The Bear is very different to the old boozer I knew 35 years ago, it’s very modern, great location, the staff were really nice, friendly and it made the lunch visit really good. Loads of seating, really clean and very comfortable. Two menus and a really good deal on the 3 course. Now I can be a bit fussy but I enjoyed every dish and everything about it! You really do have to enjoy this moment and I really couldn’t pick on anything so a massive thumbs up and next time I come to Bath I will try and stop in again. Really highly recommended and it’s free parking to the rear. Dog friendly ✅ Staff friendly ✅ Good parking ✅ Really good food ✅ Great price ✅

Beautifully designed and very cozy hotel (check out the room tour video). One of the best places we stayed during our UK trip. We were pleasantly surprised to be welcomed with good music in the room. The bar and restaurant offer great food and drinks. Location is excellent — just a short 10-15 minute walk to the city center. There’s also a nice hiking trail nearby that takes you up to the Bath Skyline for great views. 🏙️🌟

A fantastic boutique-style hotel with stunning rooms and modern amenities. The design feels elegant yet cozy, and the bathtubs are a great touch for a relaxing stay. The location is perfect—just a short distance from the city, making it super convenient. The bar and restaurant downstairs add to the experience, and the fish and chips are a must-try! Special thanks to Hailey, who was an excellent supervisor and went above and beyond to assist us. Highly recommend this hotel for a stylish and comfortable stay!

I get a set menù. Macrel and sausages and mash. The mash was really nice and the gravy rich with chrispy onion.

Had a great Sunday dinner with our family. The waiter was amazing and was able to suggest food for our daughter who has coeliac and also suggested coloring activities for the little one. The food and the service was great. Our family had a good time. Thank you

Went for lunch here today as we were working round the corner, despite my colleague still wearing his builders trousers we were given a warm welcome Absolutely delicious lunch. Best steak sandwich I've ever eaten. My friends chicken club was apparently also extremely good. Lady with Glasses and brown hair is so lovely and attentive. Young guy is also very friendly. 5 out of 5

On the CMAT and in the middle of student accommodation land, hardly any of whom appreciate Real Ale. Notwithstanding this, for those on the CMAT, this reviewer can state without fear of equivocation, the ale (Old Trip 4.2%abv) was in noble condition. Now, part of the GK estate this venue has accommodation (not experienced) and a kitchen open all day There is a particular starter dish on the menue toasted Camenbert, roast garlic and jot honey with sourdough. Supposedly to share ordered as a main meal. A superb infusion of flavours and textures. Washed down with Old Trip ale, sat outside in the sunshine, as pleasant a lunch as could possibly be had. An excellent venue for watching the rugby internationals on expensive pay-to-play platforms. It's advisable to advance book a table ifo a screen for England events.

Superb food. Wife and I had the thai soup, I think we need to find a recipe, and shared the chicken kiev and cheesy brocolli. Excellent all around. Please keep the wedge salad, super. Chicken moist and crunchy, cauliflower tasty and hot. Courtious service, fast, friendly. Too much food even though we shared. Well, we went back sunday for the roast beef. Excellent! Nice beef, potatoes, carrots, gravy and a superb yorkshire pud. We had the spring roll to start, great. For desert, the strawberry cheescake, to die for. All in all, two great meals, great service, nice atmosphere and good value.

Review of the restaurant. Chicken pate starter was mind-blowing, mains very great, desert (sticky toffee pudding or so) was out of this world! Great selection of drinks on tap and more! Had to wait too long for mains (i guess some messup with orders) - nevertheless, one of best meals we have had in England! Thank you!!!

I went here for lunch on a Saturday afternoon. The food was lovely and service was good. The wine was also very nice. I sat outside the front which is a good place to chill. They also have pic niq tables at the side. They have a nice restaurant part which is pretty much separate from the TV screens which shows sport. I arrived when people were watching the rugby but it didn't seem too roudy. They have a good menu and have free iced water available if you want any. The ladies loos are modern and kept nice and clean. It is also right next to a handy bus stop. I would definitely come back here.

Really happy with our 3 nights at The Bear. The pub area is also really fun, with tons of board games and good food. Need to mention Ester's attention to our family, always taking care of our children. Thanks so much!

Love the environment here. The staff just make you feel so welcome. Hayley as front of house was extremely helpful too, explaining the choices and flavours of gins. Comfortable and the food is varied and spot on. Highly recommended from me...which is rare. Thanks very much

Came with my friends for some drinks. Ended up ordering food as well. The service here is second to none! The staff friendly, accommodating, knowledgeable... Best place in Bath for drinks and food. Didn't stay in the hotel but if the service is this good in the pub, I'd assume the hotel service and standards is fantastic!

Stayed for 2 nights in August, room was clean, well presented and comfortable. Staff very welcoming and friendly. We didn’t eat at The Bear Inn as we were visiting family in Bath, but we did have a few drinks in the bar which we enjoyed and were reasonably priced. Great location for a short 10-15 stroll into Bath.

Popped in for breakfast on Sunday and had a wonderful experience! Full English surpassed my expectations with such quality and taste. Smoked salmon and scrambled eggs was really nice, so fresh! Definitely coming back based on the breakfast and staff were awesome and knowledgeable. Shout out to the outstanding chef in the back and David front of house.

Best Green King I've even eaten in. Food was excellent. Service was good, very relaxed. The buzz was good for a Sunday afternoon with the rugby on. Shame I was suffering with a cold and couldn't enjoy myself as much as I could have. I'll definitely return.

