First time visitors, be sure to read the signs. You claim your table and take note of the table number before walking to the counter to place your order. The wait was not long at all, to order and receive our food. Food was good and fulfilling. Few pointers if you have not been, water and soup is served at the little counter to the left of the ordering counter. They had 2 different soups to pick from. Napkins, silverware, chopsticks, soy sauce all located in the same area. Check the order window for posted signs of any specials. Table sharing is a thing. I would recommend to stop by and check it out.

Iwa Ya on Bellaire Blvd hit the spot for lunch today! The atmosphere was inviting, and the service was quick and friendly. We dove into their delicious spider roll, savoring the fresh ingredients and perfect texture. The katsudon was another winner, with its crispy pork cutlet and flavorful sauce. Even the miso and corn chowder soup impressed, offering a warm and comforting start to the meal. And to top it off, the prices were reasonable! Highly recommend Iwa Ya for a satisfying and enjoyable lunch experience.

Similar to Hokkaido Sushi in Diho Square, but a bit cheaper with better service! They have complementary miso soup, corn soup, and hot tea. I love the salmon nigiri and it’s only 1.85 each piece here! I also love the Crazy Lion roll! The restaurant can get really crowded sometimes—my family had to wait almost half an hour on Saturday night, but it was worth it! The speciality rolls I tried were great.

This place provides variety of Japanese food with a really decent price. They have daily special bento box that cost $10 in case you don't know what to order that's the recommendation. They have unlimited soups and red bean dessert soup. It's usually packed with Asian elders every day. Where you see a lot of Asian elders you know where the good deals are.

Came here for the first time with some friends and was not disappointed. You sit yourself down, order your food and help yourself to water, tea, or free soup to go with your meal. Overall the food was very yummy. If you love sushi this is a great place to stop by!

My wife and I went there for dinner. I'd seen some reviews and videos about the place. It was around 8:30 pm, so we decided to have a late dinner. We ordered some crab stick, scallops, Iwa Ya roll, gyoza, and dragon roll. All for about $30. They have free iced tea, red bean dessert, and free soup. It was perfect for two people. If you haven't visited this place and you're in Chinatown in Houston, try it if you're in the mood for sushi.

We like their Saba Entree ( broiled mackerel ). The fish was perfectly broiled and juicy. Miso soup and corn soup were good as well. This will be our new favorite in Houston !

IWA YA is one of my go-to Japanese spots in Houston’s Chinatown. It’s a popular place, especially on weekends and during lunch, so you’ll usually see a steady crowd and sometimes a line — but it moves quickly. When you order, you simply give them the table or booth number you plan to sit at, and they’ll bring the food to you. We tried a sushi roll and a bento box (around $11), which came with grilled fish, salad, fried tofu, and shrimp tempura — a great value for what you get. One of the best parts of eating here is the self-serve extras: unlimited corn soup, miso soup, hot water, and red bean dessert. You just grab a bowl or cup and help yourself. It’s a small touch that adds a lot to the overall experience. Service is always friendly and fast, and the restaurant has plenty of seating. Parking is easy too, thanks to the large shared lot outside. If you’re in Houston’s Chinatown and want solid Japanese food at a reasonable price, Iwaya is definitely worth a visit.

The food quality here is good. Service is primarily self-serve. You find a table before ordering and paying. They will bring out the food while you grab a bowl of miso or corn soup at the self-service counter. The lunch bento is a great value and their sushi is of decent quality. Lots of patrons, simple decor, and great value. Large menu, so it’s a great place to eat at if I don’t know what I feel like eating that day.

Cute little place with some affordable Japanese food. For dine in customers, you can get access to their miso soup, corn soup, and red bean soup (dessert?), and hot tea. I liked most of the dishes the restaurant gave. 2 things to improve: 1) I did see a baby roach on the wall when I was getting tea, so they may want to investigate that… 2) I wouldn’t personally serve fish right next to or on top of my salad. We ordered the mackerel meal and the salad dressing seeped under the fish, which will change its flavor and experience of eating it. This was our least favorite dish due to this next to the chawanmushi.

Standard sushi with affordable price! • Sushi Combo A $14.95 with 7 pieces: shrimp, squid, tuna, salmon, red snapper, smelt roe, egg, and california roll. Squid and salmon was super fresh. Tuna wasn’t good, not fresh at all. Everything else was okay. • Yellowtail sushi $2.00 • Spicy chopped scallop $1.90 so good Free miso soup - self-serve.

The food was just ok. My elderly parents liked it. The guy at the front seemed a bit stingy about to-go containers when we spent $95 dinning in - still included a tip even though everything was self-serve, pay upfront when you order at the cash register, and you find your own table, silverware, and paper napkins. A lady took away all the menus while my son was still reading one - he was going to order more. Because of that, he ended up not ordering more. Not sure if I will go back again. The free sweet red bean soup was good (very sweet).
