Amani was a superstar, she is a wealth of good energy, warm hospitality and kindness. She strives to make her customers happy and ensures that she makes their experience complete. What a joy to have gotten to know Amani! I’ll be back for the Baklava latte, the ambiance and Amani’s good energy.
This place is lovely. My food and drinks were amazing. The staff is nice. The location and decor are quaint and inviting. There is a policy where if you eat outside you have to get your items packaged to go (at least on this Tuesday, which is a slow day where a lot of stuff in Beacon is closed. Maybe it is not always the case?). This seems like a bit of extra trouble for guests, but it is what it is. We still enjoyed our time there. The baked good looked delicious, but we just ate from the breakfast/brunch menu.
This place has such a quaint feel and setting. Not common to find a place that isn't a mediocre diner that offers breakfast/brunch items all day long, especially for dinner. Their loaded tots are great, and worth having with every meal. The place is fairly small and when fully booked inside, food may take a little longer to come out- but it's absolutely worth waiting for fresh breakfast for dinner!
Beacon Bread Company is truly a staple in Beacon. Their homemade baked goods and delicious treats never disappoint, and everything always tastes fresh and thoughtfully made. On top of that, the staff is consistently friendly and welcoming, which makes every visit even better. Highly recommend to anyone in the area—whether you’re a local or just visiting.
Quant little bakery and breakfast/lunch spot. Stopped here after I missed the train to GC. Was the best layover ever. Had a delicious bacon, sausage and cheese Sammy on a brioche. The sausage was house made and so was the hot sauce! The wife had avocado toast and poached eggs. The dog had bacon. We got a loaf to go. The coffee was good too! Also the atmosphere and service was top notch. Will be back for sure.
Greattt meal we had good choco chip pancakes. Our waittress Amani was awesome n attentive. My only request is they should warm up the syrup before and have the butter out of the fridge so its already soft to spread
My mother and I enjoyed a lovely breakfast here the other day. She opted for the fluffy pancakes and I had an omelette - the portion sizes were great which is always appreciated and the atmosphere was pretty laid back (Thursday morning). I look forward to coming back and enjoying another meal in the very near future. Highly recommend if you're in/around Beacon.
I hesitate to write this review because then the wait will be even longer but there's a reason there is a wait, it is worth it so make sure if you're visiting Beacon you definitely go here. Each plate that comes out is done with such care and skill and pride. There were 4 adults and a teen in my party and everyone loved their food and that never happens. Everything was delicious. A must try!
I visited Beacon awhile back and came across this lovely cafe. The ceasefire sign brought me right in and Wow! I’m a sucker for scones and the ones here are delicious 🤤 and what…. A baklava latte!! Omg that’s a first! LOVED LOVED the shirts the crew wore. I just felt like I was “home” so Def making this my stop next time I’m back and I’m coming early for a sit down brunch. Everybody was so nice and smiles.
I loved this place so much.. My sis and I would come out to Beacon by bus just to have a good time over good food. You could tell everything was made with heart, and the staff were always so kind. I want to wish Barbara the best, and to thank her for her service and for the memories ❣️
Had the best food at BJ's!!! After a day hike, a group of 10 friends and I showed up starving and already turned away from other Beacon hot spots. BJ's took us in immediately, no wait, and made us feel right at home! Our server told us about how his grandma started the restaurant 45 years ago and still makes the desserts. I got the fried tilapia which was incredible, with AMAZING sides of Mac and cheese and buttery melt in your mouth mashed potatoes. The cornbread is also a must, wayyy better than many places I've been to as a southerner. And the banana cream pie was so good, not too sweet and just filling enough. Can't recommend this restaurant enough, will be back one day!
