Caffe Chiave

Big open and airy. Caffe Chiave is a great place get some coffee and a morning bite. The owner /operators keep a nice place with a lot of fresh air that I know is appreciated by those who want to bring home what they went out for. Trieste is gone in Berkeley but the place Johnny left still has friendly smiles at the counter.

Great Cafe with wonderful food and amazing staff. Lots of indoor seating but few outlets. They have musical events and it attracts an older college crowd. Great spot for a long stay working or studying. My favorite Cafe around these parts.

Although my California bagel took a few minutes longer than expected, it was worth the wait! Caffe Mocha was exceptionally delicious, not sure what chocolate they use but it was very different in a good way! Nice someone was open New Years Eve day!

Strong dark coffee in a real cup, tasty self serve pastries or hot specials. This cafe is my go to to read a book while my car is being worked on a couple blocks down. Always pleasant, always good.

A great local place. Comfortable. No wifi is a plus. Best coffee in town. The original Trieste in North Beach goes back to the beatnik days of Jack Kerouac and Allan Ginsberg. It's still run by the same family. A good place for a cup to go, or to sit down for a while by yourself or with friends. There's often live jazz or Italian opera singing in the evenings and at weekends.

Great place to get a coffee. Pastries could be better but the gentle crew and nice customers make it up! There is live music too! You just have to check out their calendar.

Yes sure, the real action is in North Beach. Lucky to have this spot in the neighborhood though. Not just saying that because of the Diana's pastry or the good folks on both sides of the counter. This is the best 'first-wave' cafe. Period.

We happened upon this cafe after dinner in Berkeley. It is a really cool spot. There was live music that night which was neat to hear. The coffee was good and the cheesecake was incredible.

Today I am enjoying the breakfast burrito and an oat mocha - they use glass vessels (!) 😍 ... absolutely obsessed with the caramel cheesecake and eclairs 🤍🦾

Fantastic cafe and restaurant. Stopped in while I was waiting for my car to get fixed and I'm so glad I did. I got the breakfast sandwich on a bagel with egg, cheese, and bacon. It was delicious. The service was super fast and super friendly. It felt like a great family-owned place where people actually care. I'll be back!

Best Mochas made West of of New York City, made by Luis. Hassle free and faster service than Starbucks or Petes. Cafe Trieste is a bit of the old spirit of Berkeley preserved despite the excessive gentrification in the area.

Have them make you a breakfast sandwich on an English muffin with egg, ham, mozzarella and pesto. It is the bee's knees. I had mine with a beer which is one of the reasons why I love this place so much.

Here is the best place I have found for a take out breakfast, specifically their breakfast burritos. I have them to add ham , as I was tired of all the breakfast sandwiches with sausage giving me a tummy ache. Their burritos are cooked in a coordinated fashion in different pans assembly is completed right after they add the tater tots. It's perfection in a tortilla roll. Well worth the extra money, you won't be disappointed.

After trying espresso beverages at several cafe's in Berkeley, this one is my absolute favorite. They make an out of the park espresso every time. It's never burnt or sour like most places I've tried and consistently worth the money. They also have excellent biscotti!

Absolutely enjoyed the Cheesecakes (Carmel Fudge/New York Style), Boston Cream Pie and last but not least .. Tarimasu, to die for. My Chicken Avocado was very nice as well.

Best coffee ever. Friendly guys behind the counter. Sidewalk tables in the shade. What more could one ask for? Well one order for tea mistakenly was coffee. But my friend drank it anyway!

This was our first time there. We enjoyed our breakfast. The food was good, hot, and the portions were generous as well as reasonably priced.

I had the latte, my daughter had a steamed milk with light flavor. The seats outside were nice because we could watch our bikes while enjoying our morning drinks. The prices are decent and the drink sizes are ideal.

Food: The meat lasagna is pretty hearty here and great with salad and bread. The yogurt parfaits are one of my favorite breakfasts for the choices I've got in the area, but you'll need to get there early because they run out fast. They make the best iced mocha around here, other than Philz Coffee, because they use a dark chocolate powder rather than syrup. Decor: Typical cafe, lots of people meeting up, watching soccer or working from home. Service: Great baristas who are efficient and personable. I like that they accept transactions under $5 on a debit card.

Haven't been here for dinner, but the breakfast was bad. Latte was burned badly. The bagel was so hard and tough it hurt my jaw to chew. Biscuit and Egg sandwich was great though. No complaints there. Was quite expensive for what it was.

Iced latte was alright but warm. gave me wrong receipt and the right receipt has added tip amount...

Coffee is aggressively mediocre: poorly sourced and poorly made. Food is forgettable. It’s right by my house but I walk a mile every morning for something average over this. Space is neat, just wish it was occupied by something better.

This used to be Caffe Trieste. My experience today was very bad. I noticed the espresso was running about four times faster than it should. I pointed this out to the barista. Who replied, well it's coffee and shrugged his shoulders. If you want good coffee stay away.

Nice selection of salads, but all the food is a bit on the pricey side for a cafe. The service is spotty, some of the staff are clearly not happy in thier work. There is often live music and invariably the music is quite good. Had lunch here today, 4/22/17, the place is filthy.

Ordered on Grubhub and they messed up the order completely. I called to inform them that they messed up (I already handled the refund on GH) and the man on the phone said “well there’s nothing we can do about it. It’s already done.” and hung up LOL. Whoever is working there today is so rude.