We have just come back from a weekend in Bath and stayed at The Bear Inn for two nights. We had a pleasant stay and Claire was so welcoming! She made sure our stay was perfect - which it was! All the staff were great and the breakfast was AMAZING! Thank you! Would highly recommend. Thank you again!!

I recently stayed at the Bear Inn for two nights and it was the perfect stay! The room was lovely, clean and spacious with a sofa area and a massive bathroom. The staff were friendly and it was a quick walk in the main city centre. Would definitely recommend to stay here if visiting Bath!

The Bear offers a great atmosphere for couples, families and friends. The staff are friendly and helpful and the food is excellent, especially the Sunday roast (vegan option is one of the best I’ve had in Bath). It shows loads of different sport, without the vibe of some other sporting pubs, and Ali is always happy to switch the TV to the rugby (even if it is to watch Bristol Bears!). We moved locally in the spring and this is a great local pub!

Stayed here after finding it online. Car park for visitors. Perfect for popping on a bus into Bath city centre. Room was cosy and beautifully clean and modern. The bar downstairs had games to play and was busy in the evening, making the atmosphere fun. Would definitely visit again. Enjoyed our stay.

We have just had a most enjoyable stay here. The pub is on a busy road and has a small car park behind it. It is around a 15 minute walk to the city, downhill, returning uphill of course and quite hard work! Our standard room (4) was lovely, of good dimensions, very nicely decorated and furnished with a good coffee machine. The en suite had a smart walk in shower. We enjoyed our evening meal of roast beef and turkey respectively and a bottle of wine. Breakfast was also excellent and plenty of it, my avocado and poached eggs on toast particularly nice. I was contacted in advance of our stay about an issue with the hot water system not working and by way of recompense offered free dinner and drinks, which we accepted. We were also allowed to use their car park on arrival in Bath. We very much enjoyed our stay and the minor hot water issue was dealt with particularly well. Highly recomended for a comfortable overnight stay in the lovely city of Bath.

First time in Bath, stayed here based on other reviews and not disappointed. Staff very friendly and welcoming, lovely spacious room with everything we needed and great food. Be prepared for the walk up the hill from the city centre. It’s a long one but worth it when you get to the top!

Stayed here a couple of times now. Fantastic service from the moment you arrive. Lovely rooms, great pub downstairs with entertainment, good food/drink selection and loads of board games you can take up to your room. Only a 15 min walk into the centre or a 5min taxi ride. Staff were fantastic. Will 100% stay again if we are back in the area.

On Friday we made a late booking as we were travelling. The staff were very welcoming and accommodating. We're travelling from overseas and in 7 weeks of travelling our meals at this pub would have to rate as one of the best. A big thanks to the chef and staff that served us tonight in the dining room!

Joe is so helpful & friendly. He served us dinner tonight, which was delicious and coffee this morning. All of the staff have been lovely. We stayed in Room 5 with the balcony. Comfy bed, soft linen, spacious clean bathroom with walk in shower. 18 steps up to the room from the dining area. Free parking.

This is a lovely place. Gorgeous inside and out. And spotless! We waited over an hour for our food, and part of my order was not correct. What we ordered was cooked perfectly. There was live music that evening, which was nice. It feels like a popular place for locals. We were visiting the area and decided to walk a mile uphill to try it. Lovely views, btw! The Eton Mess was so good!

Good food, plenty of choices and some unusual, service not as attentive as you'd expect eating in the private dining area

The service and location to the Christmas markets was AMAZING, the staff were the nicest, the good in the restaurant was INCREDIBLE.....but......we had a beautiful suite and it smelled really musty and damp, the bath didn't work properly which I was very disappointed about as it was the main reason I booked the room was for the big stand alone bath! And also the bed wasn't very comfortable, definitely needs a new mattress. However the food and service absolutely outshined the small issues we had with the room, and management did communicate an apology!

Pub great, food great, maybe clean the tables a bit more often.

The home made pie was very nice, but the side of mash, served in a ramekin (why) was a bit dry. The fish and chips appeared oven cooked, not deep fried. The overall price was reasonable and the surroundings ok.

C
Chris Down

I love this pub but 3 times in the last couple of months have had disappointing lunches e.g. yellow/brown watercress and very soggy, wet Hispanic cabbage! Not good coffee also! Won’t be back for a while. P.s. I did complain at the time.

Writing this review on behalf of my in-laws who recently dined here. One had the crab linguine which was appalling. The crab was clearly out of a tin, was grey and tasteless and resembled a plate of warm sick. The other had the mushroom and hoisin spring roll. The combination of flavours was chunderous. So bad in fact that it brought on an overwhelming nausea. Avoid at all costs.

I never leave reviews unless they are 5 stars... But I have to say, this was an outrageous example of lack of service. If you guys intend for customers to pick up their own menu and order food at the bar, that's fine but at least let it be known! I was sat at a laid table without a menu for ages. Then I finally asked and the staff pointed at the menus. No further instructions. I was not served to. So I just finished my pint and left.... Might as well go to a spoons.

H
Hollie Elvin

Completely lacklustre. Menu way too pretentious to go with the surroundings. Stank of urine by the hotel entrance to the bar (no idea why, as no toilets there). Prices absolutely ridiculous (£20 for one large Pinot Grigio and two Diet Cokes). With so many other places to choose from in Bath, I can't even understand how this place is still in the game. I won't be returning. I didn't stay overnight, so can't comment on the accommodation.