I went to BJ’s today for the first time after hearing how amazing the food was, and it did not disappoint! Ms Brenda was so kind, and after having a conversation with her, after expressing we were in a bit of a rush she shared that they’ve been dealing with some recent family health issues which has resulted in them being a bit shortstaffed but to rest assured that she would take care of it, and it was just such a kind gesture! I can’t wait to go back. The food was absolutely amazing. I had the fried chicken, mac & cheese, and cornbread, and my friend had the fish, greens and yams. Everything was seasoned to perfection, not too sweet, and you could tell that the staff was doing their very best! 10/10
Our fried chicken and collard greens were hands down the best I've had outside Louisiana. Visiting Brenda's place is like visiting my Gramma's kitchen. Thanks to the whole family for your gracious hospitality. We'll be back for more!
BJ’s Restaurant in Beacon—what a delightful find! The service was warm and attentive, and the food truly hit the mark—from hearty soul food staples like mac & cheese, collard greens, and fried chicken to flavorful specials that seemed cooked with love. The cozy, welcoming atmosphere made our meal feel even more special. If you’re ever in Beacon, do yourself a favor and stop by—this place is a real gem!
The fried chicken was phenomenal. Very clean batter. Just the right amount of crisp. Customer service is top tier. Almost 50 years in business and when you dine there you will quickly begin to understand why. Cheers to 50 more 🥂
Its best to call in and place your order . The orders average about 30 minutes because its made fresh. These lady at the front is very nice and direct lol. She may seem tired but they have just been carrying the flavor of Beacon on their back for the past 50 years baby. The sweet potatoe pie is also very good. Anytime I come up around here .. stopping at BJ's a must . Straight 🔥🔥🔥🔥 I love to support black owned business any chance I get
If you want to feel like you’ve stumbled into grandma’s kitchen and get your comfort food fix, this is the spot. Brenda was so friendly and made sure we were well taken care of. We asked her what was good on the menu, and she said everything. Based on what we ordered, she definitely wasn’t lying.
Every time I visit this soul food gem, there’s one thing you can count on, I’m walking out with two cakes: the Chocolate Marble and the Lemon Cake. They’re my absolute favorites and have become a non-negotiable part of every visit. The Chocolate Marble is rich, moist, and swirled to perfection, with a flavor that feels like a warm hug. The Lemon Cake? Bright, tender, and just the right amount of tangy, it’s pure comfort in every bite. These cakes are the sweet soul of the menu, and I can’t leave without them! Ever since I’ve had their cakes I no longer order from anywhere else…
Such a great local restaurant that's been around for 45+years now! Brenda the owner was so nice; she was very attentive and offered us a free slice of cake while we waited for our food, and didn't charge us for the extra piece of cornbread that came out from the kitchen. We waited almost an hour for the food, but it was very good. My oxtail dish was fall off the bone soft and the sides were very yummy. My partner's chicken and waffles was also pretty good! The service is slow because all the food is made to order. A great place if your looking for homemade style soul food!
Such awesome people! All of the food is made to order, but totally worth the wait. I really enjoyed the fried chicken legs and thighs. Battered and fried to perfection. The batter didn't fall apart and the meat was super tender. Everyone was friendly even though they were packed the entire time (I'm sure it's exhausting to have so many customers). I can't wait to go back soon!
Nice little place with good ambience and great food. The staff is very friendly and attentive, and while we were there they only played 90s hip-hop; classics all over the place! They were out of 2 dishes on their menu, which means 1/4 of the menu was unavailable. The seared scallops were delicious but there were only 4 scallops. For $18 there should at least be a couple more. General Tso's chicken and waffles is the best chicken and waffles I've ever had.
Such a cute little cafe that you are able to eat in or take out. The menu has a great menu for various diets. There seems to be something for everyone. We ordered thereat and butter board that came with different types of breads and butters. Omg?! The brioche bread was so fluffy and dense. The grained bread was also delicious. I didn't taste the sourdough but I am sure it was incredible. The MAPLE BUTTER was perfect. It had the perfect amount of maple that was not overpowering - very well balanced. The everything but the bagel butter was also really good. The salted was a great classic. I also ordered the BLTA which was divine. The bacon had a hot honey coated which was such a nice touch. It came with seasoned fries which I normally don't love but I enjoyed them. We got orange juice that was clearly straight from the orange! Someone at the table to get a side of sausage patties which you can tell were hand made and they were not too salty! The only con was that we had to ask to order because it was taking a long time. Overall, I would go back and recommend to anyone looking for a great place to eat in Beacon!
