation given to us. We ordered mozarella sticks, chicken strips, catfish, chicken fried chicken and the rooster. All the food was perfectly crispy and delicious. And it came out pretty fast. This place will not disappoint you, a must try!

Ordered a hamburger and it was delicious . The staff was friendly and helpful and the restaurant was clean and welcoming.
It was a little hard to find a parking spot but that might be due to the live music that they had at the time. The bacon cheeseburger I had was good but didn't jump out at me. Though the chicken fried steak and chicken strips were very good. I would have to say the desserts were where it was at though. Definitely recommend that.
I was pleasantly surprised by my dining experience at Gracies. I had the Grill Chicken sandwich w/ side of corn and sweet mashed potatoes which was delish. For desert I had peach cobbler and the best part about the cobbler was it was just right. Not too sweet at all. The weather was just perfect so we sat outside. The waitress was very attentive and you could tell she wanted us to have the best possible dining experience and I must say mission accomplished. Great job!
After a weekend of camping and hiking, I was starving—and this cheeseburger hit the spot! 🍔🔥 Parking on a Sunday was a battle, but worth every bite. Juicy, flavorful, and that special Dijon sauce? Game changer. I usually never finish a whole burger, but this time I did. Cozy spot, great service, and a burger that’ll make you forget how tired you are.
The band, beautiful small town feel and scenery made the wait for initial service go by. The Christmas 🎄 lightening was going on near by that created an influx of people to the local eateries so this was our second restaurant and expected somewhat of a wait. The greeting and service once the waitress was able to catch up was excellent. We had a large party and all ordered chicken fried chicken, salmon and pasta, a sandwich and a kids meal along with chips and salsa. The chips and salsa were great, the chicken fried steak was ok,more breaded than meat, the salmon a bit dry and not much flavor along with the pasta, 2 different family members order this. One lives locally, which brought us to Gracie’s and said typically it’s great food and service but today was not the same. Does that keep us from coming again when we visit- NO- we understand and overall we enjoyed it!

chicken fried steak was left way too long un the fryer. The breading was crunchy, not crispy. The steak was reduced to nothing. The mashed potatoes were cold.

*UPDATE* Here is my reply back to the owner’s response to my original review: Thank you The Grace Miller restaurant for your response to my review of the “Charlotta”. I posted my original photo from my “Charlotta” that I ordered in 2017. The 2025 photo was on your site from either another person’s review or a menu photo that I indeed used for referencing. I did not take a photo of the “Charlotta” on 2/14/2025, as while eating it, my friend and I were discussing all the changes of the entree in looks, size and taste, and thus not getting a new photo of our order. Yes, we both ate the entree and we liked it, but it was just OK, and NOT the same as it had been before. We did inquire with our service staff about the dish and why it had changed. The server informed us of new ownership of the restaurant, the different dinnerware used for the dish now, as well as the two changes in the queso cheese sauce being used now, versus before, so yes, the dish has “most of the same ingredients” as replied to my review; but the fact remains it HAS changed and it lacks the former taste, quality and quantity of the past. I hope this answers the restaurant’s inquiries about the photos used in my original review, and why I wrote what is posted. I also appreciate The Grace Miller for being open to my honest opinion, as well as wanting to learn how to better serve their customers. Thank you again for listening to my review. ************************************************ ORIGINAL REVIEW: I’m writing this review based on one particular food item that has undergone changes, and not for the better. My best friend and I started coming to Gracie’s in 2017 and we lived at least 4 hours away. We chose the frito pie known as the “Charlotta” based on the menu and its reputation for being distinct to the restaurant itself. It was awesome. The small size was more than plenty. The melted cheese queso tasted like homemade and the browned ground meat and other ingredients were exceptional. We have visited in later years at least 3 more times, with our last visit on February 14, 2025. Needless to say we were very disappointed in the “Charlotta” and its changes. The small is much smaller due to the bowl size from a new distributor. The cheese queso is now a cheese sauce that tastes like canned nacho cheese at football games and movies and has changed twice due to the distributor. The “Charlotta” is no longer topped with fresh grated cheese and the lettuce has gone from chopped to stringy pieces. We understand The Gracie is now under new ownership as well, and pricing on food and dinnerware has risen over the years; but it is terrible to have a customer favorite menu item suffer because of this. I’m adding photos of how the “Charlotta”used to be served and how it is now. This menu item used to be a unique star of the restaurant, and now it has faded into cheapness. Although we still love the atmosphere, wait staff, desserts and other food items, it is sad that their famous “Charlotta” is not the grand, worth ordering entree of the past. It makes a difference on traveling customers who come from far away just to have that entree. (For Reference: photo with less salsa and more shredded cheese is the original from 2017 and the other with more salsa is from 2025.)

So many things wrong with our first and last time eating here: Multiple people came in after us and received their food before us and subsequently paid and left before us. The chicken fried steak was not even close to being the best I’ve ever had and actually one of the worst. 50% of the portion was over fried breading and the rest was a very tough to chew piece of meat, can confirm the same on chicken fried chicken as well. The piece of chicken was grizzle mostly. The sides were cold (mashed potatoes and macaroni). The macaroni was very greasy and not good. I originally was going to order dessert but after how bad the food was that was enough for me to not waste anymore money. When you wait so long for your food and it comes out wrong and cold it’s just a terrible experience.
I’m not from the area so I looked up restaurants around town and found Gracie’s. I looked through all the reviews and high hopes that they would be accurate. Unfortunately, I was very disappointed. The service was absolutely horrible. Probably the worst service I’ve ever had in a restaurant. I was a server and I know it can be a very difficult job so I try not to be judgemental and I always give the benefit of the doubt. There is no excuse for the way we were treated tonight though. What was supposed to be good southern eating and hospitality was actually overpriced, mediocre food and abysmal service. I had what was listed as the NY strip steak, but was actually an inexcusably overcooked unknown cut of meat. When we walked in, it took 15 minutes for anyone to come take a drink order. I tried to go to the bathroom and when I knocked on the door someone screamed at me from the inside, “JUST A MINUTE.” I sat down to wait for it to be open and a server walked out. When I got back to the table the same server that screamed at me came up and asked to take our order. She clearly had an attitude and barely spoke to us until eventually walking away without making sure our order was correct. The food came out fairly quickly but the steak was scorched, tough, dry, and tasted very strongly of black pepper. It was clearly not a NY strip. It was very a thin, cheap cut of meat that was mislabeled and overpriced. Since I couldn’t eat more than a few bites of it, I waited for our server to come back to ask for a to go box so I could bring it home to my dog. After another 20 minutes of waiting another server came up and asked if we wanted refills since both of our cups were empty. We asked for to go drinks and a to go box. She brought the drinks, but no box and left before we could ask for the ticket. 15 minutes after that she came and dropped off the check. I asked again for a box and she brought one. I never saw our original server again. Georgia, who brought us drinks and a to go box was very sweet, but our original server unfortunately did not introduce herself so I can’t tell you her name. $60 for a burger and an inedible steak is absolutely insane. I won’t go back and I cannot recommend anyone else eat here either. As a former server, I’m appalled by the practices here.