I was going to give this place a lower rating but after reading the owner's responses to the negative reviews, I increased it because of the entertainment. Strawberry Cannoli Griddles were deceivingly not good. The presentation as it came to our table was flawless and beautiful. Everyone at our table were gasping at how good it looked but when I took a bite, the flavor and texture were off-- I did enjoy that it wasn't overly sweet though. Chicken and waffle: waffle texture and flavor were the same as the pancakes. Chicken seemed to be the same as the one from my Bang Bang Chicken Bang Bang Chicken: the chicken was wayy too over-fried. It was still good once I got to the thicker part and I enjoyed the rest of my burger after that but the initial few bites were disappointing. Fries are good!! I loved the Baklava Iced Latte. It was delicious. We did not notice the flavor of Baklava though, and it tasted like a regular Iced Latte but nonetheless, it was probably my favorite item that we got. Overall, a pretty average restaurant. The food is incredibly mid but I wasn't expecting much in the first place. Staff are friendly and I love the atmosphere. I'll definitely be coming back to support
My husband and I came here for brunch and were told we had to wait about 20 minutes for a table, which was fine. But while waiting, I went to use the bathroom and it was absolutely disgusting. It was filthy so bad it felt like a grimy Bronx club bathroom, not a restaurant that serves food. I was so grossed out that I immediately told my husband we were not eating here and we left. If the bathroom is in that condition, I can’t even imagine what the kitchen looks like. Completely ruined the experience before it even started. Cleanliness is non negotiable.
I really wanted to enjoy this place, especially after seeing all the glowing reviews, but unfortunately, my experience fell short. I ordered the scrambled tofu, which looked great on the plate, but the flavor just wasn’t there. It had an overwhelming amount of powdered turmeric sprinkled on top, not cooked into the dish, so it tasted raw and bitter. I tried adding salt, then hot sauce, but nothing could save it. My guest ordered the French toast with a side of bacon. The French toast looked beautiful but had an odd aftertaste that neither of us could quite place. It wasn’t terrible, just… different. The bacon, though, was a surprise, not in a good way. Instead of a small side, we were served what felt like an entire pack of bacon. No heads up from the waiter, no warning that it was meant for multiple people. My guest was overwhelmed, and I don’t eat bacon, so it ended up mostly untouched. With the prices being what they are, I walked away feeling like I didn’t get my money’s worth. Maybe it was just an off day, or maybe certain dishes shine more than others. Either way, this one was a miss for me. You live and learn!
BJ’s has been our “go to” restaurant since we moved to Dutchess County eight years ago. We love soul food. The food here is very good and usually very consistent. In the past, I have also ordered baked goods to complement my Thanksgiving meal. Unfortunately, due to a recent incident, we will never patronize them again. Due to health issues, my husband does not drink commercially manufactured drinks. Instead, he has a water enhancer that he adds to plain glasses of water. He keeps small packets in his wallet for those occasions when we are eating out. He has been doing this for several years. We enjoy eating out and eat in restaurants often. We have NEVER had an issue with this. Last month, my husband stopped into BJ’s to order lunch. When the server saw him with the water enhancer, she REPRIMANDED him and told him not to let the owner see him with the packet because she is strongly against it since they sell soft drinks. She was adamant. (Others have mentioned complaints about management’s poor attitude but this was the first time we experienced it firsthand). I cannot believe that the management of this restaurant would quibble over something as petty as that when his total bill for that day was over $80! (He not only bought lunch for himself but got takeout for the family.) We have never experienced anything like this. In my opinion, it is unprofessional, rude and unnecessary. It is a shame but they have truly lost loyal customers over a petty and ridiculous issue.
